Please go to nbc4.com for the latest news on Martha, as Cindi has been reporting on the Momster site. They believe she was hurt again in a recent storm, and if, she survives may never fly again. She is back in the rehab place in Delaware and may go to a place in Minnesoat. Prayers for Martha!!
Well then there is Roy Rogers and Dale Evans Happy Trails to You etc. LOL
Kinda fun but an eagle cam would be so much better.
Thanks Suzanne for stopping, shopping, and the Coupon. I too mentioned somehow coordinating this coupon thing But honestly don't know how to do it, because they do have a 1 week expiration on them, BUT the one you get with your order has a 1 month BUT yes does require a Higher order.
Last time I just posted something on here saying I was going to shop, and if anyone wanted me to send them a coupon to let me know. Worked for 2 although 1 was a procrastinator ((((Suzanne)))
(wide eyes) remembering the video when I read the comment "if your a baboon don't bend over at the pond" lol
Oh my the shows you are were talking about. Remember so many of them. I even have a book showing pics of those shows and alot of others. Plus it has pics of ads at that time it's funny look back. Clothes, cars, old tv's etc.
SUZANNE, those were the photos from last April, after the fight. She has been taken to the Tri-State Bird Rescue place in Delaware. Just checked there is no news update there.
Thank you Suzanne that got me to the news page that talked about her wing. Call me a baby but I'm crying poor Martha. Makes me wonder how does Birdgirl do it?
Did you know this? Dialog from a Tonight Show... Johnny Carson...His guest was Lee Marvin.
Johnny said..."Lee, I'll bet a lot of people are unaware that you were a Marine in the initial landing at Iwo Jima...and that during the course of that action you earned the Navy Cross and were severely wounded."
And you know how Lee was..."Yeah, yeah...I got shot square in the ass and they gave me the Cross for securing a hot spot about halfway up Suribachi. Bad thing about getting shot up on a mountain is guys gettin' shot hauling you down. But Johnny at Iwo I served under the bravest man I ever knew...We both got the Cross the same day but what he did for his Cross made mine look cheap in comparison. The dumb bastard actually stood up on Red Beach and directed his troops to move forward and get the hell off the beach. That Sgt. and I have been life long friends...When they brought me off Suribachi we passed the Sgt. and he lit a smoke and passed it to me lying on my belly on the litter..."Where'd they get you Lee?"...."Well Bob...if you make it home before me, tell Mom to sell the outhouse."..... "Johnny, I'm not lying...Sgt. Keeshan was the bravest man I ever Knew - Bob Keeshan....
I am sad to hear about Martha. I am not going to go see those pictures. I pray she will be OK, and that they are wrong about her ability to fly again. Either way I am glad she has been found and helped again.
Martha has proven herself to be one tough eagle. To see those old pictures and know she survived that, I have faith she will survive this too. I truly believe that as long as we are sucking air, there is always hope (for humans and birds alike!) It could have been so much worse. They could have found her no longer sucking air. Keeping my cup half full here today!!!
As a friendly reminder, Remember, do random acts of kindness. The rewards are great!
Dana Great infor on Bob Keeshan...did you see he stopped in here last night LOL. Paula is right, Must have been an imposter A man like that wouldn't feel threatened by Romper Room getting Blog time LOL.
Suzanne I figured you would know since you had spent time in the army. Husband knew it also he is an ex-marine. Didn't know if others would know that about their Captian Kangaroo.
By the way thanks Sharon for the video of Buta Buta's rolling over. I loved it.
Also thank you for those that said there was room for me in a car to Blackwater. I appreciate that. There is just no way I can travel that far at this time. I am working on making it to NCTC Open House. I know I won't get to see what you all do at Blackwater. Such an adventure. Take plenty of pics and put in the momsters site so I can feel like I was there.
Good Morning to all of you - I think this PC is going to co-operate today-beautiful day. Great News from Steve - thank you so much for letting us know. Not too much planned for today. Been checking all the cams - did not go to old page to read morning events. Video of ButaButa's roll over was fantastic! I wish again that cam had sound!
