Good Morning again. Thanks for the new thread Steve and I hope you are feeling a bit better.
Hi Mits..thanks for the heads up.This is the 2nd time in the history of this blog that I've gotten on before you - Too much late TV, gal.

Saw the ME eagle earlier - was lying down in the nest when first came on & I thought maybe 'nesting' but then he/she was up & about.

MITS said...

Turned it off at 12:30 a.m., need to stop puter and TV earlier, must rev up my 2 brain cells too much:)

Mema Jo said...

Liberty (?) has changed position. I guess I missed the turning of the eggs.

paula eagleholic said...

Too bad video isn't running today. Would have made a good video. I tried to do one from the egg turning yesterday afternoon....but the quality was too poor. Hopefully we will get an opportunity to see a switch and egg turning on the live feed when it is not so windy or dark out!

MITS said...

On your video from last night , it looks like Belle was gently tapping Lib to get up.

wvgal_dana said...

Thank you Steven for the new thread sure hope you are on the way to getting better.

Hi Mits, Jo, Paula, and Norma morning to you all and lurkers.

Neat cams today.

Bad weather heading our way sleet and freezing rain.

Anyone have a canopy we can put over Belle and Liberty. Maybe also the BW nest.?????

MITS said...

Paula, did Dianna, lay it in the same nest bowl? Is the Tiger on your forum, the same one from the Seattle osprey cam?

glo said...

Good morning..Hope your day goes well. Under serious weather warnings here so not sure what the weekend holds for me. Maybe they will be wrong. ANyway enjoying the cams while I can. Those on FeedBlitz know there are great videos from yesterday available at the NCTC Eagles Of Shepherdstown Blogsite, and the For the Love Of Eagles Blog as well. It was a wonderful day for live nest viewing yesterday. Click on my name and have a look see.

wvgal_dana said...

Paula what place are you talking about "eggs laying side by side"??

paula eagleholic said...

The west end nest in California, Dana. Dianna laid her egg right nest to Wrays, in the same nest bowl.

wvgal_dana said...

MITS said...

Paula....that is one cool nest, that whole story is amazing...you have some excellent photos on that forum.:):):).

Mema Jo said...

Paula - what is FLUFF?

Mema Jo said...

I think on the CO cam that the eagle is on the right side of the nest.
I do wish that cam would back up a little!

Genie said...

Hi, this is my first time to read the blog. I am a real eagle fanatic and have the sites for eagles nest at Blackwater from Africam and the ones at Kent. But I saw several others mentioned...Maine, California, NE. Would it be possible to post a complee list of the sites...or email it to me..genie616@aol.com.

I am excited to find this blog, and enjoy meeting all of you.

paula eagleholic said...

Fluff is grass!

Mema Jo said...

Looks as though Tai is napping out in the yard on the snow covered ground.

wvgal_dana said...

ty Paula I took a guess and went to that site and even into the forum to read some. I was really surprised by all the great pictures. That is a neat site.
Didn't read all of the forum.

Have you been watching that site since back in 06?

paula eagleholic said...

Links off of eagletmomsters.com

http://www.eagletmomsters.com/links.html

or go to

beakspeak.com

wvgal_dana said...

Hi genie616 nice to see you in here. Paula's answer there at that link has alot if not all the links. Enjoy and come in again.

paula eagleholic said...

Dana,
I knew of those nests last year - they have been on the momsters links for ages. But I couldn't ever get on to see them last year, and when I did, it seemed like the quality was terrible.

I never knew they had a forum until last October. I only found it through a link to my website. They didn't have the link on the page they do now. They started their forum in June, right before they tagged the eaglet (A-49) in the Santa Cruz nest. I have been watching those nests since back in October, tho.

MITS said...

HELLO, GENIE, AND WELCOME:):):)

paula eagleholic said...

BTW, they do have a forum for the Maine cam, too. If you want the link I can post it here.

MITS said...

PAULA the channel island forum is very similar to the forum of the Harrisburg falcon forum, I like that your can read the remarks and not have to join in, and everyone does a great job of the picture taking, very informative too.:).

normabyrd said...

WELCOME GENIE----TO THE EAGLE BUDDIES---

Mema Jo said...

Thanks for the important info about the fluff, Paula. I thought it meant grass but for some reason I also thought it may have meant the breast feathers they pluck! DUH!
Hi Genie Just sent you an email.
Hopefully you will join our Momsters group

There you are Norma - didn't know if you got kicked out or not!

Mema Jo said...

I am leaving you all & heading to the showers! BBL

wvgal_dana said...

