Monday

I have been getting a number of questions on the cam replcement status.  Here's the scoop:

We are on a procurement freeze until 21 October.  After that, we can proceed with high priority purchase requests.  We'll do out best to get the cam and the tree service in there.  NCTC is also facing, along with the rest of the federal government a potential 8.5% across the board budget cut due to the pending sequestration.  That has an impact on our budget priorities.

We'll keep our fingers crossed...  New thread.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO NORMA!!!

The biopsy went well. We were in and out of the doc office in about an hour. He's tolerated foods and all well and only seemingly mild discomfort. We won't know the results of the biopsy for 2 to 3 weeks.....so its a waiting game now....and again, I refuse to give any outcome any energy other than everything is fine! Thanks for all your thoughts and energy today!!!

Been a quiet day around here....watching the birds at the feeder. Had a visit from a chipmunk today! soooooo cute. The chickadees are cute, fussing at us as we go in and out of the front door.

Hoping everyone is doing well this evening.

Christine just updated the Caring Bridge

Hello-
Sorry for being short with my posts earlier I just wanted to make sure how the surgery went and all. I want to thank you all for your prayers and continued support for my father and our family. It means so much to us all and I know it would mean so much to my father. I got a phone call this morning from the neurosurgeon that they wanted to perform a partial crainotomy. Dad was taken into surgery around 7:30 and was out and in his room by 11:30. They opened the skull and removed the left side. They were able to flush out the brain and then closed him up. His part of the skull that was removed is saved in a bone bank until he is ready to have it put in which could be 6 weeks up to a year. He came out of the surgery and went directly to a CT to see if the swelling had gone down and if there was enough room for swelling which there is pleanty of room now. I was with him when he came out of surgery. He was opening his eyes but very groggy. The doctors and nurses do think he very much hears us they just do not know yet if he understand what we are saying. He is very alert when he hears voices he opens his eyes and looks at you purposfully. The doctors hopes are from teh surgery that he will regain movement of his right side which he has not moved in several days now. It is obvious he can feel on that side because if he has pain on that side he will reach for it. He just can't move his arm or leg. The doctors kept him pretty sedated today to keep him calm to let him heal and relax from the surgery. They hope to switch him back to the lower sedation medication tomorrow as long as he continues to do well. The doctors did decide today that they will do surgery hopefully tomorrow to give him a temporary tracheotomy and a PEG (feeding tube directly in his stomach). The reason for these two procedures is that it will give my Dad more comfort. At this time he is only to have family visitors. Like I said thank you all for your support and as soon as he can have visitors I will let you all know. For now he can get mail at the hospital and he is recieving some. Let's continue to pray for this is going to be a long road ahead for my Dad

Thanks! Christine

Evening all - just popping in for a second - swamped with school work all of a sudden!

Prayers continue for Michael's progress - that the surgery today and relieving the swelling allow him to regain the use of his right side. As the custodian at my school told me about my mom, "If you worry, don't pray and if you pray, don't worry!" So, i am not worrying, I'm praying!!!

Prayers also for Linda's Dennis that the docs are able to fix whatever was damaged during yesterday's surgery and that his is able to start on the road to recovery.

No news from Lynne2 about Brother Cat. Hope he made it home. We are really having a time with Bandit lately - peeing and pooping in the house every day, sometimes more than once a day. Don't know if it's because of the dementia or the kidney stones, just know that I am not happy about working all day and then coming home to cleaning up messes and washing rugs! Also not happy about more vet bills when there isn't anything that can be done about the dementia and we have already decided not to have surgery to remove the stones.

Exhausted - off to bath and bed for me. Goodnight!

Good Evening Eagle Friends!

I am without sleep since Sunday night, so bear with me...

Sharon - Thank you for posting my update for me. I just couldn't do more than a text today. Too much was going on...

I will try to explain more later, but this thing with Dennis and removal of a small section of bladder cancer tumors has turned into a calamity of errors.

