GOOD MORNING TO YOU, Norma! Mits: Haze/fog doesn't make for a good beach day if you have little ones and can lose sight of them. I bet that coffee cake was gooooood!
Glad to hear that most of you are doing laundry instead of mowing or yard work!
First load is going, not much mowing here. We need rain, almost everyone got rain yesterday in SD except two areas. Unfortunately I was one of the areas. Some places got two inches. Another chance later today. I am glad I am not on vacation this week, no sun.
HAVE you read the story of the HUNDREDS OF DEAD PENQUINS SWEPT ASHORE IN BRAZIL from PATAGONA & ICELAND area!!---It was in yesterday's newspaper!!----Now read it on the NORFORK SITE!!----A debate about the reasons!!
Happy Sunday Morning to all!!! Looks like another hot one---& I have things I want to do outside, DUH. And an MT nest---nope Margy gets to go & see something there. We have another wren birdhouse in a crabapple tree in front yard. Don't think anyone ever stayed in it, but when I came home from work the other day, Cheep, Cheeep, Cheep!!!!Saw tiny beak in the door. Will try to get some better picks to post.
Just saw that my Gal in Germany signed in to the Live Messenger - Yesterday I got to see Elizabeth for quite a while on the web cam. Samantha came into view with a Hi Mema Hi Pap Bye Mema Bye Pap....... Love those 6 yr olds!
The last time they were there that we have spotted was on Thursday morning, if I remember right. Margy is going to visit the nest today to see if she can spot them.
MORNIN' JAMIE!!---We won't see LIVE until Mon.---STEVE at NCTC-- takes care of the blog---he will get some one to fix it!!---We have had trouble with it several times this summer!!----The '3 FREE LOADERS'--as we lovingly refer to our EAGLETS now & then --- haven't checked in for a couple of days!!!---They usually stop in for R&R!!!
SHORT ANSWER: YES I DID SEE A SOARING CHILD EAGLE...ABOUT 90 MINUTES INTO MY TIME THERE. HAD SEEN SOMETHING SOARING WAY OFF IN THE DISTANCE BUT I COULDN'T OBSERVE IT WELL ENOUGH TO DISCERN WHETHER EAGLET OR VULTURE.....
... so then I hung out for a long time, parked myself at the Day Care, watched and watched, saw a nice family of little purple finches taking flying lessons and goldfinches and such....
Finally headed to the Training Building for a rest room break...
Came out and was saying, "Please God let me see something so I can take a little treat back to the Blog...
and then..Overhead: A big, Beautiful, soaring eaglet, he or she flew around for quite some minutes letting me examine all those beautiful feathers from the underside....almost transparent as it they spread out from the middle.
It then flew off, then in the same distance as the first time, two soaring things again a little to far to discern and I don't want to guess about it, but I think, eaglets. All this action was between 10:45 and 11:10 - I was yelling "Go into the nest so the others can see..." but to no avail.
..by then I was getting pretty hot and smelling like tick spray and the lavendar relax mist they have in the Ladies Room and it was time to head for market before noon to catch Meagn's stand...
Found it, and let me tell you, Megan is more beautiful than her posies! She had a pretty little magenta-pink flower in her hair, I scooped up some bouquets, (two little ones for me, one for a relative birthday gift,) and one for WANDA, stopped at her house, but missed her...left her some posies, some blueberries, a note, and two enlarged pics of the Eagle Express, and the Eagle Express with Princess Eagle Paula...
Now I am home, probably might have some tick-control management to take care of, at times I was in grass as tall as I, went all the way to the nest tree looking for turtle shells, couldn't find any, but have a precious little feather.
Well, my friends, this is my Sunday treat to you. And, work never called me for anything at all! Now, this is a Blessed Day.
I guess it is natural for me to apologize for taking up so much of the Blog, but, I thought you would not mind a blow-by-blow. PS: You should see Megan's Flower Power Van! She said she might not make it onto the Blog, so "HEY" and "HOWDY" from her too..
Wonderful report, Magpie. And No, we don't mind you taking up room with all the little details...makes us feel like we were there with you (minus the ticks and bugs!)
You had a really great day, Margy. I bet Megan's flowers are lovely, and know that Wanda will be really surprised when she gets home from church and finds your treats! Hope shower is cooling you off and getting that bug spray off you! Thought for the day from Steven Wright in RD: "Babies don't need a vacation, but I still see them at the beach." LOL. Speaking of beach...Candy, how's it "blowin'" down your way? Helen, has fog lifted? Surf rough, I bet!
Margy is right, it is illegal to have an eagle feather and the fine is huge. There is a National Eagle Repository in Denver where eagle feathers are kept for use by federally recognized Native American tribes and their people only.
This law applies to quite a few birds, so be careful what you pick up.

