Happy Memorial Day everyone! Hope it is a special day for you and one of rememberance. I had Friday with Michael and family and yesterday with Laurel and family, today.....a very relaxing day.
Happy Birthday Jim! Enjoy YOUR special day! Wow, a whole year younger!☺
Thanks Paula. I thought that was a chick at BWO. Congrats to BWO I was just looking in on the loon nest also. Larry said mom was off the nest for 22 minutes this morning. He was worried. He said it was cold this morning.
Watching the squirrel out on the railing - they really do crack open those peanut shells quickly.
I think we always get too much at any one time. Need to keep an eye out for the Little Loons and the BWOsprey chicks and especially know the whereabouts of out gal Palmer in the nest.
Yes, Jo...and I need to do some things out in the yard. Maybe I can take my laptop out there. lol
Right now I am off to eat a bite and then head to the yard. My daffodil leaves have finally bit the dust and time to clean then away. Have done a lot but have more to do. This is my kind of lazyt day....working the yard.
All morning chores/activities done. B-day cards ready for the girls----used curling iron to smooth our some wrinkled paper currency; worked great!! Now to wrap. Partee at 3 at Pizza Hut.
Good Monday Memorial Day in Eagle Land; Mits, Shirley, Lynn1-Hedgie, BIRTHDAY GUY JIM, Ceil, Judie, Paula, Mema Jo, Lolly and those coming in and watchers.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO A MAN THAT TRIED YEARS AGO TO KEEP US THINKING HE WAS ALWAYS 19 YRS. OLD. AND ONE WHOM GAVE SERVICE TO OUR COUNTRY AS A MARINE. HAPPY TO HAVE YOU AS A DADSTER BIRTHDAY JIM
I would feel alot better if Palmer would stand up there at Noonish rather than on the launch pad. I really don't need a premature flight just for Memorial Day! I'll wait for Flag Day!

Hi Mema Jo yes I did make it to the service. This was Rosedale's 1st Memorial Day Service. Flags was placed throughout the Military section marking graves. I think the Boy Scouts placed them around So many of them being moved slowly by the air. Although it was advertised in paper. Few were there....that made me very sad. On this day and only this day at Rosedale ALL MILITARY FLAGS WERE FLYING. Otherwise only the American Flag will fly all the time. So strange I took a picture of the SYMBOL OF THE MARINE CORP AT THE BASE OF THE FLAG. Then I looked up to take a picture of the Marine Corp Flag. I said, "Ed your flag won't open and spread out." Just then honestly the MARINE CORP FLAG SPREAD OPEN of course I snapped a picture. It was a touching ceremony. Honor Guard was there at attention. A Honor Guard was standing straight and proud as can be by the American Flag pole. When time came saluting and firing of rifles. After a wonderful reading about some people who served in different wars. Even a letter a son wrote to his Mother-but he never made it home. Bringing things to the present day crisis our Country faces. Saluting and hands over hearts, tears in eyes, as the American flag was lowered to a certain point. All participated in the Lords Prayer. Then you heard off in the distance but clearly a bugle playing taps, after that further in the distance you heard a bugle playiing taps again, then much much further the slight hearing of a bugle playing taps. To end the ceremony. All was very touching and respectul of our Men and Women and their Families and Loved Ones.
I just pray that next year the 2nd Memorial Day Service more people will come.
Our Freedom in this Country is not free. Prices were paid by many Men and Women and their families. Even those that returned to raise a family or just to live out their life until the GOOD LORD decided it was time to RETURN HOME. They too paid a price by carrying it around in their minds and hearts. Even if they didn't participate in a war...there were CRISIS that could have turned to wars. Even don't forget to Remember THOSE THAT NEVER RETURNED HOME..POW's.
A mature adult knows to do that ferocious twisting head motion that rips more efficiently than the straight back pulling that Palmer is doing - that works on a softer fish body but not on tougher meat.
It's hard work when your technique is inefficient. She's expending a lot of energy to get this food into her. It's part of the learning process, but she has to get better at this before she'll be ready to be on her own.
I haven't had Watson's fried chicken for sooooooo long! I also love Cozys' and Mountaingates' chicken. Had some cole slaw at Dutch's the other evening - love it!
Shutterfly pics from the Germany gang when they took a day trip to the Legoland Deutchland. Lego is an international product. I remember just going to FL's legoland and this one in Germany is 20 times larger!
I had to delete a double post... There is the Spill Cam (Oil Tracker) at the very bottom of our home page...... Way far down... Very interesting and devastating to see those figures.....
Have not read back on the blog, but just in case...this was put on fb.
