I hope she's been able to catch a few fish or turtles of her own by now! Or if not, at least had a few in her talons. "You should have seen the one that got away..."
I brought over my last post. It is in reference to Carolyn's job application.
Seems like an odd thing to pick on. She likes to see things through to a conclusion. Most people do. Doesn't mean you have to.
When Kathryn applied for her first job, she listed teaching Vacation Bible School on her resume. As a young person, volunteer work is what you have to put on the list. The prospective employer thought she might be upset working in a car repair shop (at Sears) because people are upset when they come to get their cars repaired and Kathryn might have to hear some strong language.
She had to reassure them that she could handle that. She got the job, and it led to the one she has now. And, yes, she hears strong language sometimes, but I hear plenty of it in my job, too.
I would think turtles on the bank would be easiest - swimming fish a tougher skill to master, but if the fishing is good, and there are lots to choose from she may have caught some already.
Thanks for the thread before you left for your weekend and I hope, Steve, that you have an enjoyable one! KBird - thanks.....
ROFLMBO Lynne!!! I am straining my deaf ears to my speakers trying to hear what you are talking about & then it hits me that you are on this 1/2 ways there to Christmas !!!
Shirley do raccoons hum out of contentment or anger. I remember how they holler (growl) at one another when we would watch the PA Woods Cam. Really nasty fighting mad sounds.
In the corn belt, they talk about corn being knee high b y the 4th of July..imagine this corn I got is from the eastern shore...but it is delicious!!!!!
OMG, just heard report that a woman laid off from her job applied for a job at the VA state employment agency and was turned down because she had a poor credit rating.
Boy that gave me a scare on BWO platform. I could see a dark body of an adult bird and thought Vulture! I kept hitting the refresh until the adult raised it's head & I saw it was an osprey that was bending down feeding one of the chick.
I do not know where it is coming from, but now I hear "Please Help Me, I'm Falling." Either it is bleeding through the nest cam system, or they are playing it at NCTC.
I am still getting it loud and clear. What will Judie say?? But then, she can't hear anything at the nest. I expect it is one of the local stations around here.
wELL, I've crashed my browser twice, and napped way too long, since last I commented here.
Trying to watch sports on some of the new stream technology they have. Works great ... until it doesn't and you get a 'browser crashed, send an error report to Adobe flashplayer' message ....... hahahaha
It looks like the older eaglet at PH has fledged, and the male it doing some very competent practicing, so he's likely to fly soon too.
Hi, Lynn & Jim, Hubby & I just got home from the desert about 1/2 hr. ago. Have been trying to catch up on what's happening. Lynn, will definitely be saying more 911 prayers for your daughter!
Boy, the traffic was nasty coming home--a good reminder of why I decided a while back not to go up there on a Friday! We changed the battery back-up in the sprinkler control, and reset the sprinklers to start at 9:30 pm now so the water has all night to soak in, and won't evaporate from the strong sun and daytime heat. The grass wasn't brown at all, and the gardener had the lawn sprinklers running when we got there, so should be OK.
Boy, our Palmer sure is a hissy fit waiting to happen, isn't she? She certainly should be able to take good care of herself once she's out on her own!
Well, I'm gonna go put my feet up for a while--sitting in the car for that long didn't do them any good. Will be back later, after dinner. :o]
Here's a good one: Christie planted a pack of 3 yr. old Morning Glory seeds last weekend....they have germinated and are coming up!!! Who'd have thunk it?
Well, just about every job I have interviewed for or applied to has done a background and credit check. I'm quite sure that's why even Walmart didn't want me....my score is not that good. Mind you, I've been late here and there with some payments but nothing drastic. I guess they figure if you don't have a good credit score you can't be a good employee.
Steve's company is very proud to announce that everyone is getting a whoping 1.4% raise on July 5th.
He had a windsheild fall on the side of his head today at work. Has a nice lump and his glasses are all messed up. He now has a bad headache. I think it's made him insane because.....
He told me this evening that he is going to look into going to the Middle East as a civilian convoy driver. Some guy he knows is going to do it. Pay is really good. Would be gone a couple of months at a time. He's extremely discouraged that he can't find a better job and feels that we'll never get ahead. He thinks he cannot provide for his family. I am hoping he's too old for that sort of thing. It's going to be an unpleasant evening in the Soper house tonight.
So, I will see you good people in the morrow...hope everyone else has a good evening!