Gosh! Thanks, Deb. WHoops...I do have a Pileated Woodpecker feather, too, now that I look at them! So many of these birds drop feathers in my woods all the time!!
haze has somewhat lifted, the guards do a fantastic job, they actually had to bring people completely in out of the ocean, but the sun was still on the beach, haze was just over the water....Norma, I am so careful about putting my SPF on, had 2 bad burns when I was much younger...
I think you are right sister. Magpie left food for the juvie. We won't tell Magpie. Did you throw a nice fish in the nest. Just happened to come in Jo so glad I did.
Kent Forum: EagleCam at Lake Washington: I understand through conversation with our cam coordinator yesterday that Tom will be removing the deceased bird for analyzation by necropsy tomorrow (19th). Not sure how long that will take or if it will even be possible at this point but those results will be posted when available.
I was wondering if someone could post the lastest link for Buddy...
And also, wanted to tell you that both Nethy and Deshar at Loch Garten have fledged...Nethy on Friday late, and Deshar today sometime...Orange VS is the DAD, I think I called him the Mom this morning..EJ is the Mom....can't figure out why I get so confused... NORMA: IS IT MY OLD AGE?
Also, when I first saw a soaring something, early on, I was closer to the Day Care Center, and was looking in the direction of the Nest and the Guard Shack, it was way over that way. When I saw the two later soaring, it was in the same area. When I left, the guard had said that he had seen, a couple of days ago, one of the eaglets swooping down over nearer to the nest area, figured it had its Eagle Eyes on something.
MITS AND CEIL: On the way to the nest I was listening to some GREAT classical music on one of the public radio channels, and it was all sponsored by the Baltimore Community College...thought of you guys... xo
Thanks Mema, think you're right, this time I saved the link...should just be able to refresh and get the new stuff when it posts I guess.
Loved your stories much earlier about the grandchildren...THAT KIND OF STUFF makes our hearts do flip-flops too, doesn't it ? Prayers for Christine and Patrick, and ALL OUR TROOPS AND THEIR FAMILIES.
Time for a little nap, (reading first, "On the Wing") then got some photo projects to work on! Got some laundry, dishes, cooking done, and got the posies the way I want them...
Hoping for clear skies to see ISS again tonight...gonna lasso a friend in to see it too..she has a better viewing spot than I!
I see what you mean Paula..nest looks different....there were SO MANY SYCAMORE BARK SCROLLS AT THE BASE OF THAT TREE - REALLY COOL LOOKING...
I didn't have to do much to the posies...Megan has them all ready to pop into water! She bundles everything with this delicate straw-like ribbon, and embraces each bouquet with beautiful tissue paper...just had to take that off and VOILA! Into my favorite vases..
Hope Wanda gets home soon....her posies are in water in a jug, they should be okay, her porch is pretty shady....hope no racoons raid the blueberries though.!
I pulled the cam up before I brought up the blog and I knew someone had been there. Didn't see the turtle shell and the little white thingy had been moved.
Looks like the skull type thing is a little after 12 and maybe the turtle shell at 3. Hi Thelma and Sharon. Will there be lemonade in Bluefield tomorrow.
Hi Gang, Did a little flower potting and had to come in and take a panda nap! I thought the nest looked different!!So glad Margy got to see some soaring & there WAS a nest visit. Every time I leave the Park, I stop in our eagle nest area, but haven't seen anything since the juvie flew over my head a couple weeks ago. They may all go closer to the river, as that's where the food is! Now I'm getting hungry--BBL
