Thanks Steve - you're doing a double work load this am. Sharon's picture is great - thanks for posting. I will go over and alert the others to come on over.
Wednesday, September 24 Giant pandas might be black and white, but when it comes to their pattern of coloration, there are interesting differences. Even the pandas at Zoo Atlanta have subtle color variations. Yang Yang has a white patch of fur on his otherwise black rear left foot. Though it’s hard to see, Lun Lun has small amounts of white fur on both of her heels. Mei Lan inherited this trait and has more noticeable white spots on her otherwise black heels. I think back to my time in China, when I had to identify certain pandas for data collection out of 35 at the Chengdu Research Base. To differentiate between twin female pandas, I looked for differences in the white stripes they both had on their back legs. To identify one particular male, I looked for the panda whose black “vest” across his shoulders did not connect because of a thin strip of white in the middle. I bring this topic up because of a difference that I've noticed in the newest addition here at the Zoo. Over the past week, as his black markings have become darker, some black coloration has appeared around his mouth. It almost looks as if he smeared some black paint on the lower half of his mouth. We will have to wait and see whether this trait becomes more or less noticeable as he continues to mature.
This morning his weight was 794.9 grams. Kate Roca Carnivore Keeper II
I read back thru comments and see that Paula last night did dance herself right into slumberland! Her body caught up with her when she sat still to watch TV. The news of her mom coming out of ICU soon was very relaxing to her mind, I'm sure!
One reason I was late was a web cam call from Germany. Christine 'thought' I would like to see Elizabeth almost 4 mos old. She is up to 14 lbs now and her legs keep pushing her up & down! Christine also said that Patrick got his b-day box which I didn't send until 6 days ago. That is fast! Also Patrick says he has gotten many cards - even though so far away I must thank all of you who sent cards because it is a touch of home! He thanks all of Mema's Eagle Friends!
My bad, as the kids say...didn't forget you all last night...fell asleep on sofa watching news! TO Shepherdstown folks: A friend and former colleague's daughter, Kathy Maiden, did a soldier salute on CNN this am for her husband Navy Lt.Tom Maiden...she asked him to send a flag for Mason, her next door neighbor. Didn't know that she lived next to the Ellsworths! Pretty neat of her to ask for that!
Jo, I tend to forget about the guestbook! Kathy's mom had sent out an email about the broadcast, but it didn't say anything about Mason, so I was really SURPRISED!! Prayers, please, for my sis...recurrent abdominal pain...going for CT scan today. She went through a terrible time last winter w/ adhesions, bad gall bladder and a severe gastritis syndrome w/ surgery...she's fearful that the adhesions are back.
Getting ready to go get a new cell phone...my TracPhone died. Daughter is going to add me on to their acct....I can get the phone cheaper that way, and since I really don't use it much, minutes won't amount to anywhere near what Trac was charging me. Late lunch/early dinner, too! See you all later!
Not too bad, MITS, thanks for asking... Our weather statements call for some higher winds for Thursday through early Friday morning.. winds to 40 mph with gusts possible to 60 mph - "West of the Blue Ridge..." - time will tell, but batten down the hatches and get the bungies out !
Happy PM Everyone in Eagle/Panda Land!! Finally got a chance to get on work 'puter now that it's time to shut down!!!At least this one will open IE. Sharon, that is a great eagle pic. If they are coming by later in AM, I might see one!(I hate to get up early!) Baby Luney must be the cleanest cub in the country!!Every time I look, he's getting a bath. What a wonderful Mom. Gotta finish up work------Later.
Lisa has an update 09/24/08: Penelope -- a young osprey from Martha's Vineyard -- has made it to South America. She's the first to arrive among the birds that Rob Bierregaard is tracking this year.
When you look at the map and realize the distance you just have to sit back and be amazed!

Yes, Wanda, Margy is right...I forgot about the magnets! Luckily, one side of my fridge is exposed (Black) so that's where I had to put my magnets! Got my new cell...fancy...camera AND a froggy ribbit ring tone!! Frogs/toads have always been my thing. Have had many, but one toad, Freddy, was with me from the time I was twelve until I was 21. My dad would tell every boyfriend "the toad goes with her when she gets married." LOL! Unfortunately he died a year before that happened, but I've had many since.
Oh, I tTHOUGHT someone/s would see OUR EAGLES and I KNEW someone would post a Pic...Nice three pictures in the Summer/Autumn NCTC Eagles Album by DEB. Almost EXACTLY the same time as last night....

Lynn my son and his girl friend lives there. He has been there only since February. Love Christmas but instead of making it simple it gets out of control.
Last year my sister was so ill, and died on December 15. Changed the whole season, and it turned out to be one of the most magical Christmases for me ever. I was given the opportunity to do one of the readings for Midnight Mass, and then headed out to the grandson's to be there when he awakened Christmas morning. Spent time later in the day with close family friends...and never worried about gifts, didn't have time to.
Magpie, I understand exactly what you mean. We lost our sister Donna, brother Duck, and Mommy last year. Very bittersweet Christmas!! Really does make us remember the reason for the season, don't it.
Ya know, we lost our boys the week before Thanksgiving when we had been married 3 years. That changed the holidays for us forever but we did find joy again. It didn't come quickly or easily but we found it again.
Oh, SISSY - that is unimaginable... You must be carrying the light of their love with you each day, and we are Blessed that you share yourself with us...
Thanks Mits!! Ya'll have really come to mean so much to me. Can't imagine not having ya'll in my life now. Ain't that funny? Some of us are just blessed and find friends we really click with in the strangest places.
Sure sounds like you found the true meaning of Christmas last year.
I had been out shopping with my son for Germany gal's Girl Scout items. (Brownie) Then of course we had to look for an outfit or 2 for the littlest Germany gal! It was fun!
It is really chilly out there - I almost put the heat on in the car!
Well, I hate to leave such wonderful company but 6 a.m. comes earlier than it used to. I stayed with Mrs. Riffe today and I am tired. She is doing so good, back to her normal self. Someone once commented that the black around the eyes of Mia & Tian
is different.
Mei's black eyes look oval...Tian's black eyes look like kidney beans
I read back thru comments and see that Paula last night did dance herself right into slumberland! Her body caught up with her when she sat still to watch TV. The news of her mom coming out of ICU soon was very relaxing to her mind, I'm sure!
Mei's black vest on her back is full and Tian's pinches in the middle like a bow tie.
yes, Jo sure it is...:)
Mits - thanks! I laughed yesterday when Norma said that Tia white butt isn't white anymore - that was his trademark for a while.
Where is Norma anyhow?
Good to see Karla on this early am.
Norma has bible study on Wednesdays
yes it was great to see Karla this a.m.

That eagle at BWO sure likes to clutch that platform edge...keep thinking it is going to take off...
I have been watching it for a long time, Margy, and it looks like it is going to take off then backs down and looks around

Right, I love Luney more than Sharon does. I love Sharon like crazy!! She is almost like the other half of me.
Magpie, I understand exactly what you mean. We lost our sister Donna, brother Duck, and Mommy last year. Very bittersweet Christmas!! Really does make us remember the reason for the season, don't it.

I swear they were gone since you left to watch your show!
Yup - We have a Prize with you and your FAMILY every single day!
xo
SISSY, what a sweet thing to say about your sister....makes me wish I had a sister to love.
Not to forget to tell you Hedgie - I'll be remembering your sister in my prayers.
Well, I hate to leave such wonderful company but 6 a.m. comes earlier than it used to. I stayed with Mrs. Riffe today and I am tired. She is doing so good, back to her normal self.