It is so funny the way Tai uses the tree limbs as a lounge chair. He looks so relaxed. Looks as though Mei would like to go inside. ButaButa peeking out from underneath LunLun's arm.......
she told us the zebras were at the watering hole, and I knew I had the nicer Fraps version now...thought
"Hey that might be something neat to film, ZEBRAS" Well and by the time I got there and had Fraps rolling you saw what I got LOL.
I debated all day on whether or not to send it around. BUT then Of course Lun Lun and Buta Buta came through with a cutie so i just kind of made the whole thing into one movie with some sort of connection LOL.
Haven't been to Africa OR Fraps today...in fact haven't even turned on a webcam yet this morning.
I can tell by Steve's latest comments he really does get in here to read the BLOGS occasionally. He probably thinks we are going "just a wee bit nutsy" in here waiting on our eagle cam"
Good Afternoon Friends, I just read some of the blog and I am in stitches laughing. You guys are a riot. What would I do without all of you. I never knew how much much I was missing. Isn't it so sad about Martha. God Bless her today and we need to continue to pray for her healing. It broke my heart. I loved reading about the hang gliding Eagle. Wasn't it uplifting to know that after all those years, it finally got to soar. love to all of you donna
sad news about Martha, I hope she will survive. maybe they will be able to train her to be an education bird, or at least on display? poor baby..
wv dana you wondered how I'm able to handle these things I see as a rehabber. there are times i wonder myself... i've seen some truly horrible things, to be sure. at the same time, i know that i am providing relief, comfort, or final peace to those that need it... we never take euthanasia lightly, and really try to avoid it if possible. it's such a wonderful feeling to see a bird that was so far down get better and either be released, placed in a zoo, or trained as an education bird. for the ones that just cannot be saved, while we hate having to do it and are deeply saddened by the task, we know that euthanizing a bird is the ultimate act of kindness, giving the animal release from the pain, confusion and fear it is feeling. most of the injured birds we see got those injuries from something humans have done or created -- cars, power lines, cats & dogs, poisons, etc. -- so when we have to put one down, it's very difficult, knowing it wasn't Nature but Humankind that made it necessary. and we do cry for them, we cry a lot! but at least the animal is at peace now, and we know we did everything we could for it... plus, it's hard to be sad all the time when you have a hundred baby birds screaming at you for food, they are just TOO CUTE! Especially quail chicks! So, I don't know if that's really an answer to your question, but maybe it gives you a little insight...
martha's injury I just read the article, and it mentioned that her latest injury is a dislocated elbow. A person was quoted as saying that this kind of injury isn't something that can just be splinted and healed and off they go.
The reason this is such a serious injury for an eagle (or any raptor, for that matter) has to do with all the connective tissues. The elbow, in all animals, is a joint with strong ligaments and tendons holding the bones from the upper and lower limbs together, with a small bone in the middle. In the spaces between the upper limb & little bone, and the little bone and lower limb, are pockets of cushioning fluid called bursa, and cartilage (just like ours).
if the bursa is ruptured or inflamed (called bursitis), or the cartilage torn, the joint will no longer function properly, and will degenerate to the point of uselessness, and will be painful. anytime the capsule of a joint is compromised, say from surgery to remove loose cartilage, that joint will never be the same again.
it's the same reason no one ever has just one knee surgery, the joint just continues to deteriorate because it's protective tissues are not "in factory condition", as it were....
another concern with elbow dislocation is the condition of the tendons and ligaments. these connective tissues are not just one long ribbon, they are made up of individual fibers, kind of like embroidery floss, or electrical wire. if any fibers are damaged, and they do not heal properly, that connective tissue is compromised, and will no longer be as strong or reliable. in some cases of dislocation, the joint has been twisted as well, and that definitely will cause a lot of damage to all connective tissues.
in humans, some people have undergone surgery to repair the tendons and ligaments, with surgeons using T & L from other parts of the person's body, most notably in the wrist, where we have T & L that really aren't used very much, so removing it to graft onto tissue elsewhere isn't a problem.
but this is not possible for raptors. every single fiber of their being is used in daily life, especially in hunting, and if their primary tools for travel and maneuvering are not 100%, the animal's hunting skills will be compromised, causing a downward spiral ultimately resulting in death due to animal attack, starvation, or other circumstances.
This may be more than you really wanted to know, but I hope it gives you a better understanding of why Martha is in such a perilous situation...
