Hello all! I, too, thought there would be an egg when I returned home from visiting family in Texas. Don't like to hear that Shep is injured! Have we seen him eating? No issues with flying, I presume? Does anyone know how late in the season we've had eggs? I can't get the cam at work so I don't get to see as much as I'd like to. Off to evening chores. SED and prayers for all in need.
Didn't need any unnecessary worrying that he was I injured so pic and title changed
Patti I had issue with cam also was my flash player on chrome just had to add the channel apparently Steve said lots of peeps with issues go in settings/ advance settings.
Evenin' all! Thanks for the suggestion, JudyE. I do have Chrome at work so maybe that's the problem. Whew, VERY glad Shep isn't injured. And thanks for the nest updates here, too.
We finally got a bit of snow here yesterday. Not much but we'll take what we can get. Our "fire season" is not going to be pleasant this year. Most years, it's pretty bad. But that's with lots of winter snow. With no winter snow to speak of, it's going to a doozy. A teeny bit more snow expected tomorrow night so we shall see.
Hi everyone! JudyE, I looked at the advanced settings today but the only thing that looked close was to add a page upon opening. Is that the correct spot? If it is, I hesitate to do it at work, only because if I'm not there others may use my computer. As long as I get my work done, they don't care if I watch but I'd rather open the page myself (versus auto-open). If it's in a different spot, I'd love the step-by-step. I don't think it's flash because other things with flash run just fine.
Have just about a million things on my to-do list for the weekend but I'll try to check on the camera periodically.
Howdy everyone! Thanks for the link, JudyE. Hopefully, I won't need an administrator password to follow the steps. Hope you had a glorious day in yesterday's sunshine.
Sitting here today watching two eagles in the nest. No one is sitting anywhere. One keeps calling out. It sounds like another windy day there. Does anyone know if they are spending the night in the nest; either by seeing them there late at night or early in the am? Hoping we will have eggs and little bobble heads soon.
Good Tuesday morning to all! So glad I checked in this morning to see that Hoda and Lolly has seen our first egg!!!!! We all know that Jo is up there with us, watching over our nest. As Hoda says, hoping for a fledge for Jo's sake! May God shower his blessings on our nest.
Well! Lots of Drama! Some say Belle is hurt. Tonight a fight as another female landed in the nest. Sat in cup. There was a lot of hullabaloo! Flying in and out. Some say the intruder also incubated! The eggwas left exposed several times throughout the day. The last I checked it was dark and two females were on the nest. Steve is away and is aware of the situation. They are VERY SHORT STAFFED! He will check with them and let us know. A reminder NCTC does not interfere with wild life. They let things unfold on their own. They will only step in if they locate an injured bird or animal on the ground. Otherwise, rightly so, they let nature take its course. Keep an eye out and post here when you can.
The camera angle has changed, allowing us a broader view of the area. The nest has been mostly empty this morning. A lone eagle was there for a while and perched on the stump and checked out the view. High winds are forecast for about 24 hours from tonight through Friday night. I guess we just wait and watch nature unfold.
For 13 seasons we have all watched the NCTC Eagles, and it has been a wonder to behold. Some years we have seen three fledglings finally leave the nest, and other years have been heartbreaking to observe with new mates, ice storms, broken eggs, and empty nests. The enthusiasm over the webcam has brought together a passionate group of eagle fans who have grown to love the birds and gain a better understanding of their lives. We are privileged to be passive observers of wild nature.
It looks like this year may bring us another chaotic time. Our female has been in this nest for over a decade, and it looks like another eagle pair, or at least another female, is challenging the current pair for the nest territory. Because of this competitive activity, the egg laid the other day is likely no longer viable. My office overlooks the eagle tree, and things look very calm up there right now.
This nest is in a prime location, only a few hundred yards uphill from the Potomac and less than a mile from a dam that ensures an ample supply of fish. It is the perfect location, what eagle would not want it?
Our eagle biologists have told us for some time now that the population of bald eagles in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed is very healthy, and with this success brings great competition for nesting habitat. This is good news, as only 50 years ago the bald eagle was perched on the brink of extinction. The sometimes violent competition we have seen the past week or two is part of natural selection. In healthy ecosystems, this is how nature works, even though it can be cruel to watch.
We here at NCTC will continue to watch the situation, take your reports, and check around the nest tree. As you know, we will not intervene with wild nature, which is what we are witnessing. The only exception will be if we find an injured bird, we will get it veterinary assistance. We have not seen or found any injured eagles so far.
The success of the bald eagle, and all species in nature take many forms. While this display of competition is not easy to watch, we need to keep in mind that this is how nature works. Viewing this behavior before we had webcams and the Internet was only possible through careful research by a few intrepid field biologists.
Thank you for your continued support and understanding as we move forward. We would not have this community, nor the cam, without the help of all of our friends and partners.
Well today Belle and Shep reclaim the nest. The intruder was on the cup! In they come bombarding her. She flees. Belle lands on the stump. While she is injured in her right talon, it has improved.

JMHO...it does seem most are on fb. Truth be told, with all the "drama" the last few days, I just haven't taken the time to come over to check and/or post. Lazy? Time constraints? Some of both for me. fb does seem a bit easier. I also wonder about Red, as well as Kay, Margie, Jufie and the others. Seems it would be nice for us to check in here periodically to see if they've checked in. I miss Jo's presence in both places. I would certainly post more if there were folks here that aren't on fb. In my mind, you guys are the new admins so ultimately, it's up to you.
I will always be partial to this blog! And I will always peek in!
And will make new threads when needed! Maybe every couple of months is all that will be needed! Will wait to see what happens with this season¿¿ Two other nest are reporting also intruders
Nice to see you Lori. Glad you are active and connecting with the NCTC Nest. Not many posts here, but we still wanted to be available if any of the old timers reach out.
Thank you Judy and or Steve for deleting it. Thank you Judy for telling me how to delete... Yes Granny you are glad you did not see it. Love and Light to you all.

Later, gators!
Both in the nest, moving the furniture.
Shep, I believe, poofed. Belle still there.
Shep back with a "log".
Both poofed.
Back with another "log".
Both are back, nestorating.
Belle is not happy with this "log". It's longer than the nest is wide!
One has poofed, the other is in the attic. I'm poofing for a while, too.
Both have returned.
Both poofed again.
