Happy New Year to one and all!

Pork and Sauerkraut in my house for New Year's and also a redheaded man had to be the first to come in your house for guarantee of health and wealth. My mother was extremely superstitious and came from the western part of NC. My daughter prefers Hoppin' John and she got that from her paternal grandmother, coastal NC. Today I had neither. Don't feel like it! haha

Lynne, there is nothing to compare to seeing an eagle in the wild. Nothing. And I have seen a bear. That was pretty darn cool though.

Hi, Everyone,

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! Wishing you all a blessed 2016. Didn't do much today but watch the Tournament of Roses parade. We did have a pork roast, mashed potatoes, and sauerkraut for dinner. Yummy!

My Sis-in-law, Bro-in-law, Nephew Sean & his Significant Other, Sarah, and his 2 kids, Ian & Chloe, are all in Texas, visiting our other nephew, Ryan, and his family.

Good to know that Margy and Hoda dropped by. I miss both of you!!

Grateful that Darth is feeling better and healing well.

Lynne2, that's wonderful that you got to see an eagle! WOW!

Well, I need to go clean up the kitchen, so will say goodnight and God bless.
SED, everyone! I ♥ us!

Welcome home Steve, Happy New Year!

CONGRATS on the feather CarolAnnne!!

SUZ, I REALLY NEED to see a BEAR. LOL! BTW...what is Hoppin' John?

The horses, Judie, are a muddy mess at this point. So is the pasture, so is the barnyard, so are my boots....
Glad Darth is feeling better.

How you doing Jo?

We have a meteor shower coming up, peaking Sunday night...the Quadrantid meteor shower. This is one of the more active showers of the year. And, it will be the only major shower not affect by moonlight. Should be clear.

And COLD coming too, only a high in the upper 20's for us Tuesday with lows in the teens!

Thanks Steve for the first thread of 2016 and thanks CarolAnne for the call over.

Just popping on to check the box for this new thread and wish everyone goodnight. I will see you in the early AM!

Have been working my jigsaw puzzle. It is going to be the death of me! Took a break and Jack and I played a few rounds of Shut the Box. I like the game....we can pass the box back and forth as we sit in our chairs. lol

Tomorrow a basketball game and then watch TCU in the Alamo Bowl. Certainly wish we were going. A lot of relatives as well as friends will be there. Was amusing to read comments on fb of fans on I35 headed south to San Antonio. They are having fun!

Fun to see so many on here today...Andy, CarolAnne, Hoda, Loweeeeeda, Margy and now Viginia!

Okay, back to the puzzle! Night all!

Thanks for the New Year Thread Steve and Happy New Year. Good morning everyone. Nest looks cold and empty this morning. First work day of 2016 for me. Take care all.

Goodorming my eagle friends. Nest is MT.

I'm playing tennis at 9am and I'm afraid that, if I go back to sleep, I'll wake up too late to eat breakfast and get ready, so my extra hour will have to wait til this afternoon.

Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever even eaten black-eyed peas! Oh well, I hope they bring everyone who ate them yesterday good luck.

Prayers for all of the needs on this blog, especially Jo and Jerry's Rhonda.

Have a greyt day all.

Good morning.

Thank you Steve for the New Year thread. Wishing you and your family a wonderful 2016.

Hope Jo and Kay stop by this morning.

CarolAnne, thank you for the call over and enjoy the first 2016 feather.

Suzan, didn't know about Hoppin John until my early twenties and still associate it more with southern NC,SC low country, New Orleans bayous. I do not like beans so my black eyed peas have to be doctored with smoked ham hock, hot sauce, onion. Don't know about a red headed man but as I was/am a redhead, I guess I was good enough.

Congratulations Lynne2 on seeing that eagle. Sure sign of a wonderful year ahead for you and Steve. Hope everything drives out soon.

Sandi must be on the tennis court. Hope she's winning.

Hi Andy. Just enjoy the quiet time with Kubby and Emma.

Hi Jerry. Hope the work day goes well.

Hi JudyE, enjoy your day off.

Enjoy the games Lolly.

Nothing on my menu today except to wish everyone a wonderful Saturday.

Good Morning Eagle Buds!!!

Welcome back, STEVE!!! Hope you had a great trip!!! Thanks to you for the new thread and to CAROLANNE for dropping by for a feather!!!

Loved reading back over the New Year's Day posts. I was at Julie's where we played games, worked together on a very intricate jigsaw puzzle and dined on our favorite Mexican food.

I'm guessing one must grow up eating black eyed peas in order to love them, and I did and do! Cracker Barrel is a good place to try a little side of them if you want to check em' out.