Ceil, I don't know if there will be lemonade or not. Haven't heard if it officially hit 90 at the airport or not. August 2 is Lemonade Days where they have a little fair here.
Jo, She had a slight stroke. Her son said she is doing better. They took her out of intensive care. I told him I will water her plants because she really likes flowers. I want them to stay alive for when she comes home. She only has a few boxes out front and some boxes out back. Nest doesn't look wet.
I have to quickly thank Margy for the treat she left for me on my porch...(Dustin wants his turn with the mouse). MARGY...We always visit with GeeGee after church...so sorry we missed you. You know where she lives, stop by on a Sunday afternoon and visit with us. That is the only place where we can surely be found, always. You never know when we are going to be home. I knew just as soon as I saw the flowers, as we pulled into the driveway, that they were Meggy's and that you had brought them by. Blueberries are in the freezer and will be my treat later tonight! Love the almost life size photo of the Eagle Express. Paula looks like a model, trying to sell motor homes! LOL Margy is one of the sweetest, most thoughtful persons I have ever met. So glad she is ONE OF US!!
Sharon: Nice to see Mattie and Justin were BOTH on this morning... do they think we are a bunch of CRAZIES??? I kinda get the feeling that Justin is a hunt and peck kind of guy on the keyboard... I love his one-liners....I could learn something from that...eh?
SHARON: I bet it's cute as can be, watching him at the keyboard...
MEMA JO: Just opened the link to the Lake Washington's Tom Otto's comments, sounds very compassionate, the way they are handling things. I loved his quote from Ghandi at the end of his remarks: “The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.” –Gandhi
And the first link with the photos and nest-building, wonderful. Thanks for keeping our on-line graduate studies going !
Sounds like no one got too walloped by the storm...more wind here than anything, but shut down 'puter to be on the safe side. Still raining lightly, but certainly not enough. Lots of computer problems today...think it's network-related. My last response to you was returned, Margy, and now I can't get on my e-mail again. Couldn't get on Yahoo earlier either! Technology....argh!! Now watch the blogger cop get me...LOL.
Went to B.C. to check Delta nest & those babies are getting big.On their Discussion had info about their Eagle Fest Day, July 14. David Hancock was there of course--& some great eagle pics. We are NOT getting any rain---N of DC. We will roasst for few more days & maybe rain TU or WED.
When I first looked, saw brown, then refresh got the white head, then head down like you said, probably eating... Tough Choice! I did go out and saw ISS sailing through the sky....headed for NCTC ! came back in, looks like Bird all gone...
We're getting lightning & thunder, which we're not supposed to get!!! Lights flickered--will shut down machine for awhile even tho we have surge protecter. BBL, I hope!
Deer and racoon party at PixPA. Overnight, one doe laid near the good sized tree in the Middle of the pic....also just a good sized buck...might not be there next time I look....
MITS: Glad you saw ISS too... Both times, here I am looking, see a plane with lights, rule it out, then look around again and there it is big and bright and zippy....
TTFN - -
working on a birthday photo project to go with the other flower bouquet...that I SAID I was going to give away....
Early Good Night to those headed for the pillows, blankies and dreams....xo
Of course I always have to have ONE MORE LOOK BEFORE WALKING AWAY FROM THE COMPUTER: Hi Anne-Marie, how're ya' doin'? I'm with you, ice cream! Wonder what flavor, and if there is anything fancy on top, like fresh peaches or chocolate syrup with nuts ??? Take Care, Good to "See" ya'".

