Good morning all you wonderful people in eagle land at Shepherdstown, WV. I guess no one has been up yet, but the eagles are. One in the nest, bring the flug around her more tightly. What a trooper. Blood on the snow at 4 o'clock so maybe breakfast has already been served.
Headed out for my daily fast walk. In the 30's here today and sun is shining. I want to get out and back before the weather changes it's mind. :) You all have a wonderful day.
good morning to all CarolinaMom, congrats on the feather and THANKS steve for the new thread.
another day here in Nashville, added about an inch of snow to our ice. I already called out from work today and tomorrow as temps are dropping now going below zero tonight. Given everything, the ice on my hill isn't going any where and neither am I.
Livvy is still at Chelsea's. It will be a nice snow play day. The sun has now come out and it will be fun for the kids as long as it is short periods of out door time.
We have some beautiful icicles!
Birds all over the feeder this morning, even some who don't normally visit. Red winged black birds, juncos and the usual group as well.
Will check in later. Going to read back on the old thread. :)
I've seen lots of juncos, too, Janet. And we are getting too many grackles. They get out there and make a big fuss. Guess they have to eat, too. At least, the feeders close up on them. The feeders are for the small birds. I do have suet out there and sometimes I put out peanuts. Blue jays, titmice, and squirrels like them. And I do see lots of birds at the birdbath. I might get out there sometime today to re-supply the feeders, etc.
I have seen red-wing blackbirds with the crackles at times in previous years.
I am out of peanuts for now, but a full supply of seed and suet. everyone's eating and not complaining.....love the birds. often do not have the time to sit and watch them. but on this snow-cation, I do. :)
Good morning to all on this Ash Wednesday to start the season of Lent
My back deck critters are in abundance - I have had woodpeckers down at the tree with the block of suet. I have a good supply of peanuts for the many squirrels and jays and titmouse. Shirley I remember that the red wing blackbird is to be a sign of Spring - I hope you see a whole flock of them!
That was a really fast walk this morning Candy ! I can't determine the different prints out back in the snow. I think it is mainly squirrels or rabbits.
I opened the cam to see it was switch time. I'm sure those eggs are staying warm. Need to get a good look to determine if we have a 3rd.
Looks as though one of them finished off the breakfast items that was in the nest. They could use some more flugg but don't know how they will find it with the fields being snow covered.
Blackwater is still having big tech problems with their cam. Here is their message: The first chick is feeding and sitting up. Dad has brought a lot of food to the nest. We think the 2nd may have hatched and we're watching for an image of the two chicks sitting up.
Thanks Steve for a new thread and thanks to Janet for the call over.
Good later morning my eagle friends. Just need to check the box to get comments coming to my email and then I need to start on that dreaded IEP.
Birds are abundant here as well. Have seen a beautiful pair of bluebirds on the holly tree in the front yard, eating the berries.
Shirley, my district added 16 minutes onto every school day for the entire year. That built 7 extra days into the calendar. We have used 3 days, so we are fine unless we get a whole lot more snow, and February is half over.
Good morning! Have been watching the cam while reading the paper. Saw both Eagles, the two eggs, and the changing of the guard! Time for the third egg today!! I have an appointment to get my do done, and plan on going to the grosssssserie store. Egg should come while I am gone, right?
Jo, how is it going with your hearing? Tell a difference? I do believe I have not heard "what?" once since Jack put them on. Also, when outside he said he was definitely hearing a bird with his right ear! Yay!
It is 41 and bright sunshine! Going to have some nice weather and then another front. Please continue to pray for rain. There will be a chance but what we need is days and days of drenching rain.
Yes, we miss Judie! We need her and she needs us. Shirley, have you talked with her?
Much thanks to STEVE and JANET for the shiny new thread and the call over!
Thanks too, to the eagle action reporters who so nicely fill in my gaps in watching our regal pair.
Looks like the sun is peeping through for Shep as he broods.
Not so here--another couple of inches of white stuff overnight with flurries still going on. Another snugly couch potato day for Penny n' me.
SHIRLEY, hope you're feeling much, much better today! Wise call on the Bridge date.
CANDY, your governor has been widely shown and quoted over the last couple of days. He says black ice is a threat---be safe!
We've had birds all winter here, too. Hardy little creatures! This morning I could swear I heard a woodpecker at work in the row of trees behind my place. Looked and looked, but could not spot the source of all that pecking. Maybe it was a squirrel cracking nuts???
Ash Wednesday brings the promise of Spring just around the corner. Hurray!
The cold is still bugging me. Cough, cough. I cancelled PT for tomorrow. They had told me I should if I still have this cold, and I really do not want to venture out in the cold weather coughing and hacking the way I am.
I am supposed to graduate from PT after one more session. I hope I can schedule that for next week.
Hunter just went out to sweep the snow off my car. He is now wearing his shorts and tee-shirt again. He did wear long pants and a jacket yesterday. At least it is sunny today, and the wind has settled down.
Good afternoon. I see eggs are being kept warm looks like some snow has melted off the nest. Sounds a little breezy too. Will check back after getting home from work.
Good morning Thank you for the new thread and the call over. I too am very concerned about JUDIE not posting. She is a leading and integral member of our Blog Family. I miss her posts and her wit and her insights. Very very sad she is not posting.
I miss JUDIE too. do we think JUFIE is involved? perhaps we should send out a search party, or those who may have a phone number call??????
burned some energy off, filing, cleaning, putting stuff away that I put off putting away...extra girl scout cookies in the freezer downstairs....
20 min on the elliptical, shower, now chill time.
