Hi Mits! When are you heading to the beach?

Mits said...

hi Lolly, have been here since the 23rd of May:)

Mema Jo said...

Are you getting rain, Mits.
Shame that we are on the 'Beautiful Day' thread.

hedgie said...

No wind here......srtange, isn't it? But the rain is just as heavy here as there. Hope Palmer knows that her wings are too heavy with rain on them! Maybe she's just shaking it off! Don't go yet, baby girl!

Mits said...

no rain yet, just cloudy and cool, yesterday was magnificent:)

Mema Jo said...

Dana - I know you may be napping but want to Thank You for your morning commentary!

Lolly said...

LOL Some how I missed that you were at the beach. Oh, well...the story of my life. ☺ Sure hope the oil does not make it up the east coast like they have predicted. We are going to Port Aransas the last week in July. We have to wait until the boys finish basketball camps, church music camp, swim lessons and bible school. Going to be a busy summer for them, but that is good!

Hello my eaglet friends! I can't believe how big Palmer is -- pretty close to fledging, I would guess?

Just to let you all know, I've registered with the National Audubon Society to volunteer in the oil spill cleanup. They might call me up, they might not; it might be very soon, it might be never. My guess is that they will exhaust all their local resources first, then all those with veterinary/animal degrees, etc. I know I'm not at the bottom of the list, having 10 years' wild bird rehabilitation experience, but I'm certainly not top choice.

I have travel vouchers from Delta to assist in flying out there (wherever "there" ends up being), so at least that part can be taken care of; room/board/transportation will be the next part.

I know all of you are as sickened by the whole thing as I am. I'm sure we all feel helpless -- and maybe a little hopeless, too -- but if we all try to find some way to help out, whether it's fundraising or volunteering or who knows what else, it will help assuage our feelings.

Steve, congratulations on your daughter's graduation :)

Hope you all are well,

As always, I remain,

Your very own Bird Girl

Finney is up and down, up and down. I think her first egg is hatching.

Maybe some seaweed and a small bird in the Fin-Ferry nest.

Palmer is looking cooler and cleaner....

Darn, someone said beach, I know it...
Beautiful rainy day here, been watching Palmer all morning, she's definitely figured out how to flap those big wings!

Lolly said...

Megan, so sorry I said the b word. Did it without thinking. LOL I will be more careful next time. So glad you are getting rain at a time when you need it. We have a chance of rain today and tomorrow, however we have sunshine at the moment.

floralgirl said...

ha ha ha that's okay, beach away! I'm just jealous, when my ship finally comes in, I'm moving to the beach.
Have a great day everybody!

Lolly said...

I forgot to tell y'all. My kitchen window wren's nest has 5 cute speckled eggs. Can hardly wait for them to hatch and see Momma Wren coming and going!

Armadillo has dung himself a nice hole in my bed around the stream. Grrrr! Covered my impatients with dirt. Grrrr!!!

Lolly said...

Jack has headed outside. I am heading that way too, and will try to refrain from doing stuff that will irritate my back.

BBL

Sounds like the rain has stopped at the nest. Palmer backing up for a poop shoot. Don't fledge backwards, Palmer!!!!!

Judie said...

You don't hear a train near the nest because Sharon has the train and is likely headed to the b.

Really wish I could see the nest. ):

Back later this afternoon.

movin said...

The PH chicks are both feeding .. back-to-back, and they both are getting their "feathers ruffled" as their tails interfere with each other.. Hahahaha.

hedgie said...

Heading out. BBL.

Mema Jo said...

Judie I thought you had the nest cam up yesterday... what happened?
I was very relieved to hear about the decision from the hearing board.. Teachers Rule!!

Lolly - you keep saying about favoring your back and you keep doing things like Laundry and Yard Work... Going to have to talk to Jack about holding you down!
How about that armidillo dunging holes.. Get the shotgun Jack!

Mema Jo said...

Delphia - Good for you! You Go Gal

Mema Jo said...

You're going to get wet, Hedgie!

Mits said...

for JUDY......

How come I'm not seeing any video play?
You need to have the latest Adobe Flash Player installed. Click here to get it: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

If you have the latest Adobe Flash Player, it's possible that it's corrupted. This is easily fixed by uninstalling it and then reinstalling it.

Another thing to try is using a different browser. There's Internet Explorer 8, Firefox 3, Safari 4, Opera 10, etc. Note that Internet Explorer 6 is not a supported browser, although it might work in some cases.

this is from the OC web site

movin said...

I just opened the WE site. And the male was just landing with a fish; the dominant chick came in a millisecond from the far side of the nest and grabbed the fish for herself!

I forgot how much competition they have when there are more than one chick in the nest.

Mema Jo said...

I remember how Ms Inbetween could out run her 2 siblings and grab the catch of the day!

Mema Jo said...

Taking a break for lunch and hoping Palmer is 'too wet to fly'

Eagle-Eyed Shar said...

Lunch just arrived! Pretty sure the fish is still alive.

Mema Jo said...

Our gal Palmer knows what to do!
Wow - glad she is so vocal - I came running to see what was going on.

I wonder if Lib thinks she is going
to share?

Mema Jo said...

This is very interesting
situation

Mema Jo said...

Now she is going to it!

Mema Jo said...

I thought Dad was going to leave

BEagle said...

Hello. It's fun watching Palmer with the floppy fish.

