Hi, JudyE. Thank you so much on ID for your fence bird!! That is so cool. I don't think we get them here, but then that was such an unusual comment earlier about someone in Canada seeing a painted bunting!!!!

The comment about the Painted Bunting and what Margy said about my grandson, is so true. It is in his bucket list of things to see and do, some day. He has been a bird lover ever since he was JAYDEN'S age (2). GG showed him a robin's nest, right off of her porch. He would lay down and watch it for a long time. He called it "BOID". Once he entered college, he studied Environmental Science and birds, in particular. I'm proud to say that he could name any bird that DEB would photograph and send to me for him to identify. I would venture to say he can name any bird in the US. WANDA...enough bragging. I asked him once, what bird he would most like to see that he never has, and it was the Painted Bunting. They are in the Carolinas, in addition to the other mentioned states. I would agree that it is the most beautiful bird we have.

Costume Lady said...

Judye, I buy those single serving packs for GG, that way, she will eat it all and not feel overwhelmed by too much food. She also loves the Ms. Callendars and Boston Market dinners.

Lynne2 said...

that's very cool Wanda...and please brag away! The PB's are indeed in the Carolina's in summer time...the range map indicated mostly along the coast. Not so far away for sure!

Loving all of the purple on here tonight!! Such beautiful avatars!

Costume Lady said...

GG was feeling good today...she was dressed in a new shirt/jacket that I had bought her a while back, had her hair arranged nicely and some lipstick on. She hasn't been bothering with makeup for a long time, even when we go out somewhere, which saddens me. So, I was habby to see her 'pink' lips today:) She even cooked herself a Marie Callendar dinner without ruining it:)

Lynne2 said...

JudyE.....Paula mentioned before, I think it was Paula, and it rang a bell....there was a post from Steve with a new thread a couple of days ago that the cam would be down for maintenance the week of the 21st so I suspect it just happened a bit early.

Kay said...

Thanks to STEVE for the new thread and to LORETTA for the call over !

Didn't mean to raise any alarm by not showing up til' now. Seth did stay here last night. Julie picked him up about 10:30 this morning and I went right to work on laying out all my stuff for the trip. Will pack the suitcase before bed and be ready for Julie to pick me up at 7am for the trip to the airport.

At 2 I picked the family up and we went to a terrific H.S. performance of Hair Spray. Knew a young man who had the role of the mother---if you've seen the play or movie you'll understand that ! Afterward we had burgers at Julie's. Hmmm good !

DANAMO, those cookies look good enough to eat !!! Tell Adam and AnneMarie they'll get their own batch when they go to college. The Lab pic is sooo cute and I'd not seen the pic of your parents adorable dog before. Love dogs !!!!

CAROL-ANNE, praying for Benjamin and taking my prayer list with me---will also be on e-mail and watching for news.

LYNN, so glad you're stylin' ! As a nurse you know better than to let the pain get ahead of you. Keep them in your system. Happy to hear the girls are switching off and taking good care of you. I know how wonderful a daughters loving care is !

Some great visiting with Belle and REM reported today. Yes, we were warned the live cam would be down for a few days, starting today. Here's hoping there is a long term fix in progress.

Have you all voted in the eagle naming poll ? Still several hours to go. Don't miss out on taking part in this democratic (small d) exercise ! PAULA, you don't have to stay up late to give us results. We're big kids and can wait til' tomorrow, but as far as I'm concerned it ain't over until YOU give us the result. Thank you again for the stellar job you did in organizing it for us !

Costume Lady said...

You know what, Lynne...for many years, Gene and I vacationed in Myrtle Beach and I didn't know about the Bunting at that time. If I had, I would have scoured the trees and the skies looking for one!

Mema Jo said...

Good evening and Thank you Steve for the new thread. Here's hoping you have a good short work week and a very
plentiful Thanksgiving.

Thanks, Loretta for the call over.

Lynne2 said...

Good news concerning GG getting all
gussied up, Wanda. Raises your spirits, I'm sure.

Good Wife will be about 20 min late.

Costume Lady said...