Lily the Black Bear May 31, 2010 - 11:55 AM CST This morning's visit to Lily and Hope went well. Hope was eager for the 'formula' we brought so she's likely not getting enough milk yet from Lily. However, she's still nursing and getting at least some milk from Lily. This bodes well for the future. Hopefully things will be back to normal soon. -- SM
Through in the yard for today. It is presently 91. Yuk! Going to clean up now and Jack and I are heading to Fort Worth. Going to Central Mkt to get meat that we can not get at local grocery stores.
Flash has gone home. There was a happy greeting. Tom, Kathryn, and Hunter stayed briefly, then headed home to get things ready for another week of work and school.
I have finished all of the papers! But there are two rejects in this class. Those two will have to fix their papers if they want passing grades.
and HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JIM!! Hope it's a great day for you!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, TOO, TO LYNN'S JENN! Hope it's a good day, full of some nice surprises!
I have been sort of missing in action--have tried to catch up on the blog, and when I have, it seems it's time to eat lunch or dinner, or we're supposed to go somewhere! Sorry about that! Hate to miss what's going on here!
Glad to hear that Hope's doing much better--hope she continues to improve! Love that little bear!
We have been thrilled to see that we have several Bullock's Orioles coming to (of all things!) our hummingbird feeder! There's an adult male, a juvie male, and 2 females. Found out they like blueberries. All seems to be OK--our hummers are willing to share.
Have seen a male Brown-headed cowbird who's been showing up with the sparrows for a few days now.
Shirley, glad you managed to get all those papers graded! Hope you have an enjoyable day.
Earlier today, Hubby disappeared for a while, and came home with 2 big delphinium plants, 2 Mexican primrose, and a lavender-flowered lantana. Really perked up our patio!
Well, need to get some lunch. Will check back in later. Have a fantastic afternoon, what's left of it! :o]
Geez, it's 4:54 PM and our parade is to start at 5, BUT, it's raining. I'm at my window and on my chair and watching the rain drops and listening to the thunder.
we've been here 41 years and only once was the parade cancelled. Maybe this will be the second?
Palmer eating something - this time a little more twisting of the head when tearing at it, which is much more efficient than when I watched the earlier meal (the straight back pulling wasn't working so well on the tough meat). I think there is some learning/maturing going on!
Back home! Tonight kabobs on the grill, a new recipe with sausage and shrimp. We also got some salmon that was on sale for tomorrow night on the grill.
No doubt now that the zoo cam network will be much busier! Party was okay....A/C wasn't working: terribly hot in the Hut. And I just realized a few minutes ago that I LEFT MY CAMERA hanging om my chair! ARGH! Called and they have it locked in the safe-whew!! Thank the Lord for honest people! Will go b ack tomorrow to get it----it's a 30 mile round trip for me, and I've already gotten comfortable again (clothes-wise), so....
One time at my doctors office, I took off a necklace, having a mammogram. Realized it was gone when I got home. called, and they had it! Yea! Well, it was 25 miles away so I did not get up there for a day or two. Well, when I got there they could not find it. The doctor bought me a new neckace. They figured it was the cleaning crew. It was a long gold chain with a special charm with a tiny diamond on it. A friend had made the charm, so he could make another.
Hear voices on the loon cam. Sounds like children,.
Well, make this the second year the parade was cancelled. we had terrible storms with hail, wind, and lots and lots of rain!! We were even on the weater channel's report. I also have a flooded laundry room. can't do anything until Jim and youngest get home.
Well, make this the second year the parade was cancelled. we had terrible storms with hail, wind, and lots and lots of rain!! We were even on the weater channel's report. I also have a flooded laundry room. can't do anything until Jim and youngest get home.
I've been sleeping most of day. Feel so tired. Right eye giving me problems.
Martinsburg is getting a few sprinkles. Might turn to a rain.
Going to check my deck to see if rain. Planting flowers tomorrow. So I will just move them under table on porch they will still get some nice water if it rains. Looks like rain so I'll wait to water them. If no rain later I'll water them. Been cracking up at the Cardinal vine. For now have setting on porch near railing. It likes it there already wrapped itself one piece around the rail. hee hee Wonder if they have ever been planted in a big pot and left on porch? I have to ask Megan. They other plants I got from her that hadn't bloomed are blooming already nicely. I just LOVE THE "MEGAN PALNTS". I know she plants them with love.
Whoooo Just had a parent fly in. Can't see food yet. Palmer is really whining. No I can't see any food. Anyone else?
