Funny experience I had some years ago when I was a substitute teacher:
The ground was covered with snow, and kids were wanting to have a snowball fight inside. I stopped a young man in the hall to speak with him. He seemed very uncomfortable, and then suddenly he dumped a whole load of snow from his pockets onto the floor.
He tried to tell me that he was conducting a scientific experiment.
Reading back.....Loretta, I have lots of conehead things, too!! Love ther Nativity in your front window. Snowfall totals were amazing, MArgy. Hard to believe that Frostburg, of all places, was one of the lowest!!!
SIL had his rescue squad unit (southern Fairfax Co.) in a ditch last evening....was still waiting for a tow last I heard.....don't know whether they had a patient or not.
Argh, Paula.....appropriate but don't need any more reminders!!! LOL!
Just found out that SIL was in ditch for 4 hrs. No injuries. No patient--it was a rescue not an ambulance. His tag-team buddy was the driver. Wounded ego!! He isn't planning on coming home to CharlesTown until Tues. Christie is not happy. And she did make it home from work last night just fine---never saw another soul in her 2-block walk.
Shirley, if this storm had been 50 to 75 miles further east coming up the coast, they would have gotten much more, and we would have gotten much less...just depends on the track of these coastal storms...
I noticed how you all commented that you were so glad that there are no eggs, yet, but we don't know it won't happen again in January or February. This could really be a snowy winter.
I watch about a dozen beach cams down the ocean, and they had a typical nor'easter, with high surf, coastal flooding and high winds, and they did get about an inch or two last night...you can see the snow on the boardwalks.
Shirley, the old-timers had a terrible experience with our birds back in winter of '07....go back to old blog....someone else can give you the date.....very tragic....even caused some people to stop watching for awhile.
SHIRLEY!---She would have stayed on the nest!---RAIN or SHINE!--That happened--One year she remained on the nest through sleet--snow & rain!---and still no hatching!---was so sad.....
Today Mostly sunny. Highs around 30. Northwest winds 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 30 mph. » ZIP Code Detail Tonight Partly cloudy in the evening...then becoming mostly cloudy. Lows around 19. West winds 10 to 15 mph. Monday Partly sunny with a 20 percent chance of snow. Highs in the lower 30s. West winds 5 to 10 mph.
I knew someone would answer you Shirley - I was waiting for one of the more experienced Momsters to do that. It was a tough year in 2007, and Springtime this year too in a way with only one hatch, so let's hope Mother Nature helps us out this coming season ♥
In 2007, there was a late, large snowstorm on St Patrick's day weekend, right at hatching time. As I recall, the Maine eaglets did not survive that one either.
Lucky, still with electricity, water, and satellite. Can't complain.
Margy, so glad you don't have to work. Get some well-deserved rest.
Lynn, happy SIL is okay and Christie's trek home was uneventful.
Staying in today, of course. May try to finish a novel I'm not really interested in or I may just start to read a new text which will put me into an instant sleep coma.
Eagle at BWO and blue jays at PA. Diego wrestling with some bamboo/teething.
LOLLY--I was on the phone & feeling sorry for my self last night----I missed the game!--I wish I had remembered---It would have changed my day!!---(can't live without newspapers)---Missed WVU basketball too!--Going to read online this am!---Think VIKINGS play today!!----
THELMA!---What are you doing to do without water??----Do you have a friend that could help you---SO SORRY!---HEY!---CALL a plumber & charge it to BLUEFIELD SHARON!!!---(she won't be back for a while) ho!----kidding!!!! and I know it isn't funny!!---Will keep you in my thoughts!!
Good Morning All! It is so bright with the snow reflecting the sunlight that I could even wear my shades inside the house. Opened all the curtains and blinds so I could see if there were any Tiger tracks around my house. Happy to see every one here this morning with no major problems except Thelma's water situation. Hubby cleaning off cars and waiting for sone to arrive with the snow blower,
Good BRIGHT Morning Everyone!! Gotta wear sunglasses if by windows inside! Added a measurement to a car pic from last night. Checked the new little spot I made for Deb's pictures & noticed that somehow, the text was SO light, you couldn't read it!Don't know what Blogger did! Had to edit.I bear to have her pictures topped by something silly, like goofy cormorants, so moved them. Wish there was something real scenic around the house~~~have to wait for Wanda's pics! ☺
Me, too, Norma.......have very good carriers, and for all I know papers may be out there....but I can't get to them. And I am very sure that mail carrier didn't come yesterday. Tomorrow is supposed to be trash day......doubt they will make it, either. TWO weeks of Christmas-time trash---yuck!
Judie, if you don't like the book you are reading, just forget it!!! I learned a long time ago that I shouldn't waste time on it if I don't get any enjoyment out of it!! Too many GOOD books to spend time with.
Thelma, what is the problem with the water, do you know? Public system or well?
Love the new rock & roll Snowman, Paula. Margy - what bird is it you have up? I hope Wanda does not get hit on the head from snow falling from the tree limbs.
I just changed the avatar, Jo! It is a chickadee, from a picture I have in the bedroom, and the other one is from a Christmas card. Having trouble with too dark exposure on some I am taking. xoxo
Good Morning, Eagle Buddies! Glad everyone made it through relatively unscathed, except, of course, Thelma's lack of water! Sure hope that situation changes in a hurry! We're starting to pack up; have to check out by 10am. Hope you all have a great morning/afternoon! Will be back when we've gotten back home, hoping to see more pictures and hear more news. Feel really rested this morning--slept like a rock again last night. Comfy bed! Better go now--gotta pack up the laptop. Will BBL, from home. God bless, and stay safe and warm! :o]
I tried gettiing a guy with a snow blower. He said he might be back he has to do one of his families.
I tried getting two kids walking up the snowy road. They have to do his father's first but might be back.
I have an appointment tomorrow with Social Security. So I can't take a chance that they will be open and I'm not cleaned out to get there.
SNOW SNOW SNOW WOW !!!
Ed knew how to get out of this one lol ... Bless His Heart he couldn't have cleaned it anyhow.
Called my nephew ... he messed his truck up and his back is messed up. Told him to call some of his friends see if they have a truck with plow or snow blower. No word back and that was hours ago.
So pain pill and shovel here I come...say a prayer for me please.
Driveway is plowed!! Not perfect but good enough! Hardly anyplace to put so much snow. Will definitely need to get a load of gravel come spring---argh! And I have two papers from yesterday and one today!!! Thank you, my Mr. Bill! I'll even be able to take the trash out later.
Thelma, so glad your water problem was not YOURS and that it was short-lived!!! To me that is the worst part when we lose electricity----pump can't run to get water from the well! So far, so good!! Light snow makes a big difference. As long as the wind doesn't cause trees/limbs to bring down a line and nobody knocks out a pole, and the transformers don't blow, maybe our luck will hold!
Dana, good to see you on here. I sure hope you don't get hurt shoveling. I was telling Sharon this morning I wonder what happened to that neighborhood kid that would shovel for the women, I said old lady but I won't say any of us eagle momsters are old. : ) I used to be that kid so I whined a bit and said I need some payback. LOL They are just getting plowing my street. Yay

