I do get up early on school days, but I do not usually look out the windows then. I am busy getting ready to go to work . . . but that is only for three more days! Unless I end up having to go back to finish something, heaven forbid!
time to vacation now, Shirley, been a long year..going to get coffee...can't stand that buzz on the cam...that is why I don't put it up...but the buzz always goes away in the afternoon
She went straight up at 7:46. She was flapping, but not with he usual gusto and she just went up - I'll bet she's as surprised as I was!! There was no shadow over the nest.
I have found that I can decrease the buzz by lowering the "balance" toggle on my volume control. It does not go away completely, but it is less of a problem.
There was a reason for the quietness here. The pic was frozen. Now I hear a bird singing. I was able to eliminate the buzz with the "balance" toggle I was telling you about.
must have been quite a site at Hornby nest yesterday:).....
Hornby Eagles Fourteen - counted 'em - 14 fish delivered to the nest today. One of the lowest tides of the year, and both Mom and Dad had good luck fishing (plus, Dad stole at least one fish from the crows).
GOOD MORNING... Once again, I don't have very much time to chat:( Have to get Dustin up and awake and ready for church. That whole process takes awhile:)
I have posted two videos of our Nest Visit yesterday...first one is Capt. Gene's photos and the second one is mine. WHAT A SPECIAL DAY THAT WAS!
No buzz here this am until right now! Didn't see her come back, Paula---but when I saw her back she was watching Belle and whatever she was nibbling on.
have checked all the pictures and video links I can find so far, really great stuff! With the faces I know, and Jo's Attendance Roster, I think I can figure out the new faces too! Love those children, and those straw hats, and I think Dustin is the tallest one of the bunch !
Thanks for all that, and all the comments and posts about the visit... could just feel like I was there!
I guess Palmer, Belle & Liberty might the only ones that know if branching or fledging, one thing for certain, that nest was empty for awhile, how exciting Maybe Palmer will feel like a kid on a rollercoaster, get that first ride in, and you want to keep doing it...
oh PS large bear yesterday up on Eagle School Road near the school and housing complexes, chased a man, and he had to jump into some stranger's truck to "escape." bear kept running up Rt 11N and across the highway several times then slipped out of sight. Maybe the one Sunny was referring to xo so long
Wanda thank you so very much for posting those video's. Yes I cried again. They are just so moving Great pick of music to go along with them
I again want to thank YOU and Gene for your hard work and kindness.
I also want to thank everyone involved in helping with the lunch. It was superb. (I hope that is a word).
I checked the older blog and did not see anything. Has anyone heard from Sharon and Bluefield gang? I went to bed last night with them on my mind and prayers.
back again.....HOLY MOLY!!!! She was out of the nest!!!! Fuz'ma so glad you saw it!!!! She sure was bouncing around a lot in the wee hours of morn when I was up. Kept thinking she might go then.
Thought she might go just a few minutes ago but she's standing looking over it now. I wonder if the humidity making the air so thick is keeping her put for now.
Dana, go to FB to Shar or Tbird walls....they had a little trouble, and then got back to find part of a tree down in the drive, just missing T's car.
today is the Feast day of the guy we pray to when we have lost something...good ole St Anthony:)........
Saint Anthony of Padua Doctor of the Church, 1195 to 1231. Feast Day: June 13 Patron of: Poor, also against shipwrecks, starvation and of American Indians, animals, boatmen, elderly people, fishermen, harvests, lost articles, mail, Portugal, travellers, travel hostesses, and watermen Symbol: book, bread, Infant Jesus, lily
Oh-oh.....counter is running but there is NO movement on cam.....anyone else seeing any? Wonder if there could have been a lightening strike or power surge that caused the blue blips I saw??
Good Morning Everyone Thanks for the info about St Anthony.. He has been so helpful in the past! So this is the 13th - Is it good luck day for Palmer? I wish she would kick that turtle shell out! It was very good to see Norma yesterday She is still having computer problems I am anxious to see those pics and videos and I need to go back on the earlier thread. BBILW
Good morning! Sounds like excitement on here this morning. Palmer possibly branched. Since I have been watching he seems to be content in the nest. I remember watching a couple days ago and Palmer went straight up and completely out of sight for a few seconds.
Well, I am just getting on to say good morning. Time to get ready for church. Will be back this afternoon. Will Palmer be in the nest or not??????
One of the TH twins is disappearing a lot. The people don't think she has flown out but just out of the view of the cam.
She may be branching, or in her case, rocking. The younger has followed the older around since they hatched but the younger is not following out of the sight of the cam. Smart choice.
Since the elder is a week or so younger than Palmer, I don't think she will precede Palmer in her flight.
Larry has gotten permission from DNR to go ahead and remove the 2nd loon egg from the nest. He's planning on either tomorrow night or Tues. night at 11PM; viewers will be able to watch. It is the best time, he thinks, to do it so as not to alienate the loons. Guess the cam will go down after that. He just wants them to be able to resume normal loon activity without being bound to the nest for nothing. He'll announce which evening later.
Good morning. Well whatever Palmer is certainly quiet and taking a little break form the morning activities ;-). Off to church. Enjoy your day. Will be checking photos and videos this afternoon.
had to shut down cam....caused all kind of problems....froze up computer...had to manually shut it down, then when it came back on it had knocked out my microsoft security essential:(
Loch of Lowes one chick up and walking (of course funny walk) around. Other chick is laying there resting. Well it just decided to start moving some, not much though. Isla and Y7.
They have moved the camera around at Loch of Lowes. Finding something in the water but can't till what. They have spotted the other parent Osprey in a tree near the water.
Lily the Black Bear: Hope was not at the feeding station when I arrived at 7am. I scanned the surrounding forest and spied her high in a red pine. She slowly roused, stretched, and descended. After feeding she climbed a maple growing near the feeding station red pine. From high in the maple she caught a branch from the red pine and climbed higher still. -- SM
