Many years ago, one of my students showed me his fake ID card. I told him that he could get in trouble--maybe jail--with that card, and funny thing, he did not come back to class for several days. When he eventually returned, he had acutally gotten locked up over the fake ID card.
I know Judie's criminal psych is a bit more serious than that one, but I won't write about the more serious things I've witnessed tonight. It would be a downer.
Nuts, didn't know it was so late. Wanted to give Deb condolences on poor eagle. But we know it is flying high now ☺
Got my haircut today way down the road---had been there in May & bought 3 electric plug converters for trip overseas at Wallymart. Never used one & had receipt--they took it back after almost 3 mos!!
Daytime in Finland--all chicks are there.I'm naming my capture The 3 Ospreteers!!
I just read way back to find out about the trouble at Andreas. That is just horrible!!!Bet it's kids with nothing to do til school starts. Hope trouble stops.
Night to all, Pleasant Feather Dreams and Good Health to All ☺
Margy, glad you are home...maybe Lib and Belle will show up for you. Did you have a good shopping day with James? What little goodie did he talk you into?
Wanda - James made out pretty good, several pairs of cool trousers, some nice shirts, he still need shoes and the perfect hardy packback. His "Good Boy" present that he spent some of his own money on, was a game for his "DS."
So much news on the Blog today, interesting endeavors by many, busy busy people! I can't keep up with it! Great Lawn Care report by Deb! What a breakthrough!
Best wishes to those preparing for the new school hear.
Received an email from Steve regarding the gunshots Thursday night. A training exercise involving law enforcement, was not actually as close to the nest as it sounded, but they are considering other methods to reduce the noise near the nest microphone. Did not endanger the eagles or the nest at all.
Margy, glad Steve gave an explanation for the gunshots. I really appreciate it when someone replies to our questions and comments. Thanks for emailing him:)
Yes, Wanda Steve's emails are always very gracious. The email came in this afternoon but I was out all day, will re-post that in the morning for the others too.
Yes, Margy, WANDAGENE, fledged yesterday. Gene made a short video of me releasing him. He wanted to stay on my finger, but eventually took off for parts unknown. Will post all the videos tomorrow for those who have never seen a butterfly hatching:)
GOOD NIGHT EVERYONE SLEEP TIGHT PRAYERS FOR ALL ********************************** We will, indeed, miss Judie and Shirley when the go back to school:( They have added so much to our blog, making it more interesting and entertaining than ever:) Love getting NEWBIES!
All is quiet here in Bluefield this morning. We had a stormy night, made for good sleeping.
Tom is doing okay, has an appointment with another surgeon on Thursday. He is working, hard headed like he is. He is not having alot of pain right now.
Hope all is well with ya'll this morning, haven't had a chance to go back and read. Fill me in if I missed anything, would ya please???
GOOD MORNING EAGLE BUDDIES!!!---WOW!--WOW!---nothing could be finer---than having SISSY as our 'EAGLE MOM' today & everyday!--CONGRATS!--Keeping you & TOM in my thoughts & prayers!---STAY COOL!---I agree---EUNICE SHRIVER was quite a lady---She was so dedicated to her work with the SPECIAL OLYMPICS!!--She will sorely be missed!!!
I wanted to ask you if you have seen the SD 'panda cub'---I watch & watch---& I still haven't gotten a glimpse!---If MOMMA BEAR would just turn around!---ho!
Norma, I am doing just fine, thanks for asking. I watch the SD pandas all the time and have barely seen a paw wiggle!! She is definitely keeping that baby the best kept secret ever!!!
One ADULT OSPREY & 2 CHICKS are in the FINLAND NEST---Did you know that KOO--(chick w/broken leg) fledged the other day---I think it is heart breaking to watch---I think NATURENUT may have a pic!!------must start getting dressed--W/CENTER today!
Reckon he has gone for good, huh? I saw a pic that Chrissy sent of Koo flying above the nest. That is just so sad. Nature can be rough sometimes. I learned that the hard way at the beginning of the season with Hornby Island cam and that baby getting killed. I watched the whole thing and haven't watched that cam since.