I hear the rain.

Nice updates, WVgal Dana. Thank you.

Mema Jo said...

With the size of that fish Palmer won't be leaving today!

wvgal_dana said...

With all the eating Palmer has done today. I wouldn't want to be near that sycamore tree because of those big poop shoots LOL

wvgal_dana said...

Does anyone know the answer to this question?

With this oil spill. There will be many birds and animals that will need rescued and cleaned up.

Who will pay for all of that? (I know who should.)

BEagle said...

The competition is amazing at the TH nest and also the efforts of the adults to make sure their chicks get what they need.

Palmer is lucky in that respect but she may learn about competition once she out of the nest and on her own.

Mema Jo said...

Well, we would all pray that BP will foot the bill. Did you read Delphia's email to all of us that she is on call to go help!

BEagle said...

I haven't heard much about plans for the birds animals affected by the oil spilling.

Dawn has been advertising. The dish soap. They showed people washing the animals in Dawn. I think they are offering up some of their profits to help.

Outside of that, haven't heard much.

Mema Jo said...

BEagle you are so right that the competition is a Survival task for the eagles. I just hope now that she knows how to mantle (Mantel?)
that is the first step.
She will be taken to Fishing school with dad or mom after she fledges. At least we think that is why she will be absent from the nest for periods at a time.

Mema Jo said...

I guess she is saving some of her fish for later.......

BEagle said...

I would take my dish soap and help if I could.

BEagle said...

Oh, so Lib and Belle will take Palmer out for lessons in hunting and fishing! Didn't think of that.

Has Palmer had anything tougher than a fish to mantle. Mantle is a funny word. It's seems like it should be dis-mantle.

Mema Jo said...

Mantle in this case means Hovering over and claiming

Listening to these raindrops is making me sleepy.......

BEagle said...

I understand the term mantle now. Like when a mantle is thrown over someone.

I see. I thought it was referring to the ability to tear into the food. Like de-feathering or de-furring.

Still catching up on earlier posts, I see there's someone ready to get word to go help with the birds and animals. Yea.

BP better help.

BEagle said...

It doesn't seem like the adults are bringing any more fresh greenery like they used to.

Probably not a need to like before.

BEagle said...

Only one chick in view at the TH nest. I guess the bigger is off to the left again, I hope just out of site.

BEagle said...

There's the other TH chick back at the usual post. Sneaked in while I check out PH nest.

Those two at PH are huge!

paula eagleholic said...

Lolly, maybe you should be shooting the armadillos while Jack works in the yard. You could just sit on the porch and shoot from there, LOL

Where are they when they aren't in your yard?

BEagle said...

The PH twins are soooo big, they don't have much of a runway to leave the nest with.

TH and PH are working those wings. Not so much at WE nest.

BEagle said...

Can't you play soccer with the armos when they get in a ball?

Mema Jo said...

NBG Juvie is on the branch next to the nest.

paula eagleholic said...

I think Palmer is doing a fine job of grabbing every fish that is brought into the nest.

Hey, that looks like a turtle shell! Think she was trying to munch on that earlier.

BEagle said...

The adult at Hornby is not sharing Phoenix at the moment. I was hoping to see some wing shrugs.

Lolly said...

Rain drops here, but they are only drops. I want rain! Jack put fertilizer down yesterday.

You would not want me holding a gun. I probably could not hit the side of a barn. However, when I was young I could shoot cicadas with a BB gun.

Whooops! It is raining. Gotta go to the patio to watch.

Mema Jo said...

I am checking out other cams too
Wanted to see Phoenix but with that stick and Mom - that's all you see.

BEagle said...

No hope of seeing progress with the Sidney chick. Can't see anything at all through that cam.

Mema Jo said...

Palmer had a huge fish around 1:00
I am hoping with that feeding she knows it just isn't time to leave the nest yet. Now tomorrow when the sun is shinning it could be a different story!

Going to take a break

BBILW

BEagle said...

Where? Turtle shell?
Isn't that the fish Lib brought in?

It was still flopping when Palmer went after it.

I was wondering what the blob is right behind Palmer.

BEagle said...

Palmer getting ready for company?
She's stretching those wings out.

Let's see some flotation exercises.

BEagle said...

She's just a wee bit wet.
Now she's got that fish.
May be the flopping annoyed her earlier.

paula eagleholic said...

Well, what I thought was a turtle shell, was the fish. Looks like a catfish. Palmer tearing into it now.

wvgal_dana said...

BEagle I have Pelican and Two Harbors up now.

Where is Phoenix?

BEagle said...

It took all to see all three at the Caltrans. Finally, saw the 3rd way out there on a limb.

Boris' granddaddy has an annoying web across their lens.

hedgie said...

Mits, I DID get soaked! HAd to change clothes when I got home. Can't manage an umbrella with a dog on a leash and checkbook in hand, or carrying a stack of boxes!

Miserable out there, for sure. Yuck.

Delphia, good luck if you get the call.

Dana, suppsedly BP is to pay for all costs involved, but listen to what the shrimpers and others who depend on the gulf to make a living are saying about THAT! They haven't even paid the ones who are out setting booms for them.

hedgie said...

Palmer is working on the fish again.

BEagle said...

Oh shoot. I am not previewing again.

Here's a copy and paste on the Hornby.

I think Palmer waited to make sure the fish stopped moving...so she would get a fin smack.
