Thanks, Magpie, I'll check. But the reality is ... especially this time of year .. we get a whole lot of heavy, heavy overcast in So Cal when we want to look at the moon.
I thought that maybe the aura (if you will) from the eclipse at it's peak would be something we could see. At least, that is what one of the web's seemed to suggest.
not sure BEagle might depend a lot on a good horizon (I am not really sure where you are) oh and no clouds or haze would help
we have Jim, Andrea, Anne-Marie, Bird Girl (AZ) Bev and Debs out that way maybe Glo and Vicky might be able to catch some of it maybe Lolly and Jack in TX
not sure who else is where right now sorry if I left someone out by mistake
enjoying the cat stories... Lolly, sounds very much like Annie was separated from her littermates way too early, or was an "only child". Pups and Kittens learn many social skills from being part of a litter, far more than we realize. When they don't have that interaction, they turn out very differently. Brother Cat, aka Freakshow, would prefer to drink water from anywhere BUT his bowl. And when he uses the bowl, he has to stick his paw in and lick the water off. I have just posted a video posted on my blog of him in action....
Have cleaned one corner cabinet in the kitchen and have cleaned the pantry. I am on a roll!! Should have done this before Laurel's garage sale. However, she did so well this time and she has loads of baby clothes that she is thinking of doing it again in the fall. Her babies were fall babies therefore fall and winter clothes. I bet she will do real well selling then and have money for Christmas. (I do believe someone has mentioned we are half way there! LOL) So, I will have a few things more for her.
Next....on to Laurel's closet and my school stuff I did not get rid of. Time to part with that. Need to find an early childhood teacher to give it to. Maybe Jacob's kindergarten teacher. But for now...out of the closet, into a box, and into the garage!!!
oh, we do to Shirley....he is a really unique character for sure! He's 10 (or almost) now and I really wish he'd stay in more. But he is an outdoor boy. He'll wreck things all over the house if he doesn't get to go out. Right now he is spending more time inside during the day because of the heat.
There has been a stray cat hanging around since last fall....beautiful white with orange patches. I have to make a difficult decision about this cat. He won't let us near him, but he comes onto the patio and porch some nights and he or she get into fights with Brother. So far no real damage done, but I had hoped that they would have come to an understanding by now. I don't want Brother getting hurt. Ideally I'd like to trap, vet, neuter and release. But can't afford to do that. Probably will contact a feral cat rescue for some help. I have no problem with it living here if neutering curbs the fighting....
hurricane hunters have just flown through the area of disturbed weather in the Caribbean...more info to come but looks like it's getting more organized. Pray that it doesn't, or at least doesn't move into the Gulf....
Okay, caught up on all you gabbers and singers!!! Thanks for all your prayers. Carolyn was probably only with the boss lady for about 15 mins. THey have made all of their other selections. Are worried a little about C's psych profile showing that she likes to see tasks through to a conclusion.......can't do that with 911 calls......well, duh! She said she was referring to completing a task that HAS an end (completion), or finding the missing element in a problem (like when a bank customer messed up their math), etc. Sure hope she reassured her. Told her they would let her know aye or nay Monday. asked her: so if I call Monday and offer you the job, will you take it? Carolyn responded "YES, most definitely. I want this job."
So now the poor kid will be on pins and needles all weekend. Met her for lunch---we went to Buffalo Wild Wings. New dry seasoning---Salt and Vinegar! Yummy. Loved it. Then went to farm market and got beans, corn, cukes, tomatoes AND Black Raspberry Ice Cream!!!
I need help identifying the birds that are in my birdhouse. They are brown with white wing bars and white areas near the head. There are pictures on my blog.
These birds keep coming and going. I think the young must have fledged and keep coming back, but I am not sure. They love to look out of the birdhouse, but they fly away if I step outside the door, so I have to take pictures through the window.
wow, asleep at my weather wheel....didn't realize it's Lightning Awareness week! Interesting stuff....I'm very lightning paranoid, and for good reason! Lightning Awareness I always like to remind everyone how very dangerous lightning is!
they are an invasive species, Shirley. They are very aggressive and will even kick other birds out of nests. But it isn't their fault they are here...I've never destroyed a nest myself, but I do try to scare them away from my nest boxes. I even saved a fledgling from some bluejays once....saw them attacking the baby on the street and just stopped the car and chased them off. Put baby in outdoor cage for a few days to recover...the whole family stayed with that baby outside the cage those few days!
oh yeah....where I worked a few years ago, someone came in all panicked because they found a baby bird. It had fallen out of a nest that had been built in one of the letters on the sign for the deli one the building. Too small to be out of nest....got a ladder, climbed up, put it back.
