Shake, rattle and roll.....biggest earthquake ever recorded in the area! And I slept right through it. Centered in Germantown,MD under an elementary school. Called significant because felt in such large area: MD, DC, PA, WV,VA!
Deb, forgot last night to wish you a wonderful time on the Appalachian Trail! I am SO jealous! Can't wait to hear about it, and hopefully, see pictures. Enjoy!
Lynne, hope the job interview goes well! Sounds like you'd be perfect for the job!
Gosh, I hope the weather is a little better here today. Last night at 11:30 it was still 86! It's finally gotten down to the low 70s overnight, but promises to be humid again. Some kind of monsoon effect, or something. Yech! Jim, I hope it's somewhat better where you are!
Well, need to get some breakfast. Also could use some caffeine. Maybe ICED coffee! Will be back later, after sunrise. Have a good morning! :o]
Woke up out of a dead sleep, didn't feel too much shaking but some kind of movement. NOISE was the big thing. I sat straight up in bed and declared at the top of my lungs "WE JUST HAD AN EARTHQUAKE". Steve was already awake and felt/heard, too. He said NO WAY it must have been the dog....Puddles and Daisy are sometimes prone to leaning on the bed and scratching. When Puddles does it, her foot bangs on the floor and it's noisy on the hardwood floor. But I looked, and she was laying in her bed. Went back to sleep and at 6:30, the TV came on (we have a wake up feature on the TV) and sure enough, EARTHQUAKE!
No, Lynne, I'm not chuckling! Really! We have had far worse out here, but gosh, if that's the biggest one you've had in your area, that's pretty significant! Bet it was quite a surprise, all right!
It was pretty weird, for sure! Now I find myself hoping we have another little one during the day today so I'd be fully awake for the whole experience!
You got that right, Lynne. And Jim and Anne Marie can chuckle, too! People being interviewed also said it was the noise, not so much the movement, that they noticed.
Know what you mean about the noise--out here, if your house is on sandy soil, an earthquake can sound like a freight train coming through. You actually HEAR is before you feel it!
Just for fun, I Googled "Historic Earthquakes of Southern California". Try this website:
www.data.scec.org/clickmap.html
I find it interesting how many earthquakes happen in the early morning hours! Can remember being jolted awake many times.
A town just south of us has been experiencing mild quakes. They are wondering if it is related to all the gas drilling that is going on in the Barnett Shale. Scary thought! We have gas wells all around us!
Our young eagle has been flying around the nest area now since its first flight since on or around June 13th. While the bird has learned to fly, it has only started to learn to hunt, leaving it often times in the nest yelling to its parents for dinner.
Note the turtle shells in the nest. Turtles have been easy prey this season for the eagles and we have counted at least four shells (probably more) in the nest.
With its rudimentary hunting skills, the young eagle will soon head off away from its Shepherdstown home, not to be seen again in these parts. Our adults will very likely hang around for the rest of the summer, and in the Fall begin to tidy up the nest for the next nesting season.
Hooking up with my eldest for lunch and...time for me to get a new cell phone (I'm on her account), and need to get B-day presents for my youngest, who turns 35 on Monday! Golly, where do the years go???
Lynn, glad you got the income tax glitch worked out. Hate that stuff.
Lolly, are you sharing your apple desert that Jack likes better than apple pie?
Good morning, Jim.
How appropriate to have an earthquake in this area today. I think I told you all that 65 years ago this date the first A-bomb was tested. Yep, I sure can shake things up.
Lynne, good luck with the interview. Prayers for success!
Wishing Deb a fun camping trip.
Thank you for the birthday wishes. The thoughts are appreciated.
I think I am glad I worked overnight if 911 lines are down at work as Lynn mentioned :(
we got a few calls about the shaking, some thought it was an explosion...
mutual aid radios, Howard, Washington, Frederick counties, Maryland were talking to each other, Washington Co MD thought it was near Sharpsburg! Quite sure that means Megan and her family felt it !
WE didn't feel a thing at work...would have been neat to have experienced it I think
As Lynne2 mentioned...our callers referred to the sound, like a train, or C5 flying overhead, one lady thought her home was being broken into...some referred to the rattling of glasses and things in their homes
Good Morning - I am here and didn't feel any shaking around.. thank goodness. However, my gd just called from Germany to ask about it as gs stated on FB 5 hrs ago that he felt it and that is about as close to the nest as you're going to get over in Shphs'twn.
GOOD MORNING... I was awakened around 5ish by the sound of a train and wondered why it sounded so different this time. Now I know! I didn't feel anything or hear anything rattle. I guess earthquakes and tornadoes can happen ANYWHERE!
This morning, when the area got a wake up call in the form of a small earthquake, Washingtonians turned, as all citizens do at times like these, to the federal government for answers.
Jessica Sigala, a geophysicist with the U.S. Geological Survey in Denver, told Federal News Radio she was on duty, just like every day, when the quake hit.
"We are staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week. There is somebody here all the time. So when an earthquake happens we are able to locate it and figure out how big it is magnitude-wise pretty quickly, because we're here and so we know it happens right away."
Within minutes, the USGS determined this morning's quake was a magnitude 3.6 and was located at 39.167°N, 77.252°W, or near Gaithersburg, Maryland and was 3.1 miles below ground.
The numbers don't tell the whole story, said Sigala. Within minutes of the quake, people as far away as Pennsylvania and West Virginia reported feeling the quake on the U.S. Geological Survey's website.
Sigala explained that a 3.6 quake may feel very different on the east coast than on the west. The reason, she said, is "bedrock is way different" on each coast. The west coast, with its mountains, has a lot of bedrock to absorb the shock. On the east coast, said Sigala "you don't have that. When something shakes, it goes everywhere, so we're seeing it being felt pretty much all over Maryland."
