New thread.
I have gotten inquiries from folks about getting more info on what's going on and also requests that the NCTC do something to assist the birds.
I need to repeat that we all understand that this episode is unsettling to everyone, but it is one of the risks of having the cam in place--you get to see the wonderful things and the not so wonderful as well.
Wild nature is not always a happy place...the best thing to do is not to interfere in any way.
FWS biologists have been aware of this episode since it began and I suspect there will be more information put out tomorrow on the official cam website.

«Oldest ‹Older 801 – 1000 of 1439 Newer› Newest»Such a sad picture for such a wonderful Eagle Mom.
So glad to see that Belle is eating! Waiting for Lib to return soon.
We got some great pictures today. I'm sure there are some really great ones taken by Scott, but those that I have I'll pass along to Paula to post.
So great to meet you Megan.
Paula, thank you.
Hugs and warm thoughts to all the Newbies who came here this week.
And to those ever present & loved, Jo, Margy, Lynne, Lynn, Lolly, Loretta, Dana, Robyn, Glo, Judie, Shirley and the rest of the family...really big hugs for you guys.
she is tucking them both in with fluff, just rolled the egg towards the chick, picking at the edges of nest cup
Glad to hear she ate the rest of the fish.
She digging into the egg cup.
Bless her heart ♥. Had to look. She's digging out nest bowl & rolled the egg.
Goodnight you two! Thanks for a day I will never forget. :(
Thank you, Lori and Megan for going to the nest with me today.
I think she is doing what she has to do and doing it with determination.
this is awful to watch... But very interseting to see how and what happens when one dies.
Thanks to both of you for letting me tag along:)
Wiggling in.
I'll be your understudy anyday.
She is wiggling down now.
Sweet sweet Belle.
I had to reboot cam so missed Belle go to nest cup but she is in nest cup and rooting and pushing sides up.
I f you remeber 2007 at Maine, they stayed with cup for a few days and we all believed they were mourning.
would it not be something if she had another egg to lay. (I know it is late, but I never relinquish)
She is now shuggling into nest.
bless her heart.
We could all learn form this pair.
I am sorry, I keep saying I will be quiet. I will try not to hsare my optimism
I have found a lot of enjoyment and comfort from the Faces avatars...Sharon's idea, so I thought I would return the favor again for a little while
Yes, sure hope to see Liberty very soon...today, tomorrow, anytime !
going to try one more time for live feed, back in a little frustrating while
xoxo
I just directed a lady named Maria over here from the NCTC Eagle Cam facebook page. I hope she finds her way around.
Welcome, Maria!
Thanks to all you wonderful folks who did the field trips to the nest for the rest of us too far away to do so! You filled in the blanks when we were wanting so badly to see beyond what the cam was showing us. It helped so much.
Please, Bev., share away!! I am grasping at straws of hope right now and your comments are helpful. So is the thought of her having another egg to lay - straws, people, straws!!
bev, I was wondering about another egg, and so was Maria over on Facebook. I don't know enough to have an answer, but I am also hopeful.
I think my sound just shut down.
Belle still with her soft sounds. ( believe those are Dad calls)
Now she is really calling again
she is brooding facing 11 but her head is turned to 3 and now following all around. she looked up to 6. Maybe to top of tree
Damn cam froze again, even when I hit play
Belle has had to face this alone. At least it seems that way.
I know there is a window on when they are fertile but one thing I have learned from our biologists here, is that something out of the ordinary can always happen.
I guess I am still hopefully this other egg hatches out.
I am no expert. I know more about falcons than eagles but they are from the same family.
She is quiet now, facing 9-10
I thought there was a post from Maria, but it seems to have disappeared. I am confused.
Editing photos from today probably tonight...sorry, but not really in the mood to do them this evening...
Very recently Belle was calling out
She was turning her head as though there was flight over head.
this appears to be a female 4 year juvenile and Liberty is no match for her alone.
He is no good to Belle if he is injured.
I think this female follows him for food.
Belle just shrugged down so something must be flying around
I am sure Liberty is just as frustrated.
It took a bit at Norfolk before that juvenile went away, the year buddy was born. We did not see the adult female for awhile and then there she was
Night light came on.
I have been away most of the day and I am now pulling my thoughts together in order to comment.
Paula, Lori, Megan, John Thank you
for being there and relaying information from the scene as it happened.
Right now my foremost thought is for
Belle's safety.
BBILW
Just about dark here now.
Hi new friend and old friends.
I got the call from Margy about Paddy O'Joy. Margy said now that is what they are saying on the blog that Paddy hasn't moved for I forget how long she said.
Tears flowed from my eyes with Mom in the car as I was driving. My Mother knew what these pair of Eagles mean to me. I had been telling her everything about from the laying of eggs to the hatch. Plus the name and why Paddy O'Joy.
I had to get right home and plug in my computer so I could see the nest and read the comments...maybe a miracle was still possible I kept thinking. Keep praying and drive home and get that cam up and the blog!!!
I am here with new people on the blog. Thank you all new people for your kindness and thoughtfulness. You have shown to what has been going on at our nest at NCTC that we as a group have come to love, learn, and respect this pair of eagles; Liberty and Belle. Stay with us or come back we welcome you. We share in your sadness too that we know you are having.