Rain all around us...not a drop here:( Gardens are so dry. Need to mulch veggies. Last year, we put down layers of newspapers and straw on top. Looked weird, but it worked! Need more mulch in flower beds. Can't settle down long enough to do that. I know I need to get out early in the morning, but by the time I drink my coffee and read the news paper, it's time to go into GG's. Dustin helped by mowing the lawn. Maybe he will stay a while this Summer and help until we can get caught up. I love cooking for him...he eats everything on his plate. A few years back, he had no appetite at all. Wouldn't even eat mac & cheese (his favorite). He had a bowel obstruction or something on those lines. Like a garbage disposal now:)
Well, I wrote an essay. It is not particularly long, but it is written. Pulled something off the stuff I wrote for my class this spring and adjusted it. I am "plumb wore out" with reading and writing serious stuff at this point.
Couldn't send it in though. The link to the school was taking so long I think it is down right now.
If you aren't on Facebook....here's Sissy's news: she slipped and fell in the rain on the camper steps.....bummed her bum and arm. X-rays okay....just bruising.
Goodnight, Shirley, and congrats on finishing your grading and your essay! Dynamo!!
Judie, sounds like a fun evening tomorrow!! Such a nice thing to do for the police and the volunteers! Yes, ma'am: camera safe in lock-up!! No thieves to prosecute!
Shirley, glad you not only got all the papers graded but also your essay is written. Congratulations and sleep well.
Hope Sissy will be okay tomorrow and so glad she wasn't seriously hurt.
Wanda, hope you get some rain and can get the mulching done. If not, it's okay as GG comes first and maybe Dustin will be able to help out some this summer. That would be really nice.
Going to the school house tomorrow morning to transfer some VHS material to DVDs. Won't get it all done but may get about half.
Turning my light off but leaving the night light on for others coming in -- or going to a bath or back the hallway or up the stairs. Goodnight everyone.
Goodnight, Judie and Jo. I'm right behind you. Hope Andy sets the security! Hoping that all is well with Lynne2....she's been AWOL all weekend, I think! Peace and prayers.
Oh, Mema Jo, I'm jealous! Lightning bugs! Just LOVE them! Don't have them out here, but sure wish we did!
Glad to hear that Sissy wasn't badly hurt, and hope she isn't sore tomorrow!
Shirley, glad you got your paper written and off your mind. Hope you sleep well tonight.
Lynn, so happy your camera is safe and you can go get it tomorrow!
Had fun talking to the kids on the cell phone today. Think I'd be a nut case without "Friends & Family"!
Had chicken and corn on the cob tonight--turned out yummy!
Jim and Jenn, hope your birthday was enjoyable!
Well, getting tired, so think I'll veg in TV land for a while. Prayers said for everyone. The night light is on, the porch light is automatic, and the eye scanner security is enabled. Sleep well, eagle and bear cub friends, and I'll talk to you tomorrow. God bless, and goodnight! Love all you guys! :o]
Hi all! Would you believe we are wishing for rain here? It is getting a little scary...100 degree temps forcast for later in the week. We had so much rain and then it stopped. We are having to water some areas already, while it is still damp in others.
About my necklace...oh, yes, the doctor paid for a new chain and charm. They had it, they "lost" it. He wrote me a very nice letter of apology with a check. Had my friend who was a barber by trade and a jeweler by hobby write a letter to say how much it was to replace the charm.
Posted on FB just a little while ago. Can hardly wait to hear!
Lily the Black BearMay 31, 2010 - 10:40 PM CDT Tonight there will be 2 updates -- the one Lynn wrote earlier this evening and one I will write about the drama that occurred during this evenings visit to Lily and Hope. First will be posted soon. -- SM
Was reading the comments on Lily's page on FB. The "fans" there were having a ball tonight. They were having a wild time with their comments. Maybe punch drunk? LOL
We are so relieved to see little Hope doing better. Thanks to you all for help.
Today, Hope got as much formula as she wanted plus grapes, banana chips, and Pedialyte. This morning, the formula was made with canned goat’s milk. This evening, it was made with fresh goat’s milk. A happy family from Wisconsin drove up hundreds of dollars worth of fresh and frozen goat’s milk for Hope—gallons of it. Enough for the duration. Still not as good as real bear milk, but as good as one can do. To the goat’s milk we add; heavy cream, egg yolks, fish oil, olive oil, plain yogurt, calcium carbonate, vitamins B and C. .
