Cheetah Cub Update:

A few nights ago, Meg took the cubs out of the birth den for approx 12-16 hours. We didn't know if and when they would return. They have now come back inside, but could leave again at any moment. We will be launching an exterior camera next week, so that you can continue to watch the cubs grow. Till then, don't miss your chance to see them one more time in the birth den.

Hi all - home from a good morning of tennis.

Thanks Steve for a new week thread and thanks Jo for the call over.

Thanks everyone for the birthday wishes, here and on Facebook. Since you're only as old as you feel and I don't feel one bit older than I did 10 years ago, I am proclaiming that today is my 50th birthday!! :) It's my special day, so I can do that, right???

Clouds and sun in the forecast for much of this week, along with some liquid sunshine possible each day. This should be the last busy traffic week since many school districts start next week. While I'm not ready for my summer vacation to end, I am ready for the tourists to leave.

Off to find something to keep myself busy - maybe the book I just downloaded to my Kindle.

Later!

Good afternoon all my eagle budlets. Thought I had better check in.

Happy birthday Sandi!!

Happy birthday Candy!!

Not sure if I posted anything here but on Friday, I went in for my hip injection. They took me to the operating room where I laid on the table for 45 minutes waiting for the doc to arrive. They couldn't give me anything to relax me yet because the doctor has to come in and specifically ask which extremity is going to be worked on and then he marks it with a Sharpie. They started giving me something to calm me and I was out like a light. I woke up in recovery and they took me back to my room. Next up was that I had to go pee. Well, the nurses were there to make sure I didn't stagger when I stood up. Good thing they were because when I stood up, my leg had turned to rubber. I couldn't stand on the leg at all. They called the doc to make sure that was normal and it supposedly was. Anyway I called my sister-in-law to see if she had a walker I could use and she did so my friend Angel took me to get the walker. By the time I got there, I was really about to pee again and so I tried using the walker to get into Jeannie's house. Almost wiped out because I couldn't do steps at all. We got back in the car with the walker, drove to a nearby Go-Mart where there were no steps to the bathroom. Then I came home and couldn't figure out how I was going to get into the house. I remember Thelma had a big knee brace, so we put that on my leg to stabilize the knee and that is how I made it into the house. The next morning I could walk on it again. It really skeered me. Today is a much better day except I feel wiped out. I got rid of the pain pills this morning (yay) and now I feel like I have crashed and burned. Wore slam out.

Judie said...

Hey, Shar. Glad everyone turned out well and you are now headed for full recovery. Just take it "one step at a time."

The zoo has announced plans to celebrate the first birthday of its giant panda cub Bao Bao who turns one-year-old on August 23.
Bao Bao is only the second surviving cub born at the National Zoo since the first pandas arrived in 1972 to commemorate President Richard Nixon's historic visit to China. Bao Bao's brother,Tai Shan, was born in 2005 and returned to China in 2010.

Mema Jo said...

Janet said...

good afternoon to all.
its been a busy, but good day.

SHAR: goodness! I hope you heal quickly and well!

SANDI: its your birthday, you may be any age you like!

I took Peanut (Michael's cat) to the vet today for her first appt. I found out something most interesting! some of you may already know this.

MOST orange cats are male. The orange color, per my vet is carried on the Y chromosome. Peanut is a female which means she has an extra chromosome, so she is XXY. I found that fascinating!

Other than an ear infection, she is in general good health. Now to have her spayed ...

Michael WILL be paying me back!

Home school was good today.

I also baked from scratch some kolache and some cinnamon rolls. Both start with a general sweet yeast roll, but the kolache are made into balls, a indentation in the middle and filled with fruit, or a cream cheese filling, and or nuts...

cinnamon rolls are pretty self explanatory.

ribs are in the rotisserie and potatoes are cooking. dinner soon!!!

I am off tomorrow as well. I hope the weather is a bit better for the pool. either way, it will need to be vacuumed.

later ya'll!