Good very snowy morning everybody!
Sun is shining brightly :)
I think a snowman is appropriate for today :)
This one is a bit calmer than your previous one, Paula.
Yes, Margy, I am happy you're getting some well-earned time off.
How would our eagles have handled the snowstorm if they had had eggs or babies in the nest?
Argh, Paula.....appropriate but don't need any more reminders!!! LOL!
Just found out that SIL was in ditch for 4 hrs. No injuries. No patient--it was a rescue not an ambulance. His tag-team buddy was the driver. Wounded ego!! Beautiful eagles at BWO, but they have a lot less snow there.
Woof, that's tough, all the way around Lynn, except that Christie got home on time and had a peaceful walk home
GOOD MORNING EAGLE BUDDIES!!---WOW! Check the 2 EAGLES at BWO!---they appear to be two 'ole timers' sharing the news!!---AWESOME!
Shirley, if this storm had been 50 to 75 miles further east coming up the coast, they would have gotten much more, and we would have gotten much less...just depends on the track of these coastal storms...
True, Mits. I think they might have even gotten some rain to the east.
FOLKS---don't think I will ever get out!!---but I am enjoying all the beautiful birds!---
Shirley - our eagles would have tented over the eggs...constantly
They would take turns?
I noticed how you all commented that you were so glad that there are no eggs, yet, but we don't know it won't happen again in January or February. This could really be a snowy winter.
Think there's an immature eagle in the Maine nest. Just flew in.
Huge black birds in my yard. I think crows.
I watch about a dozen beach cams down the ocean, and they had a typical nor'easter, with high surf, coastal flooding and high winds, and they did get about an inch or two last night...you can see the snow on the boardwalks.
and it is eating something Megan:), I was watching it about a half hour ago, and weather was pretty calm then...
Yep, I thought it was eating something, and moving sticks around the nest.
weather for nest.....

Yes, Shirley, they take turns.
In 2007, there was a late, large snowstorm on St Patrick's day weekend, right at hatching time. As I recall, the Maine eaglets did not survive that one either.

and a New Thread alert !
What timing Thanks Norma !
Hi my snowy Eagle Pals..Hello to everyone.
Dana, be careful out there. Just do a little at a time.
Back to vacuuming, and reading papers.
Well, water back on about 30 minutes ago. I don't know what I'm waiting on, my tail needs to hit the shower. Catch ya on the flip side. : )
Yay
Good to see the royal couple were in the nest today.
Just as I'm running off with the mouth, an elderly gentleman across the street has a snow plow and plows my driveway. GRACE
I think I'll do like one of you suggested with the water this morning, I'll tell Sharon they charged $50 and she owes me.
