MORNING PAULA----Yeah---when I checked NORFOLK this a.m.---I only saw an MT limb---no nest!!!----THE RICHMOND HIGH-RISE had the window open & MOM & 4 CHICKS gone!!!
Ahhhh, look at Mits' picture of Tai, how cute is that! I'm back, but don't have time to go back and see what I missed. Meeting went a whole lot longer than planned. Geesh, don't they always. Morning to everybody I haven't spoken to yet! Hope everyone is having a good day. We just got a Heat Advisory email, stay hydrated. It's horrible out there now, and guess it's gonna get worse. Now going to check out cams.
HELLO SUZANNE!---Not a whole lot has happened since you left!!!---Just told MITS---"OUR" little birds keep learning how great life is away from the nest!!!!
Good news and bad news. Andrew got his first job at K-Mart and he found out last night he is going to be the drumline instructor for the Bluefield Beaver Band. Bad news - He can't come to Shepherdstown this weekend because he will be training.
LOL Norma, they sure do look like snow suits! When did the wood ducks leave? They must have all left this morning, there were 8 or 9 last time I checked, now no ducklings at all..just unhatched eggs! San Diego zoo is panning around watching the pandas. One is hanging between a couple branches, just laid out on his tummy, head hanging down between the branches. too funny. Puget Sound eaglet just took off out of cam view.
Norma, we got free lemonade 2 days in a row this week. Yesterday and today, Sunday and Monday were 90 and 91° respectively. What happened to Nature's Air Conditioned City? :)
Good Morning I've been there and done it! We always think things are going to be uncomfortable but I didn't feel a thing! I almost said HI to you Suzanne at 5:30 am this morning! Ed brought me home at 10:30. Just finished a cup of coffee and egg/cheese sandwhich! I really feel ok - guess I'll just have a sore thigh in a little while where I got the shot! Biggest needed I ever saw coming at me and I didn't feel a thing. Told nurse Thank You and she said that was the first shot she ever gave - then we all started laughing! Thank you everyone for all your thoughts, concerns and prayers! Prayer is Powerful. Won't know results until next Tues - keep praying!
Well, bring some of that cool air with you this weekend...weather does look nice so far, highs in lower 80" and lows at night in the high 50's....Congrats to Andrew, but sorry he is not coming.
JO, have to go back and read to catch up, but hope your leg is going to be well. Or whatever it is heals quickly! Sorry to be so ignorant, but I've been outta the net all morning, and haven't read all the weekend blogs I missed. I'll pray for your speedy recovery. And Sharon, you finally got some free lemonaide! Probably get some today, too!
SUZANNE---WOOD DUCKS---Best I could figure from reading all the comments, etc.---A crow or some crows got in the nest----when MAMA WAS AWAY & (workers) got the ducks out---(1) seemed to get lost in process---Ducks are now swimming with the 2nd MAMA--think missing duck found!!!----I checked about 7:00 this a.m.---& MAMA & all ducks were there!!!--JIM wrote on other blog that he saw the side opened---I didn't see that!!
Parent off the one egg in the BB nest, Finland chicks are being fed. Looks a little dryer there now, chicks are drying out. Puget Sound eaglet was off cam for a while, he just got back in the nest. Think it was Einstein in his spot in the tree, but he's back in nest now with little Albert. He's doing wing flaps, and playing King of the Hill with Albert.
Oh no! Damn crows!!! Side is open now, Norma. Well at least the ducklings are alright..most of them. So since the side is open, guess the parents aren't going to come back. Darn. There are still a lot of unhatched eggs in there. They're in the sun, so maybe they'll be alright?
SHARON----We could really enjoy a 'SWIG' of the Bluefield Lemonade!!!----GREAT NEWS ABOUT ANDREW---He would probably be bored with all us women--ho!---GREAT KID YOU HAVE---(bet you knew that)---DRIVE SAFELY!!!