To my "group of friends" after much tears that I knew I was shedding with you all too. This has been a tough pull on our heart strings. For me as far as the cam I DO WANT IT LEFT UP. I want to see Liberty and Belle as how they
resolve this issue with the intruder. I feel they will still come to the nest. It is their "home". If they want to zoom out that is fine with me but PLEASE LEAVE THE LIVE FEED UP FOR US. I truly think it will help us as a group to see Liberty and Belle. I came here to watch and learn about eagles and I have met the BEST people in the world; you all are my friends. As a lot of us have gone through life's struggles and loses these years we have
helped each other. Now we need to do the same "stick this out together, helping each other through this tragedy that has happened not to one of us but to ALL OF US. I thank God the "group prayer" worked-yes a fish was brought in. God had other plans for our sweet Paddy O'Joy that none of us thought would happen today. Some may have said, "Why God couldn't you keep little Paddy O'Joy alive just a little longer a fish is here". I don't have that answer nor does anyone else. I do know I am need to grieve with my friends whether my "old group" or
the "old group and new that have come in here, I grieve with you too". I need to see this finish out on the LIVE FEED. It will help me with the loss to see Liberty finally come to the nest. To see what Liberty and Belle do now with the intruder. I need this to help with the healing process. Nature has been beautiful with this LIVE CAM and I want nature to finish and show me what nature would do now in the "world of a wonderful pair of American Bald Eagles that nest at NCTC".
As far as watching that is up to each person themselves. I respect the choice they make about watching.
Belle is calm again. A few minutes ago she started screaming and the feathers on her back went straight up in the air.
Must have been Hussy flying over.
I am thinking that I was saying that John was there for picture taking -
But I stand corrected that it was
Scott... Well I hope you have a group pic for us named the Hussy Hunters.
Uh, Oh, we have the disappearing posts again!
And it's not just Maria's!
here is some information on egg laying
Q. Will bald eagles produce more eggs if the first ones fail?
A. Birds that breed at southern latitudes lay earlier than those that breed at higher latitudes; this gives them a larger window of opportunity, thus southern females attempt second clutches if the first eggs are lost in the early stage of incubation. Females that breed further north have a smaller window of opportunity and appear to attempt second clutches rarely.
I guess we will see
Anyone checked for a new thread yet?
No pictures have been taken of this so called hh group you speak of. they all remain anonymous and live on as an urban legend...
Yes, Paula I just did
None at this time
The HH Group hides behind the scenes which is similar to hiding behind the flowers
@DanaWV: so sorry you had to find out that way!
@Scott: thank you for the pix that you will eventually share - I'm sorry that you came such a short time ago and have to grieve so heavily with us . . .
We can hope they will produce another egg, but they need to be allowed to mate again, I would think. That is going to be a problem with the hussy around.
I'm back Tori is feeling better, I hope.
I just caught up, I read the intruder returned but Belle is ok... good
Belle needs to eat what she can and keep her strength up I hope this doesn't last too long...
Paula you have mail
Hello my dear sweet friends. This is all so very sad. Tears keep coming, and even tho' I expected it and was prepared for it, I grieve mostly for Belle. I don't care what anyone says about animals not having feelings.....it is simply not true. Belle is heartbroken....you can see it in her eyes, and hear it in her cries. Nature at it's cruelest, for sure. And we will so miss the joys of watching our eaglet grow, thrive and fledge. But we will be strong in our love for each other as well as these magnificent birds.
It hurts to see Belle on that egg cup as if it's going to make any kind of difference. And it is angering to know how totally unnecessary this outcome was......the intruder has miles and miles of space to claim. There was no need for her to be here. I agree: damn, S of a B, etc.
Thanks for all info, for ground watchers, for words of wisdom, for communicators, for comfort and for hugs. And thanks to Red for admitting that men DO cry!
I just looked at the revolver map and it is going nuts right now. Hits from all over.
Hi everyone. I've been watching the camera for a few weeks & I have been lurking here since Paddy hatched. Just had to let you all know that even though things are not turning out the way we hoped, I am still rooting for Belle and Liberty. I hope they keep the feed going so we can see the day when they are together once again & the intruder is gone for good. Is it too late to lay another egg if they can get rid of Trudy quickly? I feel so bad for Belle right now. Wish I had introduced myself during a more hopeful time. ~~~ Jennifer
WVgalDana
I am so sorry . I am a newer member last year.
I was here in the storm and followed the progress. Unfortunately when my falcons were ready to fledge I had to be on the ground. But I did make sure our miracle last year made it.
this does not seem fair. but God did answer our prayers. I asked for the best possible outcome and I guess for Belle this is. She needed food and her instinct is to her young but if she is going to be compromised , her instinct is for survival.
She , in my opinion, should go down in history. She kept Paddy Joy alive against all odds for so long. I hope the biologists take note of this.
I know I am not a long time group fiend but I do understand your pain. I am still reeling. but I have to see this through.
I would hate to see the cams shut down. It is so nice to see the pair . and who knows .
I watched Belle rearranging the edge of the cup....as if she was still trying to protect her brood.
wvgal_dana, that was a beautiful post, and I wanted to thank all of you who have welcomed us "newbies" here and answered our questions. This has been a heartwrenching first experience watching an eagle cam. I was mesmerized from the start, and very quickly became attached to this eagle family. I may not have the fortitude to continue watching the cam, but I'll be checking in here to see what happens next with Belle and Liberty. I hope they remain safe and healthy, and I hope I'll continue to be welcome here as I intend to learn more about these beautiful creatures. Thanks!
Jennifer, welcome to Eaglet Momsters (and Dadsters). I am sure you learned from lurking that we are a friendly group and welcome all who come in friendship. You can help us grieve with Belle, and watch for Lib and Belle to reunite.
Hugs
I am so sad Last year with Phoneix and now this one Why does it hurt so????
Hedgie that was very well said and I can echo your thoughts
Well Belle seems to be at peace right now. she has a full tummy and I pay for a good tomorrow.
I will be back but I have neglected doggies and hubby today.
Hugs again.
