There was lots of eagle noise coming from the tree throughout the day yesterday - one or both eagles were staying near by. Wonder if they are guarding their territory from another eagle who's coming too close?
Since all of the female eagles in a geographic area become fertile at about the same time, then sex happens at about the same time for any pairs of eagles. And a female who doesn't already have a nest who knows it's time to lay eggs, is looking for a place to lay them. Seems logical that there would be a lot of competition for nests right about now.
I hear one eagle calling out from very close by and the other answering from a little farther away.
While we're waiting to see some eagles, here's a recent "issue" at my school. The doors to our classrooms can only be locked using a key and standing out in the hallway. My hallway is the first one when you come into the building from the main entrance. After the shooting at Sandy Hook, the teachers on my hallway all met and decided that we would keep our classroom doors locked at all times, we usually keep the doors open into the hallway while we're teaching), and that we would cover the window in the door with construction paper that is folded in half and held with paper clips so it only covers the top half of the window but can be dropped down quickly to cover the whole window in the event of a crisis.
The problem is that there is a district policy that doors cannot be locked when there are students and teachers in the rooms, and the windows cannot be covered (not even the top half). This policy was put in place a few years ago when the asst. principal at one of the high schools was arrested for having sex with one of the students. The district wants to minimize opportunities for sexual misconduct in classrooms.
On Friday, all teachers got an email from the principal stating that he has noticed a lot of locked doors to classrooms lately (I guess other teachers came up with the same idea we did). He has requested that all doors be unlocked and all paper removed from windows.
Sandi, we have had the same conversation. Our doors also only lock with the key from the hallway. And we are not allowed to cover the window on the door. This week we noticed 2 people in one of our empty classrooms on our floor. We were so pissed. No one in the office thought it was important to let us know that someone was going to be on our floor and inform us.
I read an article online yesterday about a dad who walked into his child's elementary school this week and announced to the greeter at the front door, "I have a gun." (He didn't.) He then walked proceeded to walk into the front office, looked at the people in there, and announced, "You're dead and you're dead!" He was arrested and fined but he made his point - that his kid's school is no safer today than it was on 12/14. Nothing has been done/changed to keep kids and teachers safer.
Don't get me wrong, I NEVER want to see armed teachers, administrators, or custodians, but improvements that cost money will be slow to happen. Keeping my door set to lock as soon as I close it costs nothing and gives me just a little peace of mind.
I replied to the email that I agree that sexual misconduct in schools is a scary thing, but bullets are pretty scary as well. I went on to say that I have a real problem with being asked to stand out in my hallway to lock my door if there is a lunatic with a gun in the building! I said that, until and unless the district is going to replace the lock on my door with one that allows me to lock it from inside my classroom by turning or pushing in a button, it is going to stay locked. That was at the very end of the school day so I haven't gotten a response from him.
And Good Morning to you! and all here now and to follow
Eagle sounds pretty....unsettled when he or she cals out...could be a tumultous day...What eagle Wouldn't want the Sycamore Palace! But I have trust that Belle and Shep shall hold their territory!
Sandi, I think your reasoning for the locked doors and paper is very common sense to me!
Larry and I are going to go try and look for an eagle nest today...if this fog ever lifts! We think there might be one up in the mountains, where the town reservoir is located.
SORRY about all the ooos last night. Did a face plant, posted without looking and I do not have a garbage can to DELETE. Went to a Banquet at Berryville (Enders Fire Co.), lots of friends, family and schmoozing...didn't get to bed til late...thus, the FACE PLANT. Just can't party like I used to:)
quiet rainy morning here in nashvegas. we are indeed expecting flash flooding, etc. but we are up on a big old hill (welcoem to nashville!) and we are fine. as long as it isn't 13+ inches like we had in 2010.....it was bad here then.
i suppose thunderboomers as well....haven't turned the tv on yet.
i had a marathon sleep session. lol. shows i am not used to a one month old baby's schedule...i went to bed @ 8 last night and didn't get up til 8 this morning!
chels and tom watched the play offs yesteday. i just fought to stay awake. i did fine til we went to o charleys and i had along island ice tea with dinner.....oops...sleeeeeeppppppyyyy.
