Palmer couldn't wait for parent to finish cutting a chunk apart, and went after it while it was still a pretty good size - gulp! - then stepped back for a poop shoot - little Palmer is getting quite adept at asserting own needs/wants!
LOL Hedgie I have lots of photos on disks. But my software for my camera is also on laptop so that is where I initially download all the photos off the camera. Seems to be taking longer and longer as well I have my favorites from 2009, 2010 NCTC photos, cicca entries and all the ones I email to the club etc I leave there til the season is over. And well in reality I am more likely to look at and share what is on my computer instead of on a disk in a drawer. Anyway I play and download photos on laptop. Laptop is like 6 or 7 years old.I do email and blogging and watch what nests I can on desktop. Live will load for me in here but it always freezes the computer. At times it takes more than one restart and sounds like it is lumbering away. Desktop is over 10. So I for the most part am making do with the still. Saving my money fro a new lens so not wanting to spend it on a computer this year anyway.
Gotcha', Glo!!! So next year...plan on a new puter!! If I hot the lottery, I'll save some for you, as well as any others who need a new one! Still plaaying, hoping I'll win in order to help Chrissy.
Paula, you better let us know when baby action starts!!!
kickngbird hope you feel better you too Glo anyone else? Well, same wishes to you as well
back to bed for me I put lots of wildflower pictures up on Wildflowers link and a couple of old building pics on Fun and Dandy xo Good Afternoon everyone ttfn
Thanks, Steve, for the new thread and the great picture!
Have been doing housework and studying for the exam tonight. Had to see how Palmer is doing. That rascal looks even bigger to me today! Growing like a weed! Live cam is kinda iffy on my 'puter, but at least I can get there today.
Kickngbird, good to have you here today, but hope (and of course, pray) that you feel better SOON! Same for Glo (and Megan and Margy with owie fingers!).
Well, better go study some more. Will be back to check on things later. Have a great afternoon! :o]
Just learned that we have an Osprey Lane/Rd. here in our county. Cool!! But seriously doubt it is where the osprey nest is! It's in a relatively newly developed area, and looks pretty dense. Margy might know more. (Margy, Spring Mills, between St. Andrews and T.J. Jackson)
Hmmm -- just wondering as I don't think I've seen this mentioned anywhere -- Palmer appears to prefer being very close to the nest edge so if he/she were to get dangerously close, would the parent try to intervene? If I should know this, I apologize for showing my stuuuuupid.
Judie - we always think they are too close to the edge, but he will be fine. I know we worry about them, but I think Lib and Belle have sufficient crib rails in place. The adults don't interfere generally in there movements about the nest.
Great photo for a new fresh thread - Thanks Steve.
Just back from Eye Dr - it was just to check out my cataract - No change in sight - meaning it is still very very small - 1st detected in 2002. So I'm thinking I will avoid Lazar surgery during my lifetime.
Watching the RTH in Portland She just jumped up and backed off the 3 eggs... I thought maybe something was happening. However; she got back on and wiggled down to be comfy. The one egg in the foreground may have a small hole but can't be sure - could be nesting material
Thank you, Paula. I suppose Palmer looks closer to the edge than in reality -- just wondered if a parent would step between Palmer and nest edge.
Lynn, have almost completely decided to finish out 2010 as I gave a written, although non-binding, agreement for Fall 2010 semester. Just feel keeping my word is the professional thing to do. Beyond that, I have made no commitment.
I think the west coast birds are always later than the east coast birds...more temperate winters...don't have to lay as early to get chicks prepared for winter.
Possible hatch at WE reported on CHIL forum, signs of egg movement, or chick moving with shell still stuck to it...Wray sure is antsy and is in more of a brooding position..of course, not giving anyone any looks into the bowl :)
"Preening" isn't probably the right word for what Palmer's doing to fuzz, but it's looking like a preening kind of motion - that's when it looks like a sort of grown-up kind of move! But maybe itching does mean feathers starting?
Minnesota Bound Live Owl Cam is down. We are aware of the issue and are working on it again. ugh...we will alert you as soon as it is live again. We are sorry, and thank you for your patience. 5 hours ago
China earthquake was in the Qinghai province, which is next to the Sichaun province where Wolong is...it is also a mountainous region. Sure hope that it didn't cause any damage to the preserve.
Thanks Paula for putting up "The link for updates on Buddy". I did go there and checked it out. Wow they are really working with him. I did become sad and teary when I clicked on "Others that have been brought into the Rescue". Bald eagles are getting a lot of pellets in their stomach it seems. I'm sure from eating deer or other animals that have been shot and killed.
Good evening all my eagle peeps. I have been to Bluefield, Institute, back to Bluefield and now back to Bedford since yesterday. Saw an awesome concert with my baby boy in it! :)
Jo, I've been meaning to ask you about the Ms. Susan the clown... would she also be known as Susie the Clown? She used to buy her clown suits from me...haven't seen her in a number of years. She also did face painting:) Sweet girl!
Update from NBG...you can go to their website to sign up for eaglecam email updates...if you want me to forward this email to you, let me know...has several links...
The Center for Conservation Biology at the College of William & Mary will fit a satellite transmitter for a tracking study on one of the Norfolk Botanical Garden bald eaglets on Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at 10 a.m. Nuckols Tree Care will assist, as well as staff from the Garden.
This date and time are tentative depending on weather and other variables. Any changes will be posted.
The transmitter is equipped with a solar powered battery that will collect data for the 3-year tracking project that answers the age old question, "Where do these eagles go after they leave their nest?" I just addressed a card to the 7 yr. old whos father died in the mine accident. Was going to put some cash in it and decided that may not be a good idea. It could very well be a SCAM, thinking we would send CASH!
Good Evening all our eagle fans. Worked late, had to find something to wear for retirement luncheon on TH. Our wonderful artist,Jan, leader of exhibit shop left a month ago, but there was another lunch then for a great guy who started as a naturalist & ended up as one of top admin Park people. He immediately left to build homes in Haiti w/wife & church group. I think the birthday card thing is legitimate... child's grandfather is the 911 director at Raleigh County....my boss - the 911 director here for Berkeley County - also had a posting on her facebook and was asked to pass it along....
Hedgie In answer to your question about the Tiger Swallowtails, on the photo link... they were on some creek debris...along the water's edge, at Swinging Bridge of course ! Sunday there were a few swimmers there young and old, I showed the youngsters pictures of the flooding there from several weeks ago they were fascinated
Paula the BIG day is drawing close am very excited for you and all the family I have a nephew due Apr 21 - will be taken by C-section if no natural delivery
Good Night Everyone Prayers for wellness and comfort where it is needed, and grateful prayers for many gifts given
Hi all! Getting on to say Good Night! Went shopping today and when I cam home I went straight into the yard. Cooked a delicious dinner and we ate on the patio. Watched a recorded AI and now I am falling asleep.
Well, today we finally got a new pump in our well. We've put it off for almost 2 years now because other things needed replacing worse! Started with my car then the furnace died, then our freezer, then the hot water heater...still need a new fridge and stove, plus a kitchen floor...OH, I almost forgot, we had 3 patio windows installed and wiped out a nest of TERMITES. Holy Cow...not sure if we have grocery money or not. We can always eat at the Soup Kitchen;)
Yes, I guess it is Wanda.. sorry about all those household maladies! But that little White Escape was a nice replacement for the other buggy, eh? My sister, in Massachusetts, has more white trillium than purple...want to make a road trip ?
okay, I guess it is time... xox Good Night again, for real now
Just got home from school about 15 minutes ago, and have been reading a little of the blog entries.
Thanks for the prayers--I got an A on the test tonight! Thank God!
Very glad that our favorite pandas were apparently not affected by the China quake. Sorry to hear of the loss of lives and the damage, though. Prayers for that situation, for sure!
Guess congrats are in order, and am glad to hear of more chicks to see.
Hope everyone who was feeling poorly now feels improved, and hope the owies are healing quickly!
Mauley, how is Miss Kitty? Prayers for her, too!
Glad to hear the good news, Jo, about your eye doctor visit! Thank the Lord! Way to go!
Well, feeling kinda tired, so think I'll go veg in TV land for a while. Prayers have been said for everyone, especially Chrissy and family.
The night light's on, the porch light will come on automatically, and the eye scanner security is enabled. Sleep well, everyone, and have sweet eagle dreams. Good night, and God bless! I'll talk to you tomorrow. Love you guys! :o]
at the eagle nest Margy....the prairie warblers have that ascending song which is what I was hearing. I checked to make sure at Prairie warbler My goodness it sure is a beautiful morning here!!!
major big time meteor in Iowa last night...caught on police dashboard cam....Hey Glo, did you see this?? Meteor I think I would have peed myself. Steve saw something like this fishing once up at the reservoir years ago.