I really loved the avatar that Loretta last used, with the osprey, and Bird Girl's of the Rescued Owl...
so beautiful both of them...
COL - cry out loud, LOL "Lots of Love" as I used to think that stood for ...
- I have been checking for a new thread about ten times now
Ok I'm a newbe I as so saddened by to days events as I was when Phoenix died last year But I want to say thank you for giving all of us the opportunity to see these magnificent birds I watch all the cams that I have been able to find over the years and just wanted to say thanks Saddened my heart is breaking and I wish I could do something but we can't Judy in Florida
I have only been watching Belle and Liberty for a couple weeks. This has been such a learning experience and I have developed a soft spot in my heart for these Eagles. I am so sorry that they lost POJ but like many have said..we are seeing raw nature. I hated that it took a bad turn but I will be with Belle and Liberty from now on..I have to see this to the end. I will be back next year and the years after, as long as the Cam is there. I wanted to thank your group for allowing me and my family learn so much, and kinda adopt Belle and Lib into our family. Thanks for being so good with updated news and views. Thanks for caring about these wonderful, beautiful and majestic birds.
Melissa
full moon one day old now, going to have to struggle to get out of the clouds
Happy Official Spring !
Sad day, indeed. In addition to Belle, I am most sorry for you long-timers.
I do have a couple of questions. There was discussion today about a trip to the site. I thought it was a secured, i.e., closed-to-the public site. Not so? If true, where do you go to be in sight of the nest?
Second question, what's with the night light? Is it infrared and the camera is also infrared? If not, doesn't the light disturb the eagles at night?
Thank you very much.
We have surely had some magnificent posts from many fine folks today and in the last few
Welcome JudyE and MeLyn23
most recently xoxox
Judy Melissa Heather Jen....so wonderful of you all to come on here and share your feelings with us....thank you for that. And please don't be strangers.
Bob, the night light has been a source of frustration for us since the new cam went in....annoying. As far as going to the site at NCTC....on of the others can answer that one for you.
Robyn, I'm glad Tori is feeling better!
I am so grateful to see the outpouring of love from everyone. So sad in my soul but I have no doubt that we can love each other through this. It is going to take time. Much love and hugs to you all.
and to you dear Sharon...
(( hugs ♥ ))
You are a strong source of inspiration and comfort to us
good ol' Double E-S ! xoxo
Thanks Lynne.
So much frustration and confusion this season in general....first all of the issues with the new cam installation, all the bug, the poor sound, the night light. Then, we saw our pair infrequently and then not at all for a couple of weeks which was very odd for them. Then they show up the day after Christmas and there was brief speculation as to whether the male was actually Lib or not. And now this......GEESH.
your welcome Bob. I can't answer the nest visit question correctly other than to say that I know there has been permission given at certain times for people to come on to the grounds, but not in any of the buildings (except during Oct Open House there when you can go inside).
My girls were very sad to watch the cam this afternoon and after much talk and tears --my dear little Molly, said--Mommy the chickie is ok because she is in heaven with God now and can watch all of all the time!!! I love my little girls--and wanted to share their wisdom with you tonight.
aw, that is so precious! Kids say the most amazing things!
Heading for the shower...then TV. May be back after 11 or in the AM. Love you guys!
Bob, along side the road after passing NCTC entrance there is available space to safely pull over the width of a car next to the fence. With a good pair
of binoculars you can see the nest and the activities around it. Not sure if the group today asked to enter a personal property area in order to park in a better area and set up some professional camera equipment
Thanks Jenny for telling us about your daughter's comments - we all need to
see things through the eyes of a child
Just couldn't stay away. A like button would be great since you all have said what I feel.
Looks like Belle is at rest for now.
May the first full day of Spring bring happiness from somewhere for each of us who grieve.
Jim is home so I must spend some time with family. Mike made dinner so I could continue to watch our Belle. Chris helped clean up so I came back. But alas, I must leave you for tonight (if I can stay away).
Prayers for a better tomorrow. God bless.
Yep, the nest can be seen beautifully from side of road. Lots of people slowing down as they drove by today.
Many people watching and wondering about these eagles.
Bob - Yes, the night is an infrared
light. It is not as bright as was our
night light - seems that the moon
helps out a lot. White head & tail is
visible.
Darn it! I'm thinking I'm done watching eagle cams. This is all way too sad. I know it's nature, but still. :-(
Jen, bev, heartheriar, JudyE, MeLyn23, Bob in Frederick and other
new people that came on this blog. You are welcome anytime to come
on back. Do hope you stay and share, I know this has saddened you
all too. You can share your feelings here too. Thank you for
enjoying this Beautiful Great Pair Of American Bald Eagles in our little part of the world. That is beautiful what little Molly said Jennifer....give her a "special hug from all of us" please.
Megan seems a lot of people in the area know about the eagles. When I sat there yesterday cars would roll up the stone of the drive near nest and watch for a few minutes then drive away.
Well, I'm going to cross my fingers and pray for a new clutch. Someone made the point that Trudy the Hussy Intruder will make that scenario less likely--just another reason to dislike her.
JudyE - Hey there! This is Pam from Facebook. Glad you found your way. Were you talking about the death of an eaglet in Phoenix?
Ok Diann take care glad the guys are helping. Come back if you need to chat/comment. HUGS
Big hugs to all--Hoping for a peaceful night for Belle and hope that Lib can return to the nest to help comfort her. Big hugs from the girls, too!! Much love to all.
Each time I walk away from my computer, I tell myself that it's silly to be so upset over this. Then I come back and immediately check out the nest, then come here and start crying all over again.
Thank you to all for making me feel so welcome and allowing me to spew my sad comments.