Cool comments about everyone's experiences---or not---with the tremblor!!! Time to get ready to head out. See you fine fowl friends later this afternoon! Stay cool! BTW----Suz was on the interstate---didn't feel anything, but heard DJ's talking about it on the radio.
Taking a short break. My house is soooo clean!☺ Now I am getting ready to bake. Apple slices here I come...first to get Jack to use the apple peeler and peel me some Granny Smith's. Yeah, it is for his birthday, but he still gets to be the official apple peeler. heh heh!
Laurel texted and then I called her. They are 3 hours down the road on the way to Houston. She and boys had stopped for lunch at Mickie D's. Gave the boys a chance to play, too. She is supposed to call her Mommy and her jubby when she gets there. ☺
Had a Japanese girl stay with us a week one time. Still communicate with her. She called McDonalds Maca do naldos. Tried to teach her the correct pronunciation but her way was so cute!
Not good news here today. DIL is in the hospital with a herniated disk...she's been in pain for several days, so bad that she hasn't been able to lay down for an MRI. They finally gave her some morphine and did the MRI and got the results. They are talking surgery.
Stopping by the hospital after work to see her. Talking to son later to see what to do about the kids...he can't take off all the time that is needed from work, hope I can help him find a solution.
Everyone is busy or taking a Panda nap!☺ Apple slices about to come out of the oven and then I go and make repairs on myself.
Jack called me out to his shop to see his project. ☺ It is fantabulous!
Laurel just called. She is in Houston. First college friend to visit is Bobbi. She is 1/2 taller than Joseph. lol So glad she is having this weekend.
Tomorrow Michael, Ash, and Zach will be here to take us to lunch. Then we leave for a wedding at 4:30. Busy day tomorrow, but tonight a great evening with good friends.
sorry to read about your daughter in law, the discomfort she must be in. lots of herniated disc people on here (myself included) ....hope there is an alternative to surgery.... from an incident? or just lots of years of doing mother's work and carrying babies Prayers for a good outcome.... swift...and workable....
Hello! Back again the same day. Good lunch, new phone---the better to hear you with, I hope, since the audio on the old one was awful!---, birthday presents for Christie, making for a Peanut Butter cake, and a very embarrassed psyche. At the store, someone said hello; I looked at him and started to say...sorry, I know the face but can't recall your name...when I realized it was my ex!!!! Boy, has he aged! Not well, I might say. But it was embarrassing---shame on me!
Paula, so sorry about DIL and the herniated disc. I will share quickly my thoughts. If surgery, try to get a neurosurgeon not a general surgeon. My surgery was scheduled for 12 noon at GWU hospital. Treated with great care and dignity. Was home eating dinner at 6:30pm. Tiny incision which was superglued. Slept quite a bit for about 3 days (meds). I hope you are able to work out care for the grandkids. Wish I were closer.
Wow, it's been quiet on here this afternoon. Paula, so sorry about Ajay. That really sounds dire if they are talking surgery. Always a last resort....poor girl. Wish I was closer to help out with the kids. Prayers going up.
Lolly, when is Jack's b-day?
Mits, right after I logged off I heard someone say that quakes east of the Rockies are always more widely-felt, and that explanation makes perfect sense.
Judie, have always heard that animals sense catastrophic events in advance.
One aftershock recorded already; two other tremors today: Memphis area and on NC/SC border. There was also a 2.0 in Barnesville, MD about 20 mins. after the 1st one. Aftershocks likely, but probability decreases as weekend goes on, but possible too that there could be a larger quake! Hang on tight!
OK, back from Irvine....no more quakes to be felt. However, as I have been mentioning over the last couple of weeks, there have been several more small quakes in Arkansas, Missouri and Tennesse. And a 1.3 in North Carolina this morning....AND another here about 5 miles from Germantown at 9:17am this morning too!
Hi, Gang, Back again for a short while between bouts of attempted housework. VERY hot here again today. About 96, and it still feels VERY humid. More of the same due tomorrow, with some relief from the heat predicted to start on Sunday.
Paula, so VERY sorry to hear of your DIL's herniated disk! Phew, those are SO painful! Hope they're able to work out the childcare issues, and that surgery goes well. BTW, hope your ear straightens out soon, too! If it doesn't, I'd go back and bug the Dr., if I were you!
Judie, love your earthquake story! I can remember when I was about 9 years old, and parents and I and our extremely tame pet budgie were living in San Mateo, just south of San Francisco. There was a time when we had a fair-sized quake, with DAYS of aftershocks. Every time an earthquake was about to hit, our budgie would totally panic, and try to fly around inside his cage, which was too small for a very long flight. Result was, he'd end up flapping and flopping all over the cage, about 15-20 seconds before each earthquake started. His flight feathers and tail feathers got so frazzled, we ended up letting him stay out of his cage, on his little birdie "playpen", which had several perches, ladders, toys, bells and mirrors on it. It was on a card table in my bedroom. Then, when an aftershock happened, he would fly all over the apartment in a panic! Thoroughly traumatized the poor guy, but he lived for about 10 more happy years after that, finally dying of old age. He survived a move to Southern Calif., in his cage, in the car, too. Quite the little traveler! Still miss him--he talked constantly, preferred to walk on the floor, rather than fly around. A real character! Good old Tweetie.