Morning Everyone!!!Having a heck of a time getting to Post box & have to sign in every time. If I hit Sunday on the new tan Home page I get all the comments, but not the white page w/box!!???Finally saw a little line under bottom comment about Post.
I'm in shock!! Palmer lifted off???? She waited 'til our trip!Bless her!Now we need moving video !☺ Got other camera to dwnld.Hope I get finished w/pics today!
Thank you Mema Jo for info on Hope. I just can't get over the information Dr.Rogers has been able to collect. That will help bears and cubs at the Rescue Centers. To be able to climb trees younger than they have been doing and to forage on their own.
Thx, Paula. Seems that's what probably happened. Like I said, we need roving camera!! Especially since whe're not there!! Just noticed, she has lovely speckled pantaloons! How come I could not find any black tape on a tree trunk yesterday??
Lynn, he fell asleep, so I was able to turn it down!! Then I konked out until 11PM, got up, had 1/2 a sandwich, watched TV, dwnlded one camera, went to bed at 3AM, up at 10AM!!! I'm gonna go bonkers w/pics~~besides yesterday, have a lot from work~~osprey cam, Mom & fawn, foxy, etc.
I meant to mention a cute occurrence at nest. After we moved to the side of the road, just in front of the nest, could hear those familiar squeals from behind us!There was a big tree there, & I thought there must be another eagle somewhere! It was a mockingbird!!!He's learned all the local sounds!I think it was Lynne2 that discovered that.
Not that I ever paid any attention to it, except when it was mentioned that the posters were calling Palmer something else and Paula told them the name history, but wonder what happened to blog posts on Outdoor Channel?? I was going to see if any comments were made about the horn honking yesterday....but it's not there anymore.
Picture People Would some of you post some of your pics from the Nest Visit 2010 in the Momsters' Album. I know who has the personal blog sites with the pics but also it would be nice to have on our E_M site for a "one stop deal". Thanks.
Lynn it has not been there for some time, I emailed them, they told me if I had a comment to go to FB ODC and see if anyone was chatting there....no one was....I enjoyed reading it, but I'm sure not everyone liked some of the comments, even though they were honest...so it disappeared. JMHO
I need to grab 1/2 sandwich & oh yes! a small piece of a delicious cake! Peanut butter give you protein and chocolate gives you that get up & go! Then get dress to go see the tap dancer.
I am going to be surprised to see Palmer in the nest when I get home late this afternoon.
Thanks for info. Not sure why it would have interfered.....but, at least for me, cam is SO much better since it stopped stopping!!! A true pleasure to watch now between that and verizon! Before it was a real pain so jsut stuck with the still cam.
Thought for a minute there that Palmer was going to take a good portion of the nest with her. Just as well she did not fly away with all of that baggage.
Shirley - Paula - The Friday eve dinner should be at the Clarion's Rumsey and that would be a good place as it was last year to stay. The Sat Dinner is a little bit up in the air but would be in the Shepherstown city limits! We should have a larger crowd then usual this year.
Changing the subject--one of the single young men on our faculty had to fix his gown for graduation with staples. It was way too long. He stapled it while wearing it, ending up with a funny-looking mess. I told a pretty easy fix with a needle and thread, but he said he didn't know how.
I actually do have a needle and thread in my desk drawer and would have been happy to help him, but it was a bit late by the time I knew about the problem. I do have to think that a person smart enough to teach advanced placement English could figure out how to operate a needle and thread. Oh well, the graduation went on regardless.
No, Shirley, no kick-offs here. Almost time for me to head out for my animal advocacy meeting. Be back later this afternoon. It is near the DQ, so guess where I'm going afterwards??!!
my father was a brilliant man, Shirley but not much of a handyman, if he could not fix something with staples and/or tape, someone else would have to take care of it ☺ I have used wide tape in an emergency for a hem, not very brilliant either just passing through, had to get up and had to check the nest ! daggone all those sticks
MITS-I can't remember which eagle it was ,but it fledged on my birthday June 5-2 years ago. (I think) I remember Beverly, Sharon and I were watching it together in Bedford.
I had a student once who refused my offer of white thread and a needle to fix a hem in a black skirt. She chose staples. She had to get ready for an ROTC inspection, and thought I was silly for suggesting white thread. I have fixed plenty of dark things with white thread. You just take very tiny stitches. It is a temporary fix that I am sure you all know about.
Staples are much harder to hide and are quite likely to tear stockings, but what do I know?
At least the male teacher was polite. The kid was cheeky.
MITS-I'm pretty sure eagle-eye will remember about Spunky. I can't remember which one it was, I think two years ago, that fledged on my birthday June 5th. I do remember that Beverly, Sharon and I were watching it in Bedford. I was so excited. : ) It so nice to be lucky enough to see it when it happens.
I have been watching Palmer since I got home from church and breafasst, I was sure she/he would fall out of the nest. I was hoping you all got to see her yesterday!
You didn't make it either Shirley. I am going to go back for another year but am thinking now of taking Friday and Saturday off in October and get my husband to drive me up for Open House. It all depends on what Josh is up to with the Army.
Shirle, I am an assistant in Kindergarten; finishing my 26th year. Only got 2 years of college in for teaching b efore I left to get married. I never got back, but love being an assistant except for the pay. I need the summers off also to recharge.
Yeah, I think tape would have worked better, Paula. I remember that our dept. chair had sent out a message to all of us and it it she had asked this guy if he had gotten a better-fitting gown. I didn't know he hadn't, or I would have gotten hold of the gown and sewed up the hem. I think we are all so busy that it easy to forget something.
Hi Candy! Good to see you on here. If you go to Glo's blog "Glo's Glimpses", you can see a video she made yesterday. You can hear the EE horn honk and the momsters cheer. And, see Palmer!☺
Was finally able to get the live cam but lost it again a few minutes ago. Did see Palmer flapping and doing some trampoline jumps. It was nice to see her.
Have checked other cams. Hornby wide view cam is operating again -- I like the closeup better. And two of the five kestrels have fledged with a third one sitting at the house opening thinking about it.
Well, back to chores. Will try to catch up on blog comments later. Hoping everyone is having a wonderful day.

