I checked in on the NBG 3 Rebels this am. They said that a transmitter would be placed on one of them sometime around May 20th. Good photos on Glo's Feed Blitz this am of the banding and Shelly from the ME forum was there for the event.
Welcome to more newcomers. We are growing by leaps and bounds! So many mention multiple co-workers watching, too...hope each counts as a click on beakspeak!!
Mei Xiang decided to spend today, Earth Day, indoors. She was reluctant to move this morning and ate her bag of biscuits in slow motion before retiring to den two for most of the day. We knew this day would be a different when we arrived to find her bamboo uneaten. Mei did shred some bamboo in den three overnight to supplement her nest. She also interacted with her kong toy, picking it up and manipulating it for a few minutes this afternoon. This toy is provided as an object for her to cradle, however Mei will also cradle larger objects such as balls and spools and even the very dear drain grate.
These behaviors are our cues to begin one shift of the behavioral watch (4-7 p.m.) daily. We will not expand the watch until we see further behaviors, such as more nest building, cradling of objects, and further loss of interest in all the affairs of her world, except of course the state of her chosen den.
Mei’s elevated progesterone levels trigger all these maternal behaviors and get her ready for the (potential) main event, the birth of a cub. This hormone is elevated after insemination but then in pandas elevates again usually one to four months later. This first time frame, marked by lower levels of progesterone, is considered the time before the fertilized egg implants in the uterus, a period we note as the period of “delayed implantation.” Then a secondary surge in hormone levels occurs, which is believed to reflect the time when the egg implants in the uterus and begins to develop. The secondary hormone rise has been tricky to mark this year, as Mei's hormone levels have taken a different course from those charted over past years. This secondary rise provides us with a 40- to 50-day window for the end of a false pregnancy or the birth of a cub. Mei behaved normally just yesterday, lying perfectly still for an ultrasound and eating the training treats (bits of apple, pear, and biscuit) with gusto. Nothing significant was observed on the ultrasound. We are left guessing as usual as we create the right birth environment and hope for a sibling for Tai Shan.
Restless Tai Shan and Tian Tian continue to be influenced by their male hormone testosterone. Their days continue to be active ones of wandering, sniffing, scent marking, and consuming large quantities of bamboo culm. It is very impressive to watch them process those large stalks with a resounding crack. Tai and Tian are consuming 33 to 44 pounds daily. It is hard to believe that the low nutrition and energy content of bamboo sustains wild male pandas through the breeding season.

well adult landed with a fish right next to Hidey...she was not interested in it till adult dragged it away from her and started to eat it, then she started to whine.
Thanks for panda update, Helen! Wow, what a lot of bamboo to ingest in one day.....no wonder it's hard to find/keep in stock!! Have you heard anything new on the clouded leopard babies?

Mei Xiang looks like she is going to hang out in her den today....she has already pulled and shredded some bamboo into the birthing den in the last few days
They updated the weather channel, it is 81 at 11 o'clock in the morning. I shut up the house and turned on the air, I thought if I got a head start, the air cond. wouldn't have to work so hard to catch up.
Thanks, Deb, for turning on AC! Someone made fun of me last weekend when I did it at 80! It was almost 90 in the house when I turned it on...and it ran forever, so this weekend when itt's supposed to be that warm again, I will turn it on sooner rather than later!
I never open my windows, because of pollen...go from heat to AC...live in a brick house, and it heats up fast...so my AC has been on when we reached the 80's
It is supposed to hit 89 here, I think we will easily beat that. Lynn, my house heats up fast, so I close all the curtains and set the air at 78, keeps it nice inside.
Me, either, Mits....I love nightlights, which attract bugs. And there are LOTS of bugs in the woods. There is no such thing as a fine enough screen to keep them out. Since I NEVER open windows, I took the screens out and stored them--makes for much easier window cleaning! AND no pollen blows in, which probably keeps the dust down just a wee bit!
Mary just called and we have a baby eaglet at the State Park! I can't wait to go and see it. I get my hair cut at 2 and then I am on my way. I am so excited, it will be my first baby to see in person.
Good afternoon all HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANNE MARIE.Hope you have a great day. Anne Marie you mentioned if anyone knew how to read Italian. I have someone who does. E-mail me if you want. Lynn, Greg was saying that he was cold on the bus. I was warm.