Thanks, Steve for the New Thread.
Beautiful day here:)
What a SPECIAL photo that is of our Royal Family!
I'm thinking that everyone is either having lunch or watching THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS, of which I am going to both of the above!
I had comments on the last thread about our Soup Kitchen...I forgot to mention that I posted some photos from last night on my Just For Fun.
Awesome pic. I certainly missed that. Thanks for the new thread, Steve and the call over, Wanda.
A hatch on Santa Rosa, first ever on that Island in a long long time. How awesome.
Wonder when Oregon is due to hatch. Thanks for the updates on everything, I haven't been able to check on much.
No baby news yet...I will post when something starts to happen in that area.
Wanda - glad you had partakers of the food!
OH, and Palmer is peering off the far end of the nest :)
Thank you for the new thread picture Steve.
Now for the big question, which one is which?
Is that Lib to the right? The feathers appear lighter.
The OR nest laid it's first one on the 24th if I remember correctly.
No snow accumulation.
Home sick today - but I get to be home & watch Palmer chowing down
Oh, and Palmer seems partial to that edge of the nest.
Palmer couldn't wait for parent to finish cutting a chunk apart, and went after it while it was still a pretty good size - gulp! - then stepped back for a poop shoot - little Palmer is getting quite adept at asserting own needs/wants!
copied over from old thread