Doing a load of laundry or two, but otherwise having a laid back day with Penny. Seth will be here for dinner tonight and to spend the night. JUDIE, he goes back to Otterbein on Jan. 11th---two more Sat/Sun's possible for us. Julie's Columbus State sked is not the same and she'll not resume teaching til' the 19th. This semester she'll not have any long days, so Malcolm won't be with us on a regular basis. Just as well with winter weather becoming a reality.

LOL, JUDY! It's easy to get mixed up on dates when holidays bisect the week. As a retiree I have to check with the newspaper or internet now and then myself---days do seem to run together.

Have a great Saturday all and be assured I'm praying for all in need.

I am pulling a JUDYE - I know I had written a very long Good Morning Sunshine earlier.
It is no where to be found. I remember commenting on Sandi's tennis and asked if she had yet written her Leter Of Resignation and I has asked if the new president was a male or female.

Talked to Andy about her dinner - Talked to Judy about her trip to work just to see everyone............ and so many other comments.

I thanked Steve for the fresh new thread and told him to have a good weekend

What I am trying to say is that I Lost It.
Sorry about that - my bad.

I'll be back this afternoon - after I refresh myself with a nap - ♥

Sandi said...

Hi all - tennis was good fun, good exercise, and I won all 3 sets! :)

Yes Jo, I have sent my letter of resignation from the board. Drafted the email yesterday, saved it, walked away from the computer, read it later and felt no different, so I hit SEND. The president (who surely knows that he is the reason I resigned) replied last night, asking if there was any way he could convince me to reconsider because I will be "so difficult to replace." Secretly, he is probably happy that I'm gone, except for the fact that he may get stuck doing the job of treasurer and managing the property owners association website in the short run until he can find someone to replace me.

I don't know what this guy did when he worked for the US State Dept., but he must have been in a position of authority where no one ever questioned his decisions. I find him to be arrogant, dismissive of others who don't agree with him (and I was very vocal in my disagreements with him), and a micro manager. I have worked together with 4 other presidents in my 8 years on the board who better understood how to work WITH people in a volunteer capacity.

We bought Freyja a grocery cart for Christmas and assembled it so she could play with it while she was here. On Thursday, we put it in a box big enough to leave it assembled, filled the extra space in the box with paper, and took it to the UPS store to ship it to Brownsville, TX (after that, the State Dept. gets it to Mexico). $76 to ship it!!!!!! The cart cost $40! So, today we disassembled it, squeezed the pieces into the original box it came in, and wrapped it with brown paper. Denny will take it to the UPS Store and to the post office on Monday to get a revised cost to ship it. If it's more than $20, then we'll put it in a duffel bag and take it to Mexico when we go at the end of March!

Off to the grocery store for me. Later!

Judie said...

Good evening.

Dinner is over. Scullery in order. Jake and Jude and Darth are enjoying a post-postprandial snooze.

I will try to watch a bit of t.v. and contemplate how one puts a grocery cart into a package for shipping. lol

Do hope everyone had a wonderful Saturday. Restful sleep for all.

Happy New Year once again to all of you. I have found some time Fri and Sat to get out with the eagles a little. A boater at the Marina today said they were very active at sunrise this morning so the plan is to get myself there by 7:15 am for a short while in the am. Becky is doing really well. One more day off and back to school she goes. I think she is feeling better than she has felt in several months. So glad it all went as well as it did. Patches and I are both still catching up on our adventure. Life was very different from what we are both pretty much used to. I still remain so proud of her and how well she is adjusting to the many things thrown her way since I got her. I never did figure out what happened to Sandi. I scanned the blog quickly and then went to her fb page but couldn't tell a thing. Whatever it was I hope it is all better now. My prayers continue for the needs shared here and for those not actually expressed too as well we all have those. Saw where Judie sprung a surprise on all of us with 2 new furry members of the family. Life is good, we all are blessed in our own way. Judy tomorrow is Sunday :-) AOYP everyone

Good evening,

Snuggled in my bed after having been out and about most of the day. First bowling, then lunch, then a visit with Kathryn to Keshia's townhouse to gather items she needs while she is at the hospital, then a stop at Target to pick up a few things, and, finally, a trip to the hospital to spend some time with Keshia. Keshia is having more problems with her colitis and was admitted in the wee hours of this morning.

Just heard screams from downstairs. Something happened to cause Allie Cat to get upset, and for some reason she clawed Kathryn on the arm before coming up here with her tail still all fluffed up. She's now settled in my desk chair (Allie, not Kathryn). Allie is our wild one. She greeted Kathryn when she got home after all of our adventures today and informed Kathryn that she was most upset because dinner was late. Very vocal cat.

Not sure what problem you
found for Sandi. I think she is basically okay, Glo. She has resigned from a position at her homeowner's association and is trying to find a reasonable way to ship a shopping cart to Mexico.

Might be easier to return this one and have one shipped via Amazon, Sandi.

stronghunter said...