More food is coming, and Hope will be increasing her consumption of wild foods. Meal worms are on order plus herbs and hormones to unplug Lily’s milk ducts and stimulate lactation. Lily is being motherly, nurturing, and playful with Hope. Physically and behaviorally, she is not showing any sign of estrus. Each day we are more confident of the outcome. Our goal is to give Hope the best chance of life with Lily in the wild. The expert advice we are getting on rejuvenating Lily’s lactation is to give Hope the best food we can and enough of it to give her strength to nurse vigorously to maximally stimulate lactation. We are encouraged to see Hope take the formula and then nurse vigorously as the experts hoped. Even a little bear milk will make a difference in her health. Our goal is for Lily to again become the main source of nutrition. Today, I thought some of the lumps in Lily’s breasts were softer.
Thank you to the many experts who provided the latest data on dealing with this kind of crisis.
I can hear the critics who think we should have done nothing. That would have meant we would not have found Hope. The likelihood of them finding each other after 5 days apart was practically nil. Hope likely would have died alone and unseen. We wouldn’t have known if she were sick or simply starving.
If we did nothing, we would have learned practically nothing from her disappearance and death. There is much to learn from her life. We already have. And as time goes on, we are narrowing the possibilities of why Lily went on her walkabout.
Being the caboose again I think... just catching up on the blog posts.
Dana thorough and touching report of the service at Rosedale on Sunday, thank you. Love the story about the Marine Corps Flag. There is a "Military Flat Section" on the other side of Rosedale Road also, that's where my parents are buried, no flags there except the ones the families brought in. But there were two representatives of Rosedale there, one to help families find gravesites, and another offering flags, I thought that was nice.
It's June, thanks Jo for the new Momsters Photo Album...you are right on the ball! I loved the last several pictures you posted, especially the Memorial Day Picnic !
sorry to hear the parade was canceled Diann big disappointment for the paraders and the parade-watchers for sure :( hope it can be rescheduled... soon....
Lynn Woof about the Hot Hut and forgetting your camera, glad it was still a nice party and that your camera is in safe hands!
Second update....not good. Think I may give up on bears and stick with eagles. Prayers for Hope and Lily.
Update II - May 31, 2010 – 11:20 PM CDTShare. Yesterday at 11:49pm Drama in the Woods
Lynn handed off the previous update to me just before I headed out to bring Hope her first formula made from the fresh goat’s milk. I wanted to get out to her before dark so I figured the update could wait. I located Lily and Hope at a large aspen tree where they were bedded.
I gave Lily a few nuts to keep her busy while I fed Hope. Hope loved the new formula! She also ate all of the cottage cheese—though I think she was really looking for more of the grapes I had mixed in it.
When Lily finished the nuts she roamed around a bit while Hope was finishing up. Then suddenly Lily came rushing back to the bed tree grunting in concern. Hope leapt for the tree and climbed high. Lily stood up against the tree grunting and looking off into the woods. We were not alone.
At first I wondered if there was a person walking along a nearby trail, and then I heard the grunting of another bear. We think of grunting as a friendly sound – but Lily seemed frightened. I could see another bear approaching in the growing darkness. It was a collared bear but I could not see well enough to identify it. I ran through a few frequencies on the telemetry receiver and found it was Lily’s mother June. Lily ran off huffing.
June followed Lily – still grunting. I could hear thrashing of brush and huffing. I monitored their signals as the strength of both decreased as the bears moved away.
I stayed near Hope’s tree, waiting for Lily to return. When I realized that wasn’t going to happen any time soon, I picked my way out of the woods in the dark and headed back to the field station.
As I write this (11:20 PM) Lily is resting nearly a mile away from the Hope’s tree. June is resting 0.35 miles from Lily and 0.63 miles from Hope. I am thankful for the GPS units that give me these locations.
Hope is alone once more. What does this all mean?
There are those reading this that will condemn me for not staying near Hope’s tree. Suffice it to say that I did what I thought best at the time. I can better monitor Lily and June from here. I feel Hope is safe as long as she stays in the tree. Hope is in an area this time that she is very familiar with – unlike last time when she was left in a totally unfamiliar area. Fortunately Hope had eaten quite a bit before Grandma June showed up.
The rollercoaster ride continues for us all. We could all use a break, but it just doesn’t let up.
GOOD MORNING... What distressing news about Lily and Hope from late last night (as reported by Lolly). This morning's report is even more distressing. Can we take anymore of this REAL LIFE DRAMA!? FROM FACEBOOK: Lily the Black Bear June 1, 2010 - 7:30 AM I returned to the tree Hope was in last night -- but she is no longer there. Hope has gone missing again. Hopefully she will remain in the general area so we can find her. -- SM
Thanks for posting about the Lily/Hope saga...not sure I could have done it....so depressing and discouraging after such an upbeat report earlier yesterday. Bad June. Don't understand why she has to interfere. Morning all. Another gray day---spritzsing a wee bit. Jo, I saw lightening bugs last night, too!!!! Happy Birthday to Wanda's Dustin and to my sister. My Christie reported this AM for her first-ever jury duty. Yuck-yuck!!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY DUSTIN. You have a wonderful grandmom and grandpop and great grandmom HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO LYNN'S SISTER. Sorry Lynn I forgot her name but I am lucky I remember mine.