ROFLMAO!! I just turned up the sound on my computer, forgot I had the africam still up, chased off every bird on my roof and my dogs came a-running! What is that bird?
I saw that too Sharon, I wondered if maybe someone was coming with a treat or someting...it did happen pretty fast. Watcing lun Lun And Buta Buta now though. can only have one cam going at a time or it won't let me FRAP. I don't just get the sound effects, I get double blur with the new Fraps thing...Trie dit a couple of different times.
Update on the frolicking 5 - all are doing well, smallest hit 1 lb. yesterday, largest is 20 oz. They have started using litter box (with a little help) and eating kitten food mixed with formula. They are so cute trying to figure out how to lap it up. Max, the largest is just a big baby, will have nothing to do with can food mixed with formula - he is a mama's boy - loves his bottle!
They have grown so fast, hard to believe they are a month old already -
Interesting about Captain Kangaroo - that brings back fond memories of childhood.
Prayers out to Martha, and for those whose lives have been turned upside down by the craziness that goes on in this world.
Everyone think positve thoughts, maybe it can change things!
let me guess Mema Jo is out enjoying this beautiful weather. Well if you haven't already seen it, you do have some mail from me I sent after lunch time here.
Buta Buta has been alone quite a wile again. She is so cute. her markings are coming out more and more everyday. And you know she would let us pick her up and cuddle her for sure!!!
Sorry about the "typo" in the email I sent around through momsters. I was so excited about Steven saying they seen Liberty and Belle. I goofed and typed October 34rd lol hum check your calendars mind only has 31 days. lol
Yep except no one helped Hugo so I guess when I look at it like that I feel a little better about Martha. it was still a sad tragic year for that Beautiful Bird!!!
I couldn't in no way do the work that Birdgirl does. Yet to loose one is still hard for them. They have to not stop an help the next one in line; which is many.
I remember recently Steven said as biologist they don't name them.
I agree with you, GLO, as sad as it is, I feel for the people who watched out for her. Sorry I'm not home, because I don't get any of the D.C. channels here, will just have to go to their web-sites. and the Post.
I didn't realize the NU cam was shut down for the fall. A little bit sad again but anxiously awaiting our cam to come back up. It will be here before we know it!
Yes! Tai is completely down from the tree. Walking with one of the trainers who is giving him treats along the way. Mei is already inside eating her Bamboo dinner.
Hmmm OK not a snake LOL. I thikn maybe it is the way the sun is reflecting off the lens or something. Ar first I saw it it looked way in the background..when I refreshed it was on the nest, and yep different spot each time. Could be a spidey funnel cloud
Glo, Right now it is in the center of the nest. It is misty looking - not a real object.. I thought at first it was a shadow... it moves with each refreshing of the cam...Wierd BUT the eagle either isn't seeing it or isn't afraid of it.
well it is weird It is there, and no the eagle could either care less, or doesn't see it, which is another thing that makes me think the camera lens is playing with our psyche which are relatively fragile waiting on our own Eagle cam anyway..
OK, now you know if anyone goes there now they will think "What black moving thing...and we'll be written down as kooks and from the looks of that eagle it went DOWN LOL
Mits, I have to tell you that when we first got on here and you kept talking about Tai, that is what got me started watching him. Boy am I glad I did!!! Thank you so very much for that!
I am fixing to head out to a Financial Aid meeting for WVU and Concord University. Want to try every avenue I can to get this kid in school next year. WVU just costs a little over $10,000 a year.
Wish you well Sharon, Have a good supper Jo and Mits, I will have company for a while this evewning but will check on other visions or imposters LOL later this evening. Until then no bambooning
I'm so sorry I deleted the picture, you could see it on the shot very clearly, eagle did glance at it. At first I thought it was another eagle swooping by, but, you could see the definition outline of what looked like an airplane. Guess there is no way to retrieve deleted items, huh? I was also fooling around with Incredimail, really get bored with just plain old text, but it was slowing me down. So, thats when the pic got deleted.
Just look at that "big boy" sitting there eating his bamboo. Don't worry, JO, I'm going to take myself out to dinner. Want to go to Wal-Mart to look for Halloween pj's for Maggie.
