Good Friday the 13th morning. I have just checked all the nests and everyone seems to be fed and resting; even "wiggle worm"at Two Harbours. I read the blogs from last night and this am and saw where sharon was haunting her halls at 12:44 this morning and discovered Belle in the nest. That really must have been a shocker. Right on Sharon. I also saw where Jill was the earlybird after jim taking over for Suzanne. All these eagles don't know it, but there are eyes on them night and day! :)
Paula, so glad you got to thee the hatching of another egg at Santa Cruz. That is what I get just laying in bed on my final day of Spring Break. I missed it> :( Now I have to wait for her to get up to see the new baby.
While I am still typing, has anyone seen anymore heads in the Maine nest this morning? I thought that maybe we might see another one pop up any day now. Where there is one, there might be two! :)
It's snowing or sleeting in ME at the moment and they have about 5 days of miserable cold stormy weather predicted. At least we saw Mom feed a chick this morning, so the chick survived the storm last night there. Keep the good thoughts coming !!
Afternoon all, I am behind on reading the blogs (again) Hope this one posts for me. I pray you all have a good evening. Me, I never took much stock in Friday 13th and luck and the like. BUT I DO Surely Believe in BLESSINGS> so God Bless You all today. love donna
Carolina... I have not been watching all morning...the pair were in the nest very early in the a.m., but I am not aware of them being here more recently.
The last time that happened, we were told that the parent had brought a bird of some kind back to the nest, plucked the feathers out and then fed it to the babies.
That poor little chick in Norfolk. I am about ready to climb that tree and push him forward to get his meal. It is almost one and he only got to push in for a few scraps. Someone needs to tell his parent that there are three of them, not two.
If I were to have to call it, I would say chicken. Used to raise chickens and looks like chicken to me. Mattie is a 13th day blessing, isn't she, sister Sharon? donna
Gone already. I was watching in Beakspeak and turned to our nest and there was the eagle. Don't know how long it had been there. Just one sitting in the egg cup. I don't see any eggs:(
Not sure where the botanical gardens are but I know there are chicken farms all over VA. Could be a seagull, I saw what looked like a down feather which made me think duck.
Jo, your "bad boy" has really had a full day. He doesnt want to take a nap. Naps are for sissys. He wants to eat and play and for heaven sake dont sit on him he wants to see......Poor dad is exhausted. Where is mom when you need her?
I don't believe the nest is deeper today (they have been building the sides up for months), but I think Liberty has been bringing in softer stuff like grasses, which is another positive sign they will lay again.
I did get some pics and I certainly will send them on to you Jo. The computer and eagle site will be the first thing I check when I come home at night. You can be sure of that and I'll read the blogs and see the albums. You all had better keep on the ball or should I say EGG. :)
Sharon, I can't believe you snapped that pic of Belle in the middle of the night last night. Shows us they are probably roosting in the tree above the nest.
Hi Paula - IWS had a record crowd today online! The little bobble head at SC did very well today. Can't get over how active they are a few hrs after hatching.
Candy - thanks for the pics. Will get into album shortly. I am laughing about REBUFFING; however, that is what it says! Buffering buffering buffering!!!
Paula, I can't seem to get the address you gave in your blog to come up. It just comes up to youtube.com after I put the whole thing in there. I tried animals and pets, etc. I don't know where to look. Help!
Was finally in BW site -- GOOD NEWS FOR A LUCKY DAY Meanwhile while the camera was down, our ospreys were seen mating this morning and appeared to have surprisingly produced an egg!
Well, it is almost 10pm, so I think I'll call it quits for now. Maybe I'll check back in to see if I can catch Belle in the nest tonight if I can't sleep. Maybe I'll get lucky. Day is done. See you all tomorrow. Good night
Jim, Those eaglets in VA are really getting large. Spotted one next to the adult & WOW - No wonder Lib or Belle last year would do a food drop to our 3 rather then go into the nest.
Good Morning harbinger Glad to post you have seen L and B and well whatever it is they are up to IN the nest is a good thing. hope everyones day goes well.
Something definitely has their attention. Wish the live feed was up. Those ospreys are odd, I couldn't believe they suddenly had an egg. This morning at 4:45 she wasn't even sitting on the egg, was on the ledge of the platform.
Well while we wait for them to come back ....soon I hope I made a couple of videos yesterday for the Santa Cruz hatch and the Two Harobors Fostering. If you want to see them the easiest way is to click on my name on the blog here and got to the For the Love of Eagles BLOG OR You can go directly to You Tube to watch by going here