Think I am going to head out and work in the yard before it gets too hot. We have decided to change our walking to the afternoons so we can spend time in the cooler mornings working outside.
Have a great day! Adult continues to devour the small fish and Palmer continues to fuss. Okay, now Palmer has walked out and is being fed. Lazy bird!
Did You Know....that squirrels have young ones twice a year? Jan/Feb and May/June. I have been watching the new spring nest for any signs (pic of nest on my Lair if you didn't see it before--tho' now it looks like a winter nest since the leaves have turned brown) but haven't seen any activity yet.
Well, Christie was released for today---defendant didn't show up. Rescheduled for tomorrow! So we are hooking up for lunch since we both have some errands in Mtsbg.

Happy Birthday Jim! Enjoy YOUR special day! Wow, a whole year younger!☺
Wonder what Palmer is looking at? Every once in a while he calls out.
Made a new cheese cake recipe yesterday. This one was Dulce La Leche Cheese cake. It passed the test!! It is very yummy!
Just saw a big shadow fly over the nest.
Wow! Bands marching and flags flying!
Here's to Memorial Day Celebrations!
Thanks Steve for thinking of us so early in the day.
Happy Birthday Jim - German chocolate cake sounds great - let me know what flavor of ice cream you get!
Jen - enjoy your special day and my wish is for you to have a great year ahead of you
Shadown went over again. Hmmmm???Wonder if it is Belle or Lib.
BWO chick getting a meal!
Just created a new word! Shadown! LOL
Happy birthday, Jim!
Thanks for the heads up, Paula. Hurried over and saw the BWO chick.
Thanks Paula. I thought that was a chick at BWO. Congrats to BWO
I was just looking in on the loon nest also. Larry said mom was off the nest for 22 minutes this morning. He was worried. He said it was cold this morning.
Good morning, everyone
Beautiful Memorial Day on which to remember those who have sacrificed for us.
Happy Birthday to Jim and to Jenn.
Very nice report on Hope and Lily. Please let Hope continue to improve.
Wanda, so glad GG called to let you know she needed help. Just wish everything would get better soon. You're a very special daughter.
Lolly, glad you had two nice days with family and Shirley, are you and your boy toy going to join Will's party?
Going to look in on Palmer again.
Ceil, you were just ahead of me peeking in on the loon and reading the cam. This should be the week of hatching there.
That shadow keeps flying across our nest.
Happy Birthday Jim!!
Happy Birthday to Lynn's GD Jenn!!
I meant reading the loon blog. Boy, I should give up writing and typing!
Watching the squirrel out on the railing - they really do crack open those peanut shells quickly.

All morning chores/activities done. B-day cards ready for the girls----used curling iron to smooth our some wrinkled paper currency; worked great!! Now to wrap. Partee at 3 at Pizza Hut.
Enjoy the party Lynn.
Finally Palmer came out from under the cam! I can see more then just her head
That didn't last long - right back up to tree trunk.
I'm not sure what noise I am hearing on the live feed...... Maybe a saw or something.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO HEDGIES GD ALSO.
I JUST HEARD A BEEP BEEP AT THE NEST.
I would feel alot better if Palmer would stand up there at Noonish rather than on the launch pad. I really don't need a premature flight just for Memorial Day! I'll wait for Flag Day!
Sometimes hard to watch Palmer (as was Hidey) alone trying to entertain himself. Much more fun with multiples!
Hi Dana - I've been looking for you
Megan said you were at Market -
Did you also make it to the Memorial Service?
I agree Hedgie!
It sure is another hot one out there!
Yes, it is hot out there. I had to untangle Flash from the tree. He had wound himself up until he could hardly move.
I tried to get him to follow me around the tree to unwind, but it took awhile for him to go in the right direction, then he started barking and growling and biting at my ankles. So much puppy still in that dog.
It would have been funny to watch me circling the tree with a leaping, growling, biting pup following. I had to laugh at the situation. I did not want to unhook him out there in the yard. There are too many temptations to make him run off.
That was probably a good show, Shirley!
I wonder if an adult will come soon with some food for our gal!
I hear her.....
It has been awhile since hungry gal had breakfast. Hot air might have Lib and Belle well aloft!