glad everyone had a good time yesterday....:)
Thanks Mits and Steve.
Palmer seems a little hesitant about taking off again. But it won't be long before she does.
your welcome, Shirley;), I think you are right, she may have been branching, if she went straight up from the nest...
but 12 weeks is a normal time to go, she still looks so young
I'm wondering if I will get to see little birdies fledge from my birdhouse.
think you have to get up very early to see them do that, Shirley
I do get up early on school days, but I do not usually look out the windows then. I am busy getting ready to go to work . . . but that is only for three more days! Unless I end up having to go back to finish something, heaven forbid!

Comment on the previous thread.
She went straight up at 7:46. She was flapping, but not with he usual gusto and she just went up - I'll bet she's as surprised as I was!! There was no shadow over the nest.
I wonder if she made it to the branch above?
What did she look like when she returned?
I have found that I can decrease the buzz by lowering the "balance" toggle on my volume control. It does not go away completely, but it is less of a problem.
No buzzing this morning, very quiet on the cam
That comment was from FuzzleMA
Good Morning on this new thread. Thank you Steve.
Steve I am wondering was Palmer branching or really fledged.
Remember how many times we thought Spunky fledged only to fine he was branching. A straight up would be to a branch.
Keep eyes peeled for a taking off from the launch pad area. Mostly right side but have had one fledge off to left side.
Did you get any storms, Helen?
no Paula, no storms here, just sun and breezy:)
yes I do that toggle thing too, buzz is not there right now
never mind buzz came back:(
Very quiet here, too, Paula. So quiet that I was wondering if the microphone is working.
My volume was down a tad, just a slight buzz this morning.
There was a reason for the quietness here. The pic was frozen. Now I hear a bird singing. I was able to eliminate the buzz with the "balance" toggle I was telling you about.
I am sorry. It is the "wave" toggle. They all have a balance toggle.
:) I knew what you meant Shirley

