Good morning, Margy! Had to go take a look at the turtle shells. You are right, great view of the two.
Expecting Laurel and the boys this morning. She is coming to pick up some air mattresses and we are going to go swimming. I need to check out Jacob's new skills in the water. She and the boys are going to Houston and Galveston this Friday. Going to visit her college buds.
Not me Shirley.... I'm watering plants...sort of...
while digging in the dirt yesterday I discovered a rather large colony of Earwigs! Yuck! Sprayed them good but think I contaminated the soil for one little garden plot :(
It will just be a weekend trip. We are leaving on Friday and will come back Sunday. I tried to talk Kathryn into staying another day, but she doesn't feel like she can do that.
Morning Lolly might be another turtle shell around 4 pm...hard to keep up with where they end up... sounds like it is being a really fun summer for Laurel and the boys and YOU... wish it would last forever !
Shirley maybe Kathryn will change her mind ☺
got to shake rattle and roll here
Hope everyone is doing okay..some of the regular morning people have not made an appearance yet.... and Good Morning in Advance to more Morning Eagle Pals...
Too bad you can not stay longer but weekend trips are fun. Laurel is leaving Friday returning Tuesday and she is visiting three different friends a different bed each night except the last two nights are at the same house.
Margy!!!!! There is some of that growing in one of the gardens at Irvine and I think that's what it is!!
Shirley, you are going to have blast on your trip, while the glow over Maryland gets greener! So cool you can take the dogs, too.
Getting ready to head out to take the turtle to the vet. They will keep her and get her all fixed up and hopefully be able to release her back into the wild again....FAR away from traffic. I can't even imagine how many turtles get hurt or killed crossing roads. This is the second one on our road we've seen, the other was last weekend and we got him safely to the other side before he got hit.
Judie...been thinking and that can be dangerous. You should write a "special" for as the nest turns for the open house. We always enjoy some good laughs!
That is a great Turtle Rescue story Lynne.... hope everything turns out okay..so cool that Steve is involved at Irvine too... and sure hope the hiring comes along soon, this place is so YOU !
I sometimes think I need a bumper sticker for :
I brake for butterflies and roadside wildflowers...
Susan tells a story about getting out of the car to save a turtle on the road. As I recall, it was a large snapping turtle, and she had to drag it while it was snapping at her. Probably a good thing I wasn't there!
BBL. Gotta run out and finish planting the butterfly bush. Got tired of waiting for Will. Yesterday, I got the ground good and wet so it was soft. I dug a pretty good hole, but it was pretty hot, so I decided to wait until this morning to finish.
Good Monday morning to all you Momsters and Dadsters. Partly cloudy here...pleasant temps so far--mid 70's. Had a really rough night with leg cramps....guess muscle relaxant let me sleep late---til 9AM!! Very rare for me to stay in that late. Sweet Mits just called to check on me!!
OH geez, snappers are the worst to find on the road. I've had the pleasure TWICE. There is a big pond down over the hill here and both times, I figured that is where they came from. What I didn't know then, but know now is, when female snappers are ready to lay eggs, they move away from the pond and will travel up to 2 miles to do so. Well. Silly ME. So when I picked them up, the first one with my bare hands (my back was in much better shape back then) and the second I bullied into a box for easier carrying, I took them BACK to the pond! Probably made them very angry!! Not sure if same one both times (a couple of years apart) but they were big, front of shell to back just a bit larger that my size 11 shoes.
P.S.....Snapping turtles smell really bad like and old stagnant pond, are slippery with algae growth, heavy, and they strike at you VERY, VERY FAST, even when you are standing behind them.
Poor Susan...I can totally imagine what a struggle it must have been to get that snapper off of the road! I sure hope she managed to get the job done without getting hurt!
