Hi, eagle buds! A gray, gloomy morning has turned into another hot, sunny day...more storms forecast here throughout the afternoon and evening. Red, what a wonderful story. Of course, it made me cry, too! Hope everyone is having a great day. Thought for the day from the late George Carlin in RD: "Some national parks have long waiting lists for camping reservations. Well, it looks like I am not going to turn into a panda anytime soon. I have decided to paint Hollie (my black long-haired dachshund) white in places and pretend she is a panda. She is cuddly like a bear. It might work.
Thanks, Norma. It is not often that you look up and right over your head is a great egret. That was fun yesterday, there were so many. If any one knows what the angry chick is, please let me know. I thought it might be a yellow-headed blackbird, but not according to any pictures I have found. It looks like he is chewing out the other bird.
Loved your quote, Sharon. Anne Marie, we just have to remember that we can't control the weather, and we try not to let it control us! My eldest is at the beach this week, and she woke up this am to watch the sunrise, and saw a surfside dawn wedding in progress. How cool is that?

Good Afternoon Everyone...won't even try to name all of you...I'd be sure to forget someone...
It has taken me days to catch up - when will I learn not to go away???
Norma, I saw yesterday you asked about Iceland. My hubby, son and grandson went there 3 years ago for 10 days. They loved it! Rented a car and toured the whole island stayed in Hostels. They did a lot of their own cooking as food was Very Very expensive if you ate out. But they took some wonderful photos, walked on Glaciers, climbed mountains. Sure wish I had gone with them. They saw lots of Puffins, but not to many other birds. A harsh land, but very beautiful!
Back for a minute. Norma I got laid off. Not on vacation. allot of other people got sent home too. after 19 years with that company I am a little confused as to what to do next. right now I am trying to figure out my medical.
Three lucky people from the Norfolk forum got to transport an injured eagle up the the Wildlife Center of Virginia. It sounds like the eagle is in bad shape, but luckily it is now in good hands. Eagle transport
Anne Marie you will be lead in the right direction. Their loss. My husband's plant shut down 10 years ago. Forced him into an early retirement. Good for him in some ways. He does not keep himself busy enough. We are here for you. We will find you a job closer to the nest. LOL
Forgot to add, Deb, I loved your pictures... you do have an eye for photography!!!
Anne-Marie - the letting go is the hard part...but once you do it... it is wonderful! It is so good to know that God is in charge!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MEI XIANG!!!!
Dana, I understand about walking on uneven ground... Every time I do that I pay for it big time. Sure hope you are feeling better now!
Wanda, did I miss an update on Dustin? Our son Mike was diagnosed on Friday with Lyme disease. Sure hope they are both OK with no lasting side-effects!
I am kind of retired now, Anne, but it isn't forever. After 23 years in Retail, I quit last year, took some classes at the University and then promised myself a year of freedom. My year is almost up and then back to reality. I didn't know I would enjoy it so much, but here I am dreading going back to work. The question is what to do next. I thought about going back to teaching, but I can't get excited about it. We'll see, I still have 2 months to go.
I have to tell a story on myself. the night of my leaving work my children called and said we were going out to dinner to celebrate my freedom. I am so worried about finances I wasnt in the mood but they insisted. I cleaned myself up and headed to the place they had picked and they had taken over the place. they had a big sign printed. " My Mommy is an unemployed Bum!" they had the patrons rolling in the isles and it was a night of laughs and jokes. We should have charged an intertainment tax. Thats the way to leave a job!
Thanks Gang, now I think I had take care of some more business. Its stressful but it must be done. I will be back when I need a break and some sanity. Next it my medical. I have got to make sure I get the medical I was promised. BBL
Oh Anne-marie Nebraska storm was the worst I ever saw. I have been in a few. Great story about your unemployment. Deb you have so much talent in photography. I retired for almost a year. Loved it. I work very little now. One day a week most of the time.