It was stuck to it's parents leg or foot. The parent jumped all over the nest over and over trying to get it off and couldn't. The chick was screaming and screaming and the parent was too. It was awful. Finally the parent flew off and the chick fell to the ground. It was really horrible, terrible thing to watch and I couldn't stop watching. Just awful.
That would be horrible to watch. I did not know all of that. I had read bits and pieces, but had not put it all together, and I did not know people had watched it happening.
I just took a look at those nests. It is dark at all but the Delta nest and there it is fully light. I would have expected it to be the same at all of them. Very windy at Delta, and you can see cars and buildings since the branch fell.
Good morning all. We had a storm last night that weatherman said no chance. Suzanne just sent an e-mail that you could see the panda cub but she had covered it by the time I got to the site. She will let us see it soon. Don't think mom has eaten yet. When she thinks it is safe she will leave it for a few minutes. Off to get tea.
So happy to know the reason for the gunshots and that the eagles and other wildlife were not the targets. Thank you Steve for letting us know.
Looked at posted pictures and really enjoyed. Thank you Lolly, Loretta, and Gwen.
Hope to see the birth and flight of Wandagene. Yet another natural miracle.
Hope Tom has success with the new surgeon. Sissy, stay healthy.
Sad about Eunice Shriver. She and her husband made some lasting public service commitments.
Did go to SD panda before sleep last night and couldn't believe my luck. Bai Yun sat up and rearranged the cub and for about one second I could clearly see it squirming in her paw.
Unlike poor Shirley, I don't go back until Sept 1st and am only on campus Tuesdays and Thursdays. Other days I am at home prepping for classes and doing house chores.
Sure wish Frank would agree to a lawn service. Have asked him to consider that because we're getting to old and arthritic to keep up.
Have tried to get a hummingbird picture. They keep coming to my flowers, and I have been so close that I hear the whirring of the wings, but they are gone before I can take a picture.
Think that's the baby panda against mom's face now.
One thing I liked about teaching college classes, Judie, was that I only had to be on campus for classes and office hours. Other than that, my time was my own. I could do planning and grading according to my own schedule. No hall
I have thought that when I retire I will do more adjunct work.
Finney nest IS empty right now. Early early this morning ( 3 am?) I saw her leave, was gone for two refreshes, then returned. Let's see how long the nest is empty this morning.
Last Hidey Sighting was Two Fridays ago, Paula has a video on her eagletmomsters blog, a Great Video at that !
Good morning, everyone. I am finally moving around this morning. All cleaned up and ready to go see some birds. Mary and I are off to find a Scissor tail Flycatcher, then of course we will be Osprey watching.
I added some pictures, not the best, but shows some of the birds.
Put a picture of the baby panda on my blog. It isn't perfect. I saw a better view for an instant after I captured this one, but it was only for a couple of seconds.
Stopped in the middle of a sentence on one of my recent comments . . . was going to say this: . . . no hall duty, no cafeteria duty, no writing passes to the restroom.
The annual Perseid meteor shower is expected to put on a good show this week for those willing to get up in the wee hours of the morning and wait patiently for the shooting stars.
In North America, the best time to watch will be between midnight to 5 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 12, but late Tuesday night and also Wednesday night could prove fruitful, weather permitting.
The Perseids are always reliable, and sometimes rather spectacular. The only things that puts a damper on the August show are bad weather or bright moonlight. Unfortunately this week, as the Perseids reach their peak Tuesday and Wednesday nights, the moon will be high in the sky, outshining the fainter meteors.
Still, skywatchers around the globe will have a good chance of spotting the brighter meteors. Some already are enjoying the show.
Finney's nest was bare of all chicks and Mom was straightening up a couple of minutes ago, but now she's gone and the second chick (I think) is back.
Hooded Crow on the Ferry site.
The blog is functional at the San Diego Panda site again, and there are a couple of interesting entries.