There are quite a few flying around in our Walmart, too! They hang around the garden center, and I suppose they get into the store when the auto doors open and close!
Just dumped my vase of flowers all over everything while trying to move George out of the way. Water all over camera, phones, coffee table, floor. Yuck!
Oh Shirley, that's so awful. So many people get struck every year. I just don't know why at ball games and such the coaches are not equipped with lightning detectors to warn them well ahead of time.
They are hypersensitive now, Lynne. Kathryn said that they called one of Hunter's games because someone thought they heard thunder. It sounds like they could use a detector.
OK GEORGE now listen here.....stop sending ESP messages to Brother. Can you believe it...I walked away from the computer for 1 minute and that sucker got into my glass of milk and spilled it. Thank GOD it missed the computer! It's like a conspiracy....
Shirley, the are very cute birds, and pretty tolerant of being watched while nesting. They sing like crazy too! Because they are so common, they are most people's "first" birds to watch nest. I'd never do them any harm, but some people do kill them.
Glad they are hypersensitive about the lightning now....detectors are a bit pricey but so worth it. I used to have one that clipped onto my pants but the lights eventually burned out after a few years. That one was about $80. Not in the budget these days! But they come in all shapes and sizes.
Lynn eats corn - not sure about the green veggies. She listed them on the other page and it was a short list! I just don't know how she grew sooooo tall without her green veggies! lol
Tethering ordinance passed the commissioners' vote yesterday....one of the three voted against it. Sheriff and prosecuting attorney were both against it....not in intent, but in enforcement probabilities. (They both are on our target list as far as re-election goes when they come up for re-election. P.A. did NOT feel that locking a dog in an attic, starving it, wrapping duct tape around it's nose/mouth was felony abuse.) The ordinance was watered down from the initial proposal---from 8 hrs. max allowable to be chained out to 12 hrs. So, IMHO, that allows a dog to be out in the full-force heat of the day or cold of the night, or any combo thereof.....TOO long.
Yep, Paula---cukes are on my LIKE list----but can only eat them "treated"---tummy doesn't like them much anymore. I do them in the water/sugar/vinegar brine---like a relish. I like pickles, too----but haven't made any in years, either, SHirley....except for watermelon pickles two years ago.
Lynn - don't know why enforcement would be hard - almost everyone has a cell phone with a cam & could have picture proof. I'm glad you were able to attend but sorry you had to have the frustration that went with it.
I can get glimpses of Palmer on my smart phone - but can only see still cam on it - when I'm on breaks at work, so I have been able to get a fix or two during the week. But nothing compares to seeing her move and hearing that screech!
Hanover has a good frozen whole green bean...their blue lake variety. Best frozen ones are those grown in your garden and frozen same day...used to do that.
Yes, Jo, fresh from the garden---COOKED, of course!! LOL! Sheriff says they don't have enough manpower to enforce......argh!! I say deputize some citizens!!!!
The 101st Airborne call themselves the Screaming Eagles (hubby was with them when he was in the Army). It's supposed to be an intimidating moniker. Well, I'd say when you come flying in like that, you come across with an attitude that says don't mess with ME or you're in BIG TROUBLE, THAT's for sure!
Vase didn't break. I picked the flowers up off the floor and put them back in. Rebecca and Rus brought them when they came on Saturday, so they have lasted pretty well.
Lynn - do you think Carolyn will sit around and worry or will she get rid of the jitters by cleaning the whole house and things of that nature. Sure will be keeping my prayers going up for her....... & you, momma!
Seems like an odd thing to pick on. She likes to see things through to a conclusion. Most people do. Doesn't mean you have to.
When Kathryn applied for her first job, she listed teaching Vacation Bible School on her resume. As a young person, volunteer work is what you have to put on the list. My kitty was Chester. Started with Chessie but then became obvious that Chester was more appropriate.
There was a split. What time is the lunar eclipse in EST?
Thought the other PH chick fledged but pretty sure the eaglet is in the extreme lower right corner of the site.
