Thanks for the new thread, Steve! Hope your day is going well!
Bringing this from the old thread:
Hi, Shirley!
Been wanting to ask you if you were the one who had trouble putting labels with pictures on your blog. Couldn't get the blog to get things in order. Wanted to say, left-to-right, who was who in each group picture, but it kept getting scrambled. Any advice?
Shep sure has come a long way. He's figured out that the bobbleheads need SMALL bites. He's feeding the little one now. Awwww, those two are SOOO cute!!! Think the nest will soon need higher crib rails, though. The bigger eaglet is in crawl mode right now!
Shep's kind of settled down behind both babies now. Do they still fit underneath him? He ought to throw some flugg on top of the bigger baby. The little one's in the shade, but the big one's trying for a suntan!
Yep 1st born is out of the egg cup. He went out there when Shep was feeding the littest one. lol I guess he thought if he laid on the fish he would get more. He really got fed a lot. lol
Checking in from school to see how our eagles are doing. Andy, very cute story about Latte and your glucose monitor! I sure wish we could have a cat, but 66 2/3% of the people currently living in the house are allergic to them. I'm the 33 1/3% who isn't.
Sandi, my SIL, Marq, is really, really allergic to cats too, but for some reason, Latte doesn't cause him much trouble. Taking an antihistamine seems to fix it. Good thing, 'cause he REALLY likes that cat!
Just so the grandpuppies don't get jealous, here's a picture of Samuel Adams (aka Sam, Sammy). What a mush mouth! Gotta love him.
Geez, didn't get home til after 1am. had to unpack, etc. and slept in a bit this morning. We've been taking care of odds and ends today. So habby to have my Stubby home!
so Lynn....my spider Charlotte who is the eater of stinkbugs and of course I know you hate spiders. But I have to ask....
Charlotte ate another SPIDER last night! It was a big one I saw up in the wall and forgot to catch before we went to bed. This morning, he was stuck in Charlotte's web, and Charlotte was having a meal of him!
SO, do you like Charlotte, even though she IS a spider, because she ATE a spider?
OMG...when we took the dogs out last night before bed, we hear TWO Great Horned Owls talking!!! First time in several years I've heard the GHO around here! My friend Gail and her walking partner were out walking the other evening and heard, the SAW 2!! They flew right in front of them!
Funny story. I always tell my kids to watch the baby eagles for poop shoots - middle school kids get a HUGE kick out of that kind of thing! So, I had 7 kids in here waiting for change of classes and the cam was up. One of the babies did a poop shoot but it didn't clear the egg cup. Belle casually walked over and scooped up the poop and then walked to the edge of the nest, I guess to discard it. TOTALLY grossed out the kids! With this warm weather, my kids are really enjoying watching the babies! Me too!!
Also, the kids are so excited that I am going to see the nest in person and meet the ladies that I blog with! Again, me too! =)
I haven't fully investigated the Chat Site....... I don't know if it keeps remarks of they vanish when the page is full... Thankful it is there and will stay there in case our Blog blows.
Had a short nap, and have talked to my girls. Kindle ran out of juice so is charging!
Shannon's award was for the flood evacuations they did in Alexandria area! Luncheon was lousy, Chris said. Catered at a hotel. They are home and Shannon is mowing in the sprinkles.
Sandi, I've never seen an adult clean up a poop shoot before!! Cool!
Lynne, GHO's haveb been vocal here, too.
Temp is falling and it's feeling damper. Waiting for weather report to see what's in the forecast.
Feeling very antsy...can't get settled or comfortable... :( Took an Ativan to see if that will help. I probably should go lay down in bed for a little while. ARGH!
I also did a nap and now taking meds I'm not trying the new med until next week when I am finished this Z-Pak. Dinner time - going to be soup & salad at Bob's.
Someone did short shrift to the huge fish at eleven and then SHARON asks are they eating AGAIN!!! They are well fed...nest looks cleaner and is Shep in need to do more fishing?
Good day today. We are getting more snow. Speaks of another 4 inches, but I do not think we will get it.
LYNNE a woman from yoga class told me she saw robins back in Nelson and before that I thought I heard a robin, so maybe they are back....it is cold for them though I would rather think.