Bai Yun is cradling the baby between her paws and breathing warm air onto it ... and frequently licking it ... just like she did with ZZ for many weeks.
How are you doing. What have you seen? Any signs of Hidey these days?
August 12, 2009 Perseids And when we say August 12, we mean that morning … not that night. These typically fast and bright meteors radiate from a point in the constellation Perseus, and, like all meteors in annual showers, they cover a large part of the sky. The Perseids are considered by many people to be the year’s best shower when the moon is out of the way during the shower’s peak. Unfortnately, this year’s moon is not totally out of the way during the Perseids. The slightly waning gibbous moon rises around midnight – just as the Perseids start to pick up steam. Nonetheless, you should be able to catch some Perseid meteors before moonrise – and even after . The Perseids tend to strengthen in number as midnight ebbs toward dawn. Although not a favorable year, these meteors are often bright and frequently leave persistent trains. What’s more, enhanced activity may be in the works, so perhaps enough brighter meteors can overcome the moonlit glare to make this year’s production worthwhile. From late night on Tuesday, August 11 till dawn on Wednsday, August 12, a decent sprinkling of Perseid meteors may adorn this summer night, despite the pesky moon. Lie back and watch meteors until dawn’s light washes the stars, moon and planets from the sky.
Hi Everyone! I'm really going bonkers here! Can't get NCTC or Finney cams on this stoopid puter! CAN read email & saw Suz's message about Koo leaving again around 9:20ish & Mom moving the sticks. She said Chrissy thinks Mom is tidying up so Koo can land more easily! ☺ Nest is probably the only safe place Koo can land.
I lurked this morning - then daughter came to visit - just now I realized I never said Hello to All of You! I am happy about Koo flying - don't know if you can catch a fish with one talon or not!
Sent out an email on Momsters - Yahoo addresses are usually used.. So check your Yahoo account and you will see that 8/17 is a 35th Wedding Anniversary to add to your August list of celebrations! Oh Yeah - it is for Helen aka Mits & Hubby
Be still my heart!!!♥♥♥ Just read an email from Chrissy a little after 12 here & Mom had brought fish & 2 other girls were there, not Koo. And now I read Koo has returned!
Hi gang! Busy day. Lots of local news keeping phone lines humming! Then daughter came w/ lunch and to use my puter.....2nd step in the process for one of the jobs she applied for---keeping fingers crossed!!!
To anyone on Momsters' email list & you don't use/open your Yahoo mail - Follow therse directions and try to change you email address to the one you use daily... Hope it works so you don't miss anything important!

Lynn, is this the Jay Scruggs who did the Vietnam Memorial wall, and what do we do with the illegal aliens who cross our borders with all kinds of disease.....do they wait the allotted time....poor little baby, my heart aches for her
I haven't heard it yet, Sharon, I'll find it later, though. The after Labor day routine worked for me, every year here they go back a few days earlier. The adoption story is heartbreaking. Hope they can afford to eventuallly get the child here, sounds like it could take up to 8 months longer. Stupid....
Mits, that was Jan Scruggs who did the VN memorial. The illegal immigration issue was one of my points when I discussed the situation a few days ago-----how many illegals crossing the Mex border everyday carry virulent TB????? It is indeed a heartbreaker story.
Part of the cub is in view lol What's the nickname going to be? Luney - ZZ - ??
I think due to bad weather and snow days is a reason school starts early.. Don't they know just how many snow days we had that we DID NOT have to use. GO BACK TO WHERE IT USED TO BE! Day after Labor day
I hope the heat has just gotten to Tian and that he is ok....
Hubby just went to pick up "Meatball" She likes to play in my bedroom now with the TV on. She makes Pillow Forts! The oldest cat sleeps most of the time on the bed..I tell Alexis NOT to jump on the bed or Tigress will run away. When I go back and ask 'where is Tigress' she tells me that the cat went under the bed! I wonder why????
