Sunny Wednesday 28 June
Time to dry out here after alot of rain. Here's another entry from Bent on eagle plumage:
"In fresh juvenal plumage the young eagle is uniformly dark colored "bone brown" to "clove brown" above and below; the flight feathers are nearly black, but there is usually a slight sprinkling of grayish white in the tail. This plumage is worn throughout the first year without much change, except by wear and fading, the under parts fading to "hair brown." After the first annual molt, the next summer, the plumage becomes paler and much mixed with white in very variable amounts. Individual feathers on the back, scapulars, and breast are more or less extensively white, those of the breast and belly being largely white in some specimens. I am not sure whether this is a second or third year plumage, or both; if the latter, the third year is whiter than the second. The tail is more extensively mottled with white than in the first year, and the feathers of the crown and occiput are broadly tipped with pale buff.
After the next annual molt the plumage of the body becomes darker, much like that of the adult, but lightly tipped with white below and mottled with white on the rump and upper tail coverts; the latter and the tail are now quite extensively white; the head is mixed with white above, about half white and half brown, or nearly clear, dirty white below. This is probably the third year plumage. At the next annual molt, early in the fourth year, the bird assumes a plumage that is practically adult, with a pure-white head and tail; but usually remaining signs of immaturity are seen, such as a few brown feathers in the head and some dusky mottling near the tip of the tail. The length of time required to assume the fully adult plumage does not seem to have been positively determined, and it may take longer than I have estimated.
Adults and immature birds have one complete annual molt, which is very gradual, and prolonged through spring, summer, and fall. The flight feathers are molted mainly during July, August, and September."

Thanks for the new thread and the info Steve.
I can't frap with the camera like this! HELP somebody.
1 left in nest-looks like it's yelling at someone. flew-empty nest.
All gone...thanks for the new thread and the article on plummage..
Live-feed reminds me of comcast tv. Is that a bird in the nest or am I seeing things?
Good Morning!
What a beautiful day it is here...sunshine, blue sky, nice breeze...
Hope our babies are enjoying it!
All I see is Jo's turtle shells.
I hope someone is trying to fix this...giving me a headache..
Adult! Eaglet Mantling 2 eaglets
wooooooo their back..........
9:25 Parent and eaglets in nest - now 2 eaglets and no parent. And a tree limb it looks like! Tearing up trees to get in there!
Both trying to mantle breakfast,,,,we have a winner, one backed off
The Eagles has landed!! Both males, Mr Inbetween is mantling and eating.
Jim
What are they eating?
Yeah, it looks like Ms. InBetween and BigBoy!
Something big, Sharon! Can't quite tell if it is a really fat fish or something else
Does anybody else see the branch on the one at 11 o'clock?
I see it.
I am waiting for him to move so I can FRAP it!
I hope that it is not sticking into something or he is not hurt by it. A little greenery on the eaglet. Now it looks like the cam is frozen.
CRAP - NO FRAPPING WITH THIS.
I am grateful the branch came off. I got a little worried.
Must've been stuck in those big ol' talons
Must have been.
did we ever figure out what they are eating....looks like it is in big chunks now..
Big Boy still trying to steal some breakfast from Ms Inbetween
Lovely to see them both eating. Sure do wish Spunky was in there eating too!
Trying to make a steal! Ms. Inbetween has had enough. Time to share!
wow, looks like the cam is going to have some psychedelic moments today.
Big tug of war between the two a minute ago, looked like a frog?
I'm thinking the camera issues may be due to wet connections. Let's see if they get better as it dries out.
Ms Inbetween continuing to devore every last bit of that breakfast
Hmmmm, frog legs for breakfast?
That could be it, was really fat
POOR KERMIT..
Well. don't those 2 look FAT AND SASSY!!!
Suzanne, I think it was BigBoy who brought those leaves in on his wings.
I agree Mits, Poor KERMIT! Must have been a big old bull frog. Been eating for a long time. I frapped it stuck in his wings!
RIPPET RIPPET, SHARON YOU HAVE MAIL .
Good late morning out there in Eagleland! What a busy morning you all have had. Frogs,Turtles...oh,my!New leaves in soaked nest-how nice! The sunshine this morning is a welcomed sight to all, I'm sure! Maybe Spunky had breakfast out on a limb!
Morning, MEMA JO
Where is the panda now?
Mema Jo, the leaves were brought in on the wings of eagles!
Must be plumb tuckered out from an hour of eating!
They always seem to take off when the camera is blinking!
Just got those pretty psychedelic colors again. Flashback!