Cool Hoda!!! I hope you see one VERY soon...you'll REALLY feel the Spring, then!
Lynn, do you USUALLY hear the GHOs? Sure wish I'd hear a Barred Owl now, too! (I call them in the night, I've got the call down pretty good, but no response so far)
SIS I tried to comment the message is no longer there but now I can't get the publish button to show up after I type in the two words that I am not a robot I will try again
There hardly isn't any fish in the nest that I can see Either they cleaned house or ate it???? Belle back down on the chicks and I am off to watch the news since I see to be all alone again
March 21, 2012 The second egg hatched on Friday March 21, 2012. Both eaglets are moving about the nest and food seems to be plentiful. Because the eaglets were born days apart, they are of different sizes. If there is enough food, both young will thrive. If not, the larger may monopolize the food. So far, fishing has been great! Many viewers are wondering what the black spot on the male's head is. This black spot is the remains of the black head feathers juvenile eagles have. At around 4 years old, the juveniles lose the black head feathers, are replaced with white and are sexually mature. This tells us this male is somewhere around 4 years old.
The young birds have soft grayish down which will soon be replaced with black feathers at around 5-6 weeks. According to the American Bald Eagle page, it can take 24-48 hours for an eaglet to work its way out of the egg using its egg tooth. Once newly hatched, eaglets are born with wobbly legs that are too weak to hold their weight, and their eyes are partially closed, limiting vision. Their only protection is their parents.
Eagles feed their young by shredding pieces of meat from their prey with their beaks. The parents gently coax the chicks to take a morsel of meat from their beaks. As you can see from the webcam, the parents will offer food again and again, eating rejected morsels themselves, and then tearing off another piece for the eaglets.
The young birds grow rapidly, they add one pound to their body weight every four or five days. At about two weeks, it is possible for them to hold their heads up for feeding. By three weeks they are 1 foot high and their feet and beaks are very nearly adult size.
Home from school! Hi all - haven't been too many comments since the last time I checked - easy catching up! Did one of the eagles arrive with a branch with green leaves on it or is something "growing" in the nest?
Thanks, Judy! As others have said, I think what we really need in the nest is - MORE FISH! The cupboard is lookin pretty bare, unless there are fish hidden that I can't see.
Lynn, I knew that other birds would carry the babies' poop out of the nest or nestbox. It just never occurred to me that eagles would do the same, and I had never seen it happen before.
Another KIndle message that ain't here..........but it's on my kindle! Paula, tell Steve that Fri. was NOT the 21st, please. That's today! It was the 16th for hatch #2.
Lynn, Every time you have posted something twice from your Kindle and said that it didn't show up on the blog the first time, both of your posts have shown up in my email inbox. Isn't it funny that the posts would go thru to email but not show up on the blog? That says your messages are being sent (b/c I'm getting them) but they're not being received by blogger. Very strange!
DAMN.......I'm mad......Carolyn is not off for ANY of our gathering activities. HATE for her to miss out, and now no way for me to get there. :( Crying here now. Life sucks.
You will not miss out. Annemarie and I will pick you up Lynn. No way are you missing the gathering. I'm very sorry that Carolyn is not going to be able to attend. I would love to meet her.
Lynn, sorry to hear that Jewels will not be able to come in April - I would love to meet her! But you had better be there - just stand out at the end of your driveway with your thumb out and half a dozen folks from this blog will be by to pick you up!
Just got off the phone from a 1-1/2hr conversation with June in NC They fired their boss also she wanted me to know he is also from Fl worked down here till he got transferred up there
Made it through Jeopardy okay, and snoozed through first half of Survivor. Feeling much better, thankfully. Gonna have more PB---can't hurt!!! Want to last at least through Criminal Minds!
Thank you all~~~you're the bestest. Carolyn does have access to a wheelchair, so that will make it easier on me, too. No, no special requests. They are all being denied....too short handed. She did say she would try to switch with someone....but that is always a tentative proposition!