SUZANNE----"KING OF THE HILL"---I like that one---But that really hits the nail on the head!!!---REMEMBER SPUNKY---She/He didn't play any of those game---IGNORED THEM ALL!!
Sharon are you staying at the Days Inn? Candy asked if I would pick her up there Sat, so if you are staying htere and want a ride let me know. Just need to know whether to bring the car or van.
Yeah, Norma, you're right... tomorrow is another day. Jo, take care of yourself. Time for me to hit the road. All have a great eagle day. Stay hydrated, it's terrible out there. Megan, hope you come in before you get sick! Eyes to the sky, see the raptors fly!
HI JILL!---Didn't see you come on!--I have been thinking about the parking on the 14th & I agree with JO---It would be easier to meet at the CLARION when we arrive & not take all the cars to SANDY'S home!-----Hope you don't get called out on the 14th!!!!--(oh well--i could fill in while you are eating)--ho!
NORMA congrats on the Head of the new Blog for today. That is good news about Andrew, SHARON. You must be happy for hig new job and proud of him getting to be the Drum line instructor for the Bluefield Beaver Band. That is great!
JO, so happy to hear you are back with us and made out ok this morning. You have a good rest this afternoon and talk to you later. Our thoughts and prayers will still be with you.
Rain didn't last for too long here, sun is back out with the humidity still in the air. :(
Came back on to see the Wood Duck nest empty. I am soooo glad that they could rescue the little ones and unite them with the mother. I can just see them swimming along behind here in a single file, or are they too young for the water yet? Guess not. I had fallen asleep reading a book during our storm so didn't see what went on.
Good Morning all, Well afternoon where you are. I'm running late this morning. A thousand things at once. I'm so sorry about your heat wave. 90's here is not the same as 90's there. You've got it worse. I'm glad Jo is resting. That proceedure is hard on the body. She mothers everyone and she neeeds some TLC now. Wish I were closer. I have go to get back to work. I'll be back later. root canal at 3:00. Glad when its over.
Hi ANN, The Wood Duck was on the Birdhouse site. I guess some crows got into the nest today and people that were watching got the hatched chicks out. So now the only things left are the unhatched eggs; only about 7 or 8 eggs left. The side of the nest box is wide open. Don't know what will happen nest.
I'd like to know how long it has beem since the swallow parent has been on the one egg that is in the nest?I haven't seen anything near it for awhile now.
Still no mom swallow. I wonder if birds are like chickens when they lay.A chicken will lay one or two a day and not sit on them until she has a bunch to lay on. If anyone knows please let me know. This is much more interesting than the statements I have to get off but since I am being paid to to them I will be back and forth today.
Oh dear, Limuw got tired of waiting for the parent to come back, so now he just flew off. The only one I haven't seen fed has been Eggbert! Right now he is just resting in his nest. I can still hear limuw calling from where ever he is perched.
I am picking Candy up at Days Inn around 11:30 am. At this point I have room for 4 more people. First come, First serve, rest can follow me down. Just let me know who I need to be looking for so nobody gets left behind. Can we get a count on how many people are driving to Sandy's? Mits, where are you staying?
Don't worry Norma, I get off tonight at Midnight and don't go back until next Wednesday. Somebody else can deal with the loonies. I sure could have used that cane this weekend. SHEW. I could have sent a bus load to Sharps. HA HA
Jill, I want to come so badly. I am going to Las Vegas with Mr. Right Now this weekend and cant change my plans or I would. I also want to get to Williamsberg before the year is up. Are they open in the fall? Does anyone know?
I personally have been watching baby Towhees, baby cardinals and baby sparrows on my roof. They are so awesome to watch and growing so fast. Oh yeah, and baby wrens at my suet feeder.
I thought about it Sharon but tickets both for a Broadway show(Mama Mia) and air have been bought and cant be changed. I said yes before you guys made your plans. Besides I would need more than a weekend to justify the cost and my vacation time is running slim due to my Alaska cruise in Sept. I have nothing to complain about. I would just love to see all of you.