No live feed since Friday, Jamie.
what is known of the eagle family ? Are the young'uns still returning to the nest to feed?

SO THEN.....
Ready for what, Magpie???? Are you back already?? Did you see our crew?
Great!! We are crossing messages....will wait for more info!

Final report next...
What good news, Margy. You were honored by their presence, and now, at least, we know they haven't decided to migrate elsewhere...yet!
..by then I was getting pretty hot and smelling like tick spray and the lavendar relax mist they have in the Ladies Room and it was time to head for market before noon to catch Meagn's stand...

Off to get washed up...BBL
Wonderful report, Magpie. And No, we don't mind you taking up room with all the little details...makes us feel like we were there with you (minus the ticks and bugs!)
Glad you got to see some of our Mountaineers!
You had a really great day, Margy.
I bet Megan's flowers are lovely, and know that Wanda will be really surprised when she gets home from church and finds your treats!

Thought for the day from Steven Wright in RD: "Babies don't need a vacation, but I still see them at the beach." LOL.
Speaking of beach...Candy, how's it "blowin'" down your way? Helen, has fog lifted? Surf rough, I bet!
You're more than welcome, folks, for all you have done for me...
I will take that little feather to STEVE this week...maybe I will get a chance to meet him if he is there...
Okay, Bubbles and Shampoo..here I come ! xo
Thanks for the report on the eaglets, Margy. I am glad you got to see them, I wish I were closer, but then I would want to go all the time!
Margy is right, it is illegal to have an eagle feather and the fine is huge. There is a National Eagle Repository in Denver where eagle feathers are kept for use by federally recognized Native American tribes and their people only.
This law applies to quite a few birds, so be careful what you pick up.
Magpie thanks for the great report. Now rest. Little buggers are growing up not coming home as much.
Interesting info on feathers...I didn't know that. Any laws about turkey feathers? That's all I've got, from my own property!
-No, it is just migratory birds that there are laws about. I will have to see if I can find a list.
Wow, the list is huge! Here is a link to it:
Migratory Bird Treaty
I would think the fines are different for the various birds, I can't imagine the fine for a crow feather would be the same as an eagle feather. More research!
Wow Deb. Even certain pigeons are mentioned.
No it is way less. I, also, think you would be fine to have a feather, unless you were doing something illegal to obtain them. EXCEPT those on the endangered species list. That is where you get into the big fines. I can't imagine someone coming after you because you picked up a robin's feather.
Thanks, Deb.
I was surprised, too, Ceil. I thought it was just raptors, had no idea there would be that many birds on the list.
Gosh! Thanks, Deb. WHoops...I do have a Pileated Woodpecker feather, too, now that I look at them! So many of these birds drop feathers in my woods all the time!!
I don't think you have to worry, unless it would be a protected bird. I had no idea that common, every day birds were on the list.
I am down to the last load in the washer, towels in the dryer. I don't have to worry about them getting wrinkled, so I am off to run errands. BBL
Magpie - You were blessed!
Happy that your morning was so
beautiful for you! Thank you so much for the full report!
haze has somewhat lifted, the guards do a fantastic job, they actually had to bring people completely in out of the ocean, but the sun was still on the beach, haze was just over the water....Norma, I am so careful about putting my SPF on, had 2 bad burns when I was much younger...

I haven't gone to Kent forum to see if Tom Otto went up to the LW nest.
Let you all know if there is any report on it.
They should have heard you Mits!!

I think you are right sister. Magpie left food for the juvie. We won't tell Magpie. Did you throw a nice fish in the nest. Just happened to come in Jo so glad I did.
Foolish me - just had to check and be sure Live Feed was still down.
It is of course.
Wonder if he is waiting for food.
OMGOSH eaglet in the nest!!
Been there about 15 mins.
Still cam just started acting up
I did the same thing Jo. Wishful thinking.