Judy, the "poop event" happened between 2:05 and 2:15 this afternoon. I'm very sure about the time. One of the eaglets was facing maybe 5 and shot a little stream of poop toward Belle who was standing on the rails around 10. I said, "Poop shoot!" and the kids all said "EWWW!!" You could see a little "line" of poop on the fluff. Belle immediately walked over to the poop in the egg cup, scooped it up with her beak, and walked back to her spot on the rail (I couldn't see her head so I don't know exactly what she did with it. I assume she spit it out.) Again, the kids all screamed, "EWWW! She just picked up that poop - nasty!!!"
And that is WAY more information than I ever intended to give out about eagle poop!! =D
Another avalanche today and two people lost their lives in the Mountains of Nelson...Bonnington Ridge this time...we are expected to get more snow tonight...It is also spring break in Alberta and BC...
Lynn...I see that you have a lot of offers to get to the Nest Visit Activities! Sure some arrangements can be made !! Is Christie interested in going??
another sad note about that new schedule...Jewels and I are not on the same schedule again for another two monthhs like I said, we miss out on a lot with a 24/7 operation...
Congratulations to Shannon, Lynn..sorry the chow was not up to snuff !
Just checking to see if Kay has been here...no luck so far!
Sandi...so funny about the kids and the Poop Shoot! Not really as gross as it seems if they are like songbirds-the "poop" is actually encased in a sack when they are very young, making for clean and easy good riddance. I suspect it's the same for baby eaglets, too, if she was able to just pick up the wad and drop it over.
OK just tried to find that info. All I can find is that eaglets do NOT have poop sacks, but in the same article is mentions them wandering to the edge to defacate over the side. Well, bobbles can't do that! So I think that is wrong.
Also, flugg is added to cover old, dead food and the inevitable maggots that come from flies. Eagles NOT cleaning the nests is why they often build another to use...so the first one can air out for a couple of years.
went out to Yankauer Preserve yesterday evening... found the babiest of Wildflowers! and tons of them: Spring Beauty, Dutchman's Breeches, CutLeaf Toothwort, and last but not least: Bloodroot ! took pictures but haven't posted them on my blogspot yet
JudyE, I will look at the timeline on the FB page to see how it can be adjusted...bear with me...I wasn't sure if it would look different just to me since I am an admin or if it would look that way to everyone...Please don' stop posting pictures!
I bet I saw....thousands of Bloodroot at Yankauer....I was walking my old lady steps, and up comes a lady hiker going at a fast pace with a nice walking stick...
pictures are up on my Wildflowers in West Virginia link
and I removed the double word verification thingy I think....
JudyE, I changed the default on the FB page to "posts by others"....can you click on the top and see "posts by Shepherdstown Eagle Cam Fans"? It can only be one way or the other. Most pages default to posts by the page and then you click posts by others at the top to see other posts.
Sleeping later in the morning sure makes it easier to stay up later at night - didn't fall asleep during Criminal Minds - boy, what a disturbing episode! Near the end of it, a National weather Service advisory scrolled across the bottom of the screen - dense fog advisory for Sussex Co., DE til 9am tomorrow morning! So I'm headed to bed hoping for a hat trick on the 2-hour school delay! Goodnight eagle friends!
Hello my strangers... I am putting in a switch for saturday evening, with a co worker that has asked me for a switch next week. So I think she may be able to do it as long as its not the weekend she is planning for a multicourse run she was doing. I will know Friday if she can do it. Then we will see if it will be approved.
I agree with Margy... we have to deal with the downs of this position, the ups is that it is a stable job that pays my bills. Sometimes I could just cry... like being called in yesterday when I had barely enough time doing anything for us but run for medicine and return meds, but thems the break!
I had a theory that if I worked the shift I am on now, it would have been a continuous thing. But instead I now work two weekends back to back which gave me the open house weekend to work. :( This shift that I currnetly work does work better for me since the kids are home with Charlie at night, then I am home with him during the day.
Haha Margy, I told Charlie today, somedays I wish my body would just shut down. He did not like that comment very well at all. I told him, I am just tired!! Plain tired! But I am glad that I and we are healthy!
Yea, pros and cons, Carolyn..... and that happens sometimes for shift change at the two-month mark, the continuous thing...glad that night shift works out better for you and the family
speaking of marks, we are headed to the first SPLIT
that difficult one, that makes us Hurdle Jumpers !!