Thank you, Jenny, for sharing your daughter's comments. "Out of the mouth of babes . . . ." :)
Each and every one of you out there is special. The love and compassion you have shown for these eagles makes me feel very lucky to have found you all.
Everyone please try to have a good night knowing Belle is eating again and sweet Paddy is no longer in harm's way.
Oh, and Bev, LOVE your optimism! We need it! Don't beat yourself up for it.
Thanks Mema Jo. I'll have to cruise by next time I'm up there and I'll take my field glasses.
The old cam was left up in the tree for a infrared light but that cam went bad. It was after the pair of eagles had started fixing the nest. Steve said this problem will be fixed after the eaglets from this season have left. So there is a problem NCTC will be address and fixing in the future so at night we can see better.
Yep, Robyn, I know a lot of people in Shepherdstown who watch the eagles. That happened this morning, too, people driving by and slowing way down to look.
Hey, does one of the Momsters have a link where the newbies can see pics and get some info from previus years?
Those pictures of Liberty and Belle beak to beak with an eaglet will melt your heart.
Do the still use that solar camera they were putting in that day several of us went to the nest?
Jenny
was heart-warmed to see you return to us this evening
Love to the girls, you have raised them up right
God Bless all of you, and a special secret Magpie Hug for all of them but especially that M♥lly
.. and yourself !
Does anyone know how to contact someone from one of the forums at the webcam site? Her name is Ruthie and she posts like she should be here on this blog...If you know how to contact her, please invite her to come over here where she will meet people who seem to think like she does. Thanks in advance and ((((hugs))))
Looks like Belle has her head tucked in tonight...Bless her, she sure needs a good nights rest!!!
It has been a very sad day for all of us who follow the life cycles of Belle and Liberty. We can only hope that our royal pair will remain in residence at the Sycamore Palace. May the intruder move on quickly.
As I am sure all of us are, I am exhausted and, with heavy heart, will extinguish my light early tonight. I will leave the night light on for others coming in, to include the new members of our blog family. May we all have some restful sleep. Thank you again to those who took time to visit the nest area and to provide first-hand information on events at the nest.
Bob, about the 3rd week in October, NCTC has open house. At that time you can get on the campus and see the tree. Not good to walk close but you are close to the tree from the street on the campus.
Really have appreciated the comments from all the newbies. I am very proud of this group being able to communicate love and compassion. I am proud to be a Momster!
Good night my friends! I love you all so much! This emotional roller coaster has wore me slap out! I will see you all in the morning light.
Nite Judie...(((Hugs)))
Nite Beverly! (((hugs)))
Again, welcome to our new-found friends! Hope you, like the rest of us, stay for the friendships. There really is nothing quite like this wonderful group of folks.
Jenny, your little girl is an angel....beautiful philosophy from the mouth of a child! And she is 100% right.
Glad I had dinner before I came home to all this sadness. But now I need comfort food.......chocolate pudding is chilling.....the good, cooked kind!
Stars are out but there is NO sign of Mr. Moon. Nest is SO dark. Tilking doesn't help. Maybe Belle wants to be alone tonight.
I still have not read todays papers....gotta get through some emails, too.
Glad to see Belle getting some rest.
BTW, please call me Heather ... I'm in Northern Virginia, and nearly made the 75 mile drive there myself today with my family.
Worn Slap out Sissy, did that not used to be Worn Slam Out?
God Bless You, rest well....
so glad you were so good-natured that my card said "Happy 95th Birthday" - just knew that Loon had to come to you, no matter what !
xoxox ♥
I live in Fl and am thinking about a drive up and I'm on vacation next month Might just try to check in to the area
Rocking Circle, what your little Molly said was just beautiful and so true.
There is no moonshine on the nest tonight (yet).I just checked after quite awhile & very dark.
Margy, your E_M note was wonderful. And glad you like the old osprey pic. I found it "locked" in the camera!Had to change pics for now.
All the newbies--many of you said you will probably stick around this blog. Please do! There are many more animal & bird cams that we watch and will discuss and much to see all year!
Lynn, I too need to go through my emails. Have just been glued here.
I did watch the Mai video. My, she has grown!! I could see her energy! The video confirmed my feelings that you did the right thing. (((HUGS)))
Loweeeeeda! Love your avatar!
Gee, I never ate dinner & need a Tylenol! BBL ☺ ♥
Thank you Scott, Lori, Megan and Paula for extending yourselves to visit the nest area and posting to the cam watchers exactly what was going on there.
You are appreciated.
Good night.
Prayers for all you all.
♥
going to start putting things to rest here, deal with a few more computer fix ideas...
Hope and Pray that Sleep will be Sweet for all, especially, Belle, surely hope that is possible...
And prayers for wellness and strength, always
See you in the morning
Thanks so much, everyone
God Bless This Nest, and
God Bless Us, Every One
xoxo ♥
It is nice to see Belle tucked. She did not do that for the last two nights, at least not much anyway.
Going to go check my emails. I know I am way behind. Need to read Margy's email.
Robyn, that cam died last year. Then the cam they replaced it with died this fall. They tried to use the solar panels with the cam this year, but ended up running it off of regular electricity, as the batteries kept losing power trying to broadcast at night. They thought regular electric would help with the night vision.
LOL. so much for green energy ;)
I'm taking 2 aleve and 1 muscle relaxer
I don't have anything stronger..
