Monday

Good Morning.

As you can see the cam has been centered on the nest.  We hoped to either move the cam mount up a bit, or try a different limb, but that was not possible this year.  The limb that the cam is on continues to deteriorate, and other live limbs are not big enough.

We plan a full upgrade of the cam next year, and we will engineer a mount that will allow for the optimum view.

Thanks again to our friend Nu, who was up in the nest for his ninth year.  The guy is fearless as he is hoisted up on a crane cable.

New thread.

Good Morning Eagle Buds !!!

Wowee, zowie ! Many thanks to NU, STEVE and the NCTC staff ! The new aka NU NEST View is wonderful ! Looking forward to the camera upgrade next season, too.

And, thanks to STEVE for the new thread and to eagle eye JO for the call over. Your feathers are really adding up !

JUDIE, happy canning day---how grand it will be to have luscious tomatoes this coming winter.

SANDI, I'd love to think every one of those 382 days will be dandy and trouble free. May you weather any rough spots with your usual poise and grace !

SHIRLEY, hope you soon find that fourth for the bowling team and that you'll enjoy another great year in the Alley !

Autumn approaches and provides for many new beginnings. Wishing all much success.

Has LORI reported wha'sup on FB since graduation ?

This is truly a "dog days of summer" week and I haven't anything extra planned.

Love and prayers for all !!!

Good morning! As always, feeling a little funny on the first day of school! In some ways missing the excitement! About this time I would be teaching the children how to walk in a line and I would be walking backwards! Lol

AC is out in Jack's shop. Repairman coming this afternoon. Tomorrow Jack goes to a ear and nose specialist. He has continuous congestion, also it is way past time for a hearing aid! Think I have finally convinced him. Did you know I mumble all the time? Lol

Wed he gets serious work done on his mouth. Preparing the gums to replace a crown. Ouch! Soup for dinner Wed.

Nothing on the agenda for me but serious Lollypaloozing!

Lolly said...

Just took a peek at the cam. That is a much better view! Thanks Steve, Nu, and crew!

FB Per Lori
(Hope Lori doesn't mind my putting her info on here for all of us ♥)

August 19
No time to change the world this week - though I do like the thought! Working on moving stuff from MD to PA this week and next, and of course, studying for the test to get my nursing license.

August 23rd
I just packed up my Maryland house and sent it to storage in PA.

Mema Jo said...

All we need to make this day perfect is a visit from Belle and Shep

I guess we best not hold our breath!

Kay said...

JO, thank you so much for the LORI report! Since she posted that on FB I'm sure she doesn't mind your sharing it with those of us who haven't chosen to go there. Packing up her belongings from the MD house, etc. had to be time consuming and an emotional challenge. I'll be praying for her as she prepares for the licensing procedure. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

Getting lots of First day school pics on FB - Shirley did anyone get Hunter's picture before he went to the bus? Perhaps you can tell us how colorful he was! I hope he has a great year in school! Will he be playing football again this fall or have they started practicing already?

stronghunter said...

Hunter's first day is not until the day after Labor Day, Jo.

stronghunter said...

If I get a picture, it will be in the house or without Hunter's knowledge. I am sure he won't want me to follow him to the bus stop. We will see.

Good afternoon my eagle budlets. Hope all is well with your world!

Jo, how is Michael?

Eagle-Eyed Shar said...

I had to take my brother-in-law's Basset hound to the vet to let him run across the Rainbow Bridge. Poor fella was so old and just not well at all. I held his little head in my heads, stared into his eyes and let him know that he was loved and was being set free. Such a spiritual experience. He is buried in the yard beside Buddy the Basset. I want to get a wooden carved sign that has Basset Hound Hill on the top and then Bandit and Buddy's names underneath.

Sandi said...

Hi all. Thanks Steve and everyone at NCTC for the new and improved cam view! Now if we just continue to have our eagle pair using this nest.

Well my first day of school did not go well at all. I was in the bathroom 4 times before I left this morning. Took some Immodium and hoped I would be OK. By 10am I thought for sure I was going to puke, also had chills and a killer headache. Made it til lunch time then managed to drive home. Slept for 2 hours. When I woke up my stomach felt a little better but the headache is still awful! I haven't been sick like this in years!!