Hi, Anne-Marie and Deb, I was up early, opened AOL and emailed Suzanne a couple ... she was at work today, in case you didn't know.
Then I opened a bunch of stuff in FireFox, barely looked at anything before I laid back down for a minute (to rest my back)(I never used to have a sore back, by the way), and you guess the ress. It worked so well, I'm still sleeping while sitting up.
Well, the good news is my Cable hookup is back to its full speed best this morning.
Boy, it was "almost" as slow as dial-up yesterday P.M.! I was googling the Internet for "slow speed tests." Hahahaha.
Anne Marie, so sorry about your job. Great party by your kids! Hope it all works with your medical...I found out last week, along w/ my fellow salaried GM retirees, that they are taking away our health care benefits effective age 65, as of the first of the year. Since I'm already on disability and drawing Medicare, it will probably affect me then, too. Big corps can pretty much do whatever they want--we are just numbers, and they don't want us! Praying for you, and also for your son, Iris! Wanda's Dustin is doing so much better now. Wonderful story from the VA gals about the ill/wounded eagle. Deb, your pics are really good--you SHOULD teach photog! Happy Birthday, Mei!!
ANNE---I am so SORRY--any mention of them calling you back? Didn't you work for the government? This may be a good thing---we never know what will be in store for us!-----enjoy this vacation!!---But I am a bit like you!!---I can't get organized until I get dressed in the am!--ho!----Will keep you in my thoughts---REMEMBER ANNE!!!--YOU GOT SPUNK!!---& DON'T FORGET IT!!!!!!

Hello Everyone....We got thunderstorm before 11 that cancelled 3 programs. (Supposed to come thru tonight...DUH!!)Now it's sunny, hot & humid. Deb, got to look at most of your beautiful pics (takes many minutes to open a pic because this 'puter is not supposed to be able to go online!!!!Don't tell!!) 3 people here say your baby waterfowl is a grebe due to body shape & orange bill. And the hairy has a too long tail for a woody. The mad chick may be a kind of blackbird. Sorry, not much help---guess you gotta be there!!!
tHANKS, Red. I'll look at the recipe later in detail.
This could be connected to our neighbor actually.
She was born in Scotland and emigrated to NZ, where she had at least one sister and her family.
Later she immigrated to the States where she met her old man...in Idaho, I believe. They were quite a couple of characters, had been many places and done many things.
I know she wrote regularly to her family in NZ, so that could easily be the connection.
People who will not share receipes. I am happy when someone says can I have that receipe. My grandmother made the best pieroges. They were not your normal ones they were like a crepe with cottage or ricotta cheese. Have a good receipe for chocolate cheese cake. How did we get off animals? Jo have a good party. I know you will.