that's the Momster Spirit at its best Hedgie....glad Mits found you this morning ☺ hope you feel better soon....was afraid Frontier had clobbered your computer again!
Lynne ...will check out those bumper sticker links a little later on....I'm still just a wee bit cautious about going too far afield on the links...
BRENTWOOD, N.H. (AP) - A New Hampshire couple says a 25-pound pet tortoise has reappeared four years after escaping from its pen.
Mike and Christine Wellington say their African spur thigh tortoise named Lucy made off from their greenhouse business in Brentwood. But on Friday, the Wellingtons received a call from a neighbor half a mile up the road that Lucy had reappeared.
The Wellingtons say they're certain the tortoise is theirs because of the unusual protruding bumps on its back.
Mike Wellington says turtles of Lucy's species dig deep holes in the ground for protection in extreme weather. He says he supposes Lucy did just that to survive New Hampshire's winters the past four years.
Jul 12, 2010 - Three of the swift eggs hatched yesterday. At hatching the chicks are naked and unable to regulate their body temperature. Thus, the adults will brood the chicks almost continuously until they are about six days old.
Says they are strictly herbivores, so guess it wasn't hard to find food...but NH cold sounds harsh for a turtle that she says are warm climate denizens!!
Finished planting the first butterfly bush. I dug the hole partway yesterday and filled it with water a couple of times to soften the ground. Now I am watering the bush. We really do need more rain. I have another bush that needs planting. I think I will plant it on the bank in the backyard. I the bank needs attention.
Good Monday Morning Everyone! Hi Jim! Lots of good information and news on these morning comments. Margy already posted the reply from Steve which is the same as mine this morning - but since we split I will post it again on this page for you..."Thanks. They are doing maintenance in the Production building and unfortunately the card for the still cam is part of that work. They're working on it. Steve
My live feed is working great!
All this turtle talk .. I said I would try to find the video of the aggressive turtle to the cat but a new video is on FB this morning that will suffice. This is a loving little guy.... lol
To clarify about my internet situation: after reading Paula's post of Weds.last-----switch is FROM Verizon TO Frontier (take-over, not my choice!). Phone was fine, except voicemail system was messed up; implied allegations that Verizon sabotaged system--?? Final story was that faulty A/C in substation caused mass outage. Not sure why that would only affect some and not all customers. They said we were connecting to them fine, but they weren't connecting to the World Wide Web. ARGH!
I see rain heading this way. Should get out and do some more planting. One more butterfly bush to go, and maybe I should plant my baby maple tree that I grew from a seed.
LOL....still responding to last week: Dana, Verizon is bye-bye in all of WV. Frontier is the only landline provider now. No Comcast for internet or TV in my development----and they said they will never run lines back here...go figure! 43 lots. Go figure.
Shirley - I envy you and I hope you and Kathryn & Hunter enjoy your stay. I tell you one thing - I would need at least a whole week there! Beautiful and I am thinking that "quaint" refers to the setting. Beautiful accommodations.
As I think I've said before, I have spent the better part of two summers in that area, but it was when I was in high school and college, so it was many years ago. It is a nice area.
SO nice reading about how you all missed me! Thank you each and every one! Fun times with all the blogger cop nonsense, typos (dorggy, etc.!) and all of the critter stories! Shirley, tell Kathryn I had the squirrel-in-the-woodstove story a couple of years ago! A bird, too. Now I keep chicken wire stuffed in the top of the chimney when it's not stove season!
Had heard all the sad animal stories on the news last week. Poor red panda, whale and Lab. Very sad on all fronts.....but hope they prosecute the dog owner to the max.
In honor of and appreciation for Megan... this picture on my avatar, is of my FIRST Megan Totem Tomato Plant...shortly after this picture was taken, well, I ate it! Was deeee-licious...