Judy here Thanks for all the welcomes Not for sure if any of you know of this website here in Florida in Clearwater where Winter the Dolphins lives Well they have a new baby dolphin with a live cam on it you might want to check this out during the day time when the cam is up
http://www.seewinter.com/baby-calf-webcam
NaturesNut had mention animal cams so I thought I would pass along Its a sad story with a happy ending the calf was found sucking on its dead mother and was rescued and now lives with winter the dolphin Thats the dolphin a movie is being made of Check it out Ok going to go been long day many tears still God be with all
the dolphin is sort of visible but its still dark the link is
http://www.seewinter.com/baby-calf-webcam
I just check in on her They are asking to help name her or him not for sure
I have orange vodka... tasty and helpful
tonight's nest weather-Rain likely early this evening...then rain after midnight. Lows in the upper 30s. Southeast winds 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain near 100 percent.
Radar doesn't really show rain heading at us right now, so it may not be much.
I feel it Megan it's coming.
I have had the cam off for the past 2 hrs, anything? I guess Belle is settled in for the night...
I am still trying to catch up on all of todays posts and emails....
I see many new faces here expressing their sorrow and love for this amazing pair of eagles.
Most of us have watched this pair for 6 years...now you understand why.
The dedication and caring they show for their young and family is something to truly behold.
We have learned a lot from Liberty and Belle through the years, through the good times and the bad. The good times keep us on a high, but it's the bad times that bond us together as a family. And that's what this blog is, a loving family.
I feel so grateful to be a part of this family, which includes Liberty and Belle, and all of you.
Please don't let the unfortunate circumstances of this season drive you away...yes it can be hard, but we have so much to learn....look what they have taught us so far this year...and they will continue to do so.
Thank you, each and every one of you for your posts, observations, prayers and expressions of sympathy. We will get through this together.
Liberty and Belle are amazing creatures, and I am proud to say that I love them and all of you with all my heart ♥
Have to admit kind of envious about the vodka Megan but if I wake up that monster, none of you would like me anymore. :-)
JudyE, what a sweet story about the rescued dolphin. Awww.
All newcomers are welcome to become an
Eaglet Momster or Dadster.
http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/eaglet_momsters/
This site has photos and an email
system that lets news reach all of
us.
No worries, Sharon, I'll take care of that for ya:) I posted a pic for you on my FB page.
Yeah, my knees are talking to me, Robyn- rain talk...time for Aleve
Thank you Paula
I do think that the Baltimore Aquarium is expecting a new dolphin!!
Good night everyone. I am so ready to put an end to the hardest day I have ever spent in 6 years of watching eagle cams.
AOYP everyone human and feathered too.
Zanaflex here, after my quiz of course
Nicely put, Paula :)
Megan was that your post over at OC?
Beautifully said, Paula.
Eagle-Eyed Sharon, you have to do what I do - or rather say what I say... "Thanks, but I was born a little drunk, I don't need any help"... People usually are so surprised, they don't go any farther.
Yeah, aggravating site there. Hard to share any info
Love your comment, Iris.
I really hate when that wave of grief comes over me. I feel like I lost family today. I love you all and I do believe we can live each other through this but it is definitely a process.
PammySue did you see the story of Winter on that web site That is a dolphin that was found in the Gulf of Mexico and had a crab trap line wrapped around its dorsal tale fin well he was rescued by the Clearwater Marina and is living there he did loose his tale and someone had made him a prosthetic tale out of fiberglass so he can swim there is a movie that was filmed there Morgan Freeman, Ashley Judd, and Harry Connick Jr
Kris Kristofferson are in it should be released end of year If you ever go on vacation come to Fl and check it out I go all the time with my f=grand daughter The dolphin is an inspiration lots of people especially paraplegics
And love you for who you are, Sharon.
I tried, there are quite a few who understand but then there are those like one named susan and A who just seem to like to ruin it for others.
I am glad several came here form over there so they can learn as we did about Belle and Liberty.
I clutch my rosary beads at night when I try to go to sleep, and for each of the 50-plus beads and the Crucifix...I offer a prayer for a need or a person in need, then I start over because there are so many...I also clutch a little blue bear that James won for me at a carnival one year
Then I say the 23rd Psalm over and over again, and finally I go to sleep...
sorry I said I was leaving but I am finding it hard to disconnect
Thank you Paula
It is good to read what you say...
warms the heart ♥
This is the First Day of Spring...
I rejoiced and loved seeing the forsythia in bloom out front. When I close my eyes I see those 2 little black eyes on that bobble head. I grew
to love you Paddy 'O Joy during the very short time you were here. You left us too soon but you were needed
up there in the Nest by the Rainbow
Bridge. Thank you for being with us so that we could show our love to you.
One advantage of sorrow is the ability to Bond. Bond with those we have as old friends and Bond with those we have just met as new friends.
The week ahead may be very hard for us as we watch Belle at the nest alone waiting for Lib to come and for the Dirty Bird to leave. Please let us
all stay together for love & support.
I liked your message, Paula.
Thanks for the link, Jo.
Judy, a prosthetic tail for a dolphin--very cool.
I am staying Mema Jo, life had been hectic for me school, teenager, blah blah blah but I missed everyone here was soooo glad many joined FB to stay in touch, now FB is being neglcted lol and school :(
Leaving for an hour but will return
to say my good nights.
Okay my friends of fine feathers, I am going to try yo end this day. Having a hard time turning off the tears. I so appreciate everyone's kindness on here.
I'm off to bed, hope sleep comes. Thanks to all for your love and support during this wretched time!
May the Lord watch over you and protect you and give you peace.
xoxoxoxoxo
Oh my. I have a misspelled word on my last post. Will you forgive me?
Well said Paula.
A bright point to bring up during this time of morning is look at all the new momsters and dadsters this feasco has brought together to generate new and wonderful friendships. In the long run we will all benefit from Belle and Liberty's misfortunes.
Yo, I'm not sure I can get past the misspelled word...