today is the Feast day of the guy we pray to when we have lost something...good ole St Anthony:)........
Saint Anthony of Padua
Doctor of the Church, 1195 to 1231.
Feast Day: June 13
Patron of: Poor, also against shipwrecks, starvation and of American Indians, animals, boatmen, elderly people, fishermen, harvests, lost articles, mail, Portugal, travellers, travel hostesses, and watermen
Symbol: book, bread, Infant Jesus, lily
so if Palmer gets lost on her 1st flight, we know she will be found.;)
Sharon posted on the blog last night too.
there are 3 chicks at FINNEY'S nest now:), congrats to Nemo and Kemo
Hey, Mits, cool info about St. Anthony. He's a busy saint!
yes, Lynn he is a multi-tasker.
Thanks Mits for posting that.
So Pam you are FuzzleMa. Neat name ( :
Welcome to this wonderful BLOG.
Darn that fb. I checked back I can't find Sharon's comment for last night on the blog.
I don't go into fb all the time.
When hands are hurting too much. I am here so I can keep up.
Thanks Lynn2 and Mits for info on Sharon, Mattie, Justin and Thelma.
Sorry for the problems they ran into but so very glad they are all ok.
Cam is having some glitches......hope it's not going kaput!
Hello everyone.
So excited about Palmer it was hard to log in. Thank you Fuzzle for the report.
The video from yesterday was perfect...It sort of helps with my shyness, seeing young and old.
Loved it.
So no one really knows if she branched or actually flew away from the nest?
Margy now you know you are the "bib girl". ( :
Oh-oh.....counter is running but there is NO movement on cam.....anyone else seeing any? Wonder if there could have been a lightening strike or power surge that caused the blue blips I saw??
Dana, on other thread, someone said FuzzleMA was Irene
That turtle shell is right by Palmer
Okay....see leaves moving now by Palmers head....whew! WOuld not be a good time for cam freeze!
No, Dana.....FuzzleMa is Irene in Salem, MA.
The blue blips were happening yesterday also.
yes, blue blips yesterday....I refreshed still don't see any movement
Good Morning Everyone
Thanks for the info about St Anthony.. He has been so helpful in the past!
So this is the 13th - Is it good luck day for Palmer? I wish she would kick that turtle shell out!
It was very good to see Norma yesterday
She is still having computer problems
I am anxious to see those pics and videos and I need to go back on the earlier thread. BBILW

Well, I am just getting on to say good morning. Time to get ready for church. Will be back this afternoon. Will Palmer be in the nest or not??????