ANNE-MARIE-- You asked about Mrs. Swallow, and what she is planning now. She will be very similar to Mrs. BB. She will lay one egg a day (4-7) before she begins to brood them. She won't begin permantely brooding them until they are all layed
Heidi - Everyone I know who has seen Mamma Mia has loved it. Have a great time! Hope the root canal got rid of the pain so you can enjoy the show and MR Right.
Howdy Folks!!! Hope everyone is staying in and cool in the heat wav outside... Jo praying for you and good results from your procedure.. If the meds from that are anything like i had for my stomach inspection..lol i slept along time after it and my biop was normal...Well Saturday is nearing and reading EVERYONE IS XCITED and anxious,,, praying Lib & Belle cooperates and is waiting for ya'll... for as many times as i have seen both they always are breathtaking to see... Mits are you staying at Days Inn also? It is about 5 minutes from me... Just spoke with Jenny and she is coming home tomarrow now she is 36 weeks and been in hospitol for 4 months now.. she is very weak and ultra sound done today the baby is over 5 lbs and wayyyy down in her cervix so wont be long now.. her due date is Aug 13th but she wont go til then for sure.. She is naming the baby Jasmin.. smilesss..Well wish everyone a great visit to the nest on Saturday and see you at the dinner.. Jo by the way did you reserve the fireplace table???
Paula the root canal was rescheduled to today at 4:00. I will leave here at 3:30. I am forcing myself to date and forget about blue eyes I cant have. The story of my life. Oh well, he is sweet and treats me well. I shouldnt complain. I am thrilled about the show. We also have plans to go to Red Rock Canyon at daybreak to take pictures. At least it wont be cold. Thanks Carolina, I thought it might be the same but you never know.
Hello...got back to Bethesda about an hour ago...ran into an awful storm right past Salisbury..when I was going past Cambridge it was 99°. was 77°, when I left OC...Jill, I'm also staying at the Days Inn.
Rain in the summer is so foreign to me. What a blessing. I guess it could be a pain in the neck if your planning something outside. I didnt think about that. I hope some of it reaches floragirl. Mits you stated that your windows were wet. Well I had never seen humidity before and called a motel manager to complain about housekeeping because of all the water in the bathroom. I was embarrassed when he told me where it came from. I wiped it up with a towel and it came right back, just to see if he was telling me the truth. Silly me.
Good Evening. I surely had a very nice peaceful sleep this afternoon. I should be good to go until midnight or so!! Jill There is a count of 20 for lunch - est 12 cars max. I think we can wait & play it by ear as to needing some cars to park at Clarion and carpooling. Mits & Sharon from the DaysInn will travel together as far as I have heard. You will have Candy & sounds as though Norma would be interested in carpooling. You best bring the Van as there could be more that would ride with you from Sandra's to NCTC and then pickup their cars on the return to drive over to the Inn. Nilla I have requested the Tavern and right now we have 25 for dinner. Can't confirm the fireplace long table - Might be more groupie for tables at the end of the room.
Hope you are feeling well rested after your long nap Jo... If i remembered correctly i thought the Clarion had private rooms also?? But i hope we get the fireplace table... Eaglets are ready for flight soon all over.. sad to see Santa Cruz MT...
JO-- Glad you are feeling well enough to join us this evening.
I see where it is going to be a problem with parking. My hubby is offering his services as a chauffeur. We have a motor home and can haul humteen people in it. Hubby said he could pick us up at Clarion--drop us off at Sandra's--come back when we are ready and take us to NCTC; then bring us back to the Clairon. Let me know if this will help.
I got to ride in a Limo for the first time this past weekend at the wedding I went to - was maid of honor. Drank Champagne in the limo on the way to the reception - That was fun!!
Sorry I'm so late..crashed right after I got home for a while.
I was thinking about the Wood Ducks this morning. We really didn't see much of the 'rite of initiation' from the interesting perspective. So I looked up some video when I got up after the crash...