Paula I loved what you wrote on here (((((Hugs))))) and Thamk You.
Mema Jo I couldn't have said it any better about Paddy O'Joy and Rainbow Bridge. Thank you.
Hugs to all and we will as the days come hang in there together.
Prayers for everyone
Good Nite Angels On All Your Pillows ^j^ ^j^ ^j^ ^j^ ^j^
Sharon, I will forgive you if you forgive me for saying Sharon instead of Sissy...DUH!
Love, Love, Love
Iris that happens all the time. Megan-hush and go water my hot lips. :-)
Had to take a little break. Small crisis in our household. We left Hunter in the room alone to finish a school project--a poster with pictures of Katie Couric.
I kept thinking that we should check on him. (Later found out that Kathryn was thinking the same thing, that maybe we should not leave him alone in the dining room with markers and glitter glue.)
What do ten-year-old boys do with glitter glue, markers, and a poster that has pictures of a pretty lady? Well, Katie would have been surprised at the facial features she had sprouted.
"Hunter, why did you make an "X" on her face?"
"I had to cover up the dot that was there."
"Why did you put a dot on her face?"
"I don't know."
"Hunter, why did you draw a circle around her with glitter glue?"
"I wanted to highlight her."
The poster had to be done over.
Thank goodness, we had two pieces of poster board.
Thank goodness I have a color printer and know how to find pictures of Katie in a pinch.
Thank goodness Kathryn did not pull out all of her hair, (nor Hunter's).
I hope you can have a little laugh at our evening's misadventure.
We cry.
We pull our hair out.
We laugh.
We love.
We care for one another.
Life does go on.
Belle is up
Stronghunter, I did get some laughter from your little adventure. I am still giggling about him putting an X on her face to cover up the dot.
Little girls make neat, pretty posters. (Mostly.)
Little boys make messes. (Frequently.)
First - thanks to those who provided John and I information on finding the nest today; we did indeed "detour" and the info was perfect. As heartbreaking a day as it has been, we are SO glad we were there (and we got to meet Susan and Gray!!) We didn't realize Paula, Lori and Megan were in a different location; sorry we didn't get to meet you as well. We got home about 8:30 and have been catching up on all the posts since we left VA around 12:30.
We arrived a little after 2 and were there until about 4:15 and didn't know at the time that we had already lost valiant little POJ. Belle was on the edge of the nest and Trudy (we thought at least) was on a tree to the left of the nest, then flew up into a limb above the nest. Reading the other posts (and thinking back to how white the head and tail seemed, although the eagle seemed very large) I wonder if it was Lib. It would have been about 2:15-2:30ish. Whoever it was stayed above the next for a while looking down, then flew off and didn't return.
Belle stayed on the side of the nest for another 45 min or so before she moved to a tree above the small pond (with the poop shoot and beak cleaning Paula mentioned) before taking off. We waited until she returned a little after 4 when she went back into the nest.
Were any of you still in the area around 4:10? We are fairly sure we saw a juvenile eagle soaring above and near the nest and calling very loudly (I think the underside was too dark to be Trudy - seemed like a much younger eagle from the coloring); based on the size, flat soaring posture, and call I don't think it could have been anything else. John got some pretty good pictures, but I don't know how to post them for a sanity check.
We are new to this pair and this blog, but our hearts go out to all of you in particular who have been a family with each other and with Belle and Lib; if this has been hard for us, I know that's a fraction of what you all are going through.
We hope to meet many of you, and in much happier times. Now that we know we are only 2 hours away here in Oakland, we'll definitely be back to visit them. So happy to hear you all saw Lib today.
We know Lib and Belle will prevail over the Hussy!
(Jennifer in Westernport, we are indeed practically neighbors! We drive through there sometimes when we travel to NOVA and go the scenic/back route).
Belle is moving around a lot.
Shirley - love the story
Having raised 5 it sounds all to
familiar lol
Jo. you might say Hunter is my fifth. I raised four and Hunter is the offspring of one of the four.
Spucciano, glad you were able to find the nest. I have been there, but only on the campus of NCTC.
Spucciano...I have thought about you today and wondered if you made it to see the nest and the drama. Good to hear from you.
Look back for Mema Jo's comment about the Eaglet Momsters. She posted a link if you are interested.
I am sorry...need to look back, forgot your name.
Shirley, I raised two sons, so know a bit of what you wrote... I learned never to let them alone with glue and certainly not glitter. You sure made me laugh outloud!!!
Paula...you made some excellent comments. Thank you!
Sharon, we do not forgive mispellings and typos.
And, if you make really good ones they go into the Momster's dictionery. ☺
Shirley, (yes, I first typed Shirely.) You did indeed have an event at you home tonight. LOL
Heather, what part of Northern Virginia do you live? I also live in Northern Virginia....Ashburn to be exact.
Lolly - thanks for reminding me about the Momster link; will definitely check it out. As far as name, I am the "new Susan" :-). I will change my name on the blog as soon as I can figure out how (Google says my browser is not supported so i can't update my profile), and since I'm currently typing on my work laptop, I don't have the option of upgrading.
Have a great night all, and strength and victory to Belle and Lib, and all of you.
Susan
I think I am going to read for a while. Time to get my mind on other things.
I will be back to say good night.
Belle is tucked again.
There is glitter all over our end of the high school. One of the science teachers did some kind of project that involved glitter. I have even spied some shiny spots down the aisle in my classroom.
I told Hunter that the next time he uses glitter glue, it needs to be in the kitchen, not on my dining room table.
Kathryn has glitter all over her face. She is very sparkly.
Poor Kathryn is also very tired.
