I am back. Going to work a little more on my OT. So disappointed that Lun Lun's cam is still down. I keep her on my screen all night so whenever I get up to potty or let the dogs out, I get to see what she is doing with Little Bit!
I have a question for ya! In that video of Lun Lun's baby, was that not a long tail? They don't have a long tail. They have short little stubby tails. What is the deal with that? Mits, our panda expert, what is the deal with that?
Correcto Mondo...my little "BLUEFIELD BEAUTY" you are very observant. Yes, they explained this when Tai was born. The cub, in fact, will grow into his tail and in a few months you will not see it.
Thank you, Mits. I thought that might be the case. I told my sister-in-law about it and said maybe they would grow but the tail wouldn't grow that much.
I bet you all thought I had gone to the loo again! Sorry for missing out on all the comments this evening.Don't know what those 2 shots the Dr gave me were to do - but I already have slept & feel better. Now: Steve said he would fly to GA & get that cam up & running BW spotlight Remember that BirdGirl uses a light to find her birds. Sharon & Mits I guess I failed Panda I because I thought it was the umbilical cord !!!
NILLA Keep cool watching that game. Who's taking you in tomorrow am?
Paula Spidey was what I first said to Mits when she sent me the photo. But then I remembered about Delphia looking for her injured bird with her flashlight - LOL
Yeah they lost ;( I am taking myself tomarrow cant bother anyone else as they all need to work.. I know i wont sleep any tonight Well going to watch some tv and try and get my mind off this awhile...
One of you mentioned Bird Girl using a flashlight to capture her birds, and that reminded me of an article I read on a Hummingbird site...
Apparently, it is not uncommon for Hummingbirds to get trapped in a garage with an open door, and they head for the rafters first thing, where they run out of energy very quickly.
If that happens do not waste their energy trying to catch them in the light... close the door, they will have to land...then you can get them using a flashlight.
Release them as soon as possible...close to your Hummingbird feeder wouldn't be a bad idea.
You get the idea, and you can look up Hummingbird on the Inet and read the details.
I think I am still in shock that an atrocity like that happened.
I really have the greatest respect for those who were involved directly and for our troops fighting terrorism around the world. And about the best I can do is remember them and say a short prayer for them...maybe send one of those thank you cards from the kids.
I wish we could get some leadership near as great as those people on and near the scene were and are.
Jim Good advice on How To Catch A Hummer. I almost needed that the other day as I left my sliding glass door opened when I went out to retreive my feline friends. That little hummer hovered right at the open door peering inside. So glad he didn't see any indoor flowers!
I think she did, Dana. It would be over on the other thread... I can't remember what she said except that she slept, slept & slept some during the weekend !!!
The other evening you mentioned LunLun not being identified with any meaning wherever you were looking. That YangYang meant - little sea. Lun Lun's birth name given to her by keepers in Chengdu was Hua Hua. Lun Lun was renamed by a Taiwanese rock star, Su Huilun, who "adopted" her at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. Can anyone look up Hua Hua's meaning?
I had seen that written about Lun Lun her name before. Since that is not what they call her I didn't try to find any meaning for it.
Papa Falcon has been doing his part that is for sure Jim. While she set on the eggs he hunted and brought her all her food. Now I think until they get bigger he is still the one that hunts. He has as we've seen relieve her for a bit on the nest or for feeding some. He is a good Papa.
Good Night and Good Morning as it is nearly 2:15am now.. I am very tired and going to try and lay down abit...Thanks for the prayers and the phone calls, having another heart catherization today again honestly i am more afraid this time than afew wks ago when i had the first one. Guess i shall see ya'll when i get home from hopitol..Keep tabs on all the critters for me so i have something to read.. Lol like ya'll would keep quiet.. smiles.. Hugs, Nilla
Nilla As a survivor of malignant cancer, I can say that I think it's wonderful that you're not smoking anymore. Not only are cigarettes basically just poison-sticks, the smoke permeates everything -- clothes, hair, furniture, you name it -- and non-smokers can smell that... My mom is a smoker, and even though she only smokes one or two whole cigarettes a day at home, her home and her textiles all smell like smoke. Anytime she brought something over, like a pair of pants or whatever, I'd have to wash them again! Secondhand smoke is very dangerous, too, so not smoking is good for those around you as well. Cancer is scary, as I know you have experienced too well, and with your heart problems, it's important that you do all you can to be healthier! I know it is probably the hardest thing you've done, but we're all proud of you for doing it! Good luck at the doctor's tomorrow, too :-) We all want you to stick around, so do what the doctor says!
Jim Good point about hummers -- catching one is no easy task, I know from personal experience! They don't make nets fine enough to safely catch them without their little claws or wings getting tangled up.
Did you know that hummingbirds' wings do not bend in the middle, unlike all other birds? They have no "elbow" -- that's important, because they wouldn't be able to flap their wings as much as 200 times a second (males, in breeding season) if they did have an elbow! When we get a hummer in that has a broken wing, we really can't fix it...the birds stress out too much when we wrap the wings to the body, and they almost literally fall over and die.
We've had several hummers for education birds, a few which had lived with us (Fallen Feathers) for several years before passing on...
They are very engaging and brave birds! Definitely one of my favorites to take care of, that's for sure.
The food we give them is not sugar water, of course; they would die in a week or less if that's all they ate! There is a crystalline-powder formula which has all the nutrients they need to be healthy (hummers eat nectar, insects and pollen); the ironic thing is, the ONLY manufacturer of replacement hummingbird food is in Germany -- and there are NO hummingbirds anywhere in Europe!!! It gets expensive, but it's worth it to keep our hummers happy!
mauley what do you teach? what degree(s) do you hold? my mom has three degrees... an associate's in drafting, a bachelor's in human services, and a master's in clinical therapy. the last two she earned AFTER she turned 40! In fact, for her first year of the Bachelor's program, we were both attending the same college! It was kinda cool...
you English gals We miss you on the blog! Great to hear from you again! Thanks for your sentiments regarding the WTC/DC attacks. Doreen You'd best be following doctor's orders so you can heal properly!!! Or I'll come over there and MAKE YOU!!! LOL!
Floralgirl Just curious, if you had to pick just ONE flower as your favorite, which would it be?
Peregrine tidbits! *Their scientific name is Falco peregrinus which means "wandering falcon" *A baby falcon is called an eyass *Their white down will start to be replaced by feathers about 3-5 weeks after hatching *After three weeks, the eyasses will be ten times their hatch weight *Peregrines are considered one the fastest of all birds: they have been clocked in a dive, or stoop, at speeds over 200 mph *They prey on birds they can catch while in flight: ducks, pheasants, pigeons, etc. *Peregrines are introduced into "downtown" areas of many major cities to help keep the pigeon population down (pigeon is their favorite food) *Young peregrines begin flying at around 40 days after hatching *The black "mask" on the face is to reduce glare *The peregrine falcon has binocular vision, see in full color, and can see prey from more than 2 miles away *Peregrines mate for life *They are popular falconry birds, and in ancient times in England, a falconer's social status determined which raptor he (or she, if a Lady) could use; only an Earl was able to use Peregrine falcons [Note: Falconry is the "sport" of using raptors to hunt; it is not limited to only falcons -- everything from kestrals to eagles were used, depending upon one's rank in society] *The first US falconry club, The Peregrine Club, was formed in 1937; it died out during World War II
I hope you've all enjoyed this bit of info! Everyone have a great morning/afternoon/evening/night!
Happy Birthday Suzanne Good Morning all. Time for coffee and Dog treats LOL. very busy day here, at the computer though lOL, so will watch our critters some, and stop in to bLOG occasionally. Make it a good one LOL
Don't know if the black birds are around him or what, but he is sure flapping those wings. Suzanne, whatever that was in the middle of the nest, he still has it, looks like stuck to one of his talons. Not sure if it is a fish or a piece of wood.