The damage done by the first surgeon was not able to be repaired by the second surgeon this evening. Tomorrow, Dennis will have to face another procedure under x-ray and twilight sedation to try and put in a stent from the side with an incision there. The chances of this one working should be better, but more to deal with.

Meanwhile, he is still pretty uncomfortable and not ridding himself of fluids, which is not good.

I did come home tonight to take care of things here and to get a good night's sleep. I will head back tomorrow in the hopes that we get some good news tomorrow.

Linda said...

Good morning eagle pals!

LINDA, so sorry about the problems with Dennnis' surgery. My mother once had surgery where they knicked her kidney, but all came out well in the end. No problems. I know it's scary! Hope you get some rest and Dennis is doing better today. ♥

JO, happy to hear you are making YOUR appointments and taking care of yourself. Prayers for Michael and his progress after yesterday's surgery. Big hugs!

I had to make a bunch of appointments myself yesterday. They're coming to the house today to set up the sleep machine, CPAP. I have a stomach emptying test next Tuesday, and a colonoscopy (yuck) in December.

Prayers for everyone continue.

Update from Michael's Caring Bridge:

Wednesday October 9

Written 12 minutes ago

I just got off the phone with the surgeon that performed the temporary tracheotomy and PEG. She said that the surgery went well. He is now breathing through the temp trach. He will start using the feeding tube tomorrow. The nurse has not been with Dad yet this morning because of the surgery so I do not know any new information about his neuro exams and him responsiveness. I will post more information later. Continued prayers!

The anesthesia from surgery this morning is keeping him quiet and calm. They will try to wean his off sedation and just do pain medications. Good evening.
Linda-were the errors with the recent surgery? (Last Tuesday?) or something from years ago? I sure hope the second surgery helps the situation. I am keeping him in my prayers.
Jo-Michael continues to be in my prayers as well.
Janet-Glad Tom is doing well and resting. That goes a long way.

Another day done. I hope the year improves with time. I do not like approaching each one wishing it for it to be over, but it sure is teaching me one day at a time. A lot of touching, poking, hitting and trying to be first in line. Gonna kill me this year. And of course with each time, parents yelling "bully". I know it's a real problem, but with these kinders it's not really malicious as much as it is no personal control!! I even had one mother tell me that when her child was at another preschool the when she asked the teacher if her son was making friends, the teacher told her there was no one worth being friends with in the class. I think my jaw dropped when the parent said this to me. Then she added she appreciated the teacher saying it! I'm sorry, every child has worth, EVERY single one! That child is someones heart and soul. How dare that teacher say that!!!
Okay enough of that soapbox. I hope I provided you with a little distraction from your every day! ;)

Costume Lady said...

GLO, I had the same problem as you...tried White Rock and got 1 second of sound and then was told to download "CHROME". I thought I had it, but would NOT re-do it. I usually DO NOT download anything to see a few seconds of something!

Lynne, so sorry about Brother Cat. Did he have a collar on? Annie always has her collar and tags. I have suggested that Laurel to be sure PC has a collar and tags when they move. Tags returned a cat to us....two times. Also flyers helped one time. Crazy cats!

LORI pleased about the machine too and I hope you have a rested sleep.

I have a bit of a head cold and working on healing from it and yet I went to yoga today and felt really good about it.

Had some issues with my iphone not texting through phone rather using email...it finally got resolved today and it took the tech an hour and a half...they wanted me to do it on my own and Apple thought I should pay them 35 dollars for the service I out an out refused. Their equipment is faulty and I do not see why I have to pay...the Phone company agent did it for free.Phoning them and getting their advice and I did not have to pay.

PRAYERS FOR MICHAEL and his on going healing.

Another exhausting day for me.....

Dennis is still in the hospital today because the procedure they went in to do today was unsuccessful. I really don't understand what is going on, but it had something to do with needing more sensitive equipment and a different x-ray room to do this procedure.