be sure the whole url copies into you address box before heading to You Tube. I have found that with the links I follow for Paula's videos I have to copy line one and paste and then come back and copy line 2 so they are both in the address bar without any spaces...then POOF...off to You Tube. Once there you will find several more videos under More from this user I would recommend if you haven't seen it to watch the Poop Shootin Boogie and the Welcome Baby Barton Cove Videos
I hope you enjoy them...they are certainly fun to make!!
Glo, I loved the poop shootin boogy, and I am sure Mema Jo did too. I will never forget (first one I saw) of Spunky's little poop shoot, went straight onto Big Boy. donna
Isn't it odd the egg at BW osprey cam is getting so little attention? Is it really an egg? Headed out to BW in about an hour. If I hear anything I'll pass it on.
Bob, She sorta finally looks like she is on it....been watching this morning. I'm not sure if they don't start the incubation until the second egg is laid or not.
Good morning all eagle watchers. I am late getting on, but was up off and on all night looking for Belle in the nest. The last time I looked was about 5:30 this am. I guess I should have waited a little longer. Sounds as if I have been missing alot already. Glad to hear there has been some action in our nest. We sure do have some large grass in there now.
Jo, thank you for giving me Paula's URL. I looked into it before going to bed. It was well worth watching. You gals are something else with your videos. I wanted to thank you last night, but it was late and saw that you had signed off.
Good Late Morning to all you eagle watchers All you early birds got to see some action in the nest. Looks as though the little blackbird is wondering the same as we are as to What are they going to do with all that new long grass? This will be interesting to say the least. Thanks for am photos Dana & Jim. Hello harbinger! Candy-you're welcome. Sorry your nightly checks on the nest came up empty.
Looking at BW Osprey nest right now - I really can't spot an egg. I know Lisa's remark was "what appeared to be an egg". Maybe Bob or Lisa will give us some new info. I thought Lisa said she was going to the refuge this weekend.
glo, I just spent the rest of the morning looking and sending on some of your videos. They were very beautifully done. Now it is on to looking around at all the nests. BW osprey nest is up I take it?
The closer I look - the more I question that it is an egg. I sure hope Lisa updates with some info soon. I was thinking that like a falcon - the osprey won't nest on the egg until the full clutch is laid. Paula mentioned something to this effect earlier on the blog about their nesting habits.
BW Webmaster must have heard us talking.. Most recent update 04/15/07: From the refuge, it appears that three ospreys are fighting over the platform. We've seen the adult in the platform getting dive-bombed by a competing osprey. This is likely why the parents are not incubating the egg.
2 osprey are at platform now.. Don't know if it is the couple or the 2 male competitors...... Now there is only one.
Candy & Tawnya: On the right hand side of the BW cams is the POP UP CAM Click on it and then you don't need full screen...
ThanksKate for Maines' update. I was there earlier and could see the wind picking up. Good strong thoughts going up to ME. I just wonder if there will be a 2nd chick?
Tawnya, if you have already clicked on watch it live, and the pic is up, but small and live, then just double click on the pic and it will be a full screen.
Tawnya My comment about full cam view was misleading. I meant that the Pop Up Cam for both the eagles and Osprey on the BW site are cams you can move around your screen - instead of the complete site taking up your whole screen.
I am probably getting you more confused..... LET ME KNOW Tawnya if you get what I am saying.... Someone else can probably say it better.... and I'll find them for you!
Hi Jo. Haven't watched it yet, I will. Just stopped in for a bite of lunch, going back outside while it's not raining. All my neighbors are mowing their grass.
I'm at the refuge now -- there is a three-osprey fight over the platform or the female, not sure which. The parents are so busy fighting this third osprey, they just abandoned the egg, and crows took it. The female on the nest is getting dive-bombed by the third osprey so it's rather chaotic at the nest. Best we can hope for is that the fight will work itself out and we'll get another egg or two.
Candy, I'll never give up hoping for our nest. Just won't know until time goes on. I can't imagine what they were thinking when they brought in such a bundle of long grass - I wonder if the guard saw them getting it from the field? He did one time.
Need to leave for awhile... Usually when I say that - in come the eagles. Maybe this time will also work. They really need to spend some time with their nestorations.
MITS will be glad to know that the pandas love the new MISTING SYSTEM at the zoo. Sitting right where they can get it on them on CAM 2.
I have no clue which 2 pandas are in the yard together right now. Romping and playing...... If it is Tai and Mei - well Tai has grown so much I just can't be sure.
Hello Everyone! Just a quick in and out for right now. I was just checking in on all the cams and the Barton Cove is back up for right now. Hope you all have a great day!