Nice pics, Wanda.....little Nevaeh is a doll. Bet she was a good helper! Table setting looked lovely!
kickngbird, hope you feel better!!!
Palmer and Belle sitting pretty....maybe waiting for Lib to bring late lunch!
Could actually see a fly on Belle's tailfeathers!
Baby's poop shoot just missed mom's shoulder!
Absolutely wonderful pictures Wanda and Gene....
a must see, on Just For Fun,
Just for Love and Giving too I'd say !
kickngbird
hope you feel better
you too Glo
anyone else? Well, same wishes to you as well
back to bed for me

Oh Steve, thanks for the new thread and the great picture!

Here's the link for Buddy
Buddy Updates Page
Hi, Everyone!

Kickngbird and Glo, hope you both feel better soon.
Andy, here's to another A+ test!
BBL
Margy and Megan.....how are the poor fingers???
Good luck on exam tonight, Andy! Know you will ace it!
Judie, I know you are counting down the days until the end of the semester....have you made the final decision yet?
Lovely picture, Steve. Many thanks.
Hmmm -- just wondering as I don't think I've seen this mentioned anywhere -- Palmer appears to prefer being very close to the nest edge so if he/she were to get dangerously close, would the parent try to intervene? If I should know this, I apologize for showing my stuuuuupid.
Wushi in the nest....looks undisturbed, and Palmer looks very fat!
Can see the down blowing on that baby!
Think that's Lib sitting there.....acts like he doesn't know what to do!
Wow, check out that wushi.
Judie - we always think they are too close to the edge, but he will be fine. I know we worry about them, but I think Lib and Belle have sufficient crib rails in place. The adults don't interfere generally in there movements about the nest.
Thanks for well wishes -
I wish same for Glo and anyone else who's not feeling well.
Had to laugh at "crib rails" -
Wu-Wu Wushi!
OR nest laid 1st on the 24th and 2nd on 27th.
Both laid in the evening, about 10:30 and 9:30. Don't know that it's significant....could be nature wise (shrug).
It's hard to relax since the news about OK nest chick.
I believe that Palmer instinctively knows limits in addition to the baby rails.
The wind sure won't be able to blow that fuzzy basketball off the nest.
Great photo for a new fresh thread - Thanks Steve.
Just back from Eye Dr - it was just to check out my cataract - No change in sight - meaning it is still very very small - 1st detected in 2002. So I'm thinking I will avoid Lazar surgery during my lifetime.
Watching the RTH in Portland