Sadly, the diner had chocolate cake, and carrot cake, and cheesecake, but not pineapple upside down cake. :( Se we got homemade ice cream at a local place called Bonkeys instead. Came home and took the dogs for a walk to walk off dinner and dessert. Now I feel ready for bed, though it's only 8:15!

Good evening,

Well, today was the first day of school for students in Culpeper. New teachers there started on August 4.

Happy birthday Candy and Sandi!

Yard work here today. Hunter mowed and I pulled weeds. Got stung on the face and realized that there was a bee nest under the front porch. They were burrowing into the ground. Little bees, smaller than yellowjackets. The sting wasn't bad. I had to resort to wasp spray, and those critters were hard to kill. Might still be some out there.

stronghunter said...

Hunter's school starts the day after Labor Day.

stronghunter said...

Pineapple up-side-down cake! My mother made those. Kathryn will not eat pineapple, but Hunter would probably love it.

SED, everyone. See you tomorrow.

Goodorming my eagle friends - it's a gray day here in Bethany.

Lolly, sounds like a fun but tiring day yesterday. Enjoy the water park today.

No tennis for me this morning - headed back to the DMV to have the Jeep re-inspected now that the brake light lens has been fixed, then will get the registration renewed.

After that, Denny and I are meeting with a guy to pick out door fronts and hardware for the kitchen refacing project we're doing in the fall. Then I need to find a dress for a wedding in 3 weeks. I hate clothes shopping.

going to hang at the house here today. do have to run to the bank in a bit. fraudulent charge on the bank account. 2nd one in a month. grrrrr.

other than that, a quiet day with online stuff to do. want to maybe book a tour of the TN capitol....just a relaxed day I HOPE...lol

Judie said...

Good morning to all.

Janet, what a scary mess to have fraud charges. Good luck.

Sandi, happy re-inspection outcome and cabinet hardware shopping. Would love to remodel our kitchen but the $ investment is not worth it at this point.

Shirley, as much as you love Hunter, are you looking forward to the beginning of quiet day time after the morning crisis of getting to the bus on time?

Audrey and Grace are now shown as being available for adoption. Meanwhile, we are assured finding them a foster home is a priority.

Going to clean out some more school files today. Not much else. Cloudy and blah looking outside.

Have a good morning!

Lolly said...

Good morning! Off soon! Looking forward to tomorrow. Just a movie to go to see. Jack has a dentist appointment tomorrow and I am going to call the vet. Just want him to check the paw.

Now off to the water park!

Love pineapple upside down cake. I make an awesome one, would loved to have made it for you, Sandi!

Kay said...

Good Morning Eagle Buds !!!

Holding JO close in thought and prayer today.

JUDIE, here's hoping the kitties are placed in a new home soon. There is another cat or two out there waiting for your embrace.

LOLLY, good doin's with the boys. Hope the vet deems the paw to be in good condition.

SANDI, I knew you'd miss your Mom on this first birthday without her TLC. I'm sure no other pineapple upside down cake would have matched those she lovingly made for you. ♥

JANET, boo-hiss on those fraudulent charges. The bank will take care of it, but it's still a hassle for you.

Julie is running errands and will bring a "Noodles" lunch in for us today. All word from Seth is upbeat--he's very keen on the mentoring job.

Love and prayers for all !!!

However, as I told Laurel, Jacob can not handle a lot of sun. He threw up on the way home. Nicely caught it all in a towel. He has done this on our trips to the beach, too! I really think he can not take a lot of sun!

He is fine now!