Yeah, Ceil, usually men make fun of us when we complain about the cold---big men (like Greg) seem to always be hot...but that bus was stuffy and close....and Jo was really perspiring, too!
Just had to climb around in the woods to retrieve neighbors' trash that was blowing around my property....a plastic bag full of plastic bags! ARGH!! Sissy....your favorite thing...NOT! At least it didn't blow up into a tree.
Sharon, how much blood are they giving you? One unit? Been meaning to ask...everything ok w/ Thelma? Haven't seen her on at all this week. Tell her hi!
MsBookworm, sometimes we lose sound....we don't know why! If it's not back on soon someone will email Steve so he can check it out. The way the wind is blowing, it's probably a short-term blessing! BBL...heading out to get SIL's birthday card and put it in mail...I forgot...bad MIL!!!
I've seen a couple of shots this morning of the BWE chicks (fluff all gone) sleeping side-by-side, like right now, and I think we might have another same sex pair this year. What do you think?
Thanks, Hedgie. I'll hang in there and see what happens. Guess what-- I figured out that if I turn up the volume and minimize the Eagle cam site, I can actually get some other work done on the computer, and when Hidey starts peeping, I know something's up! Can hear when the wind starts blowing hard, or it's beginning to rain, too. And when Belle hits the nest, of course. Pretty cool!
The BWO female is down in her egg cup a lot more today, and she's been in there for several minutes.
I saw her get up a few minutes ago and look under her like she was expecting something...nothing yet. But I think she might be planning to start her clutch today.
Just so you know about the bus - IT WAS HOT ON THAT BUS! Greg forgot to wear his hat or he would have been HOT also! We had so much fun!
NBG - what's my travel time - gotta see if I have enough oxygen to get me there & home again! Capt Gene has a generator & I'll just plug in and refill when I need it! Do I every wish I could go! I want to know what you need to do to get an up-front at the fence position to see everything - I bet if we get a wheelchair - we could get handicap parking like the gals did from the ME forum!! Me and Mary Margaret who would be fresh out of surgery would qualify
I just saw the RTH chicks for the first time, still trying to catch up on nests, have not gotten a chance to look at any one's pics from the other day or video from banding....going to get ready to go to Orioles's game, hubby picking me up at 5.
Taking youngest son and his family out for a birthday dinner. He is really aging as he was 45 yesterday. We will have fun - 2 gs will be with us. Need to get ready... Be back to check in before I leave...
WHOA! Thanks for the alert on the Bluebird eggs! They have been recently laid as I had been trying to check daily.. They eastern bluebirds also have nest on the Camclickers site from TX.
I hope these eggs make it - I remember different bird taking over their nest of eggs last year!
Headed down the road for dinner. Check in when I return.
Hi all! Back from my day of fun, style show and luncheon. Also went to a nursery and bought some coleus. Love it for shade!
Lynn, I wan not making fun of you last week with your AC on....just surprised. Did not know you can not open up your house. It is 88.7 here right now and our house is open. We have great insulation and since it is cool in the mornings still, and we have the house wide open, it is very comfortable. When the nights warm up our AC will come on fast. We are very fortunate to be in an area where we can leave the house wide open at night and when we are gone during the day.
I was just reminiscing about when I saw an eaglet do a poop shoot for the first time. Didn't know what in the world was happening, thought they were going to walk backwards off the nest. Laughed really hard when I saw it was just working up to a poop shoot!
Sharon, for three years we had a red shouldered hawk nest in our front yard. We learned all about poop shoots. The we went to Alaska and we visited the Raptor Center there. We were sitting on the front row when they brought in a beautiful bald eagle. It was sitting on the mans arm when it started to move around and raise it's tail. LOL I knew what was coming and moved my feet back at just the right time.
Now, now, Mits....we won 2 of last 3 games!! LOL! It'll get better....hope Nats and O's both have really good seasons! Thank goodness it's still early.
I was teasing you, Lolly! I think the sunroom is what causes the house to get so hot....even tho' I close the verticals between it and the living room, the house gets hotter than it did before I had it put on.
Just got back in after watering all my patio plants. Hidey is really looking all sleek and shiny right now! The shower yesterday must have done her good. Boy, she's growing up fast-- hardly any baby fuzz left.
Lolly, your poop shoot story reminds me of the time we took the girls to see the circus when they were little. We were in the second row, so our feet were under the first row seats...all of a sudden I felt something wet on my feet....the little kid in front of me had wet his pants!
I have the OK nest up - the crop on that little growing eaglet is huge! I was able to get the NBG site open... I had to double click where the cam should be and Yepper it opened! All 3 little rebels in the nest - LOL the largest one just did a poop shoot (he was behind the tree trunk) and then he fell forward in the nest!
I am home and didn't see a baby eaglet just hatched. I saw two eaglets walking around the nest holding their heads up just fine! I think there may be a third one but the window in the tree trunk was closed. I am hoping to see three in my pictures.
Ms Bookworm is our most recent official Eaglet Momster! WELCOME! Since the beginning of April 2009 we have received 7 new requests for the yahoo site! They are listed as New Members.
I think it is our nest and also I know it is the hospitality that all of you show to newcomers! I sure am proud to be part of this nest!!!
Wanda, I haven't been back to Park. I do work this Sat. I can see it would be good idea for me to drive out there on lunch break. We are supposed to take a 1/2 hour. I didn't see 3 when I went there TU PM. We sure need a cam! Or a tower!!LOL
Good evening to all my friends of fine feathers and fur. So grateful to have gotten my iron finished today. I go next Thursday to get my blood checked and see if it worked. I am actually sweating today and not freezing. Feels pretty foreign to me!
Hello mgmccfolkart. So glad you came on to talk to us. Keep coming back!! We have a blast on here and have made such wonderful friends! The more, the merrier!
Sharon that is great news! No more need to crunch the ice cubes! lol Hopefully tomorrow the sun will be shinning down on you in the afternoon! Soak some natural up!
Welcome mgmccfolkart! Did you find the Wild Watch Blue Bird Nest. May be too dark right now - I can check. 3-4 hrs difference and the 2 eggs are visible. click on link to BB nest
Sharon, fingers and toes crossed that your IV's are over and done with! I went once a month with GeeGee for 4 years to get an IV for Osteoporosis....so time consuming. It was about 4 hours, as I recall.
I named one while I was watching, NEb. For the NE Bully. It was pecking away at one of the others the whole time. NEb was the bigger and I assume the older. When ever I saw the pecking there were only two showing, NEb and the poor one receiving the pecking.
this is the first year I have actually had bluebirds - I have had the box for many years and clean out the sparrows every spring - now finally I have bluebirds - I am in WV-also have nesting mockingbirds, doves, robins, wrens and a few different kinds of sparrows in my yard full of rabbits!
She has been spent a few nights away from the nest, then came back for the rainy nights. I am not sure why she spent the night last night. Both parents are above the nest in the Sycamore tree, watching over Hidey.
Supposed to go down in the low thirties tonight, with frost in some areas. Bet Belle will be back with Hidey before too long. I looked at cam....no sign of you-know-what!!! Maybe someone ate him! Hope, hope.
Oh my....7500 acres in Cypress Nature Preserve on Alligator Alley in FL have burned since a lightening strike started a fire on Tues. All the poor animals....
I'm going to say buenos noches. Hope everyone has a restful night, and that Anne Marie had a special birthday. Praying that Margy feels much better tomorrow and that Sharon feels peppier, and that Jo ISN'T coming down with anything.