Isla is eating again and keeps checking her chicks.
Getting ready to adopt one of three abandoned kitties.
Among her many great qualities, Isla has very pretty coloring and a sweet look to her face.
She is feeding her growing offspring.
BEagle
here is a link with a lot of the times and info
bet you already got this
Partial Lunar Eclipse Info for June 26
there are many other links but this is the one I could get to the quickest
so for us along the Eastern time zones, we are probably not going to see it, or, not much of if anyway
well, there will be total eclipse on December 21 - maybe we can see that one!
see your post Jim...
...sigh...
well, maybe anyway, and you are nightowling a lot so maybe you can tell us about it if you see anything
got to catch a nap before work tonight
ttfn Have a Good Morning and Afternoon
xo
Thank you MP.
I thought that maybe the aura (if you will) from the eclipse at it's peak would be something we could see.
At least, that is what one of the web's seemed to suggest.
The fox that appeared at the PH nest must have taken it busy nose elsewhere.
No more reports. ?
Finally, the TH cam is up.
Ooohhhh. The two are on the TH nest and fighting at each other.
There must have been a food drop.
I think it was a mere nestover. Really not much to fight about children!
Link to Full Nest of Ospreys
not sure BEagle
might depend a lot on a good horizon
(I am not really sure where you are)
oh and no clouds or haze would help
we have Jim, Andrea, Anne-Marie, Bird Girl (AZ)
Bev and Debs out that way
maybe Glo and Vicky might be able to catch some of it
maybe Lolly and Jack in TX
not sure who else is where right now sorry if I left someone out by mistake
The WE cam is also up. The two still stand side by side, looking like penguins, standing on a rock and looking out at the ocean.
:D
Wow Jo, that is a nest full. How many chicks are on there?!!!
Four, Five?
The adult female is standing and then the four chicks are suppose to be napping!
Putting my feet up for an hour because it seems like most others have done the same or are out and about.
BBILW
Wow Jo thanks
caught that just before checking out
Up close and personal...that one chick looks like it has an itch he cannot get to !
the sound I heard at NCTC this morning, the "bird" I could not identify by sound...I do believe it was a Cicada! Just heard my first here at home...
as sure a sound of Summer, as the Spring Peepers are in the Spring
'Night now

Brunch for Phoenix.

Hi,
Wow, Jo, that is a nestful.
They have an odd means of refreshing the picture there.
Shirley, CT nest works better in IE
Thanks, Paula. I will try that.
That is better, Paula.
enjoying the cat stories...
Lolly, sounds very much like Annie was separated from her littermates way too early, or was an "only child". Pups and Kittens learn many social skills from being part of a litter, far more than we realize. When they don't have that interaction, they turn out very differently.

Really a full nest.
I get a big kick out of Brother Cat, Lynne.

Can someone give me the address for the CT cam?
To clarify. I need the website of the CT cam due to the default of the link Jo shared.
Trying to move it into IE

WOOO HOOOO sing it with me Lolly....WE WISH YOU A MERRY (half) CHRISTMAS.....
If you look at Palmers nest, you will see the turtle shell underneath the big one is still there.
I do believe there are 4 shells on this nest folks.
Happy half-way Ho Ho.
Palmer just flew in.
PALMER IS HERE.
Hello everybody. We have a gorgeous afternoon visitor in the nest!
Just getting on and Palmer came to join me!!!

You are doing just fine L2.
hurricane hunters have just flown through the area of disturbed weather in the Caribbean...more info to come but looks like it's getting more organized. Pray that it doesn't, or at least doesn't move into the Gulf....

http://www.ctaudubon.org/action/osprey.htm
Paula
I couldn't get the CT site over to IE to get some improvement. That's why I wanted the name of the site.
Palmer's gone!
GONE
SHE'll BE HOME FOR (HALF) CHRISTMAS...YOU CAN COUNT ON HER...
oh my, someone slipped silly juice into my Pepsi...better go do something productive or this will go on and on.....
Thanks Paula.
I will have to get my machine geek on that one. IE is foo-foo sometimes.
Sing it L2!!!
I'm drinking Pepsi too!
IE is soooo foo foo that I missed Palmers flight off. :(.....
Paula.....
If you look in the afternoon light, you can see the 3rd shell right below the big overturned one.