Its getting hot! so I closed up the house and will find things that need to be done in here. business is taken care of for a while. EDD sent their mail. they want me to apply for so many jobs a week to be able to receive the money back I have given them for the past 50 years or they wont give me any of my money. something is wrong there.
Wanda, the link I gave you is under Glo's For the love of eagles forum under recipes. Try this link. http://www.hostingphpbb.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=25&mforum=4eaglelovers&sid=3add023751e272b7f3d85b42c79cc0ba
Wanda, glad you finally got to the right site! I had just copied and pasted w/o trouble. Weird what you were getting! Anne Marie--I can remember when I was laid off back in '80...we had to apply to at least three places every week, plus report to the U/E office each week...bummer. But we started drawing monies after the first 14 days off, and we were not required to accept a job that paid less than what we had been making prior to layoff. Thankfully, too, at that time, they had the 26 week extension of benefits because of the overseas job stuff....I think that MAY be in effect again...which would give you 52 weeks, if you can afford to live off what U/E pays (varies by state).
Here is the link that Jo sent to Eaglet_Momsters email - just in case some of you don't subscribe... Learn the rest of the story http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/25797678/from/ET/
Be sure to get it all on one line when you copy it...
Update on pictures I posted. The babies I thought might be cormorants and Loretta thought might be grebes. We were both wrong. They are baby coots. Who knew that they start with orange heads and beaks and grow up to have black heads and white beaks? Not me.
We call them "mud hens" or coots here and they are in every pond, lake and river in the state. They can be a pest. Not even coyotes will eat them if they have another choice.
Hedgie my paper work said something of the same. At 66 I'm not over ancious to beat the sidewalks again. Now it Mits would find me a rich sugar daddy I wouldnt have to.
We have them all year round . many birds just stay here. Oh and by the way, I bought a small bird book to go in my camera case in Yosemite and found what was a Bluebird is a Bunting. I was so thrilled to have seen a Bluebird and it isnt.
Today is Mei Xiang's tenth birthday! We celebrated by rewarding her with two two-foot-long pieces of sugarcane, after coming out this morning for an ultrasound. It was a great effort on Mei’s part but once she entered the training cage, she settled down and cooperated for the procedure. She ate everything offered to her, although she did it in her slow and sleepy mode.
She is still keeping us guessing on all fronts: hormones, behavior, and ultrasound. After yesterday afternoon's observations—she cradled her Kong toy and licked her paw a couple of times—there were no pregnancy behaviors again until this morning. At 5:50 a.m. she was playing with her Kong toy, cradling and chewing it for five minutes.
To give you a sense of what our vigilant volunteer behavior watchers take note of, here is a list of this morning's observations:
5:50 – 5 min cradling, chewing Kong 5:57 – 2 min shredding bamboo 6:05 – 1 min shredding bamboo 6:19 – 4 min paw lick 9:01 – 1 min bamboo shredding 10:24 – 5 min paw/arm lick 10:36 – 5 min paw/arm lick
These behaviors are somewhat encouraging, although the episodes are brief. Mei Xiang is still leaving the den to rest on the rocks in the exhibit enclosures.
What to Expect if Mei Is Expecting We wanted to let our pandas' fans know our plans for the panda cams and exhibit if Mei Xiang gives birth to a cub this year. The web cams will be turned off if we believe a birth is imminent. We will turn them back on soon after the birth but we cannot say exactly when. (We may think a birth is imminent and later learn that Mei experienced a pseudopregnancy.) If Mei has a cub, the indoor panda habitat will be closed for several weeks to months. The outdoor portion of the Fujifilm Giant Panda Habitat will be open to the public. We will work as expeditiously as possible to share all the news with you. WHAT TO EXPECT IF THERE IS A BIRTH
Computers - sometimes ya love 'em, other time ya hate 'em! Today, I hate 'em. Been working on internet problem at work - sort of working, but it's tenuous. It's a he said/she said situation. Then it messes up everything else! Forgive me if I don't spend too long on the computer tonight...a glass of something on the deck is more inviting at this point!

Cheesecake! The Red Bird Restaurant in Keedysville MD used to make THE BEST cheesecake, and their stawberry pie was equally good. Don't think you can get either one there now....so why even go ?
DEB - have viewed your new pictures. Awesome yellow-headed black bird, and I love the over head Egret shot....all the photos are nice...
I enjoyed the other notes today, not just the food ones !!!
We are lucky to get a big white egret up this way from time to time, saw one not far from where Wanda lives a few years ago, and last year was watching one in a pond in Jefferson County along Middleway Pike. I believe it was a Great Egret but had some characteristics of a Snowy Egret too..it was hard to get a good view without scraring it off.