Well for some reason I got it to finally work. I tried before with no avail. I got SC into windows media player so I can have Maine in winamp. Happy now. ( :

I did put out a banana peel. I do have a Mockingbird. During last summer he try to make his nest under my small grill on our deck. It was so funny went out and all these sticks all over the porch.
Ed asking me and I'm asking Ed and the Mockingbird is laughing at us.

So I know he is around (with a mate) somewhere maybe he will spot the banana peel.

wvgal_dana said...

Both eagles in CO

paula eagleholic said...

Good for you Dana. About the media player and the mockingbird :)

paula eagleholic said...

I like that forum, Mits, because the biologist answers questions. Have you checked out that section yet? "What are your questions?"

wvgal_dana said...

I think it was Belle turning eggs at our nest.

SC eagles beautiful sound and wings flew out of nest.

wvgal_dana said...

We have so may cats in the area. hee hee I put a thumb tact through it with the inside of peel up and put it on railing. Hoping to see birdie or Mockingbird eating it.
Please Please (that's a prayer). ( :

MITS said...

Not yet, but Dr. Peter Sharpe did, answer me when I saw the replay of him several years ago, taking the eggs out of the nest. He was nearby checking the cam and just like you said that day was doing a replay.

wvgal_dana said...

I want to get this spring a feeder that hangs off the railing. That way the feeder isn't into the yards where the dogs are. It has to be up so I can just walk on ramp to put seed in it. So we can sit in our kitchen. It has 3 great windows at sitting level to see from. I miss my hummingbirds too. I'll be thinking on that one. I want to put JO's plant on table on my porch.

wvgal_dana said...

Where's Belle eggs??????

wvgal_dana said...

Is she rolling them out of the deepnest of the nest????

wvgal_dana said...

It looked like she was rolling them up the side of the nest. Then she laid down on them.

Mema Jo said...

movin said...

Good Saturday watching to you all....

Did I deduce rightly from your comments that there is a second egg at the West End Nest (no video so far today) now, which was laid by the second female??

I've been wondering forever how that affair works...even e-mailed once, but didn't get a reply to that question.

I think they only had one egg in previous years, which was more confusing.

Anybody understand it better than I??

Jim

paula eagleholic said...

We nest back up, but not any better. Not sure if the good Dr. has been there yet or not.

paula eagleholic said...

Jim,
Last year at the WE nest, each female laid 2 eggs. The male that is there mates w/ both the females.

So far, we believe each female has laid one egg each, for a total of two eggs.

movin said...

Missed Paula's initial comment, or I wouldn't have had to deduce so much.

Like to know what you know about the arrangement anyway.

Jim

movin said...

Thanks, Paula...didn't know they had 4 eggs last year, since only 1 chick was fostered to them.

That chick had a broken leg at banding time and was removed to rehab. So I assumed, incorrectly, that they had only laid a single egg.

Happy Saturday,
Jim

paula eagleholic said...

The WE nest, for some time, has had 2 females and 1 male. There is only one other on the internet w/ such an arrangement. It is not unknown, however, in the eagle world. They all share the nesting duties and such. Last year the original male disappeared, and the new male, 01, appeared. He is now part of the WE trio.

Mema Jo said...

Paula, I didn't know about the male being new to WE. You think the original male had more then he cared to handle.

paula eagleholic said...

They don't know what happened to him. Never found his body or anything. I think he was 25, so he probably just died of old age. The females are 20. 01 is only 7 years old. (you go, guy!) Truly Superman!

Not too bad a day, but that West End cam is going to drive me crazy!

This cam seems to be working pretty well now, but has anyone seen or heard anything about the video cam?? I have not been able to get it to open this season yet.

I saw the male (big bird, thought it was the female until I saw the number) at the Two Harbors nest bring in a large branch and try to position it on the left side of the picture not long ago. Their nest is getting much more "built" this year, instead of relying on the stone construction of the site.

Better do some chore stuff for now...take it easy.

Well, as you can see from the cam pic, it's snowing here now. Poor eagle is covered. But at least right now it's snow not ice. Looks like it's going to be a little of everything here today, snow, ice, sleet.

wvgal_dana said...

Good Morning eagle watcher friends.

Our Belle is in the nest she was covered with snow. She had once already shook snow off. Within a short while; cause we're expecting 2-4 inches then more sleet. Belle must have the instincts that it is going to be a "bad storm".
Our Belle protecting her eggs.

I started a new album to add pics to for Feb 25 - March 3. Paula will have to more it please cause right now it is at the end of albums. Add your snap shots of this marvelous eagle careing for her eggs in a show storm.

wvgal_dana said...

It was sleet here first then it turned to snow later it is suppose to turn back to sleet.