Shirley, I can picture it now!!! Best thing is to switch to leash before unhooking the tether!

I think there is new stick material in the nest!
My goodness, what noise she makes! Not a happy eaglet.
Parent arrival 12 o'clock - Palmer ran over from tree and started fussing, parent flew off
Parent in and out...don't see food....
Yes, Lynn. I was too lazy to come in and get the leash, although I am sure I worked harder in the end.
BBL.
Maybe some nestovers?
Eaglet at BWO
Looks like Palmer is eating
Yep, think she started digging around looking for something, anything---hungry baby!!
I still don't think Palmer quite has the hang of it yet - if there is fur or skin or something to go through first
Find it amazing that spoiled meats don't make critters sick!
Cat cartoonist Kliban:
Love to eat them mousies
Mousies what I love to eat
Nibble they tiny heads off
Eat they tiny feets
(One does what is right for ones species.)
:)
Palmer is whimpering again
kickngbird, I thought it looked like fur, too----she may have it turned over now!
I think Palmer can do fish OK, but things with shells or fur and skin are too advanced for her skill level.
Lynn, enjoy the pizza party.
Shirley, just when you needed your camera! What fun that would be to watch.
Off to review some VHS tapes for conversion to DVDs. Want to make sure I have commercials edited out from tapes of t.v. programs recorded.
Um, confused -- isn't Jim just 19 years old? LOL Happy Birthday, again.
When she looks up, I wonder if parent is on a branch up there
Such an adolescent - needs help but doesn't want to admit it
lol Palmer pulled soooo hard at it that I thought she was going to go backwards out of the nest!
I think she has the hang of it now
A mature adult knows to do that ferocious twisting head motion that rips more efficiently than the straight back pulling that Palmer is doing - that works on a softer fish body but not on tougher meat.
The look up and whimper again!
It's hard work when your technique is inefficient. She's expending a lot of energy to get this food into her. It's part of the learning process, but she has to get better at this before she'll be ready to be on her own.
Just received Germany Gang's pics
BBL
Palmer's either given up or she got all the meat out and all that's left is a tiny fur rug.
:)
Over by the cam now.
Yum, free lunch today...fried chicken, rolls, coleslaw, beans, mac salad
Jo, it's Watson's fried chicken :)
Time to get ready---gotta be out of here in about an hour. Later, gators!
Just read back Wanda so glad GG gave you that phone call. Prayers for GG.
She really does sound like a little puppy! Weather underground says it is 86 not 65° at the nest.
I had to delete a double post...
There is the Spill Cam (Oil Tracker) at the very bottom of our home page...... Way far down...
Very interesting and devastating to see those figures.....
Need to clear my table in order to have some family for dinner.
BBL
Loon is off the nest - both eggs in tact......
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JIM & to Lynn's JENN!!!
Happy Memeorial Day to Everyone!!
Gotta open Firefox, I guess, to see Palmer. IE had been working, but not right now!
Have not read back on the blog, but just in case...this was put on fb.
Lily the Black Bear May 31, 2010 - 11:55 AM CST
This morning's visit to Lily and Hope went well. Hope was eager for the 'formula' we brought so she's likely not getting enough milk yet from Lily. However, she's still nursing and getting at least some milk from Lily. This bodes well for the future. Hopefully things will be back to normal soon. -- SM
See Palmer from shoulders back~~up against the tree & pulling on some food, I guess.
Through in the yard for today. It is presently 91. Yuk! Going to clean up now and Jack and I are heading to Fort Worth. Going to Central Mkt to get meat that we can not get at local grocery stores.
Going to exercise those wings a little.....
BBL
Hi,
Flash has gone home. There was a happy greeting. Tom, Kathryn, and Hunter stayed briefly, then headed home to get things ready for another week of work and school.
I have finished all of the papers! But there are two rejects in this class. Those two will have to fix their papers if they want passing grades.
Going to take care of some chores now. I need to get ready for another week of work myself.
BBL.
Palmer is standing by the tree.
Jo, you have wings to exercise?
Shirley - YAY, papers are done!
See ya'll later, heading to the crab feast!
Hi, Everyone,
HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY!!
and HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JIM!!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY JIM!!!
Happy birthday, Jenn.
Sounds like a parent landed up above, and Palmer whined and looked up
Shirley, glad you finished grading papers. Such a task. Oh sorry your boy toy isn't there. Ah, perhaps to rest a bit.
Lolly, glad you have yard work done but please be careful in that heat. Enjoy the visit to Fort Worth.
Enjoy the crab feast, Paula.
Andy, so many different birds. I need to start a list and look them up. Flowers sound lovely.
sounds like Palmer is crying.
poor baby.