Prayers and hugs for all!
Deb, I just took a visit with your pictures. boy when you retire you have another trail you can travel. You are good.
GOOD MORNING, EVERYBODY..
C(°ﮡ°)D
Jim
good Morning Mits. Are you at the beach still?
Hi Jim, I never get to say good morning to you. This may be fun after all.
Iris my only daughter had Lyme and she was 17. It gave her a few problems at first but she is fine now. My prayers are for him and Dustin.
Deb, what about teaching photography at an adult or senior center?
yes Anne-Marie, still at beach, but packing up to come home now, watching an approaching storm, that may delay my departure
Be careful Mits. Your safe if you stay put until its over. Your kind of storms scare me to death.I have never seen rain like that before.
That sounds like it was a fun night, Anne.
Paula must still be without internet at work, she hasn't been on today.
Our nest looks so pretty and shady but it is ugly because it is MT!
Anne-Marie, I love what your kids did for you. What great kids!!! Must mean they have a GREAT MOM!!!
IRISF----I so enjoyed meeting the kids from ICELAND----I would love to go visit!!---Asked so many questions---ICELAND sounds like a wonderful place to visit!!----Talked about their SNOW or WHITE TAILED EAGLES & PUFFINS--told us about PTARMIGAN birds--grouse family--are a white bird, which I think they eat!!----They do work relating to computers---they are
out of college--still kids to me! ----The kid that was a native, said his family had been in ICELAND since 940--!!
I think I might be able to retire by 2050!
Hi, Anne-Marie and Deb,
I was up early, opened AOL and emailed Suzanne a couple ... she was at work today, in case you didn't know.
C(°ﮡ°)D
Jim
I'm glad you're taking the Unemployment thing so well, Anne-Marie.
What's the next opportunity you are planning to partake of?
C(°ﮡ°)D
Jim
No new update on Buddy yet...still!
getting ready to go soon, taking laptop with me, may are may not be able to hook it back up:(, not good with these manual things.
Be careful Mits!! Show us some purty pics tomorrow on those babies.
I can't seem to find any newer update on Buddy's condition than 7/17. Am I doing it wrong?
C(°ﮡ°)D
Jim
DEB---Wonderful story about the GOOD SAMARITANS!!----Bet they would pay to be able to take the injured EAGLE to the vet----ho!----Read that the girl was so excited that an EAGLE has been her pick-up truck!!----I WOULD BE TOO!!---SOMETHING ABOUT AN EAGLE!!!!!!!!
Don't think you are doing anything wrong, Jim. No update on site since the 17th.
JIM---I was checking yesterday & that was the latest update then!!!
Jim, Have not seen any updates on Buddy since last week. Norma they said it enjoyed the air conditioning.
Morning, Deb, Norma.. What's wrong with that eagle they hauled to the center in the pickup??
C(°ﮡ°)D
Jim
Both of the sisters have returned to WE, hoping for lunch to be delivered.
C(°ﮡ°)D
Jim
JIM---They just said the EAGLE was badly injured!!---Did you see DEB'S note!!
lunch time--
Okay, I think they have cam 1 on Tai and cam 2 on Tian??? Reckon that means something?
As soon as I typed that, they put cam 2 on the birthing den but nobody there.
I've been lurking off and on
Getting dinner food & the house ready for d-i-l b-day this evening.
Instead of ice cream cake or regular cakes - we'll have Cheese Cake!
I've been reading through comments I missed and I am so proud to be a member of this group that shows so much compassion & support to those when they need it the most!
We are one heck of a group
Good mo../fternoon..