Rain or no rain, glad you sopped by Shirley.
Good morning, everyone.
Yes, see the ospreys are fledging. Will need to check often today and maybe catch a take off or landing.
Slept really late so now headed for coffee and newspaper. BBL

Lynne, we need bumber stickers that say "I brake for turtles".
I hear a Red Shoulder Hawk near the nest...
Beautiful picture at LOL with the blue sky and clouds reflected in the water.
And, I must say since Margy mentioned the morning people...I MISS NORMA, our very own ray of sunshine.
I do hear Miss Palmer.
That is a great Turtle Rescue story Lynne.... hope everything turns out okay..so cool that Steve is involved at Irvine too...

Susan tells a story about getting out of the car to save a turtle on the road. As I recall, it was a large snapping turtle, and she had to drag it while it was snapping at her. Probably a good thing I wasn't there!
They have them Lolly....here is one! LOL!

Oh, I like that Margy!
Like that, Lynne!
LOL We need "like" buttons on our blog.
DEFINITELY a RS hawk.
Margy, they have those too!

Isla is making a fuss---intruder near again maybe.
oh Shirley, so sorry you have to do it yourself, but glad you got enough rain so that the ground is soft.

Wow Mits, Great story! Wonder what kind of tortoise she is!
Speaking of which, time to head to the vet with the boxer.

African Spur thigh tortoise...says it right in the article...wish they had had a picture....:)
Just saw that story in the paper, Mits. Here's pic and info about the type of turtle:
Afr.SpurThigh
oh thanks, Lynn , it is a beauty....wonder what it ate being away all those years, and wonder if it will try to escape again.
Looks alot like one that someone posted pic of last week----Lolly? Loretta? Don't remember!!!

I have found a few earwigs in my house recently. Yuck!

Here's the place we are staying over the weekend. It is just too cute. We have reserved Cottage 8.
As Kathryn said, it's quaint.
looks great Shirley, you might have to purchase one of those pretty birdhouses.
Already thought about that, Mits. They are cute birdhouses.
Morning, all.
Hummingbird moth! I saw one on some of my flowers, too.
Lynne - you sure had a busy weekend! Hope the ear is feeling better.
cute bumperstickers
Margy, thanks for the update on the still cam from STeve.
And I agree, we need a new thread!

Place looks nice, Shirley. One of those rafting trips would be fun.
I mentioned the rafting trip to Kathryn. She wants to do the Ghost Town.
We went on a rafting trip in Colorado many years ago. I enjoyed it. It wasn't white water, just a calm adventure that we could take the children on.
I see rain heading this way. Should get out and do some more planting. One more butterfly bush to go, and maybe I should plant my baby maple tree that I grew from a seed.
Maybe we'll do both the ghost town and the rafting trip. Actually, Hunter is leery of ghostly things. We will see.
LOL....still responding to last week: Dana, Verizon is bye-bye in all of WV. Frontier is the only landline provider now. No Comcast for internet or TV in my development----and they said they will never run lines back here...go figure! 43 lots. Go figure.
I see at turtle shell at 10ish, a little into the nest from the tree trunk
Shirley - I envy you and I hope you and Kathryn & Hunter enjoy your stay.
I tell you one thing - I would need at least a whole week there! Beautiful and I am thinking that "quaint" refers to the setting. Beautiful accommodations.
Jo, I keep thinking it is a long drive to stay for such a short time, but Kathryn doesn't have but so much leave time.
As I think I've said before, I have spent the better part of two summers in that area, but it was when I was in high school and college, so it was many years ago. It is a nice area.
Shirley - you could see if Suz or Will or Russ could join you whenever Kathryn leaves. If not - you'll just need to force yourself to come home!
Shirley, looks like a nice place to get away to! When do you go?
Friday, Lynn.
Time for a BLT.
Well, shucks....I missed Tai's birthday.....belated greetings to our special panda boy.
Don't know what I just heard on our cam
Sure it wasn't our eagles...
Heard it again - maybe someone yelling??
Just logged on, Jo. I haven't heard anything yet.
WOW! My valley has a 70% chance of rain now. It is (only) 81°.
Then Wed on it is back up in the 90's.
Megan had said they were watering
day and night!
I haven't heard it again, Shirley.
Thanks for listening with me!
My Chasteberry bush has attracted many Japanese beetles. I don't want to spray. Guess I need to get one of those bag things.
The wind at the nest always fools me into thinking I am hearing Eagles' Wings!
The barefoot bandit's mother says she is proud of him. Goodness.
My crepe myrtle has bloomed.
Have to get ready for a doctor's appointment this afternoon. This is for the colitis. Just a regular check-up.
Here is hoping for a good report, Shirley.
Hedgie I hope no one does that to me! I might be so excited and drop the babe.
I need some lunch.......
Keep reading Lynn - you are almost up to date!
BBILW
Had heard all the sad animal stories on the news last week. Poor red panda, whale and Lab. Very sad on all fronts.....but hope they prosecute the dog owner to the max.
Oh, too bad that the rescued eagle taken to CRC did not survive. A lot wrong with that poor bird.
Butter and Eggs is out, anyone hungry?
forget it: it's a wildflower !
Shirley
You should see my collection of "Old Lady" garden tools...
and snow shovel, my back says it must be this way!
Be careful!
Megan...watering day and night, just like shoveling day and night last February
:(
The life of a Master Gardener...
Adult just flew in with late lunch...come on in, Palmer!
BOTH adults!
Really windy at nest......very cloudy here. Maybe rain coming?? Hope, hope.
In honor of and appreciation for Megan...