Paula, prayers that your DIL will have some pain relief while they're working out the details. I agree with Judie, too, and would go with a neurosurgeon, rather than a general surgeon. JMHO.
wow Paula, sorry to read of your DIL's herniated disc. Must be really pushing on her nerve. I got lucky when mine herniated (sort of lucky) because I was scheduled for surgery...could barely walk, it was 2 weeks before Christmas, driving nearly impossible. Surgery was scheduled for the 28th right after Christmas. Then just 3 days before Christmas and just less than a week before surgery, I woke up and everything was pretty much fine! My own Christmas Miracle! Back for another MRI, disc had broken apart and no more pressure on nerve. Of course, no more disc, either so now I have L5 and S1 rubbing and grinding all the time, but oh well! There are quite a few different ways they can handle this surgically depending on which disc, etc. I hope it's not so bad that they have to remove the whole thing so she won't end up having a fusion. But must be dealt with because there is a serious risk of perm. nerve damage if not. What a rotten thing to happen, especially with a new baby. UGH, like everyone else, if I just lived closer I could help out. I'll pray VERY hard that this will be worked out quickly. Afterwards, she'll feel like a new woman!!
Lynn Jack on the 17th and we have Diane F, Vicky, and Pammy Sue coming up this month also! and then I have to recheck my birthday email to make sure I haven't missed any others...
have to go to work to fix some teletype computer...wonder what that's all about
Hello Shirley !
back later on ttfn xox
earthquake stories are interesting and informative
Happy Birthday Evening Judie
funny almost-CRS story Lynn.... sounds like you are "aging" much more beautifully than HE.
how's the weather there Shirley!! Glad you got there safely!
Judie, I don't know if it was somehow related to the coming quake or not, but the dog were VERY hyper last night, much more so than usual. But they also didn't get a run yesterday morning so I just blew it off to that.
Cool story about your Teetie Andy! Sorry that you've seemingly gotten some of the type of weather we are having here. I call it the "Maryzon" like the Maryland version of the Amazon heat and humidity. It's oppressive. BUT, it's not SNOW!!!
Jack's birthday is tomorrow, but he gets his apple slices tonight. Think I will stick a candle in it! Michael wanted to see his Dad on his birthday, so they are coming to take us to lunch.
I had a miracle about my back, too. Had tried many things, including anti-inflammatories, nothing worked. Had many tests and was heading towards surgery. When...my ankle started swelling...big time. They put me on an anti -inflammatory for it. Went to the meeting with the back doctor, this was the meeting to schelule surgery. I told him "Let me ask you this" and told him about my ankle, the meds, and the fact that my back was not hurting. He said "No pain, no surgery". Funny thing..the last MRI I had they said my back was fine...but at one time I was being scheduled for surgery. Never knew what caused my ankle to swell but it saved me from back surgery. Well, the meds for my ankle did!
Jack's b-day is the 17th - tomorrow. I had that special Dadster on the July b-day list.
I will keep AJay in prayers for the back ailment & possible surgery. So many of my family (Men & Women) have had surgery with all very good results. Hope you can resolve the child care issues.
Lynn Shame on you! ROFLMBO
Hi Shirley I can read you loud and clear! Who is cooking dinner?
For you Mits: Ocean City, MD - The Official Page The National Aquarium in Baltimore and its Marine Rescue Program team counted 117 dolphins in Ocean City, MD today. Flipper would be so proud!
Report on Phoenix...............................Friday July 15, 15:55 nest time.
I have had a report from Maj Birch of Mountainaire Avian Rescue about her check up on the condition of Phoenix. First of all, Phoenix is getting treated as an international celebrity. Phoenix has now been sent to Vancouver (by special helicopter) and has been met in person by the head Provincial animal pathologist who will handle the necropsy herself to determine cause of death. Maj has been overwhelmed by the response of people around the world. She has never experienced anything like it. Her report will be made to ajl who will make it know when it is received. Later, another report will be made by the provincial animal pathologist.
Lynn, I thought Carolyn was the youngest when you said.....and need to get B-day presents for my youngest, who turns 35 on Monday! Don't tell Christy! lol I have not ever met Carolyn to see if I could tell the difference of ages.
Nothing on TV this even.... I have my taped Royal Pains to watch from last night and........ I just might watch Shrek the Third !
Lolly - on July 2 you gave us the clue of "wood" as to what Jack was making for this year's Open House Raffle. Today you saw the item & commented "Fantabulous". I think you will agree with me that the word isn't an actual clue. We have 3 months to go so could you maybe give us another descriptive clue.... maybe like a dimension - height?
I remember how beautiful Jack's item was that Lynn took home! He has superb craftsmanship...
I am posting some of what Doug says because I think his statements are interesting.
I sure hope you don't mind.
dougcarrick: (16:49) I don't think this nest will be used by their children or by any other eagles (after they have passed on). Many nests have been abandoned for various reasons but I haven't observed any such nest being taken over by other eagles. All new eagles seem to prefer to build their own nsts from the start.
I have had the Hornby site up most of the day interested to see the adults return. Last year they lost little Echo by accident but they were back again this year. Hopefully they will return for the next season.
Their donations are going to MARS... I am so interested in the results of the necropsy because Phoenix looked like he was about ready to take flight!
Here is some useless trivia. Flipper was played by a female dolphin named Mitzi. I read this somewhere as a young kid. Then I made myself an invisible dolphin friend nameded Mitzi who swam with me in the pool.
Jo, you'll have to let me know how Shrek 3 is! I LOVE SHREK! I have an invisible pet ogre named Shrek. LOL!
I would say Doug is all heart when it comes to these eagles.
dougcarrick: (17:06) I just looked outside. Dad is still up in the Peters' Tree , mom is gone and the fish head is gone ... all proving nothing in a scientific sense.
Dana just sent email over Momsters. I think Lynn had called her the other day and she was in a lot of pain. Dr gave her some Pain meds and I think she is scheduled for MRI. Check you email.....
Interesting observations by Doug. They are all so good with updates of info. The fact that Phoenix was having what appeared to be trouble breathing makes me think maybe a respiratory infection of some kind.
Jo, Carolyn is the oldest at almost 38 (Oct.). Christie is the "baby"! Carolyn is quite heavy and has kind of a baby face. Check my Lair for my b-day pics '09 to see both of them!
