Monday
Evening thread.
Thanks for sending me the picture of the owl. Hard for me to tell what the species is from the photo.
Could be a Great Horned, but could also be a Barred owl, which are very common around here. While owls might be a threat, they have always been around the Shepherdstown nest, and will continue to be. I think the threat is minimal.
Perhaps some of you will remember when a red tailed hawk, also very common around here, got too close to the nest when there were you in it. One of the adult eagles "took it out" in a very violent fashion, as witnessed by a couple of NCTC folks.

Afternoon thread. Still waiting for a visible on the cam visit. As said in last post the eagles were around the tree last night.

Thursday
The cam is obviously giving us a great deal of trouble. Yesterday afternoon we determined that the damage caused last week by the wind also impacted the power supply to the cam and perhaps the cam as well. We are working closely with a top Fish and Wildlife Service Bald Eagle expert on the best time to go up in the nest at this late time to replace the cam and cables. Right now, the window for doing this is mid next week. More when we know it.

Monday
Cold and windy thread. I suspect the cam issues are related to the wind... they're working on it.