OK well Mits That makes 3 of us LOL. It depends if its still in your deleted folder oR if you have emptied your deleted items. Are you saying you didn't jsut hit Delete, you actually took that second step and emptied all the mail in your deleted folder ?
WASHINGTON -- The Washington area's famous female bald eagle has died.
Martha was euthanized Monday after injuring her wing. Officials said they believe she may have flown into a tree or power line during a recent storm.
Martha and her mate, George, nested near the Wilson Bridge for years. They received national attention in April when a rival female attacked Martha and badly injured her, leaving George to care for their chicks.
The young eagles died while Martha was recuperating.
A bald eagle biologist with Maryland's Department of Natural Resources said that while Martha's death is unfortunate, he isn't distressed by the loss of one eagle. Glenn Therres said the eagle population is now healthy and large enough that the loss of one bird won't be detrimental.
Yeah, think so, I had just read about Martha and I was just pushing buttons, that's ok, I just took some more pictures. GLO let me know if you get them. I just go down the line and I might have missed you. Did you get my Tri-State link that I sent to you??
That sounds like what A bald eagle biologist would say - BUT we as Momsters talk a different talk!!!
Mits I sent a Minnie Mouse outfit to Samantha. That is what she said she wanted - probably because a little girl friend's family brought her the Mouse Ears this summer from Disney. Maggie will look adorable as a little pumpkin!!! That's what our summer babies all wore their first Halloween. Oops! One was a purple dinosaur...
Hi FloralGirl Did you have a busy day. You're home at a decent hour. I know you said that one day of the week you did get home early - can't remember which day you said.
I don't know what I was thinking - I was looking at this stupid 3 hrs behind blog time! I really thought you got home early -- it's already after 8pm. LOL
Another busy day today-get to leave early on Fridays, every other day work all day. Lots of young kids this morning, they are so cute. Today I was in charge of the pumpkin patch!! Definitely looking forward to going to Blackwater, Dana. Are you still going to NY this week, Jo?
Dana, I am going to NY to visit my girls. I guess we'll see each other at the Open House. I sure hope it's a good weather day since I guess most things are on the outside display.
Still don't know if they are doing anything about an eagle presentation.
Okay, someone help me out cause I was reading this mornings comments at the top of this page and you guys were thanking Steve for the update, what update? I don't see any news from Steven on here. WHat is the scoop? Feel like I am missing something.
I'm glad Martha is not suffering anymore. Being a wild bird for so many years, she may not have done well in captivity (she & George had been nesting at that site since 1999).
I wrote a little poem for Martha, not my best skill, but the idea was just there... I hope you receive it in friendship, humour and love. Enjoy!
For many years you graced the sky, Enchanting all the passersby, Until one day your address changed From Woodrow Wilson to Rainbow Bridge.
Your strength and beauty will be missed, And I'll bet George is really pissed, 'Cause now he has no wife With whom to spend the rest of life.
Though our loss is Heaven's gain, In our hearts you will remain, Because, said God today, "Martha, it's time to fly away."

Hi, MAULEY how are you??
Jack rabbit gone, just the noisy bullgrogs left.

Hi Mits, I am just excited that the blog is cooperating and that our eagles have been seen at NCTC. Isn't it a perfect day? donna
Yes, it is, DONNA
Tai is bugging his mom in the grotto.

if the bursa is ruptured or inflamed (called bursitis), or the cartilage torn, the joint will no longer function properly, and will degenerate to the point of uselessness, and will be painful. anytime the capsule of a joint is compromised, say from surgery to remove loose cartilage, that joint will never be the same again.
it's the same reason no one ever has just one knee surgery, the joint just continues to deteriorate because it's protective tissues are not "in factory condition", as it were....
another concern with elbow dislocation is the condition of the tendons and ligaments. these connective tissues are not just one long ribbon, they are made up of individual fibers, kind of like embroidery floss, or electrical wire. if any fibers are damaged, and they do not heal properly, that connective tissue is compromised, and will no longer be as strong or reliable. in some cases of dislocation, the joint has been twisted as well, and that definitely will cause a lot of damage to all connective tissues.
in humans, some people have undergone surgery to repair the tendons and ligaments, with surgeons using T & L from other parts of the person's body, most notably in the wrist, where we have T & L that really aren't used very much, so removing it to graft onto tissue elsewhere isn't a problem.
but this is not possible for raptors. every single fiber of their being is used in daily life, especially in hunting, and if their primary tools for travel and maneuvering are not 100%, the animal's hunting skills will be compromised, causing a downward spiral ultimately resulting in death due to animal attack, starvation, or other circumstances.