I've been working on a pix from a photo that I took way back in august at the video shoot. if you want to peek at it, I call it Tufa in a Tree. It is my friend Rebecca of Tuatha Dea. She was so pretty sitting there in the tree that day that I snapped a pix thinking what a nice sketch it would make. I've been working on it.
I may work on one today for Olivia. She wants a koala bear...which I KNOW she could very well sketch for herself. I think she just wants me to do one for her specifically.
I heard a wood pecker early early yesterday morning when I was out snapping pix. Unmistakable sound.....I see them from time to time on the suet feeder.
Well, hoping everyone has a great day. off to post the pix on my blog, then sketch, read...etc.
YAY me! IEP is drafted - I think I will reward myself with a short nap!
Thanks for the news that we are currently holding at 2 eggs.
Sounds windy at the nest again today. Even though WV got some snow, i doubt that Freyja has been out in her new sled, since it has been sooo cold and windy.
Uh oh, I see snow falling at the nest. Is this Shep egg sitting? Whoever it is s/he is getting snow covered very quickly!
Predictions are for a fast moving storm and temps dropping big time. Same forecast for here, except the snow isn't supposed to arrive til late tonight - then the wind. Weather reports are saying the coldest temps in 20 years will be tomorrow.
Yes, Sandi, I was just about to post the same thing--snow is falling on our eagle and covering both the eagle and the nest. Not sure which eagle it is.
I say again that it is a good thing our eagles are tough birds.
I am glad the bridge ladies will be safe at home and not out here at my house. I do remember being at a friend's house back in my Ohio years when we were enjoying ourselves as snow fell outdoors. Someone came into the room and said that they thought we had better go home because the snow was getting deep. I drove home in snow so deep that it was hard to tell where the road was. It was a different time and a different place, and, I will have to admit, I was in my own neighborhood. I could have abandoned my car and walked home. But we did not worry as much about snow there as we do here. It was not unusual to leave a meeting, clean off your car, and drive home on snow-covered roads. When I was called to sub at the local school, the sub caller would tell me that I might not be able to find the appropriate parking space because the spots were all covered with the snow that was falling that morning.
We ended up with 2 inches of rain check the gauge this am when I went to work SO happy not snow but with our frigid weather coming some peeps will be freezing temps Poor crops the farmers will be out with the sprayers running
and wow the snow is really coming down now The eagle head is almost covered
We need Belle to get back in the nest fast! She creates a much bigger dry spot for the eggs! The sun is still shining here and it s a balmy 29 degrees outside with no wind. Tonight is supposed to drop to about 12 and tomorrow night, the actual low (not wind chill) could be -1!! Good grief!
can no longer see yellow beak but some feather on edge closest to nest is showing and it just says snow today and tomorrow no inches given that I could see
SANDI I also say she does a better job with covering the cup area He just doesn't put his wings out like she does Remember last year when they both were on the cup area Belle and then Shep on her ??
Both eagles on the nest. That is Shep on the eggs. Looks like Belle is ready to take over. Maybe she heard you Sandi. She does keep a larger area clear of snow.
Weather is reporting another band of snow showers is headed the way of the nest. We are getting the results now of the first one - can't see very far ahead and it is 5:00 rush hr
Yep JO I put in the Yahoo album as well as FB momster page I had thought I was on the momster page until I realized i wasn't so if you want to delete the pic that I put on your page just do They aren't duplicated they are all different time stamped telling a story Hey we could make a flip book with them
did you all see on the news that a guy made a flip book for his girlfriend a proposal was on the news There is a web site out there that you cam make flip books I use to love making them when I was little
Its ok Judy - I just didn't want the FB page missed.
It has stopped putting anything down for now. Hubby is clearing the deck with the leaf blower - snow is light. It really did add u to an inch or more in a very short period of time.
THANK YOU JUDYE: I obviously missed the post regarding JUDIE.
well well well. upsetting news. there's been a shooting at one of our favorite places to eat, which is less than 5 min from the house here. not good. not good at all.
getting frigid here tonight. below zero. windows covered. not much else to do. faucets dripping. cabinets open.
watching an episode of the incredible dr. pol. love that show. working on reading my name is malala. make dinner in a bit. broccoli cheddar soup.
Brrr I am offically sick of snow and cold. We have had snow off and on all day and 10 now. Only up to 3 tomorrow and A below zero forecast Friday night. Then possible freezing rain over the weekend The weather didn't stop the Pittsburgh Eagles from laying their first egg last night.
I watched the video she did look like she was laying a egg the motion of her wings etc like the other one I saw and then she got up and toooo dark to see anything after that
Bedtime for me I'll hate waking up to a minus degrees on the thermometer in the morning. Praying for our wonderful Royal Couple to warm as they tuck their heads.
Goodorming my eagle friends. Schools are on a 2-hour delay this morning but the phone call woke the dogs so I am still up early. Not feeling so great this morning - nauseous. I hope it's something I ate yesterday and not a virus.
Will be anxious to see how many eggs are in our nest this morning. Have agreat day all.
Looks like Belle egg sitting. She woke up and looked around for a minute but is now tucked again. Still sounds very windy there but there doesn't look to be any additional snow in the nest.
Yup, Belle got up, shifted position and did an egg roll. I wasn't able to get a picture b/c she was up and down again so quickly, but there were definitely 3 eggs! Good call on Terri's part last night!
Good morning to all you eagle friends that kept watch yesterday. Sandi called it; three eggs in nest. I haven't seen it yet. SANDI Schools are closed again here on the Outer Banks today after having two hour and three hour delays. We had about a covering of snow and now the cold and wind comes back again.