Hello Eagle Buddies!!! Change of plans. Out trip was canceled. Hubby decided that the over 90 degree heat was not a good time to be hiking. If we younger okay, but we aren't spring chickens anymore. Our concern is the water factor. With this hot and humid weather we would not have the proper water supply. Unless we had a donkey with water barrels. LOL Sooo, I am in my own bed tonight with AC. Oh and I get to take a shower to boot.
Finney nest is stuck at 0336, Finland is okay, daylight coming on both nests, but not advancing at Finney. Also it appears that both adults are in the view at Finney's
Happy to announce, my baseball and softball sized tomatoes are beginning to pink up
Wow, an earthquake. What is going on with our east coast. Please that there were no bad incidents.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY JUDIE. TWENTY NINE IS SUCH A WONDERFUL AGE. YOUR GOING TO LOVE IT. Hope your day is all you want it to be and more.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY JACK. ENJOY THE APPLE PIE. I also hope you day is all you want it to be and more.
Paula, I will pray for your DIL. I know the pain she is in. I hope they give her good pain meds and give her more time to think about all options. I hope she can see a neurosurgeon. I will pray for all concerns and family.
Ragdoll, kinda glad you aren't going after all this weekend. Really the worst kind of weather for hiking. Way too humid! What part of the App. Trial were you heading for?
We have some special trails that we are real familiar with. In the Bigelow Perserve area. Just before Mt. Katahdin which is the beginning or the end of the App. Trail in Maine.
My hubby and I are members of the App. trail. We haven't done this in about five years, but we (with friends) would hike up North and South Crocker Mountain with chainsaws and loppers and clear that section of the trail for the thru hikers. Would do this in May.
Deb, I think you all made a wise decision. Don't know what it's like up there, but dryness also causes the snakes to be more active in search of water! So better all the way around that you postpone!!
Deb, the Trail goes through Harpers' Ferry and then crosses the mountain just to the east of CharlesTown, WV (also crosses Interstate 70 in MD not TOO far from Mema Jo!)and H.F. and CharlesTown are next to Shepherdstown where the nest is! (All in Jefferson Co., WV). My daughter lives in a small municipality there, too. I'm about 30 miles NW in Hedgesville.
Prayers being sent up for Dana....she gives and gives, God Bless her in giving us the chance to share in her cares, and add her needs to our powerful prayer efforts
That was last year in May. I had just started watching the nest in April. I could of seen Hidey. I was just reading the blog at the time. I just join you all in Feb. of this year.
Did you see the stick stuck in Hope's collar when they were leaving the ant tree??? After watching Lily pull down those trees, I'm beginning to wonder about the young saplings that look knocked over behind my lot--three of them are uprooted, right in a row.Maybe my bear IS back!
Sweet tooth time......Double stuff cookies......soooo good, but very bad. I usually don't have them in the house, but bought them for quick energy for hiking. Somebody has to eat them now.
Sorry your hiking trip has to be delayed, Deb. Probably a good idea though because the weekend weather is supposed to be awful.
Yes, 29 should be a really good year -- if I could remember it.
Goodnight, Margy.
Lynne, never knew such a wasp existed. Interesting, to say the least.
Prayers for Dana, Karen, Kailey, Ajay, and all others in need.
Lynn, what a treat that would be to have the bear return. Hope so.
Really nice video of Lily and Hope. So enjoy the updates and videos provided.
Shirley, glad you arrived at your vacation spot and were able to connect to the blog. Keep us updated when you have a minute.
Not a drop of rain here. Not a drop in humidity, either.
Where's Loweeda? How's GG?
Finally, thank you everyone for the birthday cards and wishes. Sure made for a very special day.
Turning my light off but will leave the night light on for JACK to come through the door for his birthday without stumbling in the dark. Pleasant dreams.
Had to call the exterminator back out this afternoon. He had stopped by early this morning to check the traps in the attic, and said nothing had been caught. By about 2:30 this afternoon, could catch a really nasty odor coming from the attic, so gave them a call. There was a dead roof rat up there! SOOO glad we don't have to spend the hot weekend with it! Sprayed air freshener, and now everything is better.
Goodnight Margy and birthday girl! Andy, bet the exterminator missed that booger----if he had just gotten trapped today don't think he would have started smelling that quickly!
I am going to take my shower. You know, the one I would of been dreaming about in the mountains.
I will try to be back, but if not....Prayers for all pains, needs and wants. Pleasant eagle flying dreams to all......and praise to God for all prayers he answers and all he provides. (((HUGS)))
Haven't watched any of the links about Phoenix yet. Still pretty upset. Will be anxious to know, though, what actually happened to the poor fellow. Just such a crying shame!
Judie, hope that you have had a really special Birthday today!
Lynne, sorry to hear that you've cancelled your trip for now, but with the nasty hot weather, that may be a really good idea to postpone. Fall, with cooler weather, sounds much better, all right! BTW, love your newest pictures!
Well, feeling really tired (mostly because of the heat), so think I'll go veg in front of the TV for a while. Prayers said for everyone. The night light is on, and so is the porch light. The eye scanner security is enabled. Sleep well, and I'll talk to you tomorrow. Good night, and God bless! Love all of you guys! :o]
I'm right behind the rest of you! Tub is beckoning. And then my sweet bed........ah! Sure hope I can sleep in a bit tomorrow! Prayers for all, and peace in your hearts.
Spent all evening at the hospital with DIL. Her Aunt was also there with me. She's in quite a lot of pain. She has been seen by a neurosurgeon. They are going to see if some PT will help her condition. If not, they are looking at surgery on Monday, so we have a list of questions ready for the DR when he checks on her over the weekend.