HODA so sorry about the loss of life today so sad for the families left behind
PAULA thanks I see it now thanks for the explanation I will contiune to post pictures
LYNNE2 cool eagle facts
MARGY Thanks for choose a easy way to post comments like I did I know I am not a robot and you do too LOL just so much easier Old eye have a hard time making out those stupid words and now they have two to make it double harder LOL Loved the picture of that stump really neat
OK Now we need to work on getting MARGY switched for that day too so she can go Pulling for you JEWELS that it works out for your to go with your MOM
I love the way BELLEs head GLO's in the dark soooo coool I
Thanks JudyE....there were some amazing things at the place I went to yesterday....like that Stump..and the path goes straight to the Potomac...but high up over the embankment....I look for Eagles of course! but did not see any

Any advice?
Yes, who is "Unknown?"
I think my typing needs a little improvement
Hi, Margy,
I've been thinking of Lynn today, too. Prayers are non-stop! <3
I don't think I tried to post labels with a group picture, Andy. I think I might just put it in as a comment.
Your typing is OK with me, Margy! I didn't notice the typos--just read right through them. How are your fingers doing, btw?
Headed off to yoga and errands.
See you all later...
Enjoy.
LYNN Friday is on the calendar ♥
Thanks, Shirley, I'll try that.
Hi, Hoda!
Have a great yoga class! Catch you later...
I see a huge fish at 11:00. Now, if Shep would just feed some of it to the little ones. He still seems a bit hesitant.
He is trying. I think he is looking for Mama Belle.
Shep is feeding chick
I hope the 1st born will let the 2nd one get some food from Shep.
Thanks for the new fresh thread Steve
Unknown you are stuttering and it
sometimes takes us a while to hear the
call over and then to join everyone.
You just beat us all to this thread.
The trick to feeding 2 chicks: Over feed the aggressive one and then feed the little one eat all he wants.
Jo aren't their eyes just so cute?
Little one is getting some bites.
Shep keeps dropping the bits of food. The little ones don't know to pick it up quite yet.
Some times I don't have typos but I do have incorrect grammar! Hope in reading it that it doesn't give you chills!
Now we're cooking! I placed my cursor
over Big Guy and Shep could see him so
he fed Little Guy! loL
out of the egg cup, ummm ..
at least he is feeding them, but he better scoot them back into it
Shep sure has come a long way. He's figured out that the bobbleheads need SMALL bites. He's feeding the little one now. Awwww, those two are SOOO cute!!! Think the nest will soon need higher crib rails, though. The bigger eaglet is in crawl mode right now!
Gosh, looks like the bigger eaglet wants to try to feed himself!!!
He really got fed a lot. lol
Come on, Shep, tuck that baby in!
Hi, WV Dana,
How's your day going?
Hi everyone. I am so loving watching Shep with these babies! :)
2 chicks poking out now
Sure does look like those little ones are ready for a nap.
One is pretty much all the way out and the other one is sticking its head out.
Reminds me of raising twins.
Hi Andy ( :
I'm tugging along.
Love watching Shep feed the chicks.
Takes ones mind off of physical things and makes you SMILE ( :
Thanks for asking HUGS
Hi, Maria,
Good to see you again! Yes, it sure is fun to watch him. He's catching on pretty quickly to fatherhood!
One of these days we are going to see Siku (polar bear cub) up on that big tree limb.
He is HAVING FUN PLAYING
Shirley, it's gonna get interesting when both of them are ambulatory, and go in two different directions!
Thanks for the blog advice! I put a comment there explaining who's who in my family pictures.
Not to worry--babies won't get too much exposure---there is no sun in the panhandle yet today.
Unknown? Isn't that the same as anonymous? Thought blog wouldn't take those kind of entries??
We are all thinking of LynnE and her stubby--but we sure aren;t going to interrupt them! Ahem!!!
Funny story about the cat, Andy!!
Thank goodness you found everything.
Andy, beautiful pictures. That looks like a really nice place for a family photo.
Looks like one of the bobbleheads is trying to escape in front of Shep.
Checking in from school to see how our eagles are doing.