This clip is very good, but in the one I saw years ago, the nest was higher and dryer..they nest up to a mile from water. In that one every chick looked terminal after the long leap and about a 10 foot bounce! But not one was even injured, and they were soon all in a line behind Mom heading for water.
Norma, set these ladies straight. You folks are in WV now. You don't drink champagne in a RV. Boone's Farm is as high on the hog as your get. Pabst blue Ribbon would be better. I would say moonshine but that stuff is more expensive than champagne nowadays. (So I hear)
Tomorrow's another beautiful day full of opportunity...
Try teaching your grass to deep breathe carbon dioxide in and breathe oxygen out... That'll keep you out of trouble and help make the environment healthier... {:=)}
Good morning, eagle world. Beautiful out tonight, warm, 78° at my house, but 75° here. Bit backwards, but hey, nice night. May try to glance back at blogs to see what I missed. Finland chicks were up a little while ago, but snoozing now. Parent standing right there keeping an eye out. Storks are up and about in their nest. Benicia nest MT, swallow in nest... wonder how many eggs she has now? Had 1 yesterday, that I saw. BW osprey MT, and it's still pretty much dark everywhere else. All have a great eagle day. Try to stay dry. Hear we're supposed to get severe storms later this afternoon or early evening. Hopefully, no hail, just lots of rain, preferable gentle rain. Eyes to the sky, see the raptors fly!
Storks are sitting around facing each other having a family chat. Fin babes are getting fed. They sure are growing. One owl in Benicia. Kestral cam is totally black, so don't know if it's gonna be up today or not. Still a swallow on nest, and the wood duck cam is also totally black. They might have turned that one off since the babies fledged yesterday. No note on the site, though. Snack time is over for Fin chicks, now it's nap time.
Well, we have our first osprey visitor of the day, and there is also a falcon on the wood holding the bar by the nest box. One of the baby Kestrals just popped up to the entrance hole, and a second one is half way up waiting for the first one to get out of the way. Third one is down at the bottom waiting for both of them to get out of the way. Fin chick is doing wing flaps, how cool. Swallow still sleeping, wood duck still black, owl still in Benicia, storks are just hanging around, one laying down and the other 2 are walking around. Course it's still dark out west, so can't see much.
Hi Wanda! Haven't read any of the comments from last night. If I have a chance, I'll do that. I'm glad everyone's getting excited.. I am too! Think it will be lots of fun. Can't wait to meet everybody!!! Don't know where Candy is, she might be sleeping in. (Lucky girl!)
Wow, Wanda, read part of the way back. You said your hubby would be willling to play chauffeur in your motor home? Wow, yup, agree, sounds like a party to me! That would surely solve the parking problems. Didn't read all the way back, but do know there are what, 25-26 people? How many cars is that? If we want to stay with cars, I can drive 4 people with me. We could carpool if needed, but I think your motor home is the perfect idea! That would just be TOO MUCH FUN!!!
Falcon is off the ledge exploring his/her new world. Osprey still in BW, Kestrals waiting for breakfast, one of the Fin chicks had eyes to the sky watching someone up there flying around, swallow still on nest, 1 owl still in Benicia, looks like the daily rain shower has stopped in Germany, and the storks are feeling good now that the sun is out. And of course, still dark out west.
Oh, 2 owls in Benicia! Read on their site that these may be the kids, but they were also thinking it may be the male and female parents claiming the nest box again. Can't see one of their chests, so don't know if there are 2 females or male and female in the box. One for sure is a female.