I got home from school SO late last night! Slept in this morning, and have been studying and sort of lurking on the blog to try to catch up. Tried to get the Finney nest, but no go. Probably my computer's fault, although Chrissy said that Koo had fledged! She came back, too! She's truly amazing. No sign of any herons today, although I heard some feeding young 'uns late last night. Gardeners have come and gone, and the yard looks good.
Deb, you'll love how much time having a gardener frees up for you! If you feel like trimming something you may, and if not, no problem.
Lynn, so glad Bill's mom is out of the hospital! Prayers for good news about her upcoming test on Friday.
NatureNut, we know who did the shooting--it wasn't juveniles, it was our adult neighbor, who I hope has come to his senses!
Sissy, glad Tom's pain has lessened, but still glad he has the appt. on Thurs. with the other doctor. Prayers for that situation!
Sorry to hear that Eunice Kennedy Shriver has passed on; she's certainly left a lasting legacy with the Special Olympics! She will be missed.
Wish I had time to take your online class, Judie! How much time is involved? I've got Anatomy/Physiology, Pharmacology, and one last Keyboarding class to deal with for fall. Think your class might be doable? I need to figure out my trigger-happy neighbor.
I'll probably be certifiable by the weekend--have to take a quiz on 3 chapters of Med. Terminology tonight, 2 tomorrow, and 2 the next day. Test tonight for Human Diseases class, too! Never a dull moment, it seems. Guess I better go study some more...hope you guys are praying for my memory! Please do!I'll be needing all the help I can get right about now! Many thanks in advance. Will try to get back here tonight, if it's not too late. Have a great day! :o]

We'll miss you, too!!

Late Hi Everyone ☺
I just read way back to find out about the trouble at Andreas. That is just horrible!!!Bet it's kids with nothing to do til school starts. Hope trouble stops.
Night to all, Pleasant Feather Dreams and Good Health to All ☺
Shirley, you will be missed after school starts, but hope you will have a little time in the evenings to hop on and say hi.
Time to say good night. Heading out in the morning, but taking my puter with me.
Found a program on my computer this evening where you can read children's books. Guess what Jacob and I will be doing tomorrow. Whoopee!
Nite all!
Sweet dreams!
Margy, glad you are home...maybe Lib and Belle will show up for you. Did you have a good shopping day with James? What little goodie did he talk you into?
I was over reading blog posts...
Wanda - James made out pretty good, several pairs of cool trousers, some nice shirts, he still need shoes and the perfect hardy packback. His "Good Boy" present that he spent some of his own money on, was a game for his "DS."
I was hoping to see that the Eagles made an appearance, but I guess not :(
They probably spent a lot of time near the water !
Finney chick striking a flattened out pose in the nest, and Finland chick is active at that nest also.
I am really saddened (and horrified in some cases) to read of the animal problems on here today, birds, dogs, and the whale.
And we worry about overseas terrorists? We have them right here on our own soil when they do these inhumane things ! Grrrrr !
So much news on the Blog today, interesting endeavors by many, busy busy people! I can't keep up with it! Great Lawn Care report by Deb! What a breakthrough!

"New School Hear ? ""
make that - new school YEAR !
Yep - I would have to agree that Shirley has had a magnificent and very full summer !
We have so many talents on here, from so many different "walks of life." A truly amazing group we are all a part of.
Time to pick up a few pieces around here, and get ready to water the very thirsty plants.
Be back in a little while.
xo
Oh, I think it is two chicks at Finneys that looks like ONE flattened out chick. Silly me !
Adult at Finland now. Where did the chick go ?
Margy, glad Steve gave an explanation for the gunshots. I really appreciate it when someone replies to our questions and comments. Thanks for emailing him:)
Lolly's pictures of Joseph are great, and also liked Loretta's bunny and robin pictures.
And Gwen's Red Hat Avatar! Pretty Lady!
Yes, Wanda
Steve's emails are always very gracious. The email came in this afternoon but I was out all day, will re-post that in the morning for the others too.
How is baby butterfly doing? Has it "fledged?"