OH, and might be some hatching action at WE, nervous parents, fish in nest...
OH. Haven't check on WE lately. Oooh.Oooh.
Is it geographical? I thought all BE's would lay closer to the same times.
I need a good book on Bald Eagles!
Palmer vies for Belle's shade.
The zoom has changed on the WE nest.
Waiting for Palmer's talons to twiggle.
Poop shoot.
I think the west coast birds are always later than the east coast birds...more temperate winters...don't have to lay as early to get chicks prepared for winter.
Palmer preening
Or scratching an itchy place
Possible hatch at WE reported on CHIL forum, signs of egg movement, or chick moving with shell still stuck to it...Wray sure is antsy and is in more of a brooding position..of course, not giving anyone any looks into the bowl :)
Early winters here would be good cause for early hatching.
When do eaglets form feathers? Is Palmer so itchy because feathers are on the way?
Sometimes acting like a grown up eagle, but not quite sure what to do with all that wing yet...
That's just it. Adult at WE just won't move enough for a good "see-in"
"Preening" isn't probably the right word for what Palmer's doing to fuzz, but it's looking like a preening kind of motion - that's when it looks like a sort of grown-up kind of move! But maybe itching does mean feathers starting?
WE cam seems to have freeze problems.
Noah was running around his quarters today. Flew a little tad over a corner of water box. Cute.
Don't know much about the geographical cycles for egg laying, but know that FL is always ahead of us, and Maine lags behind....
Jo and Megan: Thompson Gas on Rt. 40 is on fire!
WE nest is reporting a chick!
Way to go, WE!!!
OH no, Lynn.
I do think they get itchy when the feathers start coming in...should be starting now.
Well, it was chick, then it was egg with a crack!
How many eggs at WE nest?
Thanks Lynn for the info
Lynn do you mean RT 40 or RT 40A out side of Boonsboro.
Re WE:
I haven't been able to see anything either, BUT
look how high she is sitting on the nest ... tenting too; and she is definitely "DUE".

Palmer eating AGAIN
Still trying to keep an eye on the Portland RTH for any hatchlings.
Going to leave from 5:30 to 7:00.
Keep an eye on her please.
Blogger cop apparently ate my last post.......hurray for WE!!
Probably 40A, Jo.....Old National Pike.
Now I see my first post about WE did show up....wonder why I couldn't see it before? Dumb cop!
Bet you are taking Meatball girl for more face-painting, huh, Jo??!! Enjoy.
Switch should be happening in a few
RTH just flew in and is on the railing
Lots like a sprig of pine was brought in - Few out and NO switch made
China earthquake was in the Qinghai province, which is next to the Sichaun province where Wolong is...it is also a mountainous region. Sure hope that it didn't cause any damage to the preserve.
Nesting hawk is just pulling the pine sprig up towards her/his side/breast.
Yes, Lynn! It's Play Date Wednesday and Ms Susan is at Bob's this evening for the face painting. Alexis and Ms Susan have become real buddies!
Egg roll, at least of one....no switch at RTH.
She sure can't seem to get comfortable on those eggs.......
Just got a good view of the 3 eggs.
I can't see any chicks yet...
Headed out - BBL........
WE has 2 eggs.
Just got back to computer. Laid down on couch with Little Man and feel asleep. Guess I needed it too.
Now I check out comments on this thread.
Mauley, how's Miss Kitty? Better, I hope.
Jo, have a great time with Alexis.
Is the gas station fire near any of you in wild and wonderful WV?
Congratulations to WE eagle. Can't see any eggs cause she's not sharing.
Judie, fire is closest to Megan...it's in MD, outside Hagerstown. It's where I got my gas stove from.
Sounds like the fire was in the roof of the store which is basically their showroom and offices.
Okay. What I personally saw earlier at the WE nest, the adult was off the nest and getting ready to sit back down.
There was one white egg only. If there was a chick hatched it was hidden unless the little gray spot further to the right of the egg was IT.
Their cam is a little off today, and MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE to see.
Hi all! I see Palmer is sleeping off another meal! klj;;agllk; (that's from Daisy, she likes to blog! she says "tell George hello for me"!)
Thanks, Lynn. Hope Megan and family are well out of the way.
This is for Daisy (although my name isn't George): woof woof arf arf and woof!
Looks like there might be a pip hole in one of the RTH eggs.
Oh, yes, Judie, no danger for her!
I guess the wushi in our nest didn't suit anyone.....been there a long time!
Humm West End cam not working so well.
I don't know what Lib brought to the nest but it weren't a fish.
Belle has arrived also. Lib just left and Belle picked up the whatever to go feed Palmer.
Maybe the wushi has to sit awhile till it smells right.
I think that's a squirrel.
Palmer can't get fed fast enough! See the grabbing? "I'M GROWING AND HUNGRY AND REALLY WANT MORE NOW!!"
For a second there I thought maybe it smelled right...
Oh, I guess it did: it was brought over to the "dining area"
OH NO!
Belle went over and picked up the wushi and back over to pALMER!!
hA HA HA
Dessert!
Adult is up at WE. Eating.
Can't see anything yet, can you?
There it is! Just saw the little chick.
Palmer alone....perfect poop shoot.
I have returned with a beautiful butterfly (facial)
Now we are home & TV has NICk on.
Soon she will read books.......
Great to hear you think you saw a pip in the RTH egg. I hope we see a little white fluffy chick soon......
Good evening all my eagle peeps. I have been to Bluefield, Institute, back to Bluefield and now back to Bedford since yesterday. Saw an awesome concert with my baby boy in it! :)
Evening, all.
Looks like the wushi is gone...
Whoo hoo, another eaglet to watch :)
Looks like Lib in with fresh wooshi
Palmer peeping away!
And there's Belle to claim it!
Lib is eating the old stuff, Belle walked the new stuff back
Palmer was whining very loudly for dinner...now chirping away as he eats.
WOW Sharon you've been on the go.
Parent back with fluff for beddy bye time
Was watching WE, got a good look at newest chicklet...adorable, of course!
Jo, I've been meaning to ask you about the Ms. Susan the clown...
would she also be known as Susie the Clown? She used to buy her clown suits from me...haven't seen her in a number of years. She also did face painting:) Sweet girl!
I looked at an eagle nest informative website that gave way to the idea that the eagles add greenery to their nest for these possible reasons.
It could be an insect repellent,
A sign to other eagles to stay away,
Camouflage,
May help keep the nest clean.
Here's the web address if you want to check it out.