So sorry, Lynne, that Steve got hurt----did he get checked out? file a WC claim??? AND that he is contemplating such dangerous duty....argh! Prayingit. that you talk him out of
Just remind Steve he is too important and needed here at home and that the Civilian Convoy drivers do hit those IED's and we, especially you, don't want that! Sure the money is really good if you live to spend it! I'm not being sarcastic/sadistic with my words - it just scares me to death even thinking about it when the one tour that my grandson had where he drove those big tanks just looking for them. Stay home Steve !!!
he didn't Lynn. Told him if his head hurt in the AM we were going to the hospital.
I won't be able to talk him out of it if that's what he decides to do. Best I can hope for is that he'll realize what a STOOOOPID idea it is, or that he's too old.
My heart is just breaking for him...he works so hard for so little and he's tired, stressed, and so discouraged. I can hardly bear seeing him like this. We don't have much to live on, but we get by....much better than some people do.
Library was closed, at least the parking lot was empty, so I just returned books I had and bought a couple at the grocery store.
Gotta go put groceries in the refrigerator and fix some supper.
Lynne, I do hope Steve doesn't decide to go do something so dangerous. Rus talked about it at one time, but I think he would not do it now. Scared me for him even to mention it.
I remember hearing something about efforts being made to prevent credit ratings being used in deciding about hiring. It really puts a person in vicious circle. Credit rating is bad because you don't have a job. Can't get job because credit rating is bad.
Good evening everyone. Have read the posts from yesterday and think I'm caught up today.
Family left early this morning and though it was a nice visit, I'm glad to have my house back - well almost. Youngest has been living here since the end of December and now Mike (the oldest) is between places so he's here too. I'm thinking of moving out or at least get a motel/hotel room for the duration. Too much testosterone for me!! Men!
Max is a sweet little boy when he has slept, but he is a holy terror when he doesn't. Of course he, like us, doesn't sleep well in a strange bed.
I saw Lib bring in some food and Belle stopped by and took it. Now that it's almost gone, Palmer made a squealing plop into the nest, threatened his mother so Belle left. That's how Max was without a nap. lol
Well, this was a banner day. I can only hope the momentum holds. Darth tends to hoard, as did his mother, and today he decided to begin to sort through the bags and boxes of her things that have been sitting around for 3 1/2 years. So much was accomplished. Just hope the things he said he still needs to sort through will be taken care of sooner rather than later. Wouldn't be a problem except I have OCD tendencies that center or neatness, order, and symmetry. Creates a problem in living arrangements. I told him I would also clean out some stuff I have from my family that we never use and never will -- that way he won't feel he's the only one making a sacrifice. Reality is that at age 65 and 73, the time has come to shed the things we no longer use or need. Sorry, I needed to talk.
Lynn, didn't see about Carolyn but hope that whatever it is will be resolved in her favor. I'll try to look back.
I take it Steve is deserting us again this weekend. Hope he enjoys his time away.
Lynne, all will be okay. Sometimes we say things we don't really mean because we feel out-of-control. Steve will come around and realize you and your time together are the priority. Enjoy working at the animal rehab.
I am beginning to have some concern about all of you who are hearing voices, Dolly Parton, and other assorted voices. Could be a symptom of the onset of serious empty nest syndrome. I'm okay because I cannot hear or see anything at the nest.
Well, need to get some food. Bribed Darth to keep working today by fixing BLTs for lunch.
What I find humorous is that it's the kind of screeching noise that sound effects movie people used to use for dinosaurs - especially flying ones - and I just bet they recorded eaglets.
Oh, Lynne, just read about the hit in the head. I don't like the sound of that. Better safe than sorry. I would get him to an ER if he has a bad headache because he could have a concussion and going to sleep first might not be a good idea.
Hi Judie and Diann and kickngbird. Diann---glad that you had fun with Max, and that you have returned to some semblance of peace and quiet! Too bad that you are feeling outnumbered by men! Judie, sounds like you and Darth are heading in the right direction to de-clutter! Welcome to my OCD world....but I also hate to part with old, sentimental things! kickngbird, didn't see if Palmer took off or not.....it got dark and Boris is in active mode....argh!
Judie, I am trying to muster the energy to clean out closets here. If Darth can do it, maybe I can. My goal for the summer is to get rid of a lot of stuff.
Former Vice President Dick Cheney was admitted to the hospital Friday after experiencing discomfort, the latest health scare for the 69-year-old Republican leader who has a long history of heart disease.
