With our lack of activity in the nest, this has prompted us to start a dialogue to plan the improvements to the cam that we had hoped to deal with last year. I'll keep you posted on the planning as we go forward.
Good morning Jo, hope you have this fine weather down at the beach. I am use to saying the shore since I grew up in NYC we would go to the Jersey *shore* for summer fun
My puter here is on dial up & I am so spoiled - Megan, don't know how you put up with it! Weather is really good - of course I'm inside getting the house de-winterized in a relaxed mood of course. Well I am out of here and will try to catch up later this evening. Take care!
Robyn - Mits said PS is up! I still see that crazy unhatched egg.
Well, I see dark clouds coming over the mountain from Hedgesville, so I would get outside and dewinterize when the weather turns ugly, hopefully it will stay north of you.
My mom and I were discussing the PS egg, better one chick then none, right?
I just turned her on to the BW cam, another cam for her to panic over as they branch.
Where my folks live in FL they had an Osprey nest near their home but the hurricane 2 years ago knocked the tree down, so I am sure they are closer to the water now.
Quite the smorgasbord in VA today, bird, fish what next. They sure get their fill of food. They must be full from lunch not to long ago as no one is going for the bird entree. Nevermind they are on it now.
Just wanted to report the birds seen from my neck of the woods today -- pileated woodpecker (huge), downy woodpecker, chickadees, titmouse, sparrows (all kinds), gray catbird (first time seeing one), male and female indigo buntings (first time seeing a female), grosbeaks, towhees, common grackle, mourning doves, and cardinals. What a sight today!!!
OH, nice list, Sharon, about the same as mine, I still have a grosbeak hanging around my feeder. I haven't seen the indigo bunting lately, and usually it's the male. Glad to see you on here, Jo, ain't dial up just great! I just tell myself, it's better than nothing. Robynann, I used to go to the Jersey shore when I was a kid, still do when I can, Ocean City, NJ, my favorite beach.
Steven, Our Wood Thrush has been here for several days and baths in our birdbath, nearly emptying it of it contents. But that is ok because we enjoy seeing it in our feeding area.
Mits-- Did you see the Hawk (must have been the Dad) feed the chicks a few beaksfull and then took off with the left-over meal? I really don't think the Mother would have done that!
Mits, just so you know there are 3 people who work/volunteer in or near the Asia Trail that do not know you. One guy was fairly new. One of the girls barely knew her own name and the 3rd said "Check the Panda House" Well duh, I just told her you worked with the pandas. But we did have a fun day at the zoo. But no camels, giraffes or zebras. And where the heck are they hiding the rest of the elephants. Got some goo panda pics and big cats too. Just got home.
Jill, I was the only voulunteer on Asian Trail this afternoon....There are about 500 volunteers and 99% of us don't know each other. There are 3 Elephants, saw them today, they are right across from panda exhibit, there is a zebra, up the hill from the panda entrance, don't even know if we have camels and the 1 Giraffe we had moved to Fla this past November.
We asked a lady at the start of the trail. She didn't have a clue. Just down from here was a guy who said he hadn't been there long. And then on the second trip around we asked a random volunteer sitting at the Panda Cafe. Guess we must have asked every zoo person within 100 yards of you and missed you. Zebra must have been asleep we couldn't see it/them. Are the elephants all the same size? Everytime we saw one it was alone so we assumed it was the only one. There used to be camels but maybe they aren't there any more. I will send you some of the pics when I get them down loaded. We had a great time but I am sorry we didn't find you. Oh well maybe next time. Not sure which two pandas we saw or we could have seen all three. When we were in the house 2 kept coming and going. Then when we were outside we saw one sitting way up eating bamboo. I will send the pics and you can tell me who we saw. Loved the tigers. They were sort of playing.
I wanted to take the time and come in to "thank everyone that had a part in my birthday wishes". The birthday cards. Truly thank you so very much. You'll never really know how each one actually did something different for my day. It has been the most blessed and wonderful birthday year I've ever had. THANK YOU EVERYONE IN THE BLOG AND IN THE CHAT AND JUST ALL THAT WISHED ME A HAPPY BIRTHDAY VERY MUCH ( :
GOOD EVENING/GOOD MORNING, EVERYBODY... ***************
Everybody seems to have found other things to do this evening...
Doesn't seem to be a lot of action in our nest lately, does there? ************
I didn't think the Two Harbors chicks were old enough, but I just saw the older one walking upright (even with a full crop), and then she started flapping her fuzzy wings and took a short flight in the nest.
She must be exceptionally precocious, don't you think?
Hope you get a lot of rest and have a great weekend.