Jim
Good afternoon Jim!! How's it going?
Mema Jo, I am so proud to be part of this most awesome group that came from 2 mighty eagles!
Hello Everyone....We got thunderstorm before 11 that cancelled 3 programs. (Supposed to come thru tonight...DUH!!)Now it's sunny, hot & humid.
Deb, got to look at most of your beautiful pics (takes many minutes to open a pic because this 'puter is not supposed to be able to go online!!!!Don't tell!!)
3 people here say your baby waterfowl is a grebe due to body shape & orange bill. And the hairy has a too long tail for a woody.
The mad chick may be a kind of blackbird. Sorry, not much help---guess you gotta be there!!!
Hi Jo. I was wondering where you were. Love cheesecake and I like pie better than cake. Great group we have here.
Yeah, well, I like cake, pie, cheesecake AND ice cream better than either of you...
So there.
P.S. Chocolate chip cookies with walnuts like Mama used to make too.
Also, the kindly next door neighbor used to make an absolutely delicious thing called by her sons and us kids "fly cemeteries."
C(°ﮡ°)D
Jim
She hasn't done it recently, but my sister learned from that kindly next door neighbor how to make a fabulous chocolate cream pie.
C(°ﮡ°)D
Jim
I personally love peanut butter pie and oatmeal butterscotch cookies! I can't make the pie but I can make the cookies!
I love you too Jim!! but I sure love my desserts!
Will you please try to describe the
"fly cemeteries"
Glad I have my 3:00 half cup coffee to curb my hunger for dessert....lol
We are due a visit from Bob Quinn
I am thinking we haven't heard from him since he was on a week's vacation
I sure could be wrong!
I think you're right Deb in that Paula's pc at work isn't running on the network. Won't hear from her until she arrives at home.......
Don't know about that one Jim. I love desserts.
"Fly cemeteries" are made on a cookie sheet...I don't know how to make them, but I wish I did right now ....
She would put a layer of very flaky pie crust top and bottom on a layer of cinnamon-raisin pie filling (her own recipe).
After baking, she would cut it into largish squares or rectangles.
Geez, they were good.
C(°ﮡ°)D
Jim
P.S. I don't know if she baked the lower sheet of crust first or not.
You've heard of sheet cakes. This is a delicious sheet pie.
C(°ﮡ°)D
Jim
Fly Cemeteries:- Referred to in Cookery books as Fruit Squares
http://recipes.stsams.org/recipes/flycemet.html
Well, I talk to you later.
Got to take care of some business around here.
C(°ﮡ°)D
Jim
tHANKS, Red.
C(°ﮡ°)D
Jim
Thanks red. I take it back Jim. The name is strange but the receipe sounds great.
Now all we need is someone to volunteer to whip of a batch of those
Fly Cemeteries...
I had to go down to the bank and it has turned into One Hot Hot Day out there!
Hey Jim, checked out the recipe Red found....if I can convert the metric measures, I'll make it for you in October with our wonderful local apples!!
Jo, my brother-in-law makes an awesome cheesecake! Of course, they live in Missouri now so I never get any! Have a fun party!
I should have said that b-i-l won't share his recipe...boo!
I have recipe for the worlds greatest cheesecake. lol Really I do. you can find it at:
http://www.hostingphpbb.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=149&mforum=4eaglelovers
Just sent a Momster email to all of you.... Belle Baker sent it to me so I would forward it... It's the rest of the story.
How Christian the lion became a YouTube sensation
I will return this evening.....
Dinner needs some final touches...
Peace
HELLO EVERYONE...I've been busy today; no time for 'puter.
RED, you are full of CHEESECAKE!
Red, that recipe sounds better than the kind w/ graham cracker crust!! Will have to give it a try. Thanks!
Wanda, I resemble that remark. Hedgie the crust on this one is hard to make but delicious.
Red, I went to the URL that you gave us, and it was foreign language. My apologies...I will try again.
This is what I am getting:
K-Studio::
Its getting hot! so I closed up the house and will find things that need to be done in here. business is taken care of for a while. EDD sent their mail. they want me to apply for so many jobs a week to be able to receive the money back I have given them for the past 50 years or they wont give me any of my money. something is wrong there.
Wanda, that must be the recipe for Wing Dings!!! LOL.
Anne Marie--what's EDD??
Unemployment Hedgie
Jims raisen stuff sounds like raisen bars. havent made them in years. Use to make them with mince pie filling.
(raisin), sorry, I cant type today

West End two eaglets waiting for dinner.
Lynn, that is REALLY what I came up with, using the URL that Red gave us. He hit and ran...Red come back. Tell me I am not crazy!
Red, my mouse and cursor must have a VIRUS...still getting nothing. Lynn how did you get through to the receipe?
Better yet, try this one. Scroll all the way down to Recipe and help yourself, They're all Free. lol

Try this, Wanda:
Red's Recipe
Deb, you are wonderful! Thanks.
RED...sounds delicious; I noticed that this is low calorie! LOL
Thanks Deb. Now tell me how you did the link. That makes it much simpler.
Hi, its me....Mits, I'm home, and it is HOT, left the beach and it was a nice breezy 80 and here it is 96:(
Not low calorie. Also not cheap.
Red, check your mail. I sent it through Kent forum system, hope that works.
Thanks Deb.

