Dear God, there is much turmoil at the NCTC nest. Please hear our prayers and let Belle and Lib reign at THEIR nest. I feel there is something "not right" about this intruder and my heart goes out to all of the eagles, even our little Paddy O'Joy who lost his/her life because of the turmoil. We are human and do not understand this. You Creator of all the Fish, Fowl and Four legged friends in your divine wisdom must understand the dynamics of the situation, please help us all get through this with grace and dignity. We do not want any more harm to come to our eagles, even the intruder. I pray to you that you may hear my prayers. Amen.

Iris, Mucinex-DM does NOT make me sleepy. Someone mentioned Flexeril giving them a good nights' sleep--it makes me SO drowsy in the morning that I can barely function!! Luckily, I switched to Robaxin, so no more sleepy-head in the AM!

I have finished my TV shows and
every commercial I would jump back on here to check the nest & try to keep up with the comments.
I am hoping that our 8pm prayers will have T far gone to find a mate & make their nest. I will say that T's behavior is very baffling and I don't know if we will ever figure this one out. All I know is
that I want Belle and Liberty to return to the nest and hang out.
Those videos of the knock down fight that we saw - I bet no biologist have ever witness an eagle stomping on the back of another. I was so happy for Belle.

Parallel staring for several moments in same direction suggests low level threat heard/seen outside the nest that both were attending to, maybe keeping tensions between them from escalating like earlier this evening

So......that's the gist of the story. Such a ruckus was raised about the blog stuff that "them o'er there" think that the "no cam" is in retaliation.

I too saw Turdy and Belle appear to snuggle in the nest and am flaburgast (sp?)! They looked cozy, best of friends.
This newbie is so confused......I hear some on the other site saying that was Lib in the nest and they were making lovey cooing noises and some say it was Turdy (lol) and they don't know what was going on...... I have never seen Lib so it's hard to understand all this, especially at dark.

Amber, the best we can determine is that it was Turdy and Belle.
We're not sure what's going on either...so many possibilities.
And those were not cooing noises...those were warning chirps, most likely from Belle. We've never heard a peep from Turdy.
Thanks Paula, I trust your input. I really hate that I discovered these sweet eagles at such a bad time, really wish I could have seen them together all these years and seen them raise healthy happy lil eaglets. I have so much to learn..maybe by next year.......

It is so dark on the cam that we
can only say what we think we saw.
Until the morning light will we know for sure. What has been going on has never happened at this nest before so one good thing is that we are witnessing it all together and that makes for lots of thoughts
coming at us. Very confusing!
After being fought out of the nest I thought (prayer) the intruder had decided to go away from this nest. But there in the next again in the dark of night - the intruder appeared.

Amber, the first time Turdy was seen, there were dark spots on her head. The eagle on the left in the nest a while ago had a dark area on their head. That is why we assume it it Turdy.
I've had enough and my mind is going bonkers! I think sleep will help.

Thanks PammySue, Over the past few days I had gotten to where I could tell when Turdy flew into the nest, noticed the dark spots on the head, then tonight I got confused as some were saying it was Lib in the nest with Belle and it was blood on his head and he had been injured earlier when Belle kicked him out of the nest....others say it was Turdy who got the beat down. Since I've never actually seen Lib it makes it hard to know what is what.
Amber, I can tell you that there are a lot of experienced people watching this nest, and they are trying to figure it out as well. But as least they know what eagles they are talking about ie, Turdy, Belle, Lib. They also have a lot of knowledge from watching eagles for several years...most of us here have been here as long as 6 years.
So, we are all learning together...but I think you'll see our thoughts come from a more experienced point of view.
And thank you to all of our new bloggers for joining us, you are most certainly welcome here.
We do not berate each other, we try to learn from each other and listen to their opinions and thoughts and points of view. We are a family here. We'd like for you to stay.
Oh I do Paula, I am so glad I found this site. The one over at the outdoor channel has so many people there who have only been watching since Friday, like me, and they are giving opinions like it is fact. I have seen that a lot of you over here have been watching these sweethearts for many years and if anyone should know "our" eagles it's you guys. Thanks.

Amber, like you, I am far from an expert. I have learned a lot on here. From what I have heard, the forums that are on the live camera feed are not reliable. People THINK they know something, so they just put it out there. That's how crazy stories get started.
I'm sure there are pictures of Turdy somewhere from when she first hopped into the nest--I think it was Thursday. I want to go back and look at them to look at the dark spots. As I said before, I thought they were fairly small, but it is now a large spot.
Amber, this is my 4th year to watch the nest. It is very hard to tell Lib and Belle apart even with great lighting. If they are side by side it is easy. Belle is larger. But, when only one is in the nest it is hard. Paula and Megan do a good job of telling them apart. I have been really working on it and was getting better at it when every thing fell apart.
In the nest tonight it was definitely Turdy as you could see the dark spot on his head. The other bird we assume is Belle. She looked bigger than Turdy.
No one really know for sure.

The events tonight are fascinating to say the least. The cam is so dark at the moment but I can make out Belle's head turning from time to time. I can also hear something at the cam. Not sure what that might be. I can hardly wait until it's light enough to make more out in the image.

We all watch other cams, but this is our A Number one cam. Lib and Belle are our specialty!!!

LOL On the OC cam someone said they thought they had turned the light off on the cam. They do not realize that it was the moon that was lighting every thing up. Plus it is a cloudy night tonight.

Yes, Lori is the one who told me about the photo workshops at CRC, so I checked out their website. I would SO be there if I wasn't already booked up.
I did see the videos, I agree with much of the consensus, I think she has regained her strength and is ready to show this youngster a few things.
I'm a bit torn however. I do feel for Lib and Belle of course, but do feel sorry for Trudy at the same time. Its like a confused teenager going through puberty and not knowing what to do next. Certainly didn't want what happened to happen and am very sad over the loss, but it is a true fact of nature.
Scott, I share your sentiments about Trudy (or maybe it's a Rudy? lol) I watched her earlier today and was thinking she had that "duh" behavior. As though going through the motions that she has seen Belle go through. Moving sticks, etc. Perhaps her "instincts" haven't kicked in and she is still learning? Belle will no doubt give her a lesson or two on "find your own turf!" It will be most interesting to see what the days to come show us. What a learning experience for sure!
I agree that Trudy is acting like a confused teenager. I wonder if all along she just wanted company, even though this is not normal eagle behavior.
Since the dark spot(s) now look different -- previously 2 small spots vs one larger spo, and what also looked like a dark line -- any possibility that both Trudy and Liberty have different dark spots, whether from mottled feathers or an injury? That could account for this unusual behavior at the nest tonight. Maybe it was Liberty with wounds healing from a fight. A longshot, but possible?
Yeah, I've been looking at YouTube videos and there are a couple on there of intruders, and each time they are both posturing and yelling at each other, Trudy has not done that. That bird is so submissive to Belle. Look at today's video where Belle is going off on Trudy. Going for the eyes and clawing Trudy's back. Not one time in the video that I was watching did Trudy come back at Belle. Pure submission.