Hedgie, what is IWF?
Very informative article, BEagle. Thanks!!
Glad the wushi ripened enough to be eaten!! Missed the squirrel.

I am headed in for a NEW 9:00 TV show of Criminal Minds!
Hello friends. Stopping by to see how everyone is.
I just addressed a card to the 7 yr. old whos father died in the mine accident. Was going to put some cash in it and decided that may not be a good idea. It could very well be a SCAM, thinking we would send CASH!
Jo, many thanks for the hawk link. Beautiful picture but sure wish that plastic bag would disappear.
Hi Shirley.
Early morning so turning my light out. Will leave the night light on for others.
Andy, hope all went well with the test. If you're not too tired, please set our alarm for us.
Goodnight everyone. BB tomorrow sometime.
Good night, Judie.
I have to review my tax forms and send them in. I want to finish that off tonight, but I am really tired.
Hi and goodnight, Judie and Shirley! You hard-working teach's get a good rest!
Just got home from a meeting. I have not read anything from today or yesterday so if I have missed anything big, please let me know.
Good Evening all our eagle fans.

Surprise - guess who gets to go to the dentist tomorrow and it isn't even her day off ---- Me. Just a cleaning.
Good Night All and please know that all of you and your family/friends are in my prayers.

Hey Deb - Your RTH has a chick.
Here's looking at ya
That's comforting news that the Pandas seem to be okay, Helen, and of course, not so comforting that there is loss of life and damage
thank you

Well, today we finally got a new pump in our well. We've put it off for almost 2 years now because other things needed replacing worse! Started with my car then the furnace died, then our freezer, then the hot water heater...still need a new fridge and stove, plus a kitchen floor...OH, I almost forgot, we had 3 patio windows installed and wiped out a nest of TERMITES. Holy Cow...not sure if we have grocery money or not. We can always eat at the Soup Kitchen;)
GOOD NIGHT MY FRIENDS

Very glad that our favorite pandas were apparently not affected by the China quake. Sorry to hear of the loss of lives and the damage, though. Prayers for that situation, for sure!
Guess congrats are in order, and am glad to hear of more chicks to see.
Hope everyone who was feeling poorly now feels improved, and hope the owies are healing quickly!