This has been a busy day on the blog. We are close to hitting 1,000.
It looks like Belle has her head tucked. Hopefully she is getting some much needed rest so she can take care of business tomorrow.
Today has been a horrible day for so many people who appreciate and love Liberty and Belle. I know we have all cried for little Paddy and tried to comfort Belle through our computer screens. It's so unfair.
I am leaving for the night. I wish everyone pleasant dreams. ♥
And Steve just started this thread this evening a bit after 7:00 PM. We'd already posted a huge number of messages earlier today. I expect it is a record number of posts for one day.
Good night, PammySue. We do have happy times here, too. Please keep coming back.
So glad to see Belle with her head tucked - she has to be exhausted, and at least now she's had some food
To all, I have been watching in suspense when I am home, reading while I have been at work. I am saddened by the loss of Paddy O Joy and even more so for Belle. I am new to signing up for the blog. To let you all know, I am Hedgie's daughter and work with Magpie.
My profile pic is my latest adoption who was set free last year. Her name is Baby. Hope she brings a smile to all of your faces!
I'm baack, Just couldn't stay away.
I could never write as beautifully as all of you. You certainly have written my feelings.
When I went upstairs to change into pjs I had a good cry. We must go on.....as Belle & Liberty surely will.
Now to change the subject. SBs are at it again but I think I found a temporary repellent The day it was so warm we had 15 SBs on our southside screen and in between the glass and screen. I found 2 that got in and I flushed them. Then I got the Raid ant spray, opened the window just enough to get the top of the spray can in and sprayed and sprayed upward. They dropped like flies!
Having checked just today all seems to be holding. I may have to repeat but I glad they didn't get in.
Time for meds and some trying to sleep tonight.
Welcome again to newbies and those we don't hear from often enough.
RIP Paddy O'Joy
Everyone have a good night and God bless.
P.S. I was thinking how many eaglets I've viewed at this nest and this is the 3rd. Though I didn't join the blog until 2 yrs. ago.
(((HUGS)))
Hi Jewels!
Have heard a lot about you. Glad to see you on here.
Thanks Stronghunter! I need to learn who everyone is!! LOL
Hi Everyone -
I wanted to offer here on the blog, a synopsis of the events that unfolded today while we were at the nest.
I went to the nest today (with Scott, Lori and Megan) to try and understand the dynamics of what has been happening between Liberty, Belle and the intruder. Around the 8 o'clock hour, Liberty and Belle were in a grove of trees near the nest. The intruder flew from the other side of the campus towards the nest....and before she could get there, Belle flew from her perch to the nest. The intruder landed on the perch (branch) above the nest. Soon after that, Lib flew over the nest, trying to draw the intruder away from the nest, which didn't work. She remained on top of the nest for quite some time while Belle brooded the chick and egg. She tried to land in the nest, but was repelled by Belle. She finally left a few minutes after that, heading south.
After the intruder left, it was quite some time before Belle flew out of the nest and soared around the nest for some time, then she slowly soared over the campus towards the east (left on the cam view). She was gone for around an hour or so, when she suddenly headed back to the nest, with the intruder following her. This was around 11:30 to 12:30
After some time, the intruder left the nest tree and soared off to the west (right on the cam view). A little while later, Belle left the nest and was soaring over the nest. The intruder reappeared from the west and Belle guided her away from the nest, towards the east. This was around 1:15.
Next, Belle reappeared from the north (behind the cam view) and perched above the nest and Liberty came in just a couple of minutes later and perched in a tree near the nest. Then Liberty and Belle both took off and soared above the nest together. Liberty continued west and Belle came back into the nest, right before 2pm.
A few minutes later, Belle left the nest and headed straight for the river. I could see her dive behind the trees, then I saw another eagle dive behind her. A few minutes later, Belle was hightailing it to the nest with the fish she caught, with the intruder hot on her trail. Belle landed in the nest, and the intruder landed on the perch above the nest.
Unfortunately, the fish was too late to save poor Paddy O'Joy.
The intruder did move closer to the nest, just out of the cam view at the noon position. Belle won the staring contest and the intruder left, and Belle stayed in the nest, hoping to feed the eaglet. She took a few bites of the fish, but mostly she sat there for an hour or so, waiting to feed the eaglet. When she left the nest around 3pm, she went to a nearby perch, cleaned her beak and did a poop shoot. Then she came back to the nest and perched above it. She looked down into the nest several times, then took off and soared above the nest, then south.
When she came back, the landed at the nest edge (noon position) and all ya'll could see was her feet.
That is when we left the nest area around 4pm.
The only time we saw Liberty was early morning and later with Belle. Other than that, he wasn't around. I can only surmise that this is a battle between the two females, as the intruder was most definitely a female. Every time they tried to guide her away from the nest, she would come back and sit above it. It seemed like when she was soaring, that she was checking to see where the intruder was. I'm not sure how all this is going to play out...it appears the intruder returned again to the nest this evening.
My heart breaks for Liberty and Belle, and our Paddy O'Joy, God Rest His Soul.
May Liberty and Belle have the strength to convince the intruder to leave the nest area, and allow them to continue with their own lives.
I also posted the synopsis at the Hancock and WOW forums.
Paula and Jo, those are wonderful thoughts and words.
We all must move on with Liberty and Belle and hope they keep their health and territory. I'm sure they will.
Blessings to Everyone on here and all God's miraculous Creatures.
Pleasant Feather Dreams, if possible. We know where Paddy O'Joy's spirit is ;>)
Jennifer, now that you are here, you can create your own blog. Just go to your profile page. You can google creating a blog and it's EASY!!!!! THen you can post pics there. Or scroll up and find Jo's yahoo info for our yahoo group and once you have joined you can post pics in our albums!