On locked doors in classrooms... I remember getting a memo asking what we thought about having doors that could be locked from inside the room.
Sounds like a good idea except that I can imagine situations in which it would be inconvenient. I can imagine a teacher stepping outside the door for a moment and finding that her kids had locked her out.
Sometimes it is necessary to step outside the door to speak to a student or to someone else, for example.
Of course, the teacher can take a key along at all times.
This is not to say that I don't agree with you, Sandi. I fully understand the concern you and the other teachers have about the doors.
It is a good idea to have paper ready to cover the window in the door. I tried to keep paper at the ready for that purpose. We were not supposed to cover the windows, either, though they did not complain if the window was only partially covered.
I hope you and the other teachers get a satisfactory response to your concerns. I am sure you are not the only one who took a stand on that issue.
We once had an assistant principal who liked to pounce into the room unannounced as if he might find us doing something wrong. One day, he pounced into my classroom and announced that the students looked distracted. One of the boys immediately responded by saying that everyone was just fine until we were so rudely interrupted. Loved that kid. Son of a Baptist minister.
Sandi-We recently had a janitor who left and we didn't trust. All the locks were changed at the school. Now this happened and they don't want to reinvest in new locks again to make them able to lock on the inside. OUr building is OLD OLD!! All of our doors to the school are locked and we have cameras at all doors. It still doesn't prevent people from coming into the building. The high school my kids attend is in worse shape. The students go from building to building around the campus. These doors are now being locked, with someone at the doors between classes. How long do you think that will last!? HA
Glad that your computer has not been taken over by the Letter O, Wanda. Was a little concerned for awhile. Can't imagine what would have happened to your trash can. It is a mystery.
Wonder if the wandering sandperson has stolen it. Perhaps it is were the Sandperson keeps the magical sand?
My older children went to a middle school that had separate buildings for different classes--you entered most classrooms from outdoors. That was thought to be a good idea for a few years. Thank goodness, that school has is not like that anymore, but imagine what a nightmare security would be on a campus like that.
Good morning everyone. Well we didn't get our 3 inches of snow :-( But we did get about an inch. It looks more like winter to me now LOL. Prayers for all. HAGD
The thing about having doors to the buildings locked is that someone on the outside can always get someone to let them in simply by knocking on the door. There have been times that I've been very happy to see someone come let me in, and I once let the superintendent in when he was knocking. And it would not be safe to lock everyone inside.
Good Morning ! With our society behind locked doors at our schools means safety to me. I can't condone the school systems after all these deaths not taking positive action to protect the staff and teachers. Like fire drills are mandatory so should be Lock down drills in my opinion.
Been reading back. Loved the discussion on locked classroom doors. I covered the window on my door with construction paper. Before we had locked outside doors, I had a father who would come at the end of the day to pick up his son stand outside my door and make faces at the kids. Talk about disruption!!!!!So, up went the construction paper and loved it when the doors were locked and we took the kids outside to be picked up and parent could not come to the classroom.
I just need to rest my back and hip. They ache, and I admit I have been over doing. I had another stressful day in Denton yesterday, watching my daughter do all the heavy moving.
Had a parent standing outside my door once. She wanted to apologize for questioning me when I said her son's shirt was inappropriate--a "Coed Naked" shirt, it was. She did not know that "coed" meant men and women together until her husband explained it to her.
She wasn't dangerous, but I really wondered about her mental abilities. But she was nice enough to apologize.
Yes, it is irritation to have the twirly arrow. With all the successful cams out there, you would think they would know what to do to eliminate the arrow.
I went to full screen to look at theat stick and to determine what I thought it looked like, but come up with nothing better than what has already been mentioned. lol
Jack and I just had a discussion on the twirly arrow. More storage for data is needed, something somewhere...the server, needs to be updated. Guess this is a matter of lack of $$ and can understand that.