I hear a teasing little noise that at times sounds like a bird at our nest....
Kyra Sedgewick is on the Conant show right now...too bad Mema Jo has already headed for the pillows. She is a beauty!
Yes, Margy, WANDAGENE, fledged yesterday. Gene made a short video of me releasing him. He wanted to stay on my finger, but eventually took off for parts unknown. Will post all the videos tomorrow for those who have never seen a butterfly hatching:)

Good morning my eagle friends!!!
Eunice Kennedy Shriver died. That is so sad. She really made a difference, I believe! Founder of Special Olympics, etc.
Maria looks just like her mother. Don't think I ever realized how much!
Good morning Norma!! Thanks for the prayers, they are certainly working!!!
SISSY---how are you feeling---I pray that you are staying healthy----don't allow your self to get too tired---(i know you won't do that)
ho!--Love ya!
Chrissy sent out a pic the other day that was the best I have seen, most I have seen of that baby for sure!!
Has anyone seen Hiday lately?
One ADULT OSPREY & 2 CHICKS are in the FINLAND NEST---Did you know that KOO--(chick w/broken leg) fledged the other day---I think it is heart breaking to watch---I think NATURENUT may have a pic!!------must start getting dressed--W/CENTER today!
Good morning.
Haven't seen Hidey in a long time.
Maybe MARGY can answer that---I know she has pics of BELLE & LIB attempting to clean up their nest!!
Do miss her MELODIOUS (sp) VOICE? ho!
MORNIN' SHIRLEY!---gotta run---later--
Enjoy, Norma. Catch ya later!!!
Tell me what happened at Hornby. I thought that they found a chick that fell out of the nest.
Just awful.
I think I hear someone above our cam, would love to see an eagle this morning!!
That would be horrible to watch. I did not know all of that. I had read bits and pieces, but had not put it all together, and I did not know people had watched it happening.
Sharon finally told me to turn it off. I hadn't even thought to do that, was just so caught up in it all.
I thought it was impaled on her talon but they said that was not the case, that it was stuck by something sticky to her leg.
That was when the chick was pretty small, wasn't it?
Yeah, it was very small, still white, maybe a couple of weeks or so, I am not sure.
On Google Earth, I see that Delta is a bit east of the other places.
Was the chick that fell the one they call Tiny Tink?
I can't remember what the name was, thought it was Hope or something like that but that may be the one that is still there.
Bai is giving the baby a bath, can see it's little legs!!
She really keeps that baby out of sight!
Boy, she is good at hiding that baby!!
Morning, all.
That was Echo at Hornby that got stuck to Mom. Hope was the eaglet that was left, and she has successfully fledged.
Thanks Paula. I knew someone out there would know. How are ya?
Thanks for the news on the gunshots, Margy. We do hear a lot of distant noise on the cam...trains, planes, etc.
Thanks, Paula. I remember the news of the incident, but I did not know all of the details. That was very sad.
Must take some time to go shower and get some chores done.Need to scrub the bathroom and put out my new stuff.
Thanks, Margy, for the news about the gunshots. We do hear all kinds of things around the nest site.
Right now, I am hearing all kinds of explosions around here. It is some distance away. Wonder what that might be?
We sometimes get Civil War re-enactments nearby.
Good morning, everyone.
So happy to know the reason for the gunshots and that the eagles and other wildlife were not the targets. Thank you Steve for letting us know.
Looked at posted pictures and really enjoyed. Thank you Lolly, Loretta, and Gwen.

Have tried to get a hummingbird picture. They keep coming to my flowers, and I have been so close that I hear the whirring of the wings, but they are gone before I can take a picture.

Nest is probably the only safe place Koo can land.
I lurked this morning - then daughter came to visit - just now I realized I never said Hello to All of You!
I am happy about Koo flying - don't know if you can catch a fish with one talon or not!
Be back later this afternoon
hi ya, Jo:), its meatball day isn't it?
2 chicks at Finney's nest and 2 chicks at Finland nest
Does anyone know if one of the chicks at Finney's is Koo? I think it might be.