Going to the hospital tomorrow to help her get one of her school finals finished. Her uncle is helping her with the other one. We are not going to let her last 9 weeks of classes be in vain!
Dogs were great...they are fed and sleeping on the floor.
John has a lot on his plate, but has plenty of help from Ajay's family and myself. If she has surgery on Monday, I will watch the kids then, and over the weekend if needed, but I think he has that covered right now.
Going to try to get a couple of things done tonight before I head to bed....
Oh, I forgot to wish Jack a Happy Birthday! Hope you enjoyed your apple treat!
Deb, neat you were in this area last year....the trail runs up through the mountains here in Frederick County...I pass it all the time going to Wally World across the border into PA and several parks I frequent as well.
Hope everyone has a good night, will stop in in the morning, probably head to hospital around lunchtime.
Hellooooo! Janet and Russ are gone. We had a fun evening. Took them out to the shop to see Jack's creation! They loved it! They were impressed.
Sorry Jo that I had to leave so abruptly. Jack and I were discussing what clue to tell you. You asked about height, so I will tell you.....it is about 12 tall.☺
Deb, glad you did not go camping and hiking if it was that hot. We are NOT Texas campers, never have been. We love going to cool Colorado and hiking there. But, we will be hiking when we go to Maine in a couple months!
Have not seen the Hope and Lily update. Need to go check it out.
BEagle - I was very interested to read Doug's comments. I appreciated your sharing them. I have a heavy heart as Phoenix was the other eaglet I watched, second only to Palmer in time spent. Couldn't really spend much time on more than these two, being employed and having a hubby and a couple of demanding felines.... Anyway, I will be very interested to find out the results of tests.
I'm so happy to have the balancing thought of Palmer flying free and healthy and sassy out there!
It's really time to hit the hay bales. I have been watching the chat line at Hornby to see if there is any news all evening except a little time when company came.
Nothing yet. Suggestions given that the necropsy can take a week.
The monitor of the chat is answering questions as best and considerately as possible.
Got lost on fb after reading the HOpe update and watching the video. Took forever to download. Well, it is Jubby's birthday and he has fallen asleep in his chair. Think I will go get ready for bed, then I will wake him.
Still awake, so back here to see what's happening. Duh! Don't know HOW I missed the fact that it was Jack's Birthday! Please forgive me!
BELATED BIRTHDAY WISHES FOR JACK ELLIS!!! Hope it was the best Birthday ever!
Judie, yes, Hubby is taking meclizine HCI for the vertigo. It's an antiemetic. Dr. says it's used for motion sickness. They've got him taking 25 mg every 8 hours. So far, so good. Fixed him up so he can function OK! The meclizine is similar to Benadryl, but dulls the sensitivity of the inner ear to motion, or possibly keeps stimuli from reaching the part of the brain that triggers vomiting. Surprisingly, it's available over-the-counter.
Paula, prayers going up that Ajay won't need surgery, and that PT will do the trick. Glad that she's been seen by a neurosurgeon! Good idea to make a list of questions--that way you'll remember to ask them, not forget, as I would probably do!
Prayers for Dana, too--certainly hoping for some speedy improvement!
Well, guess I'll try again to get to sleep. Lots to do tomorrow morning. Weekly shopping, and Hubby has an appt. to get his eyes examined. He needs new glasses, too. Am hoping my new glasses will be ready to pick up soon!
Well, good night all, will talk to you in the morning--hopefully early, rather than late. :o]
Paula sounds like a good plan...all the family pitching in, and the doctors making a plan too Will be praying for all to work out, and that AJay will be more comfortable very soon
I'm with the others...wish I was closer and could help out
GOOD MORNING TO EVERYONE... Hope your weekend is a GOOD ONE!
BTW, Paula...my Karla had the surgery that is being contemplated for Ajay. I think she was in and out in the same day...if not, the next day. Main problem...couldn't lift her baby (Dustin) for a week or so and HAD to wear a collar!

3.6 just after 5 this morning about a mile from Germantown.....WE FELT IT!!!!!
BBL
Good Morning, Everyone!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JUDIE!!! HOPE YOUR DAY IS REALLY SPECIAL!!!
JUDIE!!! Happy Birthday and I hope you felt the earth move for your big day this morning!
Doing some research on the quake....10 reports from SHEPHERDSTOWN, 26 reports from Harpers Ferry, 24 from Charlestown.
Here is the latest list so far.
Earthquake this morning
You can click on the tabs for maps, etc.
Wow, Lynne!
An earthquake! Leave it to our Judie to really shake things up! Hope there was no damage or anything.
Well, I'm Jonesin' for some coffee--will be back a little later.
Sorry---forgot to say Good Morning!
Judie, you sure know how to have a Birthday party!!
Can't believe that DC local news is pre-empting other programming for this!! ROFLMBO!
Here's my story.....
OK Andy, I hear you chuckling about our DINKY quake!!!! LOL!
I've got to get moving and head to Irvine. Wonder if Palmer felt the quake! Can't wait to get home and see if any other Momsters felt it!
No, Lynne,
I'm not chuckling!
Good morning! Lynne, I do not think I want to experience that...thank you! Wow!
A town just south of us has been experiencing mild quakes. They are wondering if it is related to all the gas drilling that is going on in the Barnett Shale. Scary thought! We have gas wells all around us!
Really neat info there, Andy! Love that kind of stuff!
Terrific----now 911 internet and phone lines are down. Congratulations, Frontier!
Morning, all!
Spring Update #7 - July 15, 2010
Happy Biiirthday to Yooouuu!!
Happy Biiirthday to Yooouuu!!
Happy Biiirthday Dear Judie!!
Happy Biiirthday to Yooouuu!!
BBL
Happy Birthday Dear Judie
was thinking of you at midnight while I was clocking in...
then when 5:03 am rolled around, I was really thinking of you!