They were going to try again later this afternoon, but had a couple emergencies with trauma patients and Dennis had to be pushed to tomorrow's schedule. Dennis said they use that same equipment to do vascular and angioplasty procedures, so that would make sense.

I am just so disappointed that all this is happening and that we just can't seem to get a break here. I am doing my best to trust God and know without a doubt that He is in control here. It is a struggle, for sure!

So back to the hospital I will go again tomorrow. This hospital is just about 1.5 hours from our home, so it is a lot of driving, too!

I'm praying that tomorrow's procedure will finally give Dennis relief and that he will be able to come home to heal the rest of the way!

DMo - This "mistake" was done Monday when Dennis had an outpatient surgery to remove bladder cancer tumors.

Linda said...

I do check in on Michael's status and am praying for him Jo. It is so heart breaking to see you have to go through this.

Being free from the collar and now from the tube in his mouth and throat will hopefully help you both. I know how hard it is to watch your loved one for days and days on a ventilator, with all that tape and unable to move much, and unable to see their full face, touch it and wish for a gesture.

Praying you will get a smile tomorrow and that somehow he feels that freedom. May God Bless Michael and heal his brain injury and bring him to complete recovery in miraculous ways.

Linda said...

Lynne2 - So sorry Brother Cat is missing. I do hope you find him soon. Have you tried going back to your old abode? It is amazing how many times they find their way back to what they have always known as home.

I must get some rest as I am totally exhausted once again!

Keeping you all in my prayers.........

LINDA, I am feeling so sorry for Dennis and his NIGHTMARE FROM HELL surgery, and for all that you have been going through. Prayers♥

Sounds like DanaMo's dad is doing as well as GG did with her chemo.

Linda-I am so sorry to hear of the mistake on Monday's surgery. Can't imagine how difficult that was to handle and now it sounds like it has lead to all kinds of other difficulties. Praying for Dennis and for you and of course the surgeons who will be doing the procedure today.

Glad this week is winding down.
Lolly-Have a great retreat this weekend. My Adam is on Kairos retreat right now with the senior class. They left last night and return on Saturday night. Woke up thinking about him, of course that might be because Boomer was stepping all over me and he usually sleeps with Adam.

Annemarie got her braces on Tuesday and Wednesday morning woke up with a bracket in her mouth loose. Guess it wasn't on good enough. We had an appointment to go back anyway for the wire.

One more day in class and field trip to the pumpkin patch tomorrow.

Prayers for Michael, Jo, Dennis, Tom, for Bro. Kitty to return, my dad, Sandi's mom, Kay, wow....I know I'm missing someone...

Thursday again. Good morning, all!

Was so tired after 4 outcalls yesterday and then taking Olivia ice skating, then dinner/dishes....that I took a shower, watched Survivor and went to bed. Today will be an easier day; massage envy. I have a couple of errands to run after work, then a quiet night!

It is chilly this morning, 39. Skies are clear and the air is cool. It is refreshing outside!

Tom and Olivia seem to be having a nice fall break. They spent yesterday making paper beads and making bracelets and such. Today they are making salt dough. I am glad that they are doing stuff like that. I was home when my older two were little and it was fun doing stuff like that. I am glad that Tom is making these memories with Olivia. He was out to sea when she was little and so there wasn't a lot of what he is doing now; memories, bonding, fun times. These memories are things that are precious.

Hope everyone has a super day. Keeping all close in heart and thought, sending healing energies, comfort and light to those in need...
Hugs n smiles!

Good grief Linda, how horrible that there are still setbacks with Dennis's what should have been an in and out procedure. GRRRRRRRRRRR. I'm hoping at the very least they get this all straightened out TODAY. I'll be praying HARD today for that.

Praying for Michael, Sandi's MOM, Dana's DAD, MEMA JO and everyone.

Glad Emma is back to her usual self, Lori's CPAP is working, and that Judy is seeing lots of waterfalls!