Thanks for the link to the dolphin cam, JudyB. Can't wait for daylight.
Megan, didn't know it was supposed to rain. Ugh!
Everyone has offered such loving thoughts, insightful comments, and so much unity that I just can't add anything else. Thanks to ALL for being here.
Paula, I think you spoke for us all.
Megan, agree about the forum.
Robin, does your pain lessen once the rain begins? I hope so.
Still need to check FB---haven;t been there once today, and then I'm heading for the tub.
Hoping everyone sleeps as well as they can tonight. We ALL need it.
Glad that all travelers are safe in their roosts. Always remember that it is a small world.....and wherever we gather, we find that folks are the same wherever they hale from.
Chrissy sends us her love and hugs....but don't think she knew at that point that we had suffered this loss.
Goodnight. RIP, Paddy O'Joy 3/17/11-3/20/11.
Thanks, Paula.
Unfortunately, this is not over.
But we are learning about eagle behavior.
Thank you so much for that update Paula... it was very hard for me to keep up to date at work. I offered to take Mom (Hedgie) to the nest on one of my days off. Not sure if she wants to go right now as she was really upset when I talked to her on my way home. :(
Hope all has a peaceful night tonight. God Bless all of you Eagle watchers, friends and family alike.
Goodnight Belle and Liberty, and lil Paddy O Joy, RIP our baby eaglet.
Stronghunter (is it Shirley?) - I got to see Palmer last year, which was my first year watching Liberty and Belle. I watched them make it through all that snow and lose 3 eggs, but still have a little one. :)
I hope we have more happy times when the Hussy moves on, too.
Jewels - Just so I know I'm not crazy, that's a deer in your pic, right? I had a pet deer when I was a kid. He wore a collar with a bright orange cowbell. He was quite a rascal. The DNR said we either had to fence him in or get rid of him. We couldn't bear to tie him down, so we let him go.
PA Nana - reading about your good cry made me cry. (hugs)
On another note, I heard that the spray that is used to keep flies off of horses will keep stink bugs away from your house. I don't know if it is true.
Excellent, detailed report, Paula, thank you so very much! Lets us know what the Royal Pari is up to... what we cannot possibly see from the cams
Want to mention how wonderful it was to hear from our Sandy a couple of times these last few days
(( hugs ♥ ))
And Thanks also to Red for sharing these times with us ♥
enjoyed the glitter and glue and highlighting antics Shirley ☺
and Welcome Jewels! Great Moniker !
...don't worry we will help you figure out who we are, there is such a thing called a Cheat Sheet...
☺ xoxo
whee doggy almost got pulled in for a midnight shift...but someone else is going to take care of the problem
I'm arriving a bit late - life happens - but didn't want the day to end without expressing my sympathy and my love to you all.
Like everyone, I really wish the outcome had been different. And I wish the intruder moves on, and Lib and Belle have a peaceful summer. But I have learned that sometimes the answer to prayers is no. :(
We are learning a lot about eagles from what's happening here - and while it may be hard to watch (and I certainly understand why some will choose not to do so) - I do hope the camera stays on as we see what happens next.
My thanks to those who make the camera possible - and to those who can make the trip to the site and report what they see. And to everyone who makes this such a wonderful place to be.
Hugs,
~JudyB
Royal Pari...oh, make that:
Royal Pair !
Yes, I am Shirley. My screen name is a combination of my mother's maiden name and my maiden name.
Glad you did not have to go in to work, Megan.
Hello, JudyB. Thanks for the kind words and for stopping by.
PammySue,
no you are not seeing things. baby is a dear that we raised from a baby. During the Blizzard in Dec of 2009, she came inside and slept, drank her bottle. She would clean the cats as she is doing in the picture, she also would lick my dog. LOL. I know nature all too well as we have not seen her since early 2010. Knowing probably all to well what happened to her, I choose to believe she is running free with other deer! :)
Thank you so much, Paula, for that information. You described it so well, I could see it.
your mother will be preparing that Cheat Sheet, no doubt, Carolyn- Jewels
Maybe the rain, will send Miss Unwelcome somewhere else !
Good Night Everyone...
God Bless Us, Every One
xoxo ♥
Thanks Margy, and glad that you didn't get called in too!!!
Okay, glad you explained that, Jewels. I thought that Baby had to be the deer. (Or deet, as we say on here.) Didn't figure you set the cat free. The cat looks a little bit like my George.
yesindeedy Jewels..someone would have been calling 911 on me!
Nice avatar too by the way...
very sweet... ☺
okay, bye...xo
Jewels, we raised ours from a baby too--still had spots. And we also fed him with a bottle. He used to pull the laundry off the clothes line. He was a riot.
Your Baby may very well be out there raising babies of her own.
no, I could never set my kitty's free. LOL
Margy I knew you would like my avatar. No sleep and working now, can you say co 1??
Nighty night to you!!!
Thanks for the hugs and love JudyB.
Once again, welcome to our new posters and members.
It has been a long, long day. I am going to turn in.
Hugs to all ♥
We had a German shepherd that pulled the laundry off the clothes line and then dared me to chase her. She would drag the laundry through the dirt and dance around and infuriate me.
It surely has been a long day, Paula. Rest well.
It looks liek Belle is awake again. Poor thing.
I said I was leaving before, and now I really am. I'm glad I waited cause I got to see Paula's report and hear about Jewel's Baby. :)
Good night everybody. Sweet dreams and have a great day tomorrow.
I thought I said I was going to bed over an hour ago...this time I really mean it.
Sleep tight everyone, especially Belle and Lib, wherever he is.
Angels on you pillows everyone