No screen or net, but there are times we wish there were, too!
Thanks, Steve...my live feed just came back on!
YEAH, CAM IS BACK!
Happy Birthday, Anne Marie
Live feed is up!
Good morning again everybody!
Although it isn't common, they do sometimes fall out of the nest. It's never happened at this nest that we know of.
And welcome Russ and Niterpi
I see that bunch of greenery that was brought in last night....soon the leaves on the sycamore will be out as well
I found ya'll!! Thank God, I thought I was lost forever!!!

Good Morning All! I'm just in time to see a late breakfast in the nest!
Welcome Niterpi and Russ - also I saw Heather came on late late last night!
Anne Marie - hope you have a very very special day today and that your birthday wishes all come true ♥ ♥
What is it Deb...it's really stringy!
Yes, Niterpi...very addictive!!
Hidey is trying to get down that last bite...boy he finally did...
Hidey's feathers looked like they grew a lot in the last couple of days...most of his back is dark now
Belle just took off, Hidey's in the bowl
I checked in on the NBG 3 Rebels this am.

Lake WA eagle not in nest - maybe a switch is going to take place.
Whoops! No sooner said then done..
Switch and back incubating the egg(s)
I am not sure what it was, Paula, had a skinny tail, not fluffy like a squirrel.
I just finished mowing the back yard. it was nice to begin with, but the winds are getting stronger.
Hmmm, chipmunk maybe?
Now why didn't they just wait to band the chicks at NBG instead of going back up again to put a GPS on one of em?
Winds are a little stiff here too, Deb.
Got a good look at the eggs at HI, still intact! That is going to be a great view when they hatch!!
I agree Paula, seems like they would want to handle them as little as possible!
I have leaves!! It is so nice to see green in a tree my crab apples should blossom soon, too. They are purple now, just about ready to open.
Welcome to more newcomers. We are growing by leaps and bounds! So many mention multiple co-workers watching, too...hope each counts as a click on beakspeak!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANNE MARIE.Hope you have a great day.
Anne Marie you mentioned if anyone knew how to read Italian. I have someone who does. E-mail me if you want.
Lynn, Greg was saying that he was cold on the bus. I was warm.
Deb that is great. Hey everyone if Norfolk annouces when they will put the Gps on the eaglet maybe we can go.
It was sometime in May, like the 20th, but today I couldn't find the post.