This may be more than you really wanted to know, but I hope it gives you a better understanding of why Martha is in such a perilous situation...
Bird Girl
Well Bird Girl, we have our own resident expert! Thanks for all the insights! Does make me very sad and concerned for Martha!
Beautiful Gull still at CT.
BW cam is down.
ROFLMAO!! I just turned up the sound on my computer, forgot I had the africam still up, chased off every bird on my roof and my dogs came a-running! What is that bird?
I think it is some kind of owl, just not sure what kind.
Tai's head looks like it is attached to Mei's butt.
OK Beware i am at Africam. Looks like an owl to me. No zebra or ,bamboons insight though LOL
So is it like sitting by the water hole....and my oh my how does anyone get any sleep over there LOL
ROFLMAO, SHARON, I can see those dogs and birds running now.:):):) Beautiful owl.
Glad to see I am not by myself on here. Did Mei just hurt Tai? He just ran off so quick!
Hello everyone from mama kat
Good day to all!
Hi mama katGood to hear form you. Glad to hear all the little kittens are doing well. Guess the right person came into their little lives.
let me guess Mema Jo is out enjoying this beautiful weather. Well if you haven't already seen it, you do have some mail from me I sent after lunch time here.
Buta Buta has been alone quite a wile again. She is so cute. her markings are coming out more and more everyday. And you know she would let us pick her up and cuddle her for sure!!!
Lun Lun's back with cuddles and kisses.
Now she's standing on her head
I am cracking up here at the comment "Zebras are back at the pond....can baboons be far behind" comment made by Dr. Mits. lmbo
GLO YOU HAVE 2 EMAILS---
How about read the 2nd one first & then GO GO GO!
Sorry about the "typo" in the email I sent around through momsters. I was so excited about Steven saying they seen Liberty and Belle. I goofed and typed October 34rd lol hum check your calendars mind only has 31 days. lol
Eagle at BW
LOL Mema Jo Ok read ya Loud and Clear. I think LOL
Shadow overhead at BW, tried to take a picture, don't know if it worked.
Just read on nbc4. com, that Martha has died.
.Mits. Ok Now that is very very sad. No more to say on that except she isn't suffering and hopefully didn't suffer too long.
They put her down yesterday:(:(:(:(
Jo Please check your mail soon I did have 1 more question for you.
Ok "SHOCKED HERE" the days are screwy got her sending to Delaware. Now they put her down...
Brain needs to register this last piece of saddening news.
Martha soars free in a different place now. Peace be with you.
Martha is with our beloved Hugo.
:(
Yep except no one helped Hugo so I guess when I look at it like that I feel a little better about Martha. it was still a sad tragic year for that Beautiful Bird!!!
Oh, what sad sad news about Martha! Heart sick!
OKAY, I do not want to be sad anymore.
Tai is up in the tree again. God help them and him. I saw them with the fruit on a stick a few minutes ago.
Buta Buta is squirming around under Lun's face!
The chicklets are huddled together on the ledge, probably having a family meeting or something. They are peering up over the edge of the ledge!
Lun Lun just rolled over and Buta is on her back screaming - Mommy,, help me please! and she did! :):):)
EAGLE AT BW. Seagull at CT.
Buta Buta was on her back, wiggling and yelling for Mom. Lun Lun was right there moved over and picked her baby up.
Thanks ladies for a happy scene !!!
I didn't realize the NU cam was shut down for the fall. A little bit sad again but anxiously awaiting our cam to come back up. It will be here before we know it!
Eagle at BW nest
Mystery Image in BW Nest by the Eagle
If any of you are watching BW - what do you think is that brownish long moving object?
Great shot of Tai coming down the tree
OH yuck Jo what do you think a browninh long moving object is lOL Got to go see I guess eeewwww!
I thought at first it was a shadow... it moves with each refreshing of the cam...Wierd BUT the eagle either isn't seeing it or isn't afraid of it.
yep I do see what you mean, I am really glad it isn't a snake though LOL.