Palmer also removed some debris that had fallen on it.
Okay, caught up on all you gabbers and singers!!!

Then went to farm market and got beans, corn, cukes, tomatoes AND Black Raspberry Ice Cream!!!
Now need to check all links!
Good pics, great story about the dogs---so glad they escaped that environment and are hopefully headed to happy homes.
Now to check out eclipse info.
I need help identifying the birds that are in my birdhouse. They are brown with white wing bars and white areas near the head. There are pictures on my blog.
The best picture is on the June 5th post, under "older posts."
Well, doesn't look like the East coast will see any of the eclipse. Chart doesn't even list EDT. So guess I'll stay in bed!!
These birds keep coming and going. I think the young must have fledged and keep coming back, but I am not sure. They love to look out of the birdhouse, but they fly away if I step outside the door, so I have to take pictures through the window.
Trying to get a plan for dinner and
pizza sounds easy and good. Maybe cut back to medium size for us with salad. Lynn your market items sound good.
BBL after dinner......
Watch out for that Pepsi - it sometimes makes you silly. lol
they look like House Sparrows
it's the bubbles in the Pepsi, Jo!
Oh dear, it says "[i]t is better to have no nestbox at all than to allow house sparrows reproduce in one."
wow, asleep at my weather wheel....didn't realize it's Lightning Awareness week!
Interesting stuff....I'm very lightning paranoid, and for good reason!
Lightning Awareness
I always like to remind everyone how very dangerous lightning is!
they are an invasive species, Shirley. They are very aggressive and will even kick other birds out of nests. Palmer back!
Awww. Palmer is back.
Thanks for the lightning information, Lynne. We had a fatality in our county last summer on a baseball field.
They had called the game and the kids were walking back to the car when the lightning struck.
I heard Palmer's screeching hissy fit.
BEagle, RE -the turtle shell, I saw it there this morning, then changed my mind!..It looked further to the left!
Palmer is back in all her screaming glory!! Heard her squawking from across the house!!
Just dumped my vase of flowers all over everything while trying to move George out of the way. Water all over camera, phones, coffee table, floor. Yuck!
Paula, the shell to left IS probably an older one. Me thinks there is 4 on the nest.
Cukes are brining.....ran out of vinegar--argh!!! So they aren't covered....will just have to stir often, I guess.
and an EAGLET IN A SYCAMORE TREEEEEEEE HO HO HO!
Oh Shirley, that's so awful. So many people get struck every year. I just don't know why at ball games and such the coaches are not equipped with lightning detectors to warn them well ahead of time.
Haven't made pickles for years, Lynn. I hope yours turn out good.
Palmer was braying.
She must see adult above the cam. she was peering upward.
Maybe we do have four shells, I put another pic up from this morning.
Palmer still in the nest, but no dinner yet.
Is Lynn eating cucumbers???
They are hypersensitive now, Lynne. Kathryn said that they called one of Hunter's games because someone thought they heard thunder. It sounds like they could use a detector.
OK GEORGE now listen here.....stop sending ESP messages to Brother. Can you believe it...I walked away from the computer for 1 minute and that sucker got into my glass of milk and spilled it. Thank GOD it missed the computer! It's like a conspiracy....
I'm no expert, Shirley, but I'm thinking house sparrow, too.
Nice pic of George, too!
Yes there is an adult above. All the more reason to squeal.
heard some banging...parent up above?
She was squawking while I was talking to the boss on the phone! Had to mute the sound, LOL
I have been enjoying watching the antics of the birds in my nest. Too bad they are invasive ones.
George is telling me that it is dinner time. He is almost on the keyboard.
George is sitting by the flowers that got dumped a bit later!
Lynn, my Mom had a great recipe for pickled spicy green beans
CT OSPREY CAM
Does Lynn eat green beans???
Shirley, the are very cute birds, and pretty tolerant of being watched while nesting. They sing like crazy too! Because they are so common, they are most people's "first" birds to watch nest. I'd never do them any harm, but some people do kill them.
Glad they are hypersensitive about the lightning now....detectors are a bit pricey but so worth it. I used to have one that clipped onto my pants but the lights eventually burned out after a few years. That one was about $80. Not in the budget these days! But they come in all shapes and sizes.
Palmer flew off.
my goodness, that was quite the fanfare on exit!