I hear birds, and can see Palmer panting
See, she just moved her head :)
Mits, we sure missed the 3 sisters yesterday!! How's life at the b....? Bet it is crowded down there now with school out, huh?
Palmer looks exhausted...and hot.
I am of the same opinion as you Lolly and I remember the posts about Palmer going just out of sight the other day.
I tried SO hard to get a capture of feeding at Fineey's this AM, but just couldn't get it to crop right. ARGH!! Don't know what I'm doing wrong.
Larry has gotten permission from DNR to go ahead and remove the 2nd loon egg from the nest. He's planning on either tomorrow night or Tues. night at 11PM; viewers will be able to watch. Good morning. Well whatever Palmer is certainly quiet and taking a little break form the morning activities ;-). Off to church. Enjoy your day. Will be checking photos and videos this afternoon.
had to shut down cam....caused all kind of problems....froze up computer...had to manually shut it down, then when it came back on it had knocked out my microsoft security essential:(
Really humid outside today! Was going to eat breakfast on the deck, but the chair cushions are still soaked!
Palmer still plotzed!
Good news from the "loon whisperer."
Are you using a newer computer at the beach, Mits?
Palmer finally up
Poopshoot
She looks so ready!
She's at the launch pad.
using my laptop, Paula, think it is around 5 yrs old, not sure, guees it is time for a new one;)
Excuse me. she's all over.
She/he is really moving around the nest flapping those wings.
Will she/he or won't Palmer do it?
I wonder if Palmer has a record breaking wing span.
going to try to open it up again....I have had problems with it since ODC took over.
Oh my at the edge
Nope, back at noon
Or facing noon, in the bowl
She keeps getting sticks stuck in her talons
Is head-bobbing a sign of indecision???? LOL!
Taking a break, she's standing at 2ish
Lynn, I think she was moving food down from her crop
A few minutes ago, that was.
Oh ok thanks for the correction": Hi FuzzleMa from Main glad to meet you. Welcome to a wonderful blog and a great group of people. ( :
I keep telling her she can go now...the suspense is killing me!
Gotcha, Mits. Didn't think you were using the ancient one, LOL
yes, desktop is from 2002
just got a service unavailable error 503 from bloggercop....don't usually have problems with blog, but today I am
I just finished watching Wanda's videos and then the photos. The day will have lasting memories...
I have a dance recital this afternoon at 2:00 for Alexis. She is so ready to Perform! She won't miss a step!
Can't take my eyes off Palmer......
Palmer is giving this fledging a lot of thought. Paula I think Palmer knows what you said is for all of us. lol
Sort of like Spunky...yes, no, maybe so, no not this time lol
Is that when the do a wave in their belly area? Moving the food from her crop?
Mema Jo even if they didn't have anymore Minnie suits. She will still do her best dancing as Micky. ( : ENJOY as I know you will.
BEagle, you got it.
Mits, I got one of those messages from the blog earlier.
LOL, humidity here just went from 84% to 90% in the last half hour or so
is she trying to tell us something with that look ...
You can leave anytime now, Palmer with our blessings!

Nature is truly a MIRACLE

Think Palmer just dumped a stick over the edge!
poop shoot off the left
Poop shoot!

Hi, Lowreeda. Who won out with the remote????
Thx, Paula. Seems that's what probably happened. Like I said, we need roving camera!! Especially since whe're not there!!
Just noticed, she has lovely speckled pantaloons!

Yes, we heard the conversaton about the mocker, LOretta. They are amazing! Wonder if they could talk like a parrot if trained?
Lynn, they posted some time ago that it was interfering with the feed, so they took it off
Picture People

hmmm asked that question about it interfering with the cam and don't remember who emailed me and they said no...that was not the reason...
I need to grab 1/2 sandwich & oh yes! a small piece of a delicious cake! Peanut butter give you protein and chocolate gives you that get up & go! Then get dress to go see the tap dancer.