Hope it is a great special day, just like you are to us ! xoxo ♥
thanks for alerting us to the Spring Update Paula.....
but..it's summer!
☺
Ragdoll Deb
sorry I have forgotten before now to wish you a GREAT Camping trip....can't wait to hear what you see and hear on your adventure
I think I am glad I worked overnight if 911 lines are down at work as Lynn mentioned
:(
we got a few calls about the shaking, some thought it was an explosion...
mutual aid radios, Howard, Washington, Frederick counties, Maryland were talking to each other, Washington Co MD thought it was near Sharpsburg!
All of it gave us the chills!
Lynn...
liked your words at shortly after midnight regarding the loss of Wildlife...very well said
I've either missed everyone or chased everyone off...
need to catch some z's -
Best wishes for a Good Friday...
wear some RED if you are of a mind to do so....thanks to our soldiers, active, and Veteran
xoxo ♥
IT'S FRIDAY, JULY 16TH, 2010.....Good morning everyone....
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JUDIE:)
Good Morning - I am here and didn't feel any shaking around.. thank goodness. However, my gd just called from Germany to ask about it as gs stated on FB 5 hrs ago that he felt it and that is about as close to the nest as you're going to get over in Shphs'twn.
from my friend that lives up the street from me.....
"It woke me up. There was a roar and then the bed was shaking. Bizarre."
HEY NORMA!!!! Having homemade bread and sausage for breakfast. Come on down!!!!
♫♪♫ Happy Birthday to you
Happy Birthday to you
Happy Birthday dear Judie
Happy Birthday to you.....and many morrrrrrrre!♫♪♫
Have an earth shaking day!☺
Megan on FB said she slept right through it.. I am glad she made a remark as I was worried for them.
That quake will surely be remembered well by our birthday gal!
Happy Birthday Judie! Have a special day and may your birthday wishes come true.
Did I misunderstand....? I thought that eagles returned to their birth territory once they are mature enough for breeding.....did I dream that??
GOOD MORNING...
I was awakened around 5ish by the sound of a train and wondered why it sounded so different this time. Now I know! I didn't feel anything or hear anything rattle. I guess earthquakes and tornadoes can happen ANYWHERE!
from USGS....
Lynn - As I understand, eagles return within 100-200 miles of their home nest to settle down.
Daughter just came by for lunch and a visit. I am so thankful that most of my children are within short distances.
I am putting my feet up
Our nest is still MT
It is so hot out you can hardly breathe
BBILW
She called McDonalds
Maca do naldos. Tried to teach her the correct pronunciation but her way was so cute!
Afternoon, all.
I hear something strange at the cam but not sure what! My hearing still isn't right!
Sounds like hammering of some sort...
Temp here in Frederick is 99°
:0
OMG So sorry about your DIL, Paula. Must really be bad if they are talking surgery. Oh, dear! And, the kids too! Your poor son!
Do not hear the noise, Paula, but I am on my laptop and the sound is not all that great.
97 here.
dear Paula
sorry to read about your daughter in law, the discomfort she must be in.
lots of herniated disc people on here (myself included) ....hope there is an alternative to surgery....
from an incident? or just lots of years of doing mother's work and carrying babies
Prayers for a good outcome....
swift...and workable....
She has had sciatica for awhile...guess the last baby just did in her back if they are talking surgery...usually that's a last resort.
understand that Paula...
sciatica...very miserable and uncomfortable
will have you and all the family my thoughts, and prayers for the caregivers....that they can determine the best course of action...
take care.....
LOL Lynn. Embarrassed? What a hoot! Glad you got your new phone and some errands done.
Paula, I agree with Judie----definitely a neurosurgeon!!!
Thanks for the info, Judie and Lynn...will pass along to Ajay and John. Heading out now, see ya later this evening.
Hey, Judie---in May '08 there was a 1.8 in Annandale!!!
Hi,
I've had a little trouble with the wireless connection here. I'm sitting on the front porch where I seem to have two bars.
Okay, that posted.
Happy birthday Judie and Jack.
Reading the messages about the earthquake. I was up at that time, but didn't feel anything.
Hi, Gang,
Back again for a short while between bouts of attempted housework.
JMHO.
Well, Hubby will be home from work soon, so better finish the housework. Will BBL tonight. :o]
I tried to go indoors again, but that causes me to lose the connection. It is pleasant out here, though.
We had a nice but very long trip.
Yes, I took my pills. Just a tad late, but not bad.
Looked out my bedroom window here and noticed some animals grazing just on the other side of the creek. Llamas. I took some pictures.
Kathryn and Hunter took off to visit her in-laws. I decided to stay here and rest for awhile. It is so pretty.
Paula, your daughter-in-law has had a hard time. I hope she gets what she needs to be rid of the pain soon.
Going to go inside for awhile.
BBL.
wow Paula, sorry to read of your DIL's herniated disc.
Shirley, glad you arrived safely and that you are enjoying the rural life!
Lynn
Jack on the 17th
and we have Diane F, Vicky, and Pammy Sue coming up this month also! and then I have to recheck my birthday email to make sure I haven't missed any others...
have to go to work to fix some teletype computer...wonder what that's all about
Hello Shirley !
back later on
ttfn xox
earthquake stories are interesting and informative
Happy Birthday Evening Judie
funny almost-CRS story Lynn....
sounds like you are "aging" much more beautifully than HE.
xox
how's the weather there Shirley!!
Kathryn is back. She returned childless. Hunter is with Nana and Papa. We are going to run some errands.
BBL.
Shirley....have a GREAT weekend!!
It was Pizza dinner. Yummy
Need to go chop green onions and set the table.
BBIALW
LOL LYNN!!!!! Just read about you running into your EX....too funny!