Mystery Solved By Sleuth Glo:
It isn't a bird
It isn't a plane
It's a spidey funnel cloud
LOL
well it is weird It is there, and no the eagle could either care less, or doesn't see it, which is another thing that makes me think the camera lens is playing with our psyche which are relatively fragile waiting on our own Eagle cam anyway..
OK, now you know if anyone goes there now they will think "What black moving thing...and we'll be written down as kooks and from the looks of that eagle it went DOWN LOL
Well, the big boy came down out of the tree, went into the den and turned into a baby again. God, I love Tai!
OR up LOL geesh Of course I never took one picture of it, did you ?
I took a pic awhile back, IMHO it looks like the shadow of a bi-plane.
No pic taken of BW - Probably wasn't photographable --just a vision.
I LOVE TAI too, Sharon.
I see the kooks are at it on here! :):):)
Hello MITS
I am going to eat dinner - don't forget to do the same, Mits.... LOL
Yep we're in trouble now. At least 2 of us saw it...that's some better than just 1 LOL
Mits, I have to tell you that when we first got on here and you kept talking about Tai, that is what got me started watching him. Boy am I glad I did!!! Thank you so very much for that!
not photographible Ok we'll use that as out excuse. Cause you know the eagle didn't seem to see it either LOL
I think the mystery guest at BW may be their spider (not to be confused with our "Spidey") up close to the camera.
BUTA ALL ALONE AGAIN.
bb later
I think that is the other eagle just having fun flying by the nest.
SHARON, I AM SO GLAD THAT YOU ARE ENJOYING TAI SHAN I knew you were very reluctant to get attached to something other than an eagle, but, the boy does make for a few laughs now and then.:):):)
Maggie wants to be a "red-hot chili pepper", guess whose idea that one was????
No pictures Mits but I did get the Tri-State link.
GLO I just sent 3 pictures your way.
Going out for awhile. CU Later!!
I think I cleared the house! Never did that before. Lonely feeling.
Only compensation is to take the WAX
WOW Jo you got WAX you want glitter and sparkles with it???
Damn, I always get here too late for the wax!! Hello all!!
Yes, that would be very dazzling!
Hi Floralgirl getting excited about Saturday?
Yep! You going to get yourself a BW T-shirt?
Well, I'm glad I'm not the only one who is thrown by the time listed here, always have to figure out what time it was when comment was posted.-DUH!
I might, daughter has a t-shirt with a bald eagle on it(of course) from our last visit there.
I was looking at the 3 flumped out chicks. The only way I can tell where there heads are is to look for those tail feathers that have come in..
I saw them tody with one of the adults - and they are just as large with all those fluffy feather fuzz.
I was looking at the items from the BW store. Might just have to touch base with Paula and have her get me one.
I just add 3 hrs always for time in here and forget the minutes lol
You can see Buta Buta's little face
Wouldn't you just love to hold Buta and kiss away on that face???
Oh Vicky I want to snuggle her close
She is just TOOOOOOOO cute!
As cute as your little kitty Dana!
Buta Buta is getting to be a rollie polie
I have as much trouble negotiating turns as Buta does!
hee hee Vicky I can't image that for you yes for Buta Buta
I'm here but I'm watching NCIS I like those shows CSI, bones, etc
Okay, someone help me out cause I was reading this mornings comments at the top of this page and you guys were thanking Steve for the update, what update? I don't see any news from Steven on here. WHat is the scoop? Feel like I am missing something.
Liberty and Belle are seen at the nest often again
wax
man my BLOG is slow now this evening I was so worried i wouldn't get that wax LOL
Enjoy!
For many years you graced the sky,
Enchanting all the passersby,
Until one day your address changed
From Woodrow Wilson to Rainbow Bridge.
Your strength and beauty will be missed,
And I'll bet George is really pissed,
'Cause now he has no wife
With whom to spend the rest of life.
Though our loss is Heaven's gain,
In our hearts you will remain,
Because, said God today,
"Martha, it's time to fly away."
Thanks, Delphia. Just enough humor & just enough thankfulness that she did have a long life & it was her name He called.
Love your pic, Delphia. Just what kind of owl is it? So beautiful. I would flip out if I saw it in real life.
Buta is covered with bamboo branches!