Evening Everyone. Looked at the nest earlier after I saw Steve's pic, but it was MT. Looks like someone may be there spending the night at 1-3 o'clock? Went to grocery to get some soft stuff, & found spinach souffle!!!Didn't fix it yet--filled up from crab legs w/lemon,butter sauce. Had bought the steamed legs a couple days ago & picked all the leftovers last night. Yum Yum! Dwnlded some pics this afternoon--gotta work on them & gotta go to Chelsea office tomorrow for a few to finish a project. I thought ISS would be around tonight also. Gottta check
Well um, I would think seeing something through is a good quality. Know that is not always possible with a 911 but sticking with a caller and seeing the crisis through would be a very positive quality. Prayers for Carolyn getting the job.
Believe me, if Darth can sort and clean out anyone in this world can do that and more.
I think I read that Andy has earned yet another A. Congratulations, girl. You go!
Crab legs? Someone mention crab legs? Yummy and more yummy! Now there's an idea for a dinner this weekend.
Long day so turning my light off. Will leave the night light on for others coming in, going back the hallway, to the tub, to the shower, up the stairs, or back to the kitchen for a sweet late-night treat. Andy, please set our alarm for us. Thank you.
Going to check out some cams (not that many to see) and then check out FB (Family Members) THEN ............. I think I'll go back the hallway to get ready for bed.....
I think I'll say goodnight now. I'm still recuperating from the "family reunion" and now that I have the time and inclination, I'd like to continue reading my book and/or watch a movie.
A pleasant night for all and prayers for all wants/needs.
One more thing--Lynne, you mentioned lightning. The library I went to this evening was the one where Susan and I sat in the parking lot watching lightning knocking parking lot light fixtures to pieces. We probably saw three strikes and all kinds of pieces falling all around us.
And I am ready for a bath. Have a bloody big toe. Right after dinner, thought I was pulling a loose piece of skin. NOT. It was a huge hunk of really hard skin and it was apparently deep---had blood running...took a while to get it stopped, so need to soak it now and then glob some Neosporin on it. Have a good book going at tub side. BEagle, don't think any of us should even try to pull any slides like Palmer or little boys playing ball! We'd end up in body casts! good night all. Sweet dreams and prayers for all needs. See you in the morning. Take a peek at the lovely moon as you turn in!
GOOD EVENING ALL WHO ARE STILL AWAKE... This darn knee was still giving me a fit today, so I tried one of Capt. Gene's HABBY PILLS left over from his bout with gout. Stoopid me took it on an empty stomach and was nauseated and feeling psychedelic most of the day. I had started putting together our Family Friday meal. Gene had to finish EVERYTHING. Thank goodness, he knows how to cook! We had Roasted chicken with 6 extra legs, greenbeans, potatoes from the garden and apple cobbler. By the time we got to GG's, I was feeling much better:) Soooo, when a script bottle tells you "NOT ON AN EMPTY STOMACH"! Too tired to post photos. Tomorrow...
Hi, Everyone, Getting here late enough that I've missed a bunch of you.
Lynne, sure hope that Steve feels better in the morning! Sounds like he got quite a knock! Hope he decides against being a convoy driver, too. I'm more than certain that the reason it pays so well is that it's VERY dangerous! I will pray about the situation too. That's great that Steve is getting a raise! Hubby hasn't had an increase in 3 years, I think. Hope you enjoy your time at the animal rehab tomorrow! Sounds like a lot of fun!
Lynn, sure hope your poor toe feels much better tomorrow! Ow! Still praying for your daughter's situation.
Wanda, sorry your tummy wasn't feeling so well for a while, but glad the dinner helped. Prayers for your knee! Glad you're feeling better now.
Judie, hope the housecleaning momentum is catching! I need to clean closets badly. Sounds like you and Darth made a lot of progress! Well done! Thanks for the congratulations--hope the momentum holds for me, too.
Getting late here, so guess I need to go veg in TV Land a bit, then call it a day. It's been a pretty busy one. I'm tired enough that I almost don't feel tired! Go figure. Leaving the night light on so late-night snackers don't whack their shins on the furniture. The porch light is on for those coming in late. The eye scanner security is enabled. Prayers said for everyone. Sleep tight, and I'll talk to you tomorrow. God bless, and goodnight! Love you guys! :o]
Oh--just HAD to check on LOL--Isla is up on her branch, doing a really thorough job of preening. She is looking beautiful! The 2 chicks are laying flat in the nest, resting. You'd never guess the drama that went on last weekend! Thank God for a huge miracle!