Mention on the news about how animals sense a quake!
WOW Lolly, that's so good you had that swollen ankle! Maybe if we pray hard enough, Ajay will get a miracle too!
Going to feed animals and get supper ready. BBl
Yep....pulled out b-day list and found Jack!!! It got buried under TV guide and book!
Many miracle stories about backs----good for you all! Maybe Ajay will get a miracle, too.
Jo, I have a new recipe for a Peanut Butter cake! I'll let you know how it turns out Sunday!
Lynn - are you making it for Carolyn?
My live feed has been up for 7 hrs - but nest is still MT.
For you Mits: Ocean City, MD - The Official Page The National Aquarium in Baltimore and its Marine Rescue Program team counted 117 dolphins in Ocean City, MD today. Flipper would be so proud!
Apparently no Palmer seen OR heard today, huh?? :( No hum on cam mic this evening which is good!
Jo---for Christie for her b-day.
2 mo. old Snow Leopard cubs went on display in Cape May, NJ zoo today! Naming contest for 12-and-under.
Ahhhhh! The weather man just said there is "hope" towards the end of next week. However, heading towards triple digits this weekend. GROSS!
Janet and Russ not here yet...sitting and waiting. ☺
Don't you just love it??!!!!!
I just might watch
Shrek the Third !
Ahhhh...Hornby Island! Just told Jack it is a destination AFTER Ely, MN. LOL
Jo, wish we could get together to spend the evening visiting instead of you watching Shrek. lol
The viewers of Phoenix last evening were trying to locate somewhere to give donations in his name. I think they decided on Mountainaire Avian Rescue.
Well I think that Buddy (living) and Phoenix (deceased) are getting the type of attention we humans worthily bestow on our animal friends.
Whoops! Coimpany....got to go.
Hello everyone.
Doug Carrick is on the chat line at Hornby. Says he put a salmon head on the beach for the mother eagle.
She hasn't responded but the male eagle did responded to his whistle, flew in and joined his mate.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tSdMt7Ngd0U&feature=player_embedded
Here's a sweet tribute to Phoenix.
dougcarrick: (16:46)
Our eagles have done quite well for themselves -18 successfully fledgedd eaglets to date.
Good evening everyone. Before I get caught up, HAPPY BIRTHDAY JUDIE!!!
bbl
Paula, how are your ears?
Happy Birthday to you Judie.
I am posting some of what Doug says because I think his statements are interesting.
I sure hope you don't mind.
dougcarrick: (16:49)
I don't think this nest will be used by their children or by any other eagles (after they have passed on). Many nests have been abandoned for various reasons but I haven't observed any such nest being taken over by other eagles. All new eagles seem to prefer to build their own nsts from the start.
I have had the Hornby site up most of the day interested to see the adults return. Last year they lost little Echo
by accident but they were back again this year. Hopefully they will return for the next season.
Their donations are going to MARS... I am so interested in the results of the
necropsy because Phoenix looked like he was about ready to take flight!
Taking a break - TV movie...
BBL to say goodnight.
Fantabulous is most certainly NOT a clue!
LOL!
Diann, how are you feeling??
Anyone heard from DANA???
all info is welcome BEagle, very interesting article you posted!
I guess what we do know is that a Great Horned Owl will take over and eagle's nest! Never did catch back up on that cam...it was down for so long.
I would really like to know what happened to Phoenix too. There are many who would like to know.
It's a big guess but I think she ate something.
I was thinking some sort of not so obvious injury.
Mits had sent me the Phoenix tribute earlier and it took until a few minutes ago to get up the emotional stamina to watch. It was very nicely done.
Lynne, love your imaginary friends!!
Jo, that was May '09. Text with pics is not lined up right!!! But you know what Chris looks like!
Remember this one ????
Oh my! Now we have momsters with imaginary friends. Hmmmm! Need to think about this development.
Off to watch some t.v.
Have not had the courage to watch tributes about Phoenix. Heart still hurting. So grateful for the care that has been given to the little one.
Happy to announce, my baseball and softball sized tomatoes are beginning to pink up
Hope everyone is having a nice evening
well okay Ragdoll...hope for cooler temps and better conditions in the near future....
sorry for the disappointment but sounds like a good decision
I am very much afraid that Palmer may have flown the coop for good... :(
Wow, an earthquake.
Hedgie, do you live near the Appalachian Trail?
Lynn, I think you may be right :'(
I'm naming our hedgehog at Irvine after you, BTW!
Got the email (Dana) and prayers going up.
Ragdoll, kinda glad you aren't going after all this weekend. Really the worst kind of weather for hiking. Way too humid! What part of the App. Trial were you heading for?
Margy, I love hiking in the fall. The trees are beautiful, it's cooler and there are no bugs.
Would do this in May.
that's so cool Ragdoll!
Judie-----severe thunderstorm warning until 10:45 for y'all!
Oh my, forgot about the snakes. I have gotten over lots of my fears with age, but snakes still hold on to me.
Well, I will have to start hiking now to get down in your area before the "S" flys.
Jo, I never saw that clip before! Hysterical!!
Update on Lily and Hope.
http://www.bear.org/website/lily-a-hope/live-den-cam.html
So happy they are together again. Also very good for Hope.
Thank you for the video. Dragged my hubby in the office to see it. It's soooo funny LOL
Hedgie, I just checked on the App. Trail map. I see where you are.
Was near there last year. Went to Gettysburg and Antietam. Beautiful area.
Hope and Lily update is up:
H&L
Wow, Deb...you were close, Gettysburg and Antietam!
Yah, fall will be a nice time to hike...colors, less haze in the sky, all that....
Wow, I was so close to the nest area.
Ok, just posted onto my blog our evening visitor to the sunporch...