Good Morning everyone. Wouldn't this be a wonderful time to be able to see the nest again!!! Have a great eagle viewing day.
Good Morning All. Great to start my day on a new thread. Hopefully our cam will clear up- it was starting to act this way last evening at dusk.
Guess I had best go read the previous comments -
Happy Friday the 13th
Make it a good day
Was checking other cams around the country and WHOA WV has a clear cam now! Thanks!
Just check in on SC and they have a new chick. Looks like it has just hatched or just finishing
Santa Cruz chick is hatching!!
In case you didn't see it on the other thread, Belle was in the nest at 12:44 a.m. Couldn't believe my eyes!

Jo you surprise me at how you can keep the eagle watch up like you do. I get tired out thinking about you watching and being always vigilant! :)
Yepper! Had to first of all check out SC - STORM - good name for that little fuzzy! unless they want to call it Lucky
OK, Sharon- So Belle was there & what a late night viewer you are. lol
Need to check out emails....

Just saw a pic on IWS of the SC chick - Just as adorable as all the others I have seen this season!!!
Going out for awhile this afternoon -

Nest surely looks awful inviting for an egg! :)
Chick visible at Kent
Sorry, I meant at S. Cruz.

Both adults at S.C. now.
Blog has been kind of silent today. I take it our eagles didn't come to our nest yet today? :(

Carolina...
I have not been watching all morning...the pair were in the nest very early in the a.m., but I am not aware of them being here more recently.

Can anyone tell what they are being fed in VA. Feathers everywhere!
The last time that happened, we were told that the parent had brought a bird of some kind back to the nest, plucked the feathers out and then fed it to the babies.
It also looks as if they were feeding on a turtle and a fish. The biggest one is helping himself or trying to, when the parent stops feeding.
Thanks Jim for the info. I am beginning to think we'll have to watch the other nests this year.
LOL, look at the VA nest - feathers everywhere for sure - whole nest is white!!!
They have something soft to lay on for awhile; their own feather bed.

Here's a link from the Bangor Daily News about the Maine miracle!
My Mattie was born on a Friday, February 13. Gave me a whole new meaning for that day! Nothing but good stuff happens on this day!
The light color and quantity of feathers are making me wonder what kind of bird it might have been ... in VA this time of year. Any ideas?
The oldest chick is standing (pretty well) and flapping her wings after that meal.
Jim
You can see the Santa Cruz chick again.
Jim
I didn't see the bird or the feathers, guessin it would be too small for a chicken. Maybe a small duck?
Looks like a chicken to me. What other birds live at the botanical gardens? I think they might be missing one.
I was wondering about a chicken myself, Jill, but I wondered where they would get a chicken around there.
Would someone in Morfolk please let that baby chick in to get something to eat. PLEASE?
Could be a sea gull, a pigeon or a