Since nobody's here, I have to tell you something. Seems getting sheared is 'in' at my house these days. Sunday evening I looked out my kitchen window to check on the bird seed, see if I needed to fill it before going to bed. I almost had a heart attack! There was a squirrel in a tray feeder, nothing unusual about that, but he had VERY short hair all over his body, and NONE on his tail! When I first looked out, I thought it was a huge rat. I sucked in my breath and almost screamed! Scared the cats to death. But then looked closer and saw it was an almost hairless squirrel. Geesh, I used to think they were cute, but this little booger didn't look so cute at all! He had some small tufts of hair on his tail, after looking closer, when my heart calmed down a bit. Sort of like he was going bald, and these little hairs were holding on for dear life. Earlier in the day, there was another squirrel there, but that's normal. This guy is a new visitor, or else one that has been around and is losing his hair. Anyway, scared me to death at first! Sure hope his hair grows back... very quickly, I might add! Very wierd.
GOOD MORING SUZANNE AND WANDA! You were right on target this morning, Wanda. You are a woman of your word, You got on before me. It is hump day for you workers; looking downhill form here til the 14th!
Suzanne, that sounds like a very strange squirrel you had in your feeder. Maybe he got into a fight or, I hope he did not have some kind of disease that he could pass on to your birds that feed there. Yet again, maybe the shaved look is in style for animals this summer! :)
BW osprey still hanging around, falcon ledge MT, Einstein in his new favorite place on the tree, Albert still in nest rooting around for scraps, kestrals all in nest sitting around, finland mom grooming and chicks just chilling, swallow still sleeping, 2 owls still in Benicia, Eggbert is also scrounging around looking for leftovers, one stork is looking in nest cup, other 2 are supervising. Still dark in San Diego, I guess, can't see much. Parent was just in and back out in Puget Sound. Think Eggbert is eating, cause he went right into mantling mode as soon as parent showed up. Now he's just eating.
Morning, Candy! Oh, never thought about a disease! I sure hope it's nothing like that, I've got a gazillion birds and several squirrels and a chipmunk that eat there! And yes, we made it to hump day! But tomorrow is Friday for me, we don't do Friday the 13ths, so won't be here Friday. Ahhh, another short week, 2 in a row, life is good!
Good morning everybody. I know my butt is very excited about getting to meet everybody this weekend. It is definitely going to be a good time for a big ole' group hug!!
Both owls are back in Benicia, and Eggbert is off cam. Jo, you were asking where he goes. He goes over to the very far right, there looks like there is a tree there that is holding part of the nest. But I've seen him come back on the nest from that direction, and sometimes if you look real close, you will see him at the very right corner of the pic.
Kent twins are too cute, they are each up a tree now. Albert is a few inches on the tree on the left, Einstein is in his new favorite spot, but going slowly higher.
SUZANNE I have been wowndering about the storks in Germany for a few days. When I look in on them there are usually only two in the nest, unless the nest is bigger and it is hiding. Last night I thought I only saw one laying down.

I cant remember where I found the wood duck yesterday? Help!
Parent and Limuw back at SC nest sitting there together. Limuw is being noisy as usual. He is laying down in nest and parent is up on launch stick.

Limuw's parent just made a few calls and then flew off. Limuw is not on the branch. Wonder if more food will come in.
Thanks Carolina, but I still cant find it. I think its old age finally catching up with me. Either that or its the heat.
Both eagle parents just flew into the Kent nest. What a beautiful sight! Oops, one gone now. Looks like lunch time for them.
Found it, there is hope for me yet!

Well, well, well, a swallow parent just came back on the nest. Will she be keeping the one egg warm, ro will we now have two eggs>? Time will tell.
Swallow parent gone again and just one egg still in the nest.
Oh dear, Limuw got tired of waiting for the parent to come back, so now he just flew off. The only one I haven't seen fed has been Eggbert! Right now he is just resting in his nest. I can still hear limuw calling from where ever he is perched.
Oh that stinker Limuw has been under the launch branch all the time. He has now come back out onto the middle of the nest.
I believe Williamsburg itself stays open all year. Although I wouldn't want to go in the winter. Theme parks close in October, I think.
Thanks Jill.
I personally have been watching baby Towhees, baby cardinals and baby sparrows on my roof. They are so awesome to watch and growing so fast. Oh yeah, and baby wrens at my suet feeder.