Yes, indeedy, Paula. You did a great job with the poll. Thanks to you for taking the time to pull it all together. Yes, we can wait til morning for the name:)

Kay said...

Oh yes, I agree, the male Painted Bunting is a beautiful bird---part of the Cardinal family. We have lots of Cardinals, but I've never seen Painted Bunting here. Have seen them in TX and OK, however.

WANDA, it's so nice to hear GG has perked up ! She must be feeling better if she's putting on a little make up and managing things better in the kitchen. Yeah !

Mema Jo said...

Lynne, I am happy to hear you have a paid holiday and some extra time off.
Enjoy yourself!

Lynne2 said...

Well, Wanda.....a PB search mission is a good excuse to head to the OBX! Hope you are able to do so...would be so cool to find a PB with your grandson!

Lynne2 said...

well Jo, I'll be looking for things to do! Hopefully the weather will be not too cold, and my cough will be LONG GONE!

the guys never did see any swans while fishing today. Oh well.....and they didn't get any catches worth keeping either.

Lynne2 said...

I was unable to find my purple string of lights. Honestly, I could hide my own Easter eggs.....

Sure hope Linda is OK in FLA....was really hoping to have heard a little something by now.

wvgal_dana said...

Daughters boyfriend had his dental surgery 4 wisdom and 1 molar pulled at hospital on this past Thursday. Everything went find. He of course is not use to anesthesia.
First surgery he has every had. She did have a little trouble getting him up 3 flights of stairs to their apartment. lol He made it though. Only missed one day of work. Had an appointment day after the surgery. He even kept the appointment but then went home straight to bed. He is doing so well about the seizures. This doctor is working very well with him. His parents was shocked that he has been having seizures even when he lived at home and they did not know it. They told daughter, "That she is very special and thanked her for taking good care of their son".

Mema Jo said...

Lynne - you really think you could do that? That is wrong - you can't be the Easter Bunny - you can't take his job away and hide your own eggs.... ROFLMBO

Kay said...

JO, thanks for the Good Wife timing. I have everything laid out on the trundle bed in the TV room, aka Seth's room. Will enjoy watching the show while packing.

LYNNE, thanks for the good wishes ! I am excited, you're right. Hope you and Steve have a blessed Thanksgiving. I do so admire you for your grace in the face of too much adversity this year. Praying for a big turn around and soon ! It's hard to figure out why we must go through periods of being tested the way most of us are. As the old hymn says, "We'll Understand It Better By and By".

Costume Lady said...

Kay, have a joyous Thanksgiving with your family. Keep in touch!

I will not be blogging very much the next 3 days. I'm having 15 for TG dinner and have to prepare a lot of foods ahead of time and freeze them. Gene is still hunting and I will miss his help:(

Yes, WANDA, the Painted Bunting takes your breath away. At first glance you wonder if someone's pet bird has escaped. That's what I wondered the first time I saw one in OK, but a cousin quickly told me what it was. Many years later I spotted one in a park somewhere between College Station, TX and Houston---the name of the State park escapes me now. I don't know how often they are seen there, but I was thrilled to be able to point him out to Lee and Beth. I've never seen a female, but I think they are probably quite drab and blend in with their setting. I hope you get to see at least one someday ! There must be places where they appear in large numbers, like the bluebirds at LINDA's place. How I'd love to see a flock !

NatureNut said...

Hi gang, just back from the races. Guess you know Tony Stwart won. I like both the leaders, so it would have been win win for me!

Wanda, I got my avatar from Google images--the flourescent ones! Saw Lynne's on there, too.

NatureNut said...

Wanda, I guess your grandson wants to see a real live painted bunting. My daughter got pictures twice on the bird feeder and ground in her back yard. Very far away, so a little blurry, but I think I put them on blog long ago. My bird wish has been to see a roseate spoonbill!! Maybe JudyE has seen one. They like to hang out along some of Gulf coast. We've been to Galveston a few times, but never seen any. Guess you'd really have to be in canoe, boat or something along the shore. Bird book says they like to wade in shallow water.

hedgie said...