Eagle in nest again/
It seems as if the nest keeps getting deeper and deeper. Could they be taking stuff out of this nest and be pputting it someplace else?
Gone again. It seems to be the light colored one.
Eagle in nest!
eagle in the nest
I think it's Liberty waiting for Belle to get the action started.
Anyone know why and how long BW is down?
Jim
Gone again :(
I haven't been able to get into BW for most of the day. It says it can't connect.
back again
Eagle Back
Glad they came for an evening visit since we haven't seen anything of them today. I'd say it is Liberty looking for that egg laying Belle!
I guess Belle is late for her date. That will never do GONE AGAIN. He won't wait forever.
I don't believe the nest is deeper today (they have been building the sides up for months), but I think Liberty has been bringing in softer stuff like grasses, which is another positive sign they will lay again.
But I sure wish they would get it started.
Jim
Glad you are back Jo. I have only seen one eagle on the nest each time. I think they were wondering where everyone has been! :)
I sure hope you are right Jim.
If anything happens when I am in school again, I hope someone gets pics.
Back again
Back again
Just won't give up working in that egg well. I notice some pines brought into the nest.
Talk about the devil and
There's Belle
Yea, two birds!
Nest is ready
Hope you are!!!
Sooooooooooooo Much For That!
I'm with you Jo! I thought that maybe the 13th would bring us luck!
Eagle Spirits starting to come......
Well, I am home. I see I missed the last visit. Maybe they will be back. Sure do wish Belle would spend the whole night there!
Hi Sharon, you just missed them.
Maybe she will come back.
I see fresh pine in the nest - Poor Liberty is trying so hard to give her a nice nest!
Jim and Candy - if you have pics, send them on.
When you're back in school, Candy, you'll need to look at the album when you come home.
I did get some pics and I certainly will send them on to you Jo. The computer and eagle site will be the first thing I check when I come home at night. You can be sure of that and I'll read the blogs and see the albums. You all had better keep on the ball or should I say EGG. :)
Welcome home Sharon. Hope you had a nice day today. The nest was slow but all the other chicks made for good watching.
My son just stopped by - My daughter just called - I'll be back as soon as I take care of their needs!
Food and directions in that order.......
I just got into BW again..
Jim
Thanks for letting us know Jim. It is nice to see they are doing ok.
It is feeding time at Santa Cruz with onlly one bobbing head yet.
Carolina...
One of the Santa Cruz eggs was broken over a week ago, so the single chick will be all this year.
They only had one last year too...the first one to hatch naturally in the Channel Islands in at least 50 years. Things are getting better.
You can see the Two Harbors chicks also.
Jim
I didn't realize that they had broken one egg this year. Right now they are feeding at Two Harbors.
My guess was either a duck or a sea gull or a pigeon or a....at Norfolk.
Glad Lib and Belle stopped by. They'd better hurry up!!
Dinner is over at Two Harbors and now the poor chicks are being "smothered" again with an eagle body. :)
Welcome in again Paula. Not much doing in our nest today until the pm. It has been fun to watch all the happinings in the other nests, tho.
Sharon, I can't believe you snapped that pic of Belle in the middle of the night last night. Shows us they are probably roosting in the tree above the nest.
Oh, for sure Candy. Have enjoyed Santa Cruz today. Got a couple of videos....here's one...from there you can find the other....

Cam still freezing up like crazy, they had almost 400 people at one point today trying to view the cam.
Wow! Santa Cruz has sure been bush. No wonder it kept rebuffering and rebuffering, if there is such a word.

Talking about "active," I was looking at the VA nest today, and those chicks are constantly in motion...even sleeping they are stretching and rolling.
You never get that feeling from the 30 sec. cam at BW, or ours for that matter.

female, not sure which. The parents are so busy fighting this third osprey, they just abandoned the egg, and crows took it.
The female on the nest is getting dive-bombed by the third osprey so it's rather
chaotic at the nest.
Best we can hope for is that the fight will work itself out and we'll get another egg or two.
I got part of my lawn mowed last night. Probably won't get the rest done tonight if the rain moves in early.
Must have been a standoff at the nest the other day, when the two Osprey were on the nest, but not acknowledging each other.
Oh well, so much for that egg.
It does seem as if they are still building up our nest, Jo. Maybe there is still hope.
Candy, I'll never give up hoping for our nest. Just won't know until time goes on. I can't imagine what they were thinking when they brought in such a bundle of long grass - I wonder if the guard saw them getting it from the field? He did one time.
Bet Bob will come back with some interesting shots!
Paula My thoughts exactly!
Crow is back at BW - probably looking for more eggs.
I have Dana's and Jim's morning pictures in the Momsters' album.
Paula Do you hear any heavy air traffic up in your neck of the woods? Sounds like some really large aircraft zooming overhead down here.
Haven't really noticed anything Jo.
They have left the area... I am thankful I am not in a war zone where planes fly over all the time......
Going to be gone until 7:00 or so.
Headed to Church service.
BBL
GOOD DAY, EVERYONE...
I think the cam is going berserk. How's yours??
Jim
We have a lovely pic from our camera once again!
Jim, it sucks!