After watching Lily pull down those trees, I'm beginning to wonder about the young saplings that look knocked over behind my lot--three of them are uprooted, right in a row.Maybe my bear IS back!
nice picture Lynne, great knowledge lesson...
Maybe we will see Palmer Saturday !
Time for bed here...with a little reading before sleep time
Prayers for wellness and healing for all that need them amongst us
Good Night
God Bless Us, Every One
xo ♥
Wow, Deb, you were SO close!!!!!!! What a shame you didn't "know" us then!
Prayers for Dana. I don't know the situation, but the Lord does. He always there.
Lynne, what a killer wasp. It was at the wrong place at the wrong time. Glad you got it before it found it's was in.
Good night Margy.
Well, I know you all now and am looking forward to October.
Lynn, if your bear isn't there, just get an imaginary one. LOL!
I just saw a black mud dauber yesterday, collecting mud. Haven't found the "tubes" yet. Guess what their prey of choice is?? BORIS'es!!! Good dauber!
My hubby said they leave a trail of destruction. I can see that now from watching Lily.
I love it when people have "an imagination". Just like Anne of Green Gables.
Sweet tooth time......Double stuff cookies......soooo good, but very bad. I usually don't have them in the house, but bought them for quick energy for hiking. Somebody has to eat them now.
Good Evening, Everyone!
Hubby was kind enough to take me out to dinner tonight. Air-conditioned restaurant!
He is feeling much, much better, by the way. Still taking Meclizine for vertigo, but it's working!
Seems cooler here tonight. It's down to 81 already. Hoping for a bit of a reprieve tomorrow.
Ooops. Doing a Margy. Andy, maybe you should reconsider the vocabulary class -- meclizine? lol
Okay, light is off now for real.
Goodnight Margy and birthday girl!
Andy, bet the exterminator missed that booger----if he had just gotten trapped today don't think he would have started smelling that quickly!
It may be a very long-g-g blog weekend........no new thread so far.
Time to go back the hallway
Good Night Everyone
Prayers for Everyone of you!
Hugs to all of you! ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
Good Night Judie Birthday Girl!!!!
Good Night Mema Jo!!!!
Oh, Andy, good thing you found the rat. It would of been a rough weekend in this heat.
2 eaglets back at TH, and at least one back at WE.
C(°ٿ°)D
Jim
I'm right behind the rest of you! Tub is beckoning. And then my sweet bed........ah! Sure hope I can sleep in a bit tomorrow! Prayers for all, and peace in your hearts.
Prayers for Ajay, Paula's dil - hope her pain is under control and tolerable. ♥
Sorry folks, got interested in Shrek the Third anad had to take my meds and have popcorn before I got back on.
I've caught up with last night and today but I'm sure there is more so tomorrow is another day.
I'm going to hit my recliner very shortly.
Hope all have a pleasant night and prayers going up for Dana, Ajay, and all others that need them.
And thank God for the ones he has answered. Amen
Good night friends.
(((hugs)))
Evening, all.
Prayers are going up for Ajay.
Just checking in to check out:)
Paula, so sorry about Ajay...hope surgery isn't necessary. Prayers for her.
Feeling badly for Dana...she has had so many problems this past year...prayers for her, too.
GOOD NIGHT MY FRIENDS
SWEET DREAMS
PRAYERS FOR ALL
BEagle - I was very interested to read Doug's comments.
I certainly hope it is nothing contagious.
Both the TH eaglets are on their nest.
Can't tell about the WE nest. Too wavy to see anything.
Got lost on fb after reading the HOpe update and watching the video. Took forever to download. Well, it is Jubby's birthday and he has fallen asleep in his chair. Think I will go get ready for bed, then I will wake him.
Nite all! Sweet dreams!
Prayer for those in need. (((hugs)))
Hi, Gang,
Still awake, so back here to see what's happening.
Good Morning Eagle ♀'s and ♂'s
nice and cool sort of, right now
Happy Birthday Jack! This is YOUR Day....hope it is a wonderful birthday from start to finish xo ♥
Paula
sounds like a good plan...all the family pitching in, and the doctors making a plan too
Will be praying for all to work out, and that AJay will be more comfortable very soon
I'm with the others...wish I was closer and could help out
Lolly -
12.. what? inches, feet...
oh, could you share Janet and Russ's contact information with us, I have a question I'd like to ask them ☺
Best wishes for a good day everyone,
going to go water the plants
and watch and listen to the nest between gallon water jug refills
hope all the ailments continue to disappear, quickly
back before worktime
been watching for an hour, no Eagle sightings but I did hear some geese fly over
I think this is Dana's MRI Day -
praying that all goes well with that
time for work here
Take care,
xo

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU JACK......
HOPE YOU ENJOYED YOUR APPLES:)
Prayers for Ajay and Dana♥♥
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO DADSTER JACK!
LOL, Lolly----Margy asked the same question I was going to: 12-WHAT? Inches, feet, hands, cubits??????
Morning all. Already feels 90 out but actually still at 75. Humidity must be really high.
Good morning, everyone!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JACK! Wishing you a lovely and special day. Enjoy.
Andy, so glad the deceased critter was found and removed. Can't imagine living with that smell.
Dana, good luck with the MRI
Lolly, I have lost the email address for Janet and Russ -- would you send that along to me, please?
Off to find coffee and newspaper.
Paula, I couldn't lift more than 5 lbs for about two weeks.
Collar depends on the location of the disc.
Please encourage Ajay not to listen to horror stories -- those are from days of general surgeons not neurosurgeons.
Please let her know that after 18 months of debilitating pain and useless PT, I have been pain-free for 4 years.
Thanks for the all the info, Wanda and Judie.
Here is a TV news report about Phoenix. See what Doug Carrick and Maj Birch look like. Always cool to put a face with a name.