Didn't you just love it when the parent is more disruptive than the kids. Made the mistake of inviting a parent to join us once, and she could not keep her mouth shut. Even had to ask who was seated in a desk behind a bookcase. I had a boy isolated there so he could concentrate. Geesh!
Wahoo, he dood it ! Took me a while to get back here as there were several things Hugh wanted to do to fine tune the system. He also taught me how to change the date/time on my "new" answering machine. Once he left Penny felt the need for a good walk. In between times I caught sight of our beautiful eagles. I'm so glad to be back. Need to at least read this page of posts and hope that gives me the feel for what's up with you, my dear Eagle Buds ! Feels good to be back up with our birds on one screen and the blog on another. All I hear right now are geese chatting away. BB soon !
Well, in reading this page I see wonderful sightings of Belle and Shep--busy with nestorations and nestcapades ! Whoopee for making whoopee you two !!!!
I don't find much in the way of prayer requests here, so do catch me up if there are needs I probably don't know about, please.
Almost wish I hadn't read about all the concerns you teachers and former teachers understandably have. My Julie teaches at our large downtown Community College and it often worries me. I find it disturbing to hear about so many angry students who decide their profs are plotting against them and causing them to fail. I pray none of them ever decide to copy cat the carnage we've seen too much of in the past decade. I pray for all of you dear caretakers of our precious assets and the hope we have in them for the future !
Love and prayers for all as I go to e-mail for the 1st time today...
Wahooooo!!! I see our Kay!! So glad you are back. You have been missed!
Have been on a roll. Laurel gave me new pyrex mixing bowls with lids for my birthday. That got me to cleaning out my cabinets and then attacked the drawers. Jack and I have been chunking junk left and right! I do not know about you, but I hold on to things I think I might need. But, this time, if we have not used it in years....out it goes! I had chops sticks taking up drawer space. Really? Out they went!
I did get rid of several mis-matched mixing bowls...and old tupperware bowl, some glass bowl I inherited from Faye. I cooked perfectly fine with them, but now I have a pretty matched set. lol
Hi Kay, welcome back. Did you see where Shep confiscated Jo's eagle cane and took it to the nest? Yep, I think he used it to pry off a turtle shell that was, seriously, given to Jo.
Yukky here today with lots of fog and mist. Hmmm, I think fog might actually be mist. Oh well, been watching t.v. and pretending I don't have to return to teaching on Tuesday. Only sorted through some notes today. I'll try to do more tomorrow.
Thank you LOLLY ! I love that good feeling you get when delving into long collected and really unnecessary stuff ! Out with the old and in with the new. Eileen gave me a great set of Cuisanart Knives for Christmas. I have vowed to treat them with respect---they will never see the inside of the dishwasher ! Had a ball going through and throwing a bunch of mistreated knives into the Goodwill box. Hope someone finds them worth sharpening and useful !
LOLLY, haven't fully caught up, but want you to know my prayers include your dear Jack ! And you !
No eagle nest this afternoon. First, it has stayed gray and damp all day and in the 40s - not my kind of outside day. Second, I came home from tennis with a headache - not feeling sick, just feeling blah! So, the eagles will have to wait til another day. If they lay eggs, there will be plenty of time to watch them.
Did some laundry, took a short nap and still feeling a little headachy. Drinking tea and getting ready to park my butt on the sofa and watch a movie. Fog is rolling back in - maybe I'll get a fog delay for tomorrow morning.
Sorry to hear that Michael didn't have a good night - prayers that today is a better day for him and his swelling goes down.
Kay, woohoo!! So good to see you back on the blog!! Thank Hugh from all of us!!
that was short but sweet Now I can say I did see the eagle today not just heard them I spent lunch at the park and watched the eagles there no cam with me to take pic ;-)
We have a serious problem here. Finally taking down the Christmas tree. It is a new tree and we bought a new bag for it....and now can not find the bag. We have searched high and low! Geeeesh! Tree may stay up without ornaments.