Good morning, eagle world. Beautiful night out! 67° at my house, 68° here. Almost don't need a jacket! (Unless you work in a refrigerator like I do, and you need it inside!) Believe it or not, BOTH eaglets are in the nest sleeping at BW! Haven't seen that for a while. Mother osprey is on eggs, our nest MT, still too dark out to see PA and WA, and yeah, we still have 4 barnowls! I'm always a little nervous bringing them up, just always wonder if the little number 4 owlet is gonna still be there! One of them is eating a rodent, about half the size of them, so it may be the little one. Takes them a while, and they have to stop for a breather, but they get it down eventually! You guys must have been busy last night, think I'll go read the short blogs. All have a great eagle day. Eyes to the sky, see the raptors fly!
Well, can't really see much now. Think I can still see a head, but man, with those eagle spirits and the blinds, it's hard to see. Now I can see a darker body. Looks like head in egg cup. Can't see body anymore, but can see white head. Or could be the tail. Right in the middle of the screen.
Osprey is up, still looks like 2 eggs. Took a pic, I'll send to Lisa. That light kind of glares, makes white and light colors very hard to see. Osprey back on eggs now.
Well, I sent the 3 pics around that I took of whoever was in our nest. But the cam now has the psychadelic spots and black lines all through it. If anyone were to visit now, we'd never see them! Ok, now we have lots of black and white lines decorated with the psycho spots...oops, now psycho lines. Ugh, got to get rid of this!
Awww, the cutie pie chicks in PA are eating breakfast. Mouths wide open! Bw chicks are MIA, probably on branches. You can almost see part of one on the very top left of cam. Osprey still on eggs, looks like mom, but she won't get up to see if she still has 2 or 3 eggs. PA chicks are on the egg while Mom is feeding them. Owls are snoozing standing up, and of course still dark in Kent.
Having a switch at the osprey cam. 2 Adults and 2 eggs visible. Both juvies also visible on the eagle nest. Our cam is a mess, it was clear for a second there. One of the owls is eating, and our PA falcon has her wings around the chicks. Other egg still there, maybe it will hatch today. Oh, osprey just laid down on the eggs.
Good morning Suzanne and all in eagle land. Just got everything set up for the kids, so checked the blog. The fog is pretty thick down here this morning, but it has warmed up considerably yesterday. Hooray!
The last few days we have had a mallard duck couple in and out of our yard; sometimes just sitting there and others just walking around. I am out there watching and hoping that they will nest in the yard. It is funny how the male guards over the female. I got up this morning to find my husband tossing small pieces of bread out to the female. Sure wish they would stick around.
Glad to hear that you did see someone in our nest this morning, Suzanne/ At least we know that they are still around and getting along.
Last night my husband, myself and our visiter from Poland went out to dinner at the Colington Cafe down here for our 43rd wedding anniversary. So I didn't have too much time watching birds yesterday. So glad you all keep us informed on the blog about the happenings.
Morning, Candy. How are you today? Sorry about the fog and weather you're having. I had foggy wisps coming in, but not much and not for very long. Going to be a beautiful day here, I think. Didn't get any rain yesterday, so send some on up, ok? We'll share our sun with you!
Oh if anyone of you get down to the Outerbanks, the Colington Cafe is a real nice place to eat. It is in Kill Devil Hills, just down a little from the main road and past our KDH First Flight Schools. I would reacommend it to anyone and the people are sooo nice.
So sorry to hear that Jill and Mits didn't connect up at the zoo. It is such a big place, tho, and with sooo many volunteers. It really sounds as if you gave it a good try, tho, Jill.
Sorry Suzanne, can't send any rain today. It seems the storm has gone further south around S. Carolina and Georgie/Florida. I am soooo sick of rain. I'm hoping the fog clears here and we have a beautiful day. I have to get our tomatoes in and some more flowers planted.
Have a good day, Candy! I didn't read all the blogs yet, didn't know Jill and Mits didn't connect! Sorry to hear that, think it would have been fun. I'm going to miss you at the nest too, Mits! Dang! But have to work that day. Maybe next nest visit can be on a Sat or holiday, or something. Our nest it MT, but cam has black lines on it. Both BW chicks are in cam view. Osprey on eggs, PA falcon has wings out trying to cover all those little chicks. Can't see the 5th egg, but it was there earlier. Getting dawn in Kent and WA osprey nest! Barn owls are just hanging around. Think the biggest one is in front of the cam, good view of him.
Oh, never mind, dumb me. Think she has her neck feathers fluffed out! Well, she had her head turned, and I couldn't tell what it was. Ok, won't attempt close cam viewing with funny colors anymore! Obviously makes me blind!
Morning, CostumeLady! I've been watching Kent, forgot to post. they had a switch, one went to the tree then took off, now other parent is giving chicks breakfast. Has wings out protecting them, now. Now feathers just blowing.
Good morning, Suzanne. I hope you are feeling better and I hope you have your own computer back with your favorites, etc.
Mine has taken to making terrible noises in the morning ... I think the cooling fan needs replacement ... until I restart it a couple of times. Once it's settled into its 'groove' it is whisper quiet.... And then I forget to get one on the way home, of course.
The red-gold color at Kent is the rising sun striking the camera lens...you can see the effect best in cam #1.
I didn't read of any weagle sightings this morning, did I miss it?