Good evening blog buddies-thanks magpie for the report! Hope you all are treating yourselves good today.
Sure wish we could have the privilege of some eagle(s) or "eaglat(s)" company!
I pulled the cam up before I brought up the blog and I knew someone had been there. Didn't see the turtle shell and the little white thingy had been moved.
Yeah, somebody needs to go get Mema Jo that turtle shell!
You didn't actually see the shell being moved - with just the still cam going.
It is still sooooo hot here in the valley. Going to grill chicken and have a salad inside at the table!
We'll have to wait for the evening light on the nest to see if the turtle shell is still there...
good evening to all-heading to bedford after a stop in christiansburg-later
If Baltimore gave free lemonade after this week we would be broke.
I think the shell is at 6 in the nest...but the lower middle part
Looks like we have some rain headed this way...
They are calling for heavy thunderstorms in Frederick and Washington Counties until 7:30. They will move our way later. You will get them soon Paula.
West End 2 juvies.
Storm seems to be moving in.....
Just light wind & dark skys right now.
Ceil Has your neighbor come home from the hospital yet? I thought I heard you say you were watering her plants.
If the turtle shell is in the nest it has to be turned underside up!
Now I hear the Thunder Boomers...
Still no rain drops........
Raining in the valley
Still stormy........
Jo, She had a slight stroke. Her son said she is doing better. They took her out of intensive care. I told him I will water her plants because she really likes flowers. I want them to stay alive for when she comes home. She only has a few boxes out front and some boxes out back. Nest doesn't look wet.
Jo, it does look like the shell is there, albeit upside down!
Hello to you all...
We are having a severe weather alert here. Don't know any details.
LOL
Margy is one of the sweetest, most thoughtful persons I have ever met. So glad she is ONE OF US!!
WANDA -
I'm sorry I missed you too! But after my trip to tick-city NCTC I would have had to stand 10-feet away from everyone and no hugs!
I'll remember that about Gee-Gee!
xo Go Dustin, your mouse now.
Yes, Wanda - Like Norma says
"She's a Keeper" .
I got my timer set for 55 minutes to go out and check the skies...for the ISS...
one more night tomorrow then, when again...?
xo
Simply beautiful pose of the West End Chicks....
Nature Nut: Get your nap in? Guess the stormy stuff is working its way towards you too...
here in OC looks like the space station will be coming from the SW to NE at 9:00p.m.
moon comes up at 9:45p.m. so should be able to see it, as long as the haze does not get in the way
only thing we should be getting from Cristobal is rip currents, gee, just what we need more rip currents
I got to see the space station last night but tonight it won't be here until 10:38, hope I have been asleep a while by then.
I feel truly blessed also to have Margy with us now! What a gem!
yes, MARGY, is definitely a KEEPER:)!!!!!!
MEI XIANG IS RELAXING WITH SOME BAMBOO.
every time I turn the panda cam on, keep waiting to hear the tell-tale cry of a panda cub.....but no news yet
If you guys will keep me, I'll Stay!
Thanks!
Sharon: Nice to see Mattie and Justin were BOTH on this morning...
do they think we are a bunch of CRAZIES??? I kinda get the feeling that Justin is a hunt and peck kind of guy on the keyboard...
I love his one-liners....I could learn something from that...eh?
xo
Yes, Margy, Justin is a hunt and peck kind of guy! He loves getting on here!
Mits, I am always listening for that squealing naked mole rat too, but not yet!
I had a lovely hawk swoop down in front of my window this evening. Don't know if he snagged one of my little birds or not, too quick for me!
Two of my 4 baby cardinals are out here eating. I hope the hawk didn't get one of them!
I know, I know - hawks have to eat too but they can do it at somebody else's house! :)
Thanks for keeping our on-line graduate studies going !
xo