I see there's another b-day,
happy, happy Jenn.
Jim, Semper Fi and Thank You. 2 of our kids were Marines.
Geez, it's 4:54 PM and our parade is to start at 5, BUT, it's raining. I'm at my window and on my chair and watching the rain drops and listening to the thunder.
we've been here 41 years and only once was the parade cancelled. Maybe this will be the second?
bbl
Palmer eating something - this time a little more twisting of the head when tearing at it, which is much more efficient than when I watched the earlier meal (the straight back pulling wasn't working so well on the tough meat). I think there is some learning/maturing going on!
But come back from the edge, OK Palmer?
Brought whatever's left right under the cam - that's not much better...
Can't you please eat it in the middle of the nest?
Back home! Tonight kabobs on the grill, a new recipe with sausage and shrimp. We also got some salmon that was on sale for tomorrow night on the grill.
I am getting hungry.
Meal's over. Wingersizing.
Hello. Home again. Great report on Ch. 9 news about the cams at the nat'l. zoo!!!!
Oh, Lynn! Thank goodness they have it!
Memorial Day's picnic with the whole family in the nest!
Whoo Hoo
Saw a shadow pass over the nest. Maybe a parent?
Well, make this the second year the parade was cancelled. we had terrible storms with hail, wind, and lots and lots of rain!! We were even on the weater channel's report. I also have a flooded laundry room. can't do anything until Jim and youngest get home.
getting supper .... bbl (I hope)

Adult with Palmer
I think it is Belle
Parent has arrived at the nest. I thought there was food, but I am not sure.
Maybe no food. Lots of complaints from Palmer.
I am going to try to finish up my written response to an educational article tonight. I am having trouble relaxing because it is on my mind.
Sorry about the parade Diann but sorrier about your laundry room!
Palmer is getting fed. Impatient child.
I guess there were some nestovers lying around.
Diann, it rained on your parade. Boo-hiss! Too bad you have a mess to deal with.
Lolly, that's a shame about the necklace. But hopefully they learned a lesson about locking things up!
Absolutely NO rain here. No sun all day, but no rain.
Yes, Diann, sorry about the laundry room.
lol Really looked as thought Palmer helped Belle out of the nest!
Spidey has started ------ another day soon to end.......
Diann sorry about the parade being cancelled but more sorry about your laudry room.
Thank God for leftovers!!!!
Lolly that was nice of him to buy you another necklace. Did you ever get the little charm put on it?
Lynn1-Hedgie glad they LOCKED your camera up.
Palmer is up around 1:00 position with feet facing in towards nest...
Wow, Palmer gave me a start. Took a minute to see her up on the rail. Thought for a moment she might have branched.
Diann, so sorry about the parade being canceled but even more sorry about the laundry room. Hope that gets fixed soon.
Lynn, glad the camera was apprehended and put in lockup for the night.
Dinner leftovers done and mac salad made for tomorrow night's pot luck for our District's police and neighborhood watch coordinators.
Tired so going to do a Mema Jo and put my feets up. BBL
Be sure to come back to say Good Night
Just lost power for a short second but everything went down. The humidity out there is quite horrible.
Going to take a break but will be back as long as I have power........
BBL
I hear thunder far off so I'm shutting down now.
Prayers for those that need them and travel safety for those traveling.
Rain all around us...not a drop here:(
Gardens are so dry.
Dana, send that storm up my way!
I may do a rain dance before I go to bed tonight...hope Megan will join me;)
Well, I wrote an essay. It is not particularly long, but it is written. Pulled something off the stuff I wrote for my class this spring and adjusted it. I am "plumb wore out" with reading and writing serious stuff at this point.
Couldn't send it in though. The link to the school was taking so long I think it is down right now.
Just finished reading the Hope/Lily update from last night. It sounds encouraging.
Time to get ready for tomorrow. Have a good night, everybody.
Good Night Shirley
If you aren't on Facebook....here's Sissy's news: she slipped and fell in the rain on the camper steps.....bummed her bum and arm. X-rays okay....just bruising.
Should have added: prayers going up that Sissy won't be TOO sore tomorrow, and thanks that she didn't have any fractures or lacerations!
Howdy, all.
Had a great time with family eating crabs! Yummy!
Hope ya'll had a nice day!
Not a drop here, but it's humid!
Hope you ate a few crabs for me, Paula! Yum for sure!!!
We don't have any drops of rain here in the valley - So humid you can cut it with a knife!
It is time to head back hallway
Good Night to All
Prayers for All
(((hugs for all)) ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
Ah Jo, back to say goodnight.