Must go find food.
Eagles look to be doing okay. I noticed the blood stain on the snow, too.
I am out of peanuts for now, but a full supply of seed and suet. everyone's eating and not complaining.....love the birds. often do not have the time to sit and watch them. but on this snow-cation, I do. :)
Both eagles now in nest.
No food, just some more fluff for nest. AND not I think it was Shep that came and just went.

Thank you Steve for our fresh new thread - You all stay as warm as you can during this freezing weather.
Eagle on egg. I thought we were going to have an egg roll, but not right now.
Yes, me too. thanks, Steve. And do stay warm.
I was gone for about 30 min. Jo. Not too cold, but still some ice here and there. Our schools were delayed here 3 hrs, yet today.

Oh, lots of woodpeckers here, Kay. They have been at the feeders and pecking on my house.
Did get a message from Judie yesterday. She wants everyone to know she is fine.
I'm betting you did hear a woodpecker, Kay. They like shelled peanuts and certain kinds of suet.
The nest is looking better and better.
Hunter just went out to sweep the snow off my car. He is now wearing his shorts and tee-shirt again. He did wear long pants and a jacket yesterday. At least it is sunny today, and the wind has settled down.
Pardon all of the deletes. I do not know what happened, but I did not mean to post the same message so many times.
Good afternoon. I see eggs are being kept warm looks like some snow has melted off the nest. Sounds a little breezy too. Will check back after getting home from work.
STEVE on lunch andfind a fresh.com.com thread thanks for the new one

SHIRLEY heard from JUDIE in one of the above comments and she is ok
Both were in nest calling.
Off egg momentarily.
Shep poofed.
Belle settled back on the 2 eggs.
Getting cloudy here, and snow showers are predicted for this evening.
Judie just sent a message to the eaglet momsters email.
Later!
Yes, if I were Freyja's mom, I would not be taking her out in the really cold weather. I am not taking myself out any more than absolutely necessary.
Uh oh, I see snow falling at the nest. Is this Shep egg sitting? Whoever it is s/he is getting snow covered very quickly!

It is getting dark--must be very cloudy there, as it is only 4:30. And the eagle is completely covered now. Yuck.
Well, okay, Judy, there a little bit of black still showing on the tail. Otherwise, the eagle is completely covered. :)
Those eagle feathers really have to be wonderful insulators.
snow seemed to slowed down some MAYBE gonna go look at the TWC APP to see what the prediction is
Oh, I just saw a snowflake here.
We need Belle to get back in the nest fast! She creates a much bigger dry spot for the eggs! The sun is still shining here and it

Yes, it would be good if he had spread his wings.
Looks like she walked on him. Lol
Weather guy is saying it is sunny. Okay, that might be true in DC. Not here.
Cloudy and snowing here. Getting lighter at the nest. Snow has stopped there.
We have 36 degrees here. It is actually above freezing. But that is supposed to change greatly tonight.
Looks like the sunis shining now at the nest.

SOOOO if we didn't get Snow Moon Egg, but we have one today, it would be Black Moon Egg! Can't wait to see in the AM!
Does anyone give anything up for Lent? Or do something extra? Just curious! I sort of have a plan, but I'm not sure how well I'll do...
Must get to bed.
Must mentally prepare for record breaking cold and wind, and then evil wintry precip.
Stay warm everyone! Good night and prayers for all!
Stay warm! Getting on to say good night! Anxious to see how many eggs in the morn.

It is the Year of The Sheep after all!!!
Belle was just calling out. The tree shook near the cam so maybe Shep took off to get some breakfast for her?
3 eggs!!!!
Yup, Belle got up, shifted position and did an egg roll. I wasn't able to get a picture b/c she was up and down again so quickly, but there were definitely 3 eggs! Good call on Terri's part last night!
Bye!
Eagle just changed position, but I was typing so I didn't get to see the third egg. :( It looks as if it is nice and sunny at the nest, at least.
I missed the egg turn again. :( I had better turn in my eagle watcher badge!
New thread.
There are 3 eggs. I finally saw it too.