Calm evening here---watching recorded shows, phone calls, talking to Christie, playing with Liesl.......and catching up here!
Glad that those absent have checked in. Safe trip, Kay!!! A very happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!!!

Howdy, all!

Home safe and sound...waiting for the Good Wife to come on.

John's truck has been having a battery or alternator problem, but it straightened itself out on the way home. Still going to put in the shop and have them check it, plus it needs a couple of other minor things attended to.

Got to see 2 eagles today! A Juvie and a sub-adult..maybe 3 years old. Michael and John got to see the 3 year old...he was headed straight for the house from the water, then went to the right, and over the house from the back, circled and back over the marsh. Awesome.

paula eagleholic said...

Ooo, gots to go find a purple avatar!

Good Monday of Thanksgiving Week Morning Eagle Family!!!

My car in supposed to be done Friday! Can you believe that - 3 weeks in the shop?! Maybe time to find new insurance and a new shop. So, off to work I'll go in the rental car again today.

Sorry I messed up on your schedule, LOLLY. Now I remember that Michael, Ashley and Zach won't be there until Wednesday ... it's Laurel and family who came yesterday. Thanks Lynn for keeping me straight!

Kay, a big hug and safe travel wishes for you, coming and going. I hope you are able to get online often and wish you and Lee's family a very happy Thanksgiving.

Happy prepping today, WANDA!

Lynne, I'm looking forward to more days off, too. I'm investigating soap making for something to do! Will read books first. I already have a supply list, but have to order things first.

Paula, thanks for your efforts on the Name Poll. You're a great leader! ♥

Prayers for LYNN - take it easy today. Eat lots and take pain meds when you need them. (((Big HUG)))

And, I'd like to thank SHIRLEY and Kay for putting that dang Nancy Sinatra song in my head this morning! LOL.

Can't sleep. So here I am.

Thanks for the night light, Margy. I was able to find my way to the recliner.

Read a product review on the boots. A customer said that they aren't waterproof and the little designs are coming off, but she gets a lot of compliments on them.

Well, my virtual boots are just fine. They will stay lovely and waterproof on the blog. But maybe you should enjoy them only as a virtual pair of boots!

Got a message from Susan. She is not sure if she will be here for Thanksgiving. James works for Target, and may have to be at work at 9:00 PM on Thanksgiving night.

If they go somewhere together, it will probably be to his sister's. But if he can't go, I suppose she might come here. Sad that the Target workers are not going to be able to celebrate the holiday with their families.

Susan really wants to get out of retail. She has said for a long time that she really dreads the holidays because of her job. Of course, she is thankful that she has a job. But a person should enjoy the job.

stronghunter said...

Tee hee, Lori. Appropriate that the boots should appear right under your remark.

Heading for a small glass of milk and my bed. See you later.

Well I'm going to be making applesauce in the classroom either today or tomorrow. We make it in the crockpot and cook it all day. The kids peel the apples with the apple peeler and we have a great time. So I googled the "best" apples for applesauce and got all kinds of opinions. I thought it would be good to get the opinions of this wonderful group. What is the best apple for applesauce? Thanks

DanaMo said...

Morning all,
Happy Thanksgiving week!
Busy geting my "meal on wheels" ready for transport to the cottage on Wednesday.
My "I'm thankful for" comment for today is: I'm thankful my son is such a great individual. He manages a difficult situation w/no complaints. By choice he hunts w/my husband (his stepdad) while his dad practically acts like a stalker. His dad will show up where they hunt,or drive back & forth by the cottage, stop when he sees lights & then call on his cell phone. They'll come out of the woods & he'll be parked by their truck, just wanting to chat, etc, etc. He was never that attentive when we were married. Anyhow I'm thankful my son has grown up to be such a good guy!

Heading home in about an hour, Lynn. I'm only working two days this week so I'll have to cram in a lot of other stuff today and tomorrow. Pioneer woman, really? I think it will be a blast! Kind of like quilts. You get to mix different blends/recipes, colors, scents, etc. Never the same thing three times! LOL

Hugs for you, too, DanaWV. Be safe today and extra hugs for your mother. ♥