I wonder if we should ask or mention the twirling arrow only during the day to STEVE and not at night and see if he has a soloution Just a thought I don't believe the guy on the feed page how he explained it then it would do it at night I would think We did have some issues last year but not all day long like it is now After all the guy on the main page with FB says there is no infra red light LOL
Have you all noticed that they are still call SHEP BEN on the front of the OD page in the facebook area and Off course when I make a comment I put Shep in there several times I wish they would change his name the poor public will be cornfused Maria on Facebook noticed it and emailed me about it thinking she may have missed something happening to s'hep I assured her he was fine they are just using a different name
OH I forgot to mention Tracey at work has a eagle in a pine tree across the street and they have two eaglets in it now Her neighbor that owns the house wants to put a cam on it also WOW huh I told Tracey to get in contact with the people in FortMeyers the owners of the realtor since they just did it can point them in the right direction That is the nest that they put the eaglets in last year from the nest that got damamged its in NewPortRitchey
Ha! Beat you, Shirley! Jack finally found the bag in the closet in the study. Tree is down, bagged, and we managed to get it in the closet in the "Laurel" bedroom. I did NOT want to put it in the attic and getting it up there would have been horrible!!!
Nativity set is packed away. Now all we have to do is get it all out of the house and up into the attic!
Hey I forgot to say when I came today after work my cam had the BIG ARROW remember the white screen I just clicked on it that is on the pop out cam too I though how odd it still did that
Just got back went to grab a bite to eat BKL and found out that they go some kick but LAVA BROWNIE BITES almost as good as Dominos LavaCakes I am a bad girl LOL Wanted the sweet potato fries but that one doesn't have them bummer
Wheeee Doggy, Welcome Back Kay ! What a sight for Sore Eyes...
Lots of fog coming back from Berkeley Springs...
Oh, more H-P I read about, Wheeee Doggy about that too!
James was in top top form today, jolly and joyful ! I asked him if he would like some snow and get some snow days, he says, not really, I like going to school ! Music to my ears ♪ ♫
Lolly, you sure get a lot done all the time....You could go into business being a time management expert! And an organizing and everything else kind of expert !

Nothing fun at all Lori. Having trouble finding any motivation. I think I will spend the day on the couch with the dogs!
Aric flies back to Dayton today.

That's funny, PAULA! I just noticed the eagle cane stick. Didn't notice it before! Kinda hard to figure it out...like a where's Waldo? lol
Lori, I have seen it since the live feed became active...didn't notice it before then.

The eagle cane stick--I had noticed it and thought it looked like a bird sitting on that branch. Hadn't noticed how much it looks like an eagle cane.
Haven't heard any eagle calls in a while... Hope they're nearby.

Wow, lots of action!
Wish the feed was more smooth
Lori, I would guess we would see an egg around the same time frame as last year.
Hopin' so, PAULA!
I think Belle found a nestover and is working on it at the 12 spot
Good morning! Fun to get on and see two eagles in the nest.
Playing hooky from church this morn. Slept in instead.
Need to read back to see what is going on.
I see there has been some hp this morn. That is good and we are beginning to see an egg cup.
Good for you, Lolly!
Good Morning, LOLLY! Glad you were able to get some extra sleep. :)
Now they are just hanging, and looking around.
Sehp flew off to the left.
That was cool...the cam stopped while he was in flight above the nest!

Good for you, Sandi! Stick up for your safety!

Yes, it is irritation to have the twirly arrow. With all the successful cams out there, you would think they would know what to do to eliminate the arrow.
I went to full screen to look at theat stick and to determine what I thought it looked like, but come up with nothing better than what has already been mentioned. lol
Poof Shep!
Shep back! They are really doing nestorations.
Busy couple this morning.
Shep keeps tackling that large stick.
POOF - MT nest
Jack and I just had a discussion on the twirly arrow. More storage for data is needed, something somewhere...the server, needs to be updated. Guess this is a matter of lack of $$ and can understand that.