Osprey Diary 26th July June 26th, 2010 by Osprey Team What a difference a week makes- lets all hope we don’t have a repeat of last weekends awful circumstances! We are all overjoyed at our female ospreys recovery but still concerned and monitoring her weakened state- she still has a lot of weight and ground to make up. We are cautiously optimistic though, and of course relived beyond measure that the chicks have not suffered through this due to dads dillegence.
PLEASE NOTE: The SWT facebook page is in addition to this blog and the latest information will still be here every day. Personally I don’t know how it works but Fiona assures me she has it under control! It has been added due to demand from the public who preffer this medium. Which leads me to another point- as I’m sure you are aware we have been getting up to 700 comments a day on this blog, all of which have to be moderated ( checked and posted by staff in case they are spam or offensive). This new medium has been a steep learning curve for us all and we have been surprised by its success. We do not have a dedicated member of staff to look after this- the rest of our very small team fit in in around all their other duties such as running the reserve, talking to visitors etc.
Particularly at night, when the office is unattended, you may find a delay in your comments appearing. We are hastily trying to work out better ways of dealing with this- perhaps having a team of volunteer moderators? We will keep you informed, and if you have suggestions, please let us know.
We would also like to encourage you more experienced watchers and bloggers to help answer some questions that recurr – feel free to add your own observations and help more recent bloggers with osprey basics.
Lastly another BIG THANKYOU to you all for your moral support during this very difficult week- your thoughts and wishes have helped the staff and volunteers enormously, and I suspect, somehow, our osprey too. Emma Rawling Perthshire Ranger
P.S. A special sorry for the fact that someone ( an very overtired member of staff) forgot to put the camera over to night mode last night.
And up in the tree she goes....screaming all the way ....and back into nest.
Thanks, MIts for LOL update---saw the first part, but not the part about FB----went to their site, but it's a Like, not a Join....so wonder if posts will come through.
Wanda---sorry you had a rough afternoon. Right---there is a lesson in there! A word of advice---also never eat apples on an empty stomach! At least for me, it's the same result as with habby pills!
Up and out and back again. She doesn't know what she wants to do.

Thank you for the new thread Steve.
Thanks for letting us know Kbird.
Have been hearing a raccoon purr on a CNN report. Interesting. Looked it up, and they do purr.
I would think turtles on the bank would be easiest - swimming fish a tougher skill to master, but if the fishing is good, and there are lots to choose from she may have caught some already.
Regardless of whether she has caught any, she wants one delivered immediately if not sooner.
I think sooner
BBL.
Yikes, that is a racket!!!
thanks Steve and Kbird

Thanks for the thread before you left for your weekend and I hope, Steve, that you have an enjoyable one!

I wonder if Judie and Darth have completed everything they wanted to accomplish today....?
Later!
that's right JO today is MERRY HALF CHRISTMAS!!!!
Tomorrow I start at Irvine with my volunteer work with the animals and birds...whoo hooooo! Can't wait!
Steve on the way home... going to fix supper. BBL!
Glad you are enjoying my Eagle Christmas songs!

Good Lynn cause that will keep her mind off of Monday at least a little bit.
Since when is your credit score a job
requirement? How could they even
legally check that out.... I would be after them on that one!
We finished the pizza and soon after the news need to run to CVS

Okay, now I am hearing music at the nest. Dolly Parton, maybe??
And Palmer!
I do not know where it is coming from, but now I hear "Please Help Me, I'm Falling." Either it is bleeding through the nest cam system, or they are playing it at NCTC.
Jo, a LOT of employers are doing that now.....and it's legal. :(
Shirley, great video and story!! Love the little ones. Can you believe feeding the baby birds every 10-15 mins???
I don't have any country tunes coming through here.
I am still getting it loud and clear. What will Judie say?? But then, she can't hear anything at the nest. I expect it is one of the local stations around here.
I take it back...I hear it now---faintly. Must be someone parked nearby with radio really turned up!
Feeding the little birds that often would take a lot of volunteer hours.
They can't be doing that 24 hours a day. Surely, the little birds have to sleep.
I checked the microphone at the nest with the volume toggle for that site, and it's coming though there.
Somebody said the microphone is very sensitive.
I have my sound turned all the way up.