I do see the lightening bugs
Hi, Everyone!
I remember Anne Marie saying she had never seen lightening bugs. I find it hard to understand that there are no lightening bugs in California.
Posted on FB just a little while ago. Can hardly wait to hear!
Lily the Black BearMay 31, 2010 - 10:40 PM CDT
Tonight there will be 2 updates -- the one Lynn wrote earlier this evening and one I will write about the drama that occurred during this evenings visit to Lily and Hope. First will be posted soon. -- SM
Was reading the comments on Lily's page on FB. The "fans" there were having a ball tonight. They were having a wild time with their comments. Maybe punch drunk? LOL
Just checked our weather forecast, and it doesn't look very promising for rain, anytime soon:(
OK...raindance coming right up...join me Megan.
GOOD NIGHT MY FRIENDS
PRAYERS FOR ALL
First Hope report is in...it is great!
Goat’s Milk Galore
It's June,
thanks Jo for the new Momsters Photo Album...you are right on the ball! I loved the last several pictures you posted, especially the Memorial Day Picnic !
Wanda glad to hear Dustin's ankle has healed so that he can help with the mowing, love the Dustin tales, always have ♥
Congratulations to Blackwater and especially Lisa...on the first Osprey chick of this nesting season !
sorry to hear the parade was canceled Diann
big disappointment for the paraders and the parade-watchers for sure :(
hope it can be rescheduled...
soon....
Lynn Woof about the Hot Hut and forgetting your camera, glad it was still a nice party and that your camera is in safe hands!
and to everyone else, so nice to hear of what your day was all about
Hope everyone is doing okay...
I'ze tarred, long but fun day with James and his other maternal grandmother and friends...
Good Night
God Bless Us, Every One
xo ♥
oh, and thanks for the Hope and Lily reports, and hoping that Sissy will be okay after her slip and tumble and boo boo
Second update....not good. Think I may give up on bears and stick with eagles. Prayers for Hope and Lily.
Update II - May 31, 2010 – 11:20 PM CDTShare. Yesterday at 11:49pm
Drama in the Woods
Nite all!
Oh dear Lolly...I just read your last post....
tough news, but thanks for letting us know...
It's a beautiful West Virginia morning, and
Palmer is still in the nest
Happy New Month, turn those calendar pages over...
Have a good day everyone
xo
Good morning, everyone.
The Lily and Hope saga continues. Would be nice if other bears, including grandma, would go away for awhile.
Going to check on Palmer. Was quiet a few minutes ago.
Later
WOW some long early comments on here this Tuesday Morning in Eagle Land.
Good Morning have to try and read while I eat. Dr. appt this am'er.
I was looking for Megan wanted to know if OK TO PLANT THE CARDINAL VINE IN A LARGE POT FOR ON THE PORCH AND HOW LARGE OF A POT???
IF MEGAN COMES ON TELL HER TO CALL MY PHONE. I LEFT A CALL ON HER'S.
GOOD MORNING...
What distressing news about Lily and Hope from late last night (as reported by Lolly).
This morning's report is even more distressing. Can we take anymore of this REAL LIFE DRAMA!?
FROM FACEBOOK:
Lily the Black Bear June 1, 2010 - 7:30 AM
I returned to the tree Hope was in last night -- but she is no longer there. Hope has gone missing again. Hopefully she will remain in the general area so we can find her. -- SM
Good morning! On fb...Hope was not in the tree this morning, she is missing once again. This is more than I can handle.
Palmer, in the meantime, has just been delivered food!
It is still fresh, a flopping fishy!
Palmer is pecking at it, but not really digging in. Come on Palmer, you can do it!
Palmer is finally slowing getting some good bites.
Palmer has left the fish and taken refuge beside the tree trunk. That's OK Palmer, I don't like catfish either!
Good Morning, Lolly...I guess we'll have to wait til tonight to get another report on the Drama of Lily and Hope:(
Time to get outta here...
Yuck-yuck!!
Oh, Dana, in case you don't hear from Megan, I would say to go on and plant your flower in the large pot...just be careful not to overwater:)
I think Palmer is telling a parent to come feed her. She gave up on the fish and is at the base of the tree whining.
Parent back. Let's see what happens.
Parent is tearing into the fish and Palmer is staying right under the cam fussing loudly.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY DUSTIN. You have a wonderful grandmom and grandpop and great grandmom
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO LYNN'S SISTER.
Thanks, Ceil. Her name is Gail!
Well, Christie was released for today---defendant didn't show up. Rescheduled for tomorrow! So we are hooking up for lunch since we both have some errands in Mtsbg.