She's got a stick stuck on her foot.
I thought she was going to go!
Thanks, Paula.
Palmer is trying to fly forward, being blown backwards. Carrying something in her beak and now tangled in some sticks.
Well, it said on the page it was interfering with something, don't really recall what. They don't allow tweets anymore either.
Hunting for nestovers now
yes, I remember what it said on the page...just telling you what they emailed me.
Thought for a minute there that Palmer was going to take a good portion of the nest with her. Just as well she did not fly away with all of that baggage.
She needs to pitch that stick over the edge.
Shirley - Paula - The Friday eve dinner should be at the Clarion's Rumsey and that would be a good place as it was last year to stay.
The Sat Dinner is a little bit up in the air but would be in the Shepherstown city limits! We should have a larger crowd then usual this year.
I did not try any tweets or anything like that, so I haven't kept up with that aspect of the messages.
Poor baby, she keeps getting stuck on the sticks
Hello my eagle peeps.
Okay. We thought the Clarion was a good place to stay.
Hello Thelma....... is the tree gone yet?
Palmer should fling those offending sticks out of the nest.
This is the most nerve racking time of First Flight - the getting ready for it!
I don't remember seeing Hidey having so much trouble with sticks.
We mentioned yesterday that we sighted the adult perched UNDER the nest - I wonder it that is why Palmer keeps looking down?
It is almost like the wings are ready and the feet are not.
The talons getting stuck on the sticks hasn't surprised me, Shirley so I am thinking I have seen if with others from this nest.
She's doing nervous poking at the nest.
I can't get over what Mits told us about Hornby - the amount of fish brought to that nest. You think he was planning on taking a vacation?
hello, Thelma:)
The distance cam is on Phoenix at the moment. Phoenix is standing there with all dark feathers.
Correct me if I am wrong but wasn't Spunky's fledge date
June 14?
The TH nest is empty. Every once in a while you can see wing tips coming from the left.
I told him there was a pretty easy fix.
No, Shirley, no kick-offs here.
Almost time for me to head out for my animal advocacy meeting. Be back later this afternoon. It is near the DQ, so guess where I'm going afterwards??!!
Enjoy, Lynn!
I have decided to try some sherbet since I am trying to avoid dairy. It is good, too.
my father was a brilliant man, Shirley but not much of a handyman, if he could not fix something with staples and/or tape, someone else would have to take care of it ☺
I have used wide tape in an emergency for a hem, not very brilliant either
just passing through, had to get up and had to check the nest !
daggone all those sticks
It seems as though the teacher doesn't know how to staple well either.
sounds like a great afternoon concert coming up Jo, bet there will be pictures ☺
headed sideways along the "hallway" back to the pillows
take care all..
xo
i got up because of all the coffee and water overnight and morning
THEN I had to check the nest
oh, choco milkshake for me Lynn
xo
OH and one Service 503 Unavailable message of course
MITS-I can't remember which eagle it was ,but it fledged on my birthday June 5-2 years ago. (I think) I remember Beverly, Sharon and I were watching it together in Bedford.
MITS-I'm pretty sure Eagle-Eye will remember. She is traveling back from taking the kids to meet their ride back home with Beverly and Tom.
Good afternoon from the Outer Banks ofo NC. j I have thought of you all, all Friday and yesterday at NCTC
Will says we are about to get a storm here.
I have been watching Palmer since I got home from church and breafasst, I was sure she/he would fall out of the nest. I was hoping you all got to see her yesterday!
I couldn't get the live cam up yesterday when I tried. I wanted to see fi I could hear you all at the nest. No go. jI still have to look at pics yet.
Hey Loretta. Did you make it to the nest? Lucky duck!
Don't know if Loretta made it, Candy. I had to go to graduation at my school.
Shirley
Hi Shirley, I worked Friday too. Have to go back for Monday and Tuesday and them I'm done for the summer. Hooray!!
I finish up on Wednesday. Really looking forward to summer vacation. I decided that I did not want to teach any summer classes.
Yes, Loretta and Frank made it
Never did hear if they went to Dam #4 too
Spunky fledged on Flag Day!
I like tape better than staples in a pinch!!
I would love to meet you in Shepherdstown in October, Candy. I am going to plan to take some time off then, too.
Twenty-seven years here, Candy, but not all at the same grade level.
Palmer is resting in the nest now.
Hi Candy! Good to see you on here. If you go to Glo's blog "Glo's Glimpses", you can see a video she made yesterday. You can hear the EE horn honk and the momsters cheer. And, see Palmer!☺
Good afternoon, everyone.
Been busy this a.m.
Well, I am glad to see Palmer still here, but boy is he being lazy! Come on, Palmer, up up and away!
Thats's a funny postion for Palmer to be in.
I have just finished looking at Wanda's videos; brought tears to my eyes. Wanda, wonderful pics. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Lolly. I'll take a look see at Glo's. BB
I miss seeing you all, but could probably only remember a few from my first visit. I am so glad that a good time was had by all
I know what you mean about recharging, Candy. It is nice to have a break.
It is funny, Shirley, I can't wait for school to end, but I am anxious to get back when it is timeto start again. :)
Lolly, Palmer is streatching her ligs a bit. :) She gets tired of having to stay in the same position