Meanwhile, Lynne2 is sending a post with only a period. Had to make sure it was not a spot on my screen. Nope. It is a punctuation mark.

Black-eyed peas--I really do not eat them often, but I find them acceptable. I like them with a little sweet relish on them. When I was growing up, we sometimes had peas on a slice of bread to soak up the "pot liquor," as my father called the juice from cooking the peas.

Well, all of you have probably gone to bed. It has been a busy day. We went to Fort Worth to Joseph's basketball game They lost, then after the game found out there had been a mix up and Joseph's freshman team played their JV team. Duh!

Then I had the TCU football game to watch. It was so exciting! At half time they were behind 31 to 0. At the end of the game they were tied at 31. It then went into three overtimes and TCU won 47 to 41. Wow!

I am now too keyed up to sleep!

Night all! SED!!

Good morning.

Sunshine on the frost this morning. Nest is MT.

Glo, so good to see that Becky is feeling so much better and that the surgery was successful. Also good to know that Patches did so well with the travel adventure and that you and your furbabies are doing so well. Yes, we added two older boys (brothers) and they are wonderful.

Oh my! Black eyed peas with sweet relish? Hmmmm. However, when my mother made cabbage, we drank the "pot liquor" with a drop of vinegar added.

Shirley, what happened between Kathryn and Allie? Maybe Allie got her tail feathers under foot? So sorry for Keisha and hope she is better today.

Sandi, have to agree with Shirley. Just get another cart and have Amazon ship it then Freyja will have a cart to take shopping when she visits next time. Or, return the one you still have.

JudyE, please let us know if you are carted (no pun Sandi) off to prison by the IRS.

Lolly, seems the basketball teams were a bit mis-matched; however, Joseph's team got some advanced practice. Congrats to TCU. I think GA Tech also won yesterday.

Jo, tonight is Downton Abby.

Wishing everyone a wonderful day.

Sandi said...

Goodorming my eagle friends - yes Judy, it's Sunday! I hope you are at work!

Lolly, what an exciting football game - good thing you didn't give up on them at halftime!!

It's good to hear that Darth and Becky are both recuperating well.

Glo, I'm not sure what you were referring to as far as something happening to me. The only thing I can think of that folks on the blog were asking me about for several days was the blue light treatment I had done on my face a week before Christmas to treat pre-cancerous spots. And yes, I am fine. As a matter of fact, the treatment worked great - it was well worth the few days of redness and stinging and then peeling. Shirley, I would recommend it if you have worrisome spots on your face that aren't cancerous.

Cleaning the upstairs and doing laundry will make up my Sunday. Since it's supposed to get up to 50 today and then the next 2 days will only be in the 30s, I think I'll also get Janey up to the beach for a walk.

Have agreyt day all.

I knew it had something to do with redness on your face etc. A few days before Christmas I was knee deep in surgery recovery patient ;-). Glad all is well for you YEAH. Early am at the Marina was a bust. Cloudy and not enough light to get much of anything. Enjoyed time with a friend though and we just chuckled at how rediculous it was that we were there on such a morn. Off to church now. Have a good day everyone.

stronghunter said...

Good morning,

What happened between Allie and Kathryn?

Well, Kathryn said something fell (probably knocked down by Allie). Allie freaked out and jumped on Kathryn's chair, somehow ended up on Kathryn's arm, and clawed her before running away with her tail all bristled. She then ran upstairs to my room with her tail still semi-bristled.

I was alerted by Kathryn's screams.

This morning, there was trouble with Cheeto. He discovered that Kathryn had cleaned off the top of her chest of drawers and decided to explore the space. Then, he thought he would pull the sunflower decorations off the basket there. Again, I was alerted by Kathryn. Firm scolding of Cheeto prevented further destruction of the basket.

Kittens can be very interesting.

good mid afternoon to one and to all. it is a beautiful sunny day here ... a little cool, really quite seasonable @ 50. just feels cool because a week ago we were @ 75+.

its been a good day here. fairly quiet. the washer overflowed on the spin/rinse cycle thereby dumping water downstairs. remember a few weeks ago when I decided to wash some rugs and they fell apart....tom had to take the washer apart to clean out the pump....well he thinks the remainder of the rug junk got stuck up in the drain pipes along with some icky drain pipe stuff and caused another clog. he snaked it and now all is well.

my hero!

I've done some dishes, straightened up, doing laundry. I have a pork roast in the crock pot and just put some taters on.

and dogggone it, all of you talking about kraut. I bought the stuff yesterday to make a nice big pot of sauerkraut. I will share a good bit of it with Chelsea and chris ad tom isn't going to touch is nor is Olivia. I think Michael still likes it and not sure on niki.

easy enough to make plenty, though.