Sounds like no one got too walloped by the storm...more wind here than anything, but shut down 'puter to be on the safe side. Still raining lightly, but certainly not enough.
Lots of computer problems today...think it's network-related. My last response to you was returned, Margy, and now I can't get on my e-mail again. Couldn't get on Yahoo earlier either! Technology....argh!! Now watch the blogger cop get me...LOL.
I see we had company. I, too, noticed the skull had moved, so I knew some lucky people got to see an eaglet.
Check out the Grand Canyon today:
Grand Canyon
Went to B.C. to check Delta nest & those babies are getting big.On their Discussion had info about their Eagle Fest Day, July 14. David Hancock was there of course--& some great eagle pics.
We are NOT getting any rain---N of DC. We will roasst for few more days & maybe rain TU or WED.
Helen, you're making me thirsty for a popsicle, and we're out! LOL
Eagle ALert!!!!! One ADULT in the nest.
Gone, only there for two refreshes.
I think there is a fish in the nest. It is hard to see between the webs, ADULT BACK!
oh DEB - Thank you!
HEY, EAGLE ALERT!!!!
Oh, good I am glad someone else gets to see. Eagle still there, has head down eating.
I think it is still there, darn spidey!
Saw something dark in nest---real fuzzy pic.
After the last refresh I can't tell anymore if it is still there or not. I guess that answers the question!
I saw the adult for one refresh!!
Dark bird around 5 o'clock!? Also real dark at 12, but that might not be a bird.
Shuttle time
IT's back! Must be eating and maybe we can't see the head?
Shuttle will have to go by with out me!
Still there!
Eagle still there..eating
I saw a fish in one of the refreshes, Paula, so I think the adult is eating. There is still a dark spot at 5.
Hmmm not sure if still there
The really dark spots are not an eagle
I see those 'really' dark spots normally each night - I don't think they are eagles...
ISS went by right on time;)
I think eagle is gone...
The fish is gone, so the adult either ate it all or took it with.
When I first looked, saw brown, then refresh got the white head, then head down like you said, probably eating...
Tough Choice! I did go out and saw ISS sailing through the sky....headed for NCTC ! came back in, looks like Bird all gone...
Didn't see the shuttle, just Jupiter & lightening bugs! Not even Wanda's moon---might be too hazy.
Raining heavy here. Will be shutting down for the night. Pleasant eagle & panda dreams.
We certainly could have used more rain than we got here...
We're getting lightning & thunder, which we're not supposed to get!!!
Lights flickered--will shut down machine for awhile even tho we have surge protecter. BBL, I hope!
Glad you were on the ball, DEB! That was awesome!
Such an unexpected surprise!
West End Chicks bailed too...Eagle ESP....
and this Blog doesn't want to move!
Deer and racoon party at PixPA. Overnight, one doe laid near the good sized tree in the Middle of the pic....also just a good sized buck...might not be there next time I look....

Back to what I was gonna do but can't remember what it was now after seeing the Eagle and ISS...
Hi everyone, I want ice cream too.
MITS: Glad you saw ISS too...
Both times, here I am looking, see a plane with lights, rule it out, then look around again and there it is big and bright and zippy....

Early Good Night to those headed for the pillows, blankies and dreams....xo
Ice cream does sound good, but I am full right now.
it was beautiful going by, Margy, so bright.....Hi Annemarie, Goodnight Annemarie and everyone....TTUT
Of course I always have to have ONE MORE LOOK BEFORE WALKING AWAY FROM THE COMPUTER:
Hi Anne-Marie, how're ya' doin'?
I'm with you, ice cream! Wonder what flavor, and if there is anything fancy on top, like fresh peaches or chocolate syrup with nuts ???
Take Care, Good to "See" ya'".
Mits are you at the beach? Worried about the storm.
Tee-tut to you too Helen !
HEDGIE, NOT TO WORRY, JUST TRY IT AGAIN WHEN THINGS START WORKING BETTER ON THE 'PUTER...
XO
I am trying so hard to be good and stay away from carbs but tonight I want ice cream!
DEB: You definitely made our evening with the Eagle Alert !!
Glad I saw the eagle, too, Margy.