I thinks so, because all 3 are at Finney's nest now
mom is back at Finney's nest
Koo made it back!!
Thanks, Mits. There are 3 fledglings and a Mom in Finney's nest now...were only two youngsters a few minutes ago.
Mema Jo, I think you can catch a fish with one foot, but then what do you do with it ... unless you have a nest to perch on as you eat it??
Well, so far so good with the fledging; maybe that one has some more miracles in its bag.

Koo should be renamed Spunky...
has a wonderful look of determination in her eyes, still would like to see her as an educational osprey, if they had the programs there.
nice fish dinner at Finland
c'mon Koo get in there and eat.
Three chicks at Finney's.
I see you already noticed.
Buta is having too much fun!! She is so beautiful!!
and Tai Shan is enjoying a nice frosty tret:)
And, boy, he is enjoying it, isn't he!!
I love me some pandas!!!!

And now I read Koo has returned!
Hi gang! Busy day. Lots of local news keeping phone lines humming! Then daughter came w/ lunch and to use my puter.....2nd step in the process for one of the jobs she applied for---keeping fingers crossed!!!
Hope Finney updates their Nest News about 3rd chick's maiden flight!
All 3 are hunkered down for bedtime!
So glad Koo fledged. Some animals can overcome disablities like humans. Hope Koo can.
Loretta - guess we will need to call her Spunkykoo Someone mentioned it earlier on the blog and I agree. I just want to see her tear into a fish!

Meatball comes up!
(You were right Mits)
Need to go use PC myself now to print out some insurance papers for Bill. Later!
they are calling Tian Tian...to come out of his comfy outside den....it is time to come in for the night
I have never seen Tian so slow to respond to a keeper, he knows there is food if he goes inside...
Koo all alone at Finney's nest
Koo looks like she wants to take off from Finney's nest...hope not, too dark now
hope the keepers at NZ, don't have any plans for tonight, looks like Tian went back to sleep
96 degrees here, heat index 103...cooler today than yesterday:)
Here's a link to the Post article about little Harper and the delay in adoption:
Adoption
Looks like Tai gets his stubbornness honest! :)
lol...yeah the apple does not fall far from the tree.
I have never seen him do this....hope he is not ill.
Lynn, is this the Jay Scruggs who did the Vietnam Memorial wall, and what do we do with the illegal aliens who cross our borders with all kinds of disease.....do they wait the allotted time....poor little baby, my heart aches for her
opps my bad, not supposed to talk politics on the blog...sorry:)
that one just slipped out
School talk...school starts too early now, IMHO, next week here, don't they know it's still Summertime♫♪♪♪♫♫♫
that is just plain un-American....can't they go back to the after Labor Day routine....
Megan, did you know that Train has a new single out today - Hey, Soul Sister? :)
Stupid....
cub in view at SD
keeper is trying again to get him in....
Mits, that was Jan Scruggs who did the VN memorial.
The illegal immigration issue was one of my points when I discussed the situation a few days ago-----how many illegals crossing the Mex border everyday carry virulent TB????? It is indeed a heartbreaker story.
Part of the cub is in view lol
What's the nickname going to be?
Luney - ZZ - ??
I think due to bad weather and snow days is a reason school starts early..
Don't they know just how many snow days we had that we DID NOT have to use. GO BACK TO WHERE IT USED TO BE!
Day after Labor day
that's right, Jan
I hope the heat has just gotten to Tian and that he is ok....
Hubby just went to pick up "Meatball"
She likes to play in my bedroom now with the TV on. She makes Pillow Forts!
The oldest cat sleeps most of the time on the bed..I tell Alexis NOT to jump on the bed or Tigress will run away.
When I go back and ask 'where is Tigress' she tells me that the cat went under the bed! I wonder why????
yeah, Jo, I wonder why:)?
I see Tian scratching.
c'mon big guy, go inside:)
New thread is up! Come on over!
Hi, Everyone!