I've been reading my book and just decided to take a break and check in. It looks as if everyone is doing well. JUDYE: if you get hauled off to prison, let me know what kind of cake to bake with your hacksaw in it, lol. JK JK JK!

hard to believe this is my 3rd of 5 days off. I slept Friday due to a lack of sleep Thursday night. yesterday was groceries....but few people in the store so that was a plus.

hope everyone has a good afternoon/evening.

Oh my we are going stir crazy and so are the dogs! The wind has been SO awful....we wanted to get out for a nice long walk. If we head to the woods, the wind isn't as noticeable but branches are snapping off of trees all over the place here so that it out. And if we take an open trail the wind is too brutal. UGH! Still going to be windy as heck tomorrow and Tuesday and colder. Maybe Wed. will be the day!

Chance of flurries tomorrow! Storm coming this way for next weekend but looks to be too warm for any snow.

Oh my Cheeto. Bad Kitty! Shirley, cats love to be up high so that's sort of to be expected. Do you have any of those window perches that hang from window sills? They'd probably LOVE them, especially if they can see the bird feeders! But, kittens will be kittens....LOL!

Sandi, I was confused about your letter of resignation....somehow I missed that it was from the HOA. Love the picture of you and the Three Amigos on FB!

Lolly, what is Shut the Box?

Don't forget to watch for meteors tonight!

It is a simple dice game that comes in a small box. Google it, I am sure you can find it. Jack is going to make one for Joey's birthday. Also, Laurel is going to give one to Zach for his birthday. They were playing it Saturday night and Zach caught on quickly. He is good with numbers! It is, like I said, very simple but fun!

Hope to get to an Apple store tomorrow and see if there is anything to be done with my Ipad. So sad! Michael gave it to us a few years ago at Christmas. I too it over, love it. Much more so than this laptop. Like to play games on it. You know, the important stuff. LOL

Hello to all ♥ This was my Jenny Sunday - then a short nap - then football games.
Redskins won but Ravens lost.
Hoping everyone didn't get into to much to do today. It is really brisk out there - sunshine but cold with the wind.
I was able to watch our Royal Eagles Couple for a few minutes this early evening.
They should start their bonding soon. Fl & now VA - WV is next.

I am getting prepared to watch Downton Abbey's new 6th season. There won't be a season 7. So I'll enjoy this one that starts tonight at 9:00.

I want to wish all of you a Good Evening - a Restful Sleep - and a good Monday....
(JudyE said that today was Sunday) Goodnight to all ♥

Downton Abbey was awesome! Watched the preprogram as well as the followup. A lot of great stuff. Jack and I both enjoy the program.

Really did nothing today but work on this puzzle.

Prayers for Laurel, please. She cooked with their outdoor gas grill tonight. Later on she went out and thinking the grill was off, touched it to see if it was cool enough to cover it. Well, she badly burned 4 fingers of her right hand. She immediately got it in ice water and a friend brought over prescription burn medicine and gauze pads. She is thinking she won't get much sleep tonight because of the pain. She has in service tomorrow and will go to the doctor if still in pain. I just hope she does not have too rough of a time while it heals. She will not be able to write and that is not good for teaching. When I talked with her, an hour after it happened, she was shaking. Pain and stress!

Back to the puzzle. Night all!

Lynne2, there is one of those kitty window seats in my bedroom. I put it there for George. Cheeto enjoys it. But they especially like their cat tower in the family room window. They can watch the bird feeders from there.

Good Morning!

Happy birthday Lydia!

OMG....you don't know COLD til you have to take care of horses when it's 10, yes that is TEN degrees. The ground is frozen solid but the bad news is that the mud created by all of the rain and 3 1000lb horses was all pocked and now it's like trying to walk across a sea rocks. Poor TR has really bad knees and he wouldn't even venture out of the smoother part of the pasture to the fence for breakfast! So after I fed the other 2 had I to walk TR's out to the pasture. Then there was the inch, yes INCH think ice in the water trough. Had to break that all up and remove it. And they also ate every last bit of hay and there isn't any more! There was only about a bale left in the rack and that's really not so much for the 3 of them. Michelle, the barn manager was going to come this past Saturday with more, and a heater for the water but she didn't, and hasn't come yet. I just called her and left a message. It's not like her. '

Tomorrow, when it's 37 and the wind is gone it's going to feel MARVELOUS!!!

Lynne2 said...

Shirley, I'm glad you have a window perch AND a tower near a window! Cats love, and actually NEED to be able to get vertical. Plus the tower offers a sturdy vertical place for them to to reach UP to scratch and stretch.

We don't have room for a tower but Joker is able to observe his world from the second floor at either sliding door! He also likes to go out on the deck where he often goes through the side and up to the roof. Scared me to death at first but even at almost 15, he's in VERY good shape!

Oh my, wrote this hours and hours ago and forget to hit send.....