Hopefully it's just a 24 hour thing.

Later.

August 25 2014 - I was talking with Steve Chase this morning; the cam maintenance was completed ... (thanks Nu) they were not able to move the cam so they centered the cam on the nest as best as they could for now ... next year they plan to replace the entire cam system including an engineered mount to allow for optimum viewing.
If you would like to make a donation to help support the cost of the new cam system you can make your donation via the Friends of the National Conservation Training Center ... see link below
http://www.friendsofnctc.org/
Thanks to Nu who did the cam maintenance and to all the good folks at NCTC for all that they do to keep us connected to this beautiful bald eagle family...and thanks to everyone making a donation to help with the purchase of the new cam system that is planned for 2015...together we will reach our goal!!!

JudyEddy said...

To donate money for cam Deb S posted on FB above is info here is link

Mema Jo said...

JUDY - take a minute to read my remark to Deb's comment......

I had asked Deb a question about the donations: how does a person designate that their donation is Specifically used for the upgrading of the Eagle Cam? Any chance this was discussed with Steve? the donation form states "NCTC's important conservation training work and other conservation programs" of which there are so many. In the past when the Eaglet Momster group for the NCTC nest made a group donation we designated the Cam ...

I suggest we get a reply from Steve before making donations that the Friends of NCTC won't know it is for the CAM.........

Mema Jo said...

Feel better soon Sandi. Hope it is short lived!

Sharon - Michael is up/running.
I think he is good for a lot more miles.

Jo, so happy Michael is better. He's my backup in case Darth runs off with some sweet young thing.

Sandi, so very sorry your first day at school was so awful. Hoping you are already feeling better.

Oh, Sandi, so sorry!

Have talked with Laurel and all had a great day! Wahoo!
Last week Laurel met Jacob's teacher, told her he was tall. Obviously the teacher had no idea what Laurel meant but handled it well. You all have to understand, my Jacob is taller and bigger than most 6th graders and he is starting 4th grade. Laurel did say she has a student who is probably 6 ft. She sees a problem. I today her, and she agreed, that she has all the qualifications to talk with her new student. I talked with Joseph, who is at a new school, and he sounded happy! Yea for all the family!

Judie said...

Um, Lolly? How many glasses of wine have you enjoyed on the patio tonight? lol Glad everyone had a good first day back at school.

so exciting about the cam! I wonder...how high IS the nest ?? it looks very very high in that tree...certainly higher than i'd consider going into any tree!

SANDI: hope you are feeling better!

SHAR: so sorry! your idea sounds lovely...

JUDIE: sounds as if you have busy day!

I have had a productive day myself.

I cleaned the house from front to back, did laundry....and our bountiful baskets came in Saturday, so I froze green peppers, corn, and carrots. I felt most productive. Made a heck of a mess in the kitchen while I was doing it....thankfully saved cleaning the kitchen for the very last!

Olivia worked extremely hard today and so as a reward we went out to Opry Mills Mall. (I am not a mall person). We walked around, had a cookie and she had a coffee. I guess we spent a couple hours there....

Back to work tomorrow. I do less work at work!!!! Going to work is ALMOST a day off for me!

Hope everyone rests well! SED, hugs and smiles to all!

Hi,

Really have to wind down. I'm supposed to have Luna at the vet's for surgery at 7:30 AM. She is having a nasty cyst removed.

I did try soaking the bee nest. The spray I get at the store just does not work. Kathryn's research says that it probably won't. They recommend soaking the nest, so I tried. Just have to be very careful so close to the foundation or we will have a flooded basement. I went out after dark so the bees would be in the nest. Supposedly it might just make them move elsewhere.

I hope they move far from here. Supposedly, they are good pollinators. Just can't have them stinging people who come to my house.

They don't seem awfully aggressive when it comes to stinging, but one did sting me.

Tommy says the stuff his company uses costs $150, and I told him that I will let him know, but I would prefer to take care of them myself.

stronghunter said...