Be sure to get it all on one line when you copy it...
Deb, could you send me the "how to" email too?
Update on pictures I posted. The babies I thought might be cormorants and Loretta thought might be grebes. We were both wrong. They are baby coots. Who knew that they start with orange heads and beaks and grow up to have black heads and white beaks? Not me.
what a coot!!!!!:):):):)
Iris, check your mail.
Don't you have them there? They are almost all black, except I white beak. I will get a picture.
American coot
We call them "mud hens" or coots here and they are in every pond, lake and river in the state. They can be a pest. Not even coyotes will eat them if they have another choice.
Hedgie my paper work said something of the same. At 66 I'm not over ancious to beat the sidewalks again. Now it Mits would find me a rich sugar daddy I wouldnt have to.
I'll take a rich sugar daddy, too. Only I want mine to let me do whatever I want to do! lol
I checked, the coots are mainly west, but can be found in the east. We don't have them in the winter.
We have them all year round . many birds just stay here. Oh and by the way, I bought a small bird book to go in my camera case in Yosemite and found what was a Bluebird is a Bunting. I was so thrilled to have seen a Bluebird and it isnt.
Anne Marie...can you draw U/E and Social Security? That would probably be pretty good!
Need to check on my watering. BBL
I'm not sure I can. I have widows benefits from my husband.I'm figure it all out in the end.
July 22
5:50 – 5 min cradling, chewing Kong
5:57 – 2 min shredding bamboo
6:05 – 1 min shredding bamboo
6:19 – 4 min paw lick
9:01 – 1 min bamboo shredding
10:24 – 5 min paw/arm lick
10:36 – 5 min paw/arm lick
These behaviors are somewhat encouraging, although the episodes are brief. Mei Xiang is still leaving the den to rest on the rocks in the exhibit enclosures.
2ND UPDATE FOR TODAY AT ZOO
What to Expect if Mei Is Expecting
We wanted to let our pandas' fans know our plans for the panda cams and exhibit if Mei Xiang gives birth to a cub this year.
Evening, all!
Hope everyone is well!
Oh, and not caught up on blog or emails....
MT nest....
and has anyone emailed Steve that the live feed is down? If so, has he answered about it??
Thanks!
WOW!----I am taking my garbage out & I just started reading about all the CHEESECAKE recipes!!!----I kill for CHEESECAKE!!---count the calories & it makes one lose the taste for it!-----KIDDIN'--
Just going to try this as both Deb and Red sent me the "how to"

Good Evening Everyone...gosh, how come I want dessert all of a sudden ??
DEB: You seem to have a knack for catching the adults on the nest...
Could your work your magic right about now ?
Whatever he/she had in the nest is just a memory now that's for sure...
WELCOME HOME MITS...HOPE YOUR RE-ENTRY INTO INLAND LIFE GOES SMOOTHLY...
CONGRATS!! IRISF!----I wish I could learn how to do that---But as SCARLETT says----'i'll worry about that tomorrow'!!
That was a beautiful story---hard to believe isn't it!----nature!!!!
HEY MAGPIE!!---That would be a toss-up!!-----I DIE FOR STRAWBERRY PIE TOO!---ho!
All that cheese cake talk must have done it...
are we back up yet ?
West End girls striking a beautiful pose...
Nice buck deer at PIX
And the Spidey Gates are closing up things at OUR NEST...
There was an egret that frequented a pond on Butts Mill Rd. for the six years that I traveled it everyday, Margy.
Yep...blogger back up!
HEDGIE: Was it always ALONE?
Yes, it was.
I always wondered about that...whenever I have seen them around here they are alone..guess that's why I don't see very many of them...
One of the WE ladies has flown off...
good evening everyone
hope all are in fine spirits tonight
As Jim says, it's kind of Rembrandty at that nest at times, like now.