This is a poem that was on one of the eagle pages

"""The Eagle’s Nest Stands Silent
By Jim Weller (June 17, 2013)
The eagle’s nest stands silent
Her annual labor done
She’s proven herself trustworthy
Each battle fought, she’s won.
As wandering eagles see her
Without a word she’ll say,
“This territory’s taken!
You’d best be on your way!”
Through the blistering heat of summer
While standing high and proud
She’ll chant of former glories,
But not a word aloud.
Crowning autumn’s canopy
She will breathe a quiet sigh
As her master and her mistress
Dance across the sky.
Speechless through the snowfall
Atop that barren tree
She’ll patiently anticipate
The things that are to be.
Then just before the springtime
She will end her time of rest
And sing anew a song of joy
With new life in her breast!
The eagle’s nest stands silent
Yet has so much to say
If we just pause to listen
As we hasten by today.
“If we will just pause to listen, there is much to be heard in this season of silence.”

Well, the Jeep passed inspection and the registration has been renewed, we picked new cabinet door fronts and hardware, and I found a dress for the wedding. Successful day!

Kitchen remodel won't happen til late October or early November - it's just 2 guys who do the estimating, ordering, and installation. Judie, we are doing what's called refacing, which costs about 1/2 of what a brand new kitchen would cost. The cabinets don't get replaced and the insides will still look the same, just the outsides get a facelift.

Funny thing about Hunter. He says he is not the "matching kind." He has been deliberately wearing mismatched outfits. Not mismatching socks, mind you. He might decide to wear orange with red and green, or some such thing. We figure this is a harmless behavior, but sometimes we are embarrassed to be walking with him.

We did not do anything today. It was nice. We were going to go to a movie but it was not starting until this evening. Probably going to play Monopoly soon.

Took Skippi to the vet. He was pleased with her progress and surprised at her weight gain. Lol. She got her second round of shots today. Yea! Going to continue with the antibiotics and the topical and washing the paws but not as often. She will have her surgery in about 6 weeks!

We have reservations for dinner and show at Midevial Times tomorrow evening. Driving to Dallas for that.

good evening to all. I am TIRED

got myself, the house and all ready before I went to work. got a good amount done. livvy started on her school work. I actually took a ten min swim just before 9 a.m.

work was good. I had a hard time settling down and settling in...took a couple hours. not sure why. I don't usually have that problem. my mind was just whirling.

the day was good. grandson jack called early this morning and inquired if we would go to red robin with them to celebrate his birthday...sooo sweet!

so when I got home, the crew was here. kids swam as it was a pool day indeed 95+ and we won't discuss the wicked humidity!

we all did go to red robin for dinner. and....on the way home, we saw that Chelsea was following us instead of heading home.
????????????????????????????????

lorelei had messed her diaper, as kids will do, but painted herself and the car seat with it. so they came over here for an emergency clean up.

it was very LOUD and energetic around here!!!!!

now, it is quiet. I see an early bed time for me. have to leave 30 min early in the morning to take Michael's cat for her spay.

LOLLY: so glad ms Skippi is doing better!

STRONGHUNTER: if mismatched clothes is the worst offense, count your blessings! I see kids expressing themselves as such...mismatched socks (colors and patterns) etc often.

thanks for the encouragement all. I knew going into this that there will indeed be many days like that...for both of us. but like when we were doing vision therapy....sometimes we have to do it even when we don't feel like it.

tomorrow is Thursday weeks go quickly, don't they? I see a pool day after work....hopefully.

have a great evening to all. Sweet dreams.

My goodness. Janet, I would not have enjoyed the diaper incident. Happy you had dinner with the family, a swim, and otherwise survived the day.

Shirley, perhaps mismatched is the current style. Keep an eye out on little ladies who arrive at the bus stop and Hunter's preferences. Too cute. Gone are the days of sweater sets and guys in button down shirts and all wearing penny loafers.

Wonder where Hoda is? Well, maybe it's better I don't know the details of her many activities.lol

Will probably go foraging tomorrow.

Lynnis's mom, sister, brother-in-law, and 2 nieces ages 3 and 7 are also coming and they are all vegetarians. Sadly, the weekend weather doesn't look great. Lynnis's nieces have never been to the beach - I hope we can spend some time there either Friday or Saturday - don't need sun, just no rain.

Prayers continue for our Jo - did you start another round of chemo yesterday?

Have agreat day all.