So sorry about Bandit, Sharon. He will enjoy playing with Buddy. Basset hounds are so sweet.

Update on Lauren from her Mom, Tammy:

Good Morning! Wanted to share our good news this morning. Lauren Brandon is being moved out of the ICU to a step down unit. After only four full post-op days!! This represents many accomplishments (weaning of several IV medications, several tubes & lines have been removed, along with other criteria she had to achieve).

Lauren has been amazingly strong in her determination and strength, both physically & spiritually. I would not be sharing the entire picture without saying she has had hours of intense suffering with pain of different types. Both day & night.

Yet, through it all we cry, pray, focus, and discuss all our many blessings. The nurse indicated last night that she bet we would all go on a big vacation to celebrate. Now while that certainly sounds amazing and is on our agenda, I had teared filled eyes and said, "I can't wait just to sit outside at home and look over and not see my girl so sick". That is my victory!

Today will be another busy day, hopefully filled with lots of rest in between. We have been up most all days and even the nights since in the unit. Lauren is looking better than her mom & dad now --- and that is exactly what we want!!!

Have a blessed day friends!

Got Luna delivered to the vet's. Stopped at the auto repair shop to have my brakes checked, and it turns out that I need some expensive work done. Having song of it done now. Brakes are important.

Jo, enjoy seeing the world of newsprint more clearly.

Hoping Sandi is feeling much improved this morning.

Shirley, hope all goes easily with Luna today.

Sunshine and cool this morning here.

Not much on today's agenda. May try to tidy up the oriental in the kitchen with pinking shears then roll it up. Maybe make some pasghetti sauce.

Have a lovely day everyone.

SHIRLEY, thinking of Luna with hopes for a quick rebound after surgery! Glad you got those brakes checked---yes, they ARE important!

JO, glad you'll soon be enjoying your morning newspaper to the fullest! I can't imagine starting my day without the Columbus Dispatch. I wind up my news session with their two crosswords and a word search and don't feel real good about the day unless I get that start! Creature of habit.

Hmmm, JUDIE, canning tomatoes yesterday and preparing pasghetti sauce today. Your kitchen must smell like heaven!

Good morning!

Shirley, Joseph is always the tallest around but certainly not the biggest! He is 5' 9" but still a bean pole!! Jacob on the other had is soooo BIG! Apparently his teachers eyes bugged out when she saw him!! Bought shirts last week at the museums. Joseph's is adult medium and Jacob's adult large. LOL He is 9 for petes sake! His dad wears XXX Tall, Jacob is headed that way!

So during the night I knew Skippi was on the bed. Pulled the sheet over my head so she would not comes and expect to be petted. I was on my back, she sat right on my face! I giggled!

Very hot this week but we have a break in the temps coming and a slight chance of rain. Praying!

It is amazing how green it is for August. That 3 inch rain was amazing, but need much much more!

Friends who have winery in Napa....their wine is okay and so are the caves. Their winery is in a cave, however their home suffered damage.

My mother died 8 years ago this week. Thinking of her and missing her. We lived 500 miles apart, but I called her every night. It took me a long time to get over that routine.

Time to start my day! Yeah, I am slow but I have been outside for a while. Gotta do anything early before the extreme heat sets in.

Mema Jo said...

Just finished lunch - love those home grown tomatoes....

I keep checking our still cam in hopes of seeing a white head or tail. No luck so far....

Then I came back to school and ate lunch. maybe I shouldn't have - feeling queasy again now.

Freyja didn't get sick, but Brian did. Since Lynnis was sick last week, I'm thinking Brian was incubating it and brought the virus to the beach. He is feeling better today as well.

Hi, Everyone,

Many thanks to Steve, and Nu, and the whole NCTC crew who keep our cam up to snuff!! The plans for next season sound good!

Thinking of Wanda & GG & family today. ((HUGS!))

Shar, so sorry about Bandit. Bet he's met up with Buddy by now!!
Really like your idea for a wooden sign. Prayers continue for Lauren. Sounds like she's really making excellent progress!
God is SO good!!!

Sandi, hope you're feeling 100%, really soon!