I NOTICED THAT YESTERDAY, EVERYTIME THERE IS ALOT OF ACTION IN THE NEST THE CAM GOES BERSERK, PERHAPS A LOOSE WIRE.....MOMMA PANDA IS IN THE GROTTO AND BABY PANDA IS UP THE TREE.
"Wings of eagles" - Love it!
I will be out of here for 2 hrs...Keep me posted..
MITS: What do you wish for the upcoming grandbaby to call you? Nana, Gamma, ??
Floralgirl: Bet all those beautiful flowers are reaching for the sun this morning!!
Steve: That was interesting info..& I'm thankful you told all that it probably was a frog.....!
Hope wv.galVicky feels better today & can blog a Hello to all of us.
Little Hugo is getting bigger & stronger.I hope he makes it! I always look in on him around midnight our time before I go to bed. TaTa
Hey all! Won't be around much today, lots to do... the dove that found it's way to my door is doing okay for now, it's just a matter of "wait-and-see" with healing bones...
Hugo the stork chick is doing so well! This morning he and a parent had "preen-a-palooza" together, and he was doing quite well balancing and stretching. Sometimes I notice he does have a little labored breathing, but doesn't seem weak like before. Plus, sick birds don't preen...
LOL... my miniature doxie, Amelia, is chasing some kind of bug through the grass -- it's soooo cute!!!
Have a good day, don't go cross-eyed looking at the funky cam!
Bird Girl
ARRRGGGHHH at the camera!
Thanks , Birdgirl, glad the dove is on the mend. Hugo does look like he is getting stronger.
Plan old Grandmom is fine with me, what ever that baby wants to call me is fine, just don't call me late for dinner.....:):):)
SHARON , did you get the stuff re: bald eagles at the zoo???
Bird Girl, you just won me over with the miniature doxie!! I love them. We have had dachshunds for years, starting out with the bigger ones and then going to minis. My sister has a red one and a black and tan longhaired and my mom has a red one!
Mits, yes I did. Thank you very much. I want to go!
How far away is Bluefield from Washinton D.C.???????????
Well it is 5 hours from here to Sheperdstown so I am thinking maybe 6 hours or so. I don't even know. Never been there!
Just went to Yahoo Maps (don't we just love Yahoo) and it says 5 hours to DC also.
MT Nest 12:l5 PM
Well now, SHARON , Things quiet down after Labor Day and D.C. is beautiful in the fall, no crowds, cheaper prices, maybe....
I love the new decor, sycamore leaves as a rug..
Reminds me of the lovely green carpet my grandmother used to have in her living room! Depending on where the food is delivered next, it could become a table cloth!
Mom and Baby panda are out and having a picnic lunch of Bamboo, if anyone wants to take a peek.
Sharon, the green rug to go along with the pyscidelic colors.
I just saw Tai Shan swing around the limb of the tree. That was too cute. This is what I need, soemthing else to watch!
Now, Mits, how cute is that!
Oh Mits, I am in trouble. I have just fell in love with a baby panda!
Baby gone, gone!
He is really entertaining and gives his moma fit. I fell in love with him the day he was born July 9th, 2005. He was 2oz. and 5 inches long. I watch them day and night and got to see him live back in January. Something else to watch waiting for the eaglets to come back. And now that you have taught me how to keep the eagle cam up, I can watch both at the same time.. NEAT!!!!!!!!!
SHARON THERE ARE 2 CAMS... HE IS INSIDE BY THE DOOR AND SHE JUST STEPPED OVER HIM TO GET IN.. THEY GIVE THEM THE OPTION OF EITHER BEING INSIDE OR OUT WHEN IT GETS HOT LIKE THIS.
I am having a hard time watching the nest, pandas and typing my work. I have figured out how to though! Where there is a will, there is a way!
SHARON, WONDER-WOMAN!!!
Oh yeah, 1:20 p.m. MT nest!
moma panda inside on cool rocks and baby is on the platform bed in the small den, cooling off, temp is around 90 degrees.
With the heat in the nest, do you think these turtles and frogs cook up. YUCK!!!
Doesn't the sunshine feel particularly wonderful today?Sounds like I missed a lot of action in the nest this morning.Glad the eaglets are getting food,it's much better hunting weather today.Mema Jo- my flowers are definitely reaching for the sun this morning, and looking better than ever! Mits sounds like a lot of DC is a real mess today with all the water problems. Our road into town is flooded where the Antietam creek came over it's banks. We were so lucky here, I ended up with very little damage to my plants and about 4 1/2" of rain.