That's right, BELLE Beggars can't be chosers. Hi MISS SHARON
I have a question for ya! In that video of Lun Lun's baby, was that not a long tail? They don't have a long tail. They have short little stubby tails. What is the deal with that? Mits, our panda expert, what is the deal with that?

See what an expert you are becoming in "pandaology" You get an A+
But if they did keep the long tail, would we then call them panzards??
Panzards, interesting name! :)
Do ya think I may be getting a little slap-happy.:):):)?
Is there no other place that TAI can sleep besides that ledge???
No mam, just coming up with new words for Websters!
He just wants to keep our hearts pumping!
Well I'm glad that tail of tales got straightened out.
Good question that was Sharon.
I was wondering what that was; ROFLMBO I thought maybe it was a boy. lol
Evening all!
C'mon Skins!

Jo, that is spidey at BW
Paula Spidey was what I first said to Mits when she sent me the photo. But then I remembered about Delphia looking for her injured bird with her flashlight - LOL
Yeah they lost ;( I am taking myself tomarrow cant bother anyone else as they all need to work.. I know i wont sleep any tonight Well going to watch some tv and try and get my mind off this awhile...
Well, I thought that, Jo, when he was first born but when I saw him raise that tail today I knew it couldn't be the umbilical cord.
I'm thinking that there may be somthing wrong with the lens for it to be shing off of something.
Mits in BW its looked like that before at night from the spider.
Our spidey would glow like that too when it went into the infrared light mode.
ROFLMBO!!!!!!!That would be some panda boy!!!!
He would definitely be the envy of all his panda peers!
You betcha all the little panda girls will invite him to all the little panda parties...
Would bring a whole new meaning to his name if they picked Peter Panda!!
Is that Frieda or Frodo on the nest????
I wouldn't want to venture a guess as to it being Frieda or Frodo.... You remember Like is the Spunky or BigBoy!!
Of course, it was always our little SPUNKSTER!
On girls you have me laughing ... panda parties....panda girls....
Jo I'm like you I remember we could tell at first, ie that's Spunky or that's MsInBetween or that's Bigboy later I think that is .....
Who gets the wax?
Good evening and/or good morning...depends on how sleepy you got after I read the last comment (hahahahaha)~~

I just took a couple great pics of those babies but when the blood and guts start, it gets pretty nasty.
Thanks for the info on the hummers, JIM
Dana You better throw in the washcloth with the prize...
Bottoms Up! LOL
Jim, I am with you on that!
Jim Very wise words.
Jim Good advice on How To Catch A Hummer. I almost needed that the other day as I left my sliding glass door opened when I went out to retreive my feline friends. That little hummer hovered right at the open door peering inside. So glad he didn't see any indoor flowers!
I did see 3 chicks also went between 10 sec and 30 sec some of the 30 sec was better.
Did Suzanne say anything this morning about she got her computer hooked to DSL??
I think she did, Dana. It would be over on the other thread... I can't remember what she said except that she slept, slept & slept some during the weekend !!!
Her first day Sat. I think is always a day to sleep...Don't see how she does it....
I missed the Papa feeding the babies...hope somebody got a pic.
Jim
AMEN,JIM!
Suzanne did not get it hooked up. Maybe next weekend she said!
Dana, she did not get it hooked up, slept most of the weekend. Got stopped near a school taking pictures of eagles, police made her move along.
