JUDIE! Another garden helper. See you haven't got an answer yet, so I can tell you that the Lantana is basically an annual here. Almost every plant will benefit from dead-heading, or taking the dead flowers off because it gives the plant energy to make more. Do it as often as you can, once every week or so is great. PLANT Lantana somewhere that it will get full sun and water as necessary and it will do great for you. It's an easy plant. Fertilize every three weeks or so - especially if you have it in a pot where there are no nutrients in the soil.
Butterfly bushes are simple, as well. Basically weeds, they prefer full sun and you can cut back after flowering to the next bud tips, which are usually right beneath the big one on the end which will be your first bloomer on a branch. The side bud flower cones are usually not as big. You never want to trim a plant, or grass, more than 1/3 at a time when doing a massive pruning. But Butterfly bushes as so hardy, I've seen them cut by 1/2 their size and come back beautifully.
Sometmes Butterfly bushes are outta control and it's fun to try to direct their growth by pruning, or cutting your dead flower off, just above the leaves that are going in the direction you would like the next branch to go.
JUST TOOK VULTURE PICS AND there's one chick and the second egg has pips in it!
Perfect timing. I had Kate go with me so we had two cameras and binoculars. I'll load the pics after dinner! I'm soooo excited! Got some great pics of the parent, too.
LYNNE, that picture of you with your proud dad is priceless ! Yes, we were all blessed with handsome dads and beautiful mothers, too !
JUDYE, part of what eaglets learn in the nest is it's a competive world out there and you'd better be ready for the survival of the fittest. I've read that there is less sibling strife in nests where the food supply is plentiful and where the parents strive to feed each chick equally well. But, if an eaglet lacks enough "hey, what about me" attitude, it is not likely to survive the rigors of life in the wild and sometimes even in the nest.