Mits, I bet that nest is so stinky!!
Sharon, glad we don't have SMELL-A-COMPUTER...
Floralgirl, they are estimating between 10 and 12 inches these past few days and now with all the moisture in the ground, it is making very humid conditions and the possibility of thunderstorms later today.
Yea-I was just checking the radar, the last thing we need is a thunderstorm today. I feel lucky that we got under 5" of rain here, so many places got so much more.
My live-feed keeps freezing up and flashing, green, orange and red lights next to the nctc title, looks like it is on refresh mode.
Just enough to make the flowers sparkle, Floralgirl..
Mits, my live feed is doign the same thing.
OK ,guess I'm not gonna see any eagle visitors while I'm watching-lunch break over, back to work
Mits, It is updating every 10 seconds. Steve, Brad, John, do you all know what is happening?
My live feed seems ok..Leaves are blowing and there is a clear picture. Hope everyones' is doing the same.
Marie , they have been experiencing trouble with all the cams the last few days because of the weather. I'm on it right now. Baby up in the pinetree and Moma finishing up a fruitcicle outside. correction baby now down from the tree, trying to steal Mom's fruitcicle.
Your right Sharon every 10 seconds!!!
Okay, what do you reckon the problem is? Mine is updating every few seconds. The little arrow to the left of NCTC Eaglecam turns orange when it is getting ready to change.
Okay, Jo, what makes yours different?
MINE IS WORKING AGAIN...
I restarted mine for the 3rd time and it is now too! HMM, what do you reckon?
I reckon you just needed me!
But then it stopped again.
YEP, FREEZING AGAIN...........
On further investigation, the button turning orange has something to do with the connection and Net Health. Now it is turning red which means severe decrease in connection. BRB!
MINE KEPT TURNING FROM GREEN TO ORANGE TO RED AND NOW SCREEN IS BLACK.
I was restarting mine and it would be live for about 5 seconds and then freeze again. For the umpteenth time, I restarted it and it has been going for 1 minutes 20 seconds on live. Try restarting it Mits.
SCREEN BACK ON BUT IT LOOKS LIKE 30 SECOND INTERVALS NOW
Oh, yeah, I shut RealPlayer all the way down a couple of times too.
Mine has been going steady for about 4 minutes. I do not have a clue why!
MINE STILL HAS THE COLORED LIGHTS AND 10-15 SECOND INTERVALS.
Mine has been going for 1 1/2 hrs with all leaves moving. There has been some lines = but not that often. Live Eagle cam seems to be refreshing ok. Now that I have said that-watch it go haywire on me...... Hope the live feed stays up for you! Maybe around 4:30 there will be some action to get on fraps.........
Mits, did you try shutting down the Real Player and starting it all over again. If the little orange arrow comes up during loading, restart it again and again until it doesn't. Worked for me!
Mine has been going for about 20 minutes with the green indicator of leaves blowing (HA) moving at all times.
SHUT MY WHOLE COMPUTER DOWN, NOW BLACK SCREEN AGAIN...... MARIE , that is a perfect description of him puff-ball, I like that...He a very spoiled panda cub, but we love him.
will try that..........
My arrow is blinking orange again but it is still going!
Just finished checking on Hugo..he still whimpers like a little puppy. A small bird flew across the nest & the adult took after it with such speed I thought he was going over the side....
My arror is on green, but still 10 second intervals. I give up, need to go do some laundry..
Mits, maybe you have too much running at one time. I shut down all unnecessary programs that were running on line!
Hey Jo,
Hugo was really quite active and actually up tottering around most of the morning. Bet he's pooped! He's such a cutie!
Sandy: I saw him yesterday standing on half bent legs..He sure has grown over the past week.. Yes, he is cute!
Earlier today he was standing by the perent imitating everything it did...sctatchin it's nect, stretching. Pretty cute stuff.
Mema Jo, could you send me the link to Hugo?
3:29 p.m. MT nest. Beautiful green leaves blowing to the left of the camera and beautiful green leaves laying patiently in the middle of the nest.
Sharon, the only thing that was on was the blog-site and the eagle cam. Been on for 11+ mins, seems to be ok.
Is this Hugo?
http://www.storchennest.de/en/index_live-video.html
yep, that's it.
Yep! Sharon - that's him. Stochennest! Remember that there is sound. I click on the site from beakspeak but also have bookmarked it. MITS: Did I misunderstand you to say that you were going to OC for the remainder of the summer today?
New thread is up!!