Andy, very cute story about Latte and your glucose monitor! I sure wish we could have a cat, but 66 2/3% of the people currently living in the house are allergic to them. I'm the 33 1/3% who isn't.
This person is signed in as "unknown," Lynn. Guess we will see what develops.
Thanks, Lori!
Shep is looking down at the eaglet in front of his chest like how did YOU get there?
Shep was chirping.
Just saw the Pileated Woodpecker, came in for the camera and lost him. Going out to look again!
I lied! Here comes the sun!!!!!
Belle just "dropped in" for a visit!

Isn't it funny that the posts would go thru to email but not show up on the blog? That says your messages are being sent (b/c I'm getting them) but they're not being received by blogger. Very strange!
Lynne2, GHO's always here year round, but noisier during mating season!
Screech owls, too.
Sandi, that IS strange. Hmmmm......perplexing, huh?
Going to try sofa and Liesl. Wish me luck for some comfort!
Hope I don't sleep through Jeopardy!
DAMN.......I'm mad......Carolyn is not off for ANY of our gathering activities. HATE for her to miss out, and now no way for me to get there. :( Crying here now. Life sucks.
Our gathering activities next month? Oh yes ma'am, you will get there!!!!!!
I will come and get you!!!
Shep just flew in to baby sit!
Loving the house plant!! ☺ ♥ ☺ ♥ ☺
...
Just an FYI for those coming to Shepherdstown next month. The Comfort Inn does in fact have rooms available. I just made reservations.
Both in the nest. Love it!
WOW guess he got relieved early! And off goes the light :(
JUDYE I see eight fish or half fish in the nest...
SHARON and DANAMO great responses....good on you!
Sharon, I thought you were planning to rent a cottage or something like that?? No?
Going up to the tub, but taking my phone with me so I can try to keep up with you all! or is that y'all?
Just got off the phone from a
1-1/2hr conversation with June in NC They fired their boss also she wanted me to know he is also from Fl worked down here till he got transferred up there
DID ANYONE GET A VIDEO OF THE POOP REMOVAL???????
LYNN can't Carolyn request for the day off?????? this far in advance!!
Who many people will be there any total yet??????
JUDYE I have not seen a video of the poop removal today.
I just noticed that when I put pictures on the facebook Shepherdstown fanpage that they disappear ;^(
the new timeline sort of hides them so I won't be putting any more on since they don't show why bother ;^(
Gonna head to the TV
Darn it
Hoda I was hoping one of the others might have gotten it
Need to check out what time that was tooo!!!
Time to get re-ensconced with Liesl for CM. BB after that.
DMO---that would be all y'all!!!
Wonder where Judie is?? And Kay?
Good Evening Eagle Pals...
Thinking of Lynn ♥
We are very short-handed at work....pretty much on no-leave except for emergencies...
switch for Carolyn might be possible...and I hope she can.
We have to miss out on a lot of things :(
But it's a secure job for those that can tough it out
xoxo ♥
Kay was to have that shot earlier today, she might be in the horizontal...
Thoughts across the miles for comfort to Kay
Kay's cortisone shot is tomorrow at 3:15. I recall b/c she was on the blog when I got on this AM.
Lynn, glad you've felt well enough to get on the blog today!
Back to Criminal Minds!
Lynn...I see that you have a lot of offers to get to the Nest Visit Activities! Sure some arrangements can be made !!
Is Christie interested in going??
another sad note about that new schedule...Jewels and I are not on the same schedule again for another two monthhs
like I said, we miss out on a lot with a 24/7 operation...
I'm working dayshift on April 21
so I cannot offer much to help out on a switch either :(
So I see No "New Members" listed on our E-M page...so maybe Unknown just changed his or her identity and has been amongst us for awhile.
Beats me !
Jo
if you make grammar errors, I do not notice them! I l♥ve your posts....uplifting, short and sweet, to the point, and interesting !
Betting that Lolly, Jack, Laurel and the boys are having themselves a good old time tonight...
Sleepovers, Rock !
Too funny!! More than 12 hours later, T-Bird's post are rattling my funny bones, wish I had been on this morning with her....