As for Brother, no sign yet. He had been trying to escape from the old house for about a month, before we even started packing things up in full force. And he succeeded but we were able to capture him right away. He's been restless, howling a lot. Skynyrd has been relentless in trying to get him and Joker to play which I think is part of the problem. He almost sliced himself in two trying to get out the glass louvers on the door of the sunporch. When Skynyrd showed up, right around the same time, Brother, who had been having episodes with IBD and getting depo injections every 3-4 weeks, suddenly didn't need them anymore, and was "buffing up". He hadn't looked so good since his recovery from the Great Disappearing Act of Memorial Day Weekend 2011. Then about a month or so ago, (exact times I'm not sure of because this all was happening during our own craziness) he started looking bad again, although his appetite has been good, and no depo needed. But he started trying to escape.

He has not been out, allowed or desired, since his big escape last year. So I knew SOMETHING was going on with him. Since he was otherwise fine, I had decided to wait until we were a bit settled here before taking him to the vet for exam and blood work, etc. and this past Tuesday was the day he was scheduled.

Our former home is 40something miles from here and while ANYTHING is possible, I cannot imagine he's trying to get back there.

And he is NOT wearing a collar. I have not had one on him since he became an indoor only cat last year. I know better. I give advice to people to protect their cats during and after a move all the time, and ID is the main thing. DUH.

In all of the years I've had him, he's disappeared a few times, more so when he was much younger, but never more than for 3 days. SO today is the 4th day. My gut feeling is that he was/is sick with something, maybe cancer, and due to the nature of his odd personality, he wanted to go off and die alone. I am still hopeful that he will come back, but with each passing day it seems more unlikely. There are things outside from his old home, and our scent is everywhere in the area as we are often out, and out with the dogs. The shed door is open with food in there. It's terrible, the not knowing what has happened. Worse than that IS knowing that Brother was so bound and determined to escape from the comfort and security of his home, and my love. That's a tough pill to swallow.

Well, I've got to get to work. I'll be praying for everyone and will try to sneak a peek later for some updates!

Good morning. Latest update from Michael's Caring Bridge:

Thursday October 11
Written 1 minute ago
Anxious to visit with Dad and see all the changes that occurred yesterday. His surgery went well for his temporary tracheotomy and PEG. He also was able to get rid of several things. They took out his drain in his head that was to monitor the pressure. He had been stable since the partial craniotomy and had not drained any csf or had any pressure. They also removed his central lk necessary and arterial line and his Foley catheter. They are trying to wean him off sedation. The nurse this morning said in the night and this morning dad was able to follow commands intermittently. He was asked to stick out his tongue and he did!!! He still is not moving his right side. I am hopeful we are on the road to recovery.

Good morning! Time for me to get ready to get to the beauty shop.

Lynne, Bro Cat's story makes me think of Toby. He was our dog growing up. Toby was really my brothers dog but was Daddy's constant companion. He traveled all over our little town. Knew his way to Daddy's business, knew where Daddy drank coffee downtown. He rode to work with Daddy sitting up in the pickup. Everyone laughed saywing they expected to see Toby driving the truck one day. Then one day Toby left. Everyone told Daddy to not go looking for him. Toby had gone off to die. That is the desire of some animals. Bro Cat knew you loved him, but if he so desperately wanted out it was not because he did not love you.

Yikes! Opened the back door this morning and a large spider was hanging there almost in my face.

This is the second time it's happened, but I did not open the door first time. Saw the spider through the window. Web looked like it was ready to catch HUMANS. Ambitious spider.

Still, yes still, working on finding a contractor. I think they might be leery of the insurance company. It seems there have been problems with this company.

Mema, Suzie, Patrick and I are at the hospital. Dad looks very good. He has some swelling on the left side of his face. He looks like a chip monk. He is very alert and off sedation. He gave us all smiles and he winked at Mema. He is squeezing our hands and following our eyes. He is so purposefully today!