Couldn't you get Mr. Right Now to change his plans and come to Shepherdstown? :) Just a thought!
ANNE-MARIE--
You asked about Mrs.
Silly me.
Annemarie, the humidity gets sooo bad here, you can feel it in the air...give me the dry heat of Arizona any day.
Jo Glad to see you are up and around. I hope you are feeling much better now that you have had some rest.
Jo I told Jill that I could bring brownies for lunch and whatever else you will need. Just let us know what you want to do about lunch.
Hope you are feeling well rested after your long nap Jo... If i remembered correctly i thought the Clarion had private rooms also?? But i hope we get the fireplace table... Eaglets are ready for flight soon all over.. sad to see Santa Cruz MT...
Nilla May be extra charge for private room - I will inquire. Dinner count is now 26........
Candy
WHAT? NO DEVILED EGGS?
Just kidding!!!!!
Brownies or cookies would be great!!
I am praying that Tom's operation went just as well as my procedure!
JO--
Glad you are feeling well enough to join us this evening.
WHoo Hoo! Thanks, Wanda. Let me get some feed back from the Momsters.
Sounds like a party:):)
LOL...Can't you just see the look on the security guards face now, if we all pull up in the motor home.
Got champagne glasses and ice bucket in that there motor home :) Or maybe just a coller or frig? ;)
Jo, glad to see you are up and about and recovering!
Ooops, cooler! Not coller!
Think A or E just flew from the nest to the branch at Kent
PAULA--
We call it our Party Wagon. Fridge and all.
Limuw at SC napping....
And calling for dinner!
Hot Darn! Par-tee!!
I got to ride in a Limo for the first time this past weekend at the wedding I went to - was maid of honor. Drank Champagne in the limo on the way to the reception - That was fun!!
We could drink champagne on the way to NCTC but we may get thrown out!
Parent at Kent, feeding.
GOOD NIGHT EVERYONE
I'll touch base with everyone tomorrow - especially about the motorcoach ride!!
Good Night Everyone
Thankfulness for today given
Prayers for everyone's needs
AMEN--JO.
Sleep well.
GOOD MORNING SUZ--
COFFEE AT 6:30
GOOD EVENING, EAGLE LOVERS...
Wood Duck dive
Enjoy the clip and a wider, higher view of this unusual behavior.
Jim
Norma, set these ladies straight. You folks are in WV now. You don't drink champagne in a RV. Boone's Farm is as high on the hog as your get. Pabst blue Ribbon would be better. I would say moonshine but that stuff is more expensive than champagne nowadays. (So I hear)
GOOD NIGHT/GOOD MORNING, FRIENDS...
Tomorrow's another beautiful day full of opportunity...
Try teaching your grass to deep breathe carbon dioxide in and breathe oxygen out... That'll keep you out of trouble and help make the environment healthier... {:=)}
Jim
GOOD MORNING SUZ--
The girls are getting really excited about the 14th visit. Read some of the last comments from last night.
Where's Candy? It's COFFEE time.
BBL
Morning, Sharon. Drive carefully when you're coming here. I'm getting excited too, should be a fun time for all!
Uh oh, we only have 2 storks in the nest! Think one may have fledged!
Take your sunglasses if you look at the tree climbing eaglets at Kent! Very bright this morning.
Osprey is gone, Eggbert is back. Finland chicks are still eating, and guess both barn owls are getting comfy for their night.
2nd stork chick is doing wing flaps. Guess he/she wants to go now too.
Oh, 3rd chick made it back to the nest successfully, there are now 3 chicks in the nest. Congratulations, big guy/gal!
Mom is taking a break, still 1 swallow egg.
Parent in nest with Eggbert.
MORNING EVERYONE..NEW THREAD IS UP
SUZANNE I have been wowndering about the storks in Germany for a few days. When I look in on them there are usually only two in the nest, unless the nest is bigger and it is hiding. Last night I thought I only saw one laying down.
