Here's some news you folks have been waiting for:
We met yesterday on getting the cam going.
We are going to outsource the web access this year to allow the still cam a much better refresh rate than the 30 seconds that our network folks afforded us last year. I've mentioned to a few folks that we face significant hurdles regarding network security and bandwidth limitations, and we believe this approach gets us past these issues. We are working through the contracting now, and have targeted Dec. 6th as the start date. We will strive to hit that target.
We will also experiment with a wide shot camera along with the existing cam. We recently got a brand new microwave receiver which should help with cam reliability.
The live video will start on or around February 1, and will stay on through the end of July.
We are also looking now at technology for next season that will improve the cam, and add audio. Based on the behavior of these eagles, we figure we only have a couple of weeks window in August to make the improvements.
The cam has been on here for a few weeks now, and we have watched the eagles slowly preparing the nest with new sticks.
I know that this has been a long haitus, but hang in there and we'll be up soon.

Searching the cams for eagles but on Panda Cam 2 I see Tai hanging on the branches up in that tree. He's blowing in the wind.

Great cam news, Steve!! Thanks for sharing the info. What horrible weather, rain is pouring down, and wind is gusting!! We did not need this rain, I cannot get any work done outside:(

Good Afternoon, It is like a dam opened up here the rain is so hard!!! Thank God we went yesterday Mits to see Tai, ment to tell you the Chinese resturant we ate at was organic and very good. BW has a fantastic pic of 2 eagles down at the river. Suzanne,Paula & JimP (is that our Jim) all have lots of photos in the latest gallery.
DC Panda Cam 2: Tai & Mei are inside busy with the bamboo-- But Tai is being a little lazy as he is lying on the ledge! It is possible on Cam 1 that TianTian is being shown with his bamboo.
I watched the video & read the cub update on ButaBall! Heard a little bark our of her at the end of the film.

think I will be calling my son in GA when I know he is off work to see how they managed with the weather. So glad Nilla and Mits took their trip yesterday, doens't sound like it owuld have been the place to be at all at least earlier today. I can't imagine how Suzanne does all that dirving back and forth like she does, especially as the weather gets harder to drive in now with the change of seasons.
So, where might the momsters be tonight?? HUmMMMMM, very good question! Weather is too nasty outside tonight here in IL so I won't be going out!

Hi Vicky ! Ed's doing well ty has an appt. Nov 20th to go over his CT-Scan.
Me doctor today drained a cyst behind the knee that I had surgery on. He was very surprised at all he got. I told him I wasn't it's been so painful I couldn't hardly walk inside the house. Now he wants me back in 4 wks to probably do it again. Oh ty dr. for that since you didn't believe me in the first place lol lol lol He is a good dr. though just isn't usually a thing they do. He said wow. I said thanks.

well Vicky we didnt really talk with her she was in the little room speaking with the lady in charge of the camera i dont think she was a happy camper, like i said when i walked by her leaving she was out in the big yard picking up panda poo...Which i might add is alot like those boards they put sown to level floors called Louwon (spelling)they dont digest like e do it sorta stays whole... think it wouldnt be as much chewin as they do.

Paula, not working yet. Not sure when that will be but have tentatively set it for Monday. Being off has caused a great hardship at work and although I know I am powerless in it, I still feel a little guilt, especially now with the upcoming holidays.
Vicky, it has been a long haul but hopefully soon things will get taken care of and I will be back better than ever!!

I hear ya about the guilt thing at work, but take care of yourself. Work will always be there! Others will pick up some of the slack as you will when they are on vacation or sick.