Hi Lynne ! and Hello to Steve....hope he and you are all settled back into each other now..☺♥☺♥
Bet the household critters are happy also !
went out to Yankauer Preserve yesterday evening...
found the babiest of Wildflowers!
and tons of them: Spring Beauty, Dutchman's Breeches, CutLeaf Toothwort, and last but not least:
Bloodroot !
took pictures but haven't posted them on my blogspot yet
was able to alert a co-worker on Tuesday to an upcoming baby poop shoot...he howled when it happened!
Magpie Predicting baby poop shoots is a rare and acquired skill. Good for you :-)
I have never seen an eagle remove poop from the nest before either...
JudyE, I will look at the timeline on the FB page to see how it can be adjusted...bear with me...I wasn't sure if it would look different just to me since I am an admin or if it would look that way to everyone...Please don' stop posting pictures!
Lynn, you are correct...I'll send an email to Steve...I didn't have time to read the post, just saw it, copied and pasted!
Thanks Glo ☺
I just got lucky I guess....
I noticed that too Paula, but see that Lynn caught it right away...
interesting narrative.. thanks for bringing in over here.... !
I bet I saw....thousands of Bloodroot at Yankauer....I was walking my old lady steps, and up comes a lady hiker going at a fast pace with a nice walking stick...
pictures are up on my Wildflowers in West Virginia link
and I removed the double word verification thingy I think....
Okay this is strange, just got two emails to my Comcast program from this morning ? Wonky !!
Goodnight eagle friends!
thousand legger scurrying across the wall in the kitchen....
what a surprise, glad he was HIGH up on that wall
Margy thank you so much for not making me do a double 'not a robot' set of words.
I enjoyed Criminal Minds
Hello my strangers... I am putting in a switch for saturday evening, with a co worker that has asked me for a switch next week. So I think she may be able to do it as long as its not the weekend she is planning for a multicourse run she was doing. I will know Friday if she can do it. Then we will see if it will be approved.
Hoda Tell me what you see in the dark
at our nest??
Jewels - if you can't get Saturday
Go for Friday evening for dinner at
the Rumsey Tavern
I agree with Margy... we have to deal with the downs of this position, the ups is that it is a stable job that pays my bills. Sometimes I could just cry... like being called in yesterday when I had barely enough time doing anything for us but run for medicine and return meds, but thems the break!
JO I see Belle is awakd facing eight and head is up, not tucked in. All seems quiet and she is still. Just moved her head from six to eight too..
sorry my delete, posted my comment twice.
Yes, Go for that Switch, Carolyn and set up Plan B....
and maybe plans C and D !!
You are Welcome, J☺
xo
She now tilted her head forward nothing is bothering her at all...Not asleep however.
If only everyone could be as healthy as horses as we are, Jewels ☺
I had a theory that if I worked the shift I am on now, it would have been a continuous thing. But instead I now work two weekends back to back which gave me the open house weekend to work. :(
This shift that I currnetly work does work better for me since the kids are home with Charlie at night, then I am home with him during the day.
I love the way BELLEs head GLO's in the dark soooo coool I
MARGY we are at 189 so a few more posts before the split...
Glad you and Carolyn are healthy.
glad that Charlie did NOT like that comment, Jewels...
but I bet understands the tired, just plain tired sentiment
(( Hugs ♥ ))
I be quiet now.....
let some more folks jibber-jabber
Hoda: Am very sorry about the avalanche and additional loss of lives up your way....
I am watch AI being on the DVR Good singers tonight
I stand corrected it told me 198...I am sure I DID not reverse numbers!!! LOL!!!
Now Hoda you are cornfusing me !
☺
doesn't take much....
WE'll be jumping soon either way
Thanks JudyE....there were some amazing things at the place I went to yesterday....like that Stump..and the path goes straight to the Potomac...but high up over the embankment....I look for Eagles of course! but did not see any
MARGY If you are working days on Sat 21st you will be off in time for dinner
You really don't need a change - do you?
BELLE is looking back and forth I grabbed a couple of pic of the glo in the head
Jo
looks like I could make both dinners, but not the Nest Day Visits....
SPLIT ?? Now or next one ?
or Already !
if I could do a switch with Carolyn for at least part of it, I would, but don't think that fits the plan too well, shift coverage wise :(