Get off that cam housing, Palmer. Did you see it shaking???????

Screeching in the nest area...
Been away for a while. Is Palmer on the nest?
What I find humorous is that it's the kind of screeching noise that sound effects movie people used to use for dinosaurs - especially flying ones - and I just bet they recorded eaglets.
Very apt, as they got the lineage right.
Oh, Lynne, just read about the hit in the head. I don't like the sound of that. Better safe than sorry. I would get him to an ER if he has a bad headache because he could have a concussion and going to sleep first might not be a good idea.
I'm afraid Lynne said goodnight so won't see my post. Feel bad about her situation - head injuries are nothing to fool around with.
Got to go - I think the screeching has stopped -

Judie, Carolyn will hear MOnday one way or the other.....look back and see what "their" concern is....LOL!
That black raspberry ice cream is calling my name........
Judie, I am trying to muster the energy to clean out closets here. If Darth can do it, maybe I can. My goal for the summer is to get rid of a lot of stuff.
Whoo Hoo! Just let Marvin (cat) inside and boy that Strawberry Moon
sure does take you breath away!
After reading your comment, Jo, I had to go look at the moon. It is beauteous.
Loretta, just looked to see IF I could see ISS at 10:04 pass---no luck--which I knew it would be as foliage is jsut too dense here.
Ice cream was GOOD!
All of this crab leg talk has me hungry for some. Will buy them when I go to the store SUnday.
I don't know if Palmer is in the nest or not. I have been away from the computer, too, Loretta.
It is so much fun watching the young eagles. They can be so funny.
Both eaglets are at TH nest. Instead of walking across the nest they fly across. lol
Thank you.
Hugs to all!
The young eagles fly across the nest for the same reason that Hunter slides into home base regardless of whether it is necessary. It is fun.
Good night, Judie.
The young like to have fun for sure.
Should we follow their example in that area?
The wind was blowing well a few minutes ago. It looked like feathers ruffling behind spidey's web.
It looks like Palmer is facing out at about 3. Her tail is near center.
You have good eyes, BEagle.
I think I see a talon around 3:30...
I wasn't watching before Spidey covered it all......
I see spider webs.
Going to check out some cams (not that many to see) and then check out FB
(Family Members)
THEN .............
I think I'll go back the hallway
to get ready for bed.....
BBILW
I think I'll say goodnight now. I'm still recuperating from the "family reunion" and now that I have the time and inclination, I'd like to continue reading my book and/or watch a movie.
A pleasant night for all and prayers for all wants/needs.
God bless!
Time for me to head upstairs. I am ready to start on one of the new books I came home with.
The high rock at the WE nest looks like a volcano. The very top is bright red.
One more thing--Lynne, you mentioned lightning. The library I went to this evening was the one where Susan and I sat in the parking lot watching lightning knocking parking lot light fixtures to pieces. We probably saw three strikes and all kinds of pieces falling all around us.
We were in my car and weren't about to get out!
B&R peanut butter and chocolate ice cream sounds good, doesn't it?
Yes, it's time for a good book and a pillow.
It has been an unusual day.
God is pure goodness. He loves you.
Goodnight.
Good Night Everyone!
Prayers for all
Hugs to all ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
GOOD EVENING ALL WHO ARE STILL AWAKE...
Tomorrow...
GOOD NIGHT MY FRIENDS
SLEEP WELL
PRAYERS FOR ALL
Evening, or morning, all.
Had a great time watching the grandkids...too busy to take one picture! Gianni is getting so big, she's already cooing! So cute!
Heading to work in the morning, try to catch up with ya'll later!
Hugs to all ♥
Hi, Everyone,
Getting here late enough that I've missed a bunch of you.
Good "SATURDAY" morning everyone:)
Osprey Diary 26th July
June 26th, 2010 by Osprey Team
What a difference a week makes- lets all hope we don’t have a repeat of last weekends awful circumstances!
Palmer just flew in...sounds like someone on the camera too
Good morning, everyone.
Come on over. New Saturday thread.
eating
Good early Sat. AM. Palmer just made her arrival---could hear her coming/ Squealing all the way....nice landing, but still hollering. What a gal!
Obviously no food waiting for her....and no nestovers, either. Feed that starving baby, Lib!
Certainly NOTHING wrong with audio now!!! No buzz/hum, either. Pure Palmer sound.
Ah----peace and quiet! LOL---but wish she hadn't left!