Palmer just poofed again!
Wouldn't have the heart to kill them, Lynne.
I think all of my stuff has survived the inundation.
Lynn eats corn - not sure about the green veggies. She listed them on the other page and it was a short list!
I just don't know how she grew sooooo
tall without her green veggies! lol
Screeching eagle arrival
Another screaming arrival!
she has a whole new vocabulary of sounds! Do I hear a dog barking?
I wonder to where she is poofing - you think they are teaching her how to eat when not in the nest? Could be....
Pizza will be here soon.......
Tethering ordinance passed the commissioners' vote yesterday....one of the three voted against it. Sheriff and prosecuting attorney were both against it....not in intent, but in enforcement probabilities. (They both are on our target list as far as re-election goes when they come up for re-election. P.A. did NOT feel that locking a dog in an attic, starving it, wrapping duct tape around it's nose/mouth was felony abuse.)
The ordinance was watered down from the initial proposal---from 8 hrs. max allowable to be chained out to 12 hrs. So, IMHO, that allows a dog to be out in the full-force heat of the day or cold of the night, or any combo thereof.....TOO long.
She's back,,LOL
Hello there Kickngbird! Are you glad it is Friday?
Shirley, Lynn eats green beans FRESH only! No canned or frozen ones!!
TGIF!! AND HOW!!!!!
kick them out of office, Lynn, or tie them to a fence for 12 hours
So you eat them in season, only. Well, that is something at least:)
In and out and In again.
took one pic, looked like Palmer had LAID a turtle shell..wonder if her feathers are wet
not so hot today, less humidity
darn, terrible time to have to leave for work
Lynn
wow, pins and needles for sure...still got those prayers going!
Happy Friday evening to everyone...
Watch for that nearly-full might as well call it full Moon, also check for your ISS flyovers
xoxo
Must feed George. I have a meow-fest going on here.
I'm glad you were able
to attend but sorry you had to have the
frustration that went with it.
Now Do you eat green beans fresh from
the garden?
I can get glimpses of Palmer on my smart phone - but can only see still cam on it - when I'm on breaks at work, so I have been able to get a fix or two during the week. But nothing compares to seeing her move and hearing that screech!
Sorry about your vase mess, Shirley. Hope it didn't break.
Hanover has a good frozen whole green bean...their blue lake variety. Best frozen ones are those grown in your garden and frozen same day...used to do that.
Palmer is back.
Even intruding birds need a place to live!
Oh my we found watermelon pickles in Mom's basement last year...they were still good!
UGH Lynn, how frustrating.
Yes, Jo, fresh from the garden---COOKED, of course!! LOL!
Sheriff says they don't have enough manpower to enforce......argh!! I say deputize some citizens!!!!
Heading home, going to baby sit grandkids this evening, Ajay needed some out with friends time. Talk to you much later!
The 101st Airborne call themselves the Screaming Eagles (hubby was with them when he was in the Army). It's supposed to be an intimidating moniker. Well, I'd say when you come flying in like that, you come across with an attitude that says don't mess with ME or you're in BIG TROUBLE, THAT's for sure!
oh for Pete's sake what a fuss....
Good grief!!!!
I think Belle needs to knock this kid up side her head!!! Nasty!
Lib was tripping over himself trying to get away from Palmer.
You can hear THAT from a long way off, can't you?
That was a lot of fuss over a bitty fish.
BTW---heard this morning that someplace in Washington state, it was 34 degrees! I'll take what we have, thank you very much!
Vase didn't break. I picked the flowers up off the floor and put them back in. Rebecca and Rus brought them when they came on Saturday, so they have lasted pretty well.
Yes, I heard that hollering from the kitchen. When I got here, it looked like Lib was really under attack.
Lynn - do you think Carolyn will sit around and worry or will she get rid of the jitters by cleaning the whole house and things of that nature.
Sure will be keeping my prayers going up for her....... & you, momma!
Friday thread is up
Seems like an odd thing to pick on. She likes to see things through to a conclusion. Most people do. Doesn't mean you have to.
When Kathryn applied for her first job, she listed teaching Vacation Bible School on her resume. As a young person, volunteer work is what you have to put on the list. The prospective employer thought she might be upset working in a car repair shop (at Sears) because people are upset when they come to get their cars repaired and Kathryn might have to hear some strong language.