Jo, prayers continue for you, as always. Hope you continue to feel well during chemo.

Shirley, have been thinking of Luna. Prayers that she'll bounce back quickly.

Well, the weather here is hot again, but at least the humidity is only about 25%. It's 93 here right now, but it could be worse!

I got a boatload of medical reports to transcribe from the doctor, so may be a little scarce around here for a couple of days.
Will hopefully be able to stay caught up and maybe say a quick hello or two. Hope everyone has a wonderful evening!
Oh--hello, Margie, wherever you are! Miss you!
I ♥ us!!!

Good evening to all ♥

It was a very long afternoon - didn't get home until 5:00. Then my
feet went up in the recliner and I was sound asleep for about 2 hrs.
I am comfortable - I go back tomorrow
at noon for the second of three rounds. Within a week or two I will get CT and then I may be sent to Radiation treatment. We are making progress - Your prayers and good vibes are working! Thank you again and again. ♥

I was just chatting with Deb Stecyk and thanked her for getting the ball rolling with Friends of NCTC donations for the Eagle Cam System.
With our Blog Group and then all 3 or 4 FB sites aware of this - NCTC should have enough money to give us the best cam system out there!

IF you have FB - please go to Wanda's
profile and read (With Kleenex handy) her post for today to Gene.
She is one strong Tiger!

Thank you for checking in JO.
God Bless you and keep you.
Prayers continue for you and MICHAEL.

We paddled hard.
So many with injuries.
We are missing 5 out of 20!
That boat is heavy!!!
We did it though and we are pleased.

Getting things finalized for the Kootenay Spurit Festival.
Did I tell you the Fire Chief approved our safety plan?
I felt so relieved.

Getting on to say good night. Jack is doing very well after his dental work today. They removed gum and bone to get his tooth ready for a crown. He took only one pain pill and ate an omelet tonight.

I did some work in the yard and ran some errands.

Everyone continues to say school is going great! Wahoo!

Jo, thanks for reporting in. Prayers for you continue! We, yes, "we " are going to beat this thing!

Night all! SED

Very glad JACK is doing well.
He has been in my prayers too.

Good night
God Bless

Goodorming my eagle friends.

Jo, steady as she goes! Good luck today with your chemo - I'll be thinking of you.

Janet, just read an article in the online news that Nashville has been labeled the "most American" metropolitan area, meaning its demographics most closely mirror the US as a whole.

Shar, will be checking Facebook later today for photos from you and Bev from the eagle release - what lucky ladies!! Enjoy!

Judie, any word on new homes for Audrey and Grace?

Judy, has Jordyn started back to school yet? If so, does she like it?

One more day for me til my long weekend starts - another full day of meetings - UGGHH! New principal seems nice enough - young, energetic.

Have agreat day all.

morning all.

SANDI: we do indeed have a very diverse city. neat information to know!

another day straight ahead. last night I was trying to put together this thing for work. they want us each to make a page, like a scrap book page with pix, no people please for security, of things about us, that represent us. clients like to know a bit about the person working on them. mine turned out pretty ugly. I will continue working on it...

anyway, hope everyone has a good day!

Good morning,

Back-to-school business day today for Hunter and Kathryn. Time to meet teachers, buy gym suit, etc. I will let Kathryn take care of things today.

Just spilled a bucket of soot on my back steps. Yuck. Will have to get it all cleaned up.

What time is too early to use a vacuum cleaner if you live in a flat?
I thought 4,5 are too early!
Is 6 still too early?
Garbage done. Recycling done. Kitchen cleaned and tidied. Bathroom done. Laundry done.
Wished I could vacuum.

Prayers go with you JO.
Love you.

SHAR post pictures of eagle release please.

Schools in BC are closed till further notice.
Very sad situation.
The BC Gov't just got fined AGAIN 2million dollars for violating contracts. The first time less than a year ago was 3 million dollars!!! They propose to pay each child 40$ per day for as long as school is out.
Talk is till after Thanksgiving!!! 12 October, around Colombus Day US calendar!!! What a mess!!!
Can we say dismantling public education and a students right to a free and quality education???
Shaking my head!!!