Poof both eagles.
Didn't you just love it when the parent is more disruptive than the kids. Made the mistake of inviting a parent to join us once, and she could not keep her mouth shut. Even had to ask who was seated in a desk behind a bookcase. I had a boy isolated there so he could concentrate. Geesh!
Poof and poof. Magical poofs, they were.
Yes Shirley! I agree.
Lolly....You are the Whirling Dervish, and I hope all the aches and pains go away
hear a downy woodpecker now
Daughter was well-behaved. She was embarrassed by Mom.
sometimes I think the twirly arrow is a new critter in the nest
especially if I am across the room watching
Well we do sometimes consider
Sunday to be a Day of Rest....
I think that is a good idea!
off for a short nap then a hike to Berkeley Springs for some
grandson time
xoxo Prayers for Wellness All Around ♥
Have a nice time with James, MARGY!
Have fun, Margy.
Heading out here very shortly...fog hasn't lifted yet...but..
Jack is vacuuming and has started the laundry. I am blessed! Time for me to start my day now that the eagles have departed.
I'll be back!
Off to do some shopping. Need to get some birthday things. We've not celebrated for Will and Susan yet. Susan is still in NJ, but Will is around.
Enjoy your grandson time, Margy.
test
Hi all! There's an eagle in the nest - Shep!
Now both!
I see a "test" post from Kay - hope that means son-in-law is getting her back online!
Coming through loud and clear, Kay!
BBL. Must find food.
It is still so foggy/hazy here - looks like clear skies at the nest.
That is my eagle cane Now I know where it is and can stop looking for it! I'm
glad Shep took it up there!
Watching a movie BBL
And you !
Time for a JO-type nap ! zzzzzzzz
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
Kay, you're back!!! We've missed you so much! So glad Hugh could come over and get you all fixed up again!
Later!
Guess I missed a comment about Jo's Michael. Hope he's better now.

We have a serious problem here. Finally taking down the Christmas tree. It is a new tree and we bought a new bag for it....and now can not find the bag. We have searched high and low! Geeeesh! Tree may stay up without ornaments.
I put the pic in the album I got two of the HP approach from the still cam
I wonder if we should ask or mention the twirling arrow only during the day to STEVE and not at night and see if he has a soloution Just a thought I don't believe the guy on the feed page how he explained it then it would do it at night I would think We did have some issues last year but not all day long like it is now After all the guy on the main page with FB says there is no infra red light LOL
I set my lap top so when I turn it on that the nest page is my main page instead of google might save me a few min LOL
Oh, Lolly, that means I might get my tree down before you get yours down.
In her later years, my mother had the perfect solution. She had a small tree, and she just stored it decorated.
Good points, Judy.
I am uploading the quickie video I got of the HP just cause I can LOL
Have you all noticed that they are still call SHEP BEN on the front of the OD page in the facebook area and Off course when I make a comment I put Shep in there several times I wish they would change his name the poor public will be cornfused Maria on Facebook noticed it and emailed me about it thinking she may have missed something happening to s'hep I assured her he was fine they are just using a different name
I put one pic and the video on the nest blog
HP this eveing short short missed the start
Rats!! Sounds like I missed some action at the nest - good to see and hear that our eagles are "gettin' busy!!"
Probably won't get back on the blog so I will say goodnight now. I'll see everyone in the AM!
Prayers for all the needs on our blog.
OH I forgot to mention Tracey at work has a eagle in a pine tree across the street and they have two eaglets in it now Her neighbor that owns the house wants to put a cam on it also WOW huh I told Tracey to get in contact with the people in FortMeyers the owners of the realtor since they just did it can point them in the right direction
That is the nest that they put the eaglets in last year from the nest that got damamged its in NewPortRitchey
OH MY you gotta watch this I am a Daddy and I know it a paradoye to I'm sexy and I know it I loved it
I am a daddy and I know it