How can I attempt to be 1st and yet be so far away? That is very good news Steve and seems to be a very smart step ahead.
Good Late Morning Everyone
Time for me to hit the road. All have a great eagle day! (Nice to have my computer back!) Eyes to the sky, see the raptors fly!

Feeding at VA - beautiful young eaglets, they are!
Looks like Dad at VA w/ a huge fish!
Fishy is history!
Quite the smorgasbord in VA today, bird, fish what next. They sure get their fill of food. They must be full from lunch not to long ago as no one is going for the bird entree. Nevermind they are on it now.
Happy Birthday Dana, hope you have a wonderful day. and May God Bless You with many many more. donna
MT nest still breaks my heart, but good news from Steve makes me feel much better. BBL need to read blog from yesterday. donna
Good afternoon everyone!

Wood thrushes singing at NCTC. First time heard this year.
Hello all you bird watchers out there...I saw a dove today..tee-hee! JILL, WHERE WERE YOU?
Steven,
Our Wood Thrush has been here for several days and baths in our birdbath, nearly emptying it of it contents. But that is ok because we enjoy seeing it in our feeding area.
Was just watching the red-tailed hawks up in NY and the one chick was standing on the other chicks back....too cute
Red Tailed Hawks---Mom and Dad are BOTH in the nest feeding babies. What a treat to see that!
Mits--
Did you see the Hawk (must have been the Dad) feed the chicks a few beaksfull and then took off with the left-over meal? I really don't think the Mother would have done that!
I missed it:(
WEAGLE IN OUR NEST!
All gone:(
Feeding time at VA, adult is there with the 3 eaglets.

OMG, someone is in our nest!!! It's 4:43!!! Talk about early!!
Well, can't really see much now. Think I can still see a head, but man, with those eagle spirits and the blinds, it's hard to see. Now I can see a darker body. Looks like head in egg cup. Can't see body anymore, but can see white head. Or could be the tail. Right in the middle of the screen.
Ok, now I can't see anything, so they've either gone, or my eyes have gone trying to strain and see.
Owlet got the rodent down!
Osprey is up, still looks like 2 eggs. Took a pic, I'll send to Lisa. That light kind of glares, makes white and light colors very hard to see. Osprey back on eggs now.

You can almost see a wing tip on the eagle cam.
Well, there was someone in the nest, but pic is so bad! Think it was Lib, cause I saw him leave from his perch.
Check out the BW eagle cam...all you can see is 2 yellow feet! Too funny.
Having a switch at the osprey cam. 2 Adults and 2 eggs visible. Both juvies also visible on the eagle nest. Our cam is a mess, it was clear for a second there. There is some very bright red showing on Kent cam 2. Almost looks like something big is on fire, but I sure hope not!!! It's been there for a while...
Glad to hear that you did see someone in our nest this morning, Suzanne/ At least we know that they are still around and getting along.

I have to get something to eat, I'm starving! BBIALW, all have a great day.
All this talk about food....my stomach can read that, so it's decided it's MT, and time to get something in it!!! Later.
So sorry to hear that Jill and Mits didn't connect up at the zoo. It is such a big place, tho, and with sooo many volunteers. It really sounds as if you gave it a good try, tho, Jill.

Clear pic (well, almost) on our cam. We have some new added leaf decorations!
What in the world is under the osprey? She looks like she's laying on a receiving blanket or something. Too cute.
Oh, never mind, dumb me. Think she has her neck feathers fluffed out! Well, she had her head turned, and I couldn't tell what it was.
Ok, won't attempt close cam viewing with funny colors anymore! Obviously makes me blind!
You can see a parent and the chicks in Kent. I'm guessing it's Spirit, he's usually the one there. Can see the osprey on eggs, too.
Good Morning Suz and Beachmom--
A beautiful morning here in Martinsburg/Shepherdstwn. About 65degrees. Quite foggy earlier but clearing up now.
Carolinabeachmom--check your email.
Osprey on side of nest, 2 eggs visible.
Breakfast time in Kent.
Morning, CostumeLady! I've been watching Kent, forgot to post. they had a switch, one went to the tree then took off, now other parent is giving chicks breakfast. Has wings out protecting them, now. Now feathers just blowing.
Well shut my mouth! That must have been Star on the chicks earlier, cause that's Spirit now.
BW parent feeding chicks. PA falcon trying to catch a nap. Spirit on babies, WA osprey on eggs, and the barn owls are calling it a night...sleeping.
Good morning, Suzanne.
I hope you are feeling better and I hope you have your own computer back with your favorites, etc.