I found it, searched Google and there it was. Sorry it is so long.
If it is public like the banding I would love to go. Have to see because MM surgery is suppose to be the 11th.
good info, Deb, makes sense to put the GPS on when it is a little older. Have fun this afternoon.
BBL Things to do
opsrey in Finney nest and one in Finland nest
That's good info, Deb...don't mind the length!!! The baby you are going to see....is it in captivity? Or is nest low enough for viewing?
I am thinking that all the time the BWO Osprey is spending in the nest is a good sign.
it sure is Deb.....
it is a female at Finney nest and she is a beauty
Nightfall in Finland...osprey in water nest. Beautiful exit from Finney nest.....too bad I can't capture live image.

Thanks for feeding the turtles. If it weren't so windy, you can see the nest from the water, and you can get closer.
Hidey sure had those wings going.
Good afternoon everyone. I am reporting live from Bluefield Hematology/Oncology! They got my IV on the first stick, yeah!
The pictures of Eagles that Loretta sent out were great. We have a good parent view right now, the color is so good.
That's a good sign, Sharon, now tomorrow you will hopefully be so full of energy you won't know what to do first!
Just had to climb around in the woods to retrieve neighbors' trash that was blowing around my property....a plastic bag full of plastic bags! ARGH!! Sissy....your favorite thing...NOT! At least it didn't blow up into a tree.
Deb, I don't think I have ever had that much energy in my life! Wouldn't know what to do with it!
You better start a list then, I feel it coming your way, Sharon! Off to get my hair cut and see an eaglet, I hope!!!
Got a good shot of Belle...sent capture out via regular email.
Sharon, how much blood are they giving you? One unit? Been meaning to ask...everything ok w/ Thelma? Haven't seen her on at all this week. Tell her hi!
opsrey at finney's nest
Belle in the nest with Hidey...too cute!
10:00p.m. at Finney's nest, osprey still there.
poof opsrey just left at Finney's nest
I checked out the Norfolk banding pics....that's how big our Hidey is too! They really are pretty good size!
I've been watching for a while, and all of a sudden don't have any sound to go with the picture. Anyone know how to fix it?
MsBookworm, sometimes we lose sound....we don't know why! If it's not back on soon someone will email Steve so he can check it out. The way the wind is blowing, it's probably a short-term blessing!
BBL...heading out to get SIL's birthday card and put it in mail...I forgot...bad MIL!!!
I've seen a couple of shots this morning of the BWE chicks (fluff all gone) sleeping side-by-side, like right now, and I think we might have another same sex pair this year. What do you think?

Surprisingly, I've seen the Allen's Hummingbird mother on the same nest the strange bird robbed not long ago the last couple of days.
And she was sitting on this nest earlier today, but I couldn't see what she had, if anything.
Well, she's off now, and I can clearly see one new egg.

Jim
Thanks, Hedgie. I'll hang in there and see what happens. Guess what-- I figured out that if I turn up the volume and minimize the Eagle cam site, I can actually get some other work done on the computer, and when Hidey starts peeping, I know something's up! Can hear when the wind starts blowing hard, or it's beginning to rain, too. And when Belle hits the nest, of course. Pretty cool!
Another thing I just noticed:
The BWO female is down in her egg cup a lot more today, and she's been in there for several minutes.
I saw her get up a few minutes ago and look under her like she was expecting something...nothing yet. But I think she might be planning to start her clutch today.

I took a very long LUNCH! lol
I just saw the RTH chicks for the first time, still trying to catch up on nests, have not gotten a chance to look at any one's pics from the other day or video from banding....going to get ready to go to Orioles's game, hubby picking me up at 5.
lol Ms Bookworm you are learning all our old tricks on your own! Great!
HP at BWO
Taking youngest son and his family out for a birthday dinner. He is really aging as he was 45 yesterday. We will have fun - 2 gs will be with us.

probably will freeze my butt off at game,,,,could be worse we could be going to see the Nationals:)...later
I do not have sound right now. Is the sound out on our nest?
Also, can not get NBG.????
Lucky Deb! Getting to see an eagle baby!
LOlly, sound not working at our nest right now....
I couldn't get NBG earlier, either.
Not everyone can say they have had a bald eagle AIM at them!
Heading home...cu later
Thanks Paula! It is always nice to know others have the same problem....not that I want others to have the problme. :)
I was teasing you, Lolly! I think the sunroom is what causes the house to get so hot....even tho' I close the verticals between it and the living room, the house gets hotter than it did before I had it put on.
I think I am going to head outside. Have not gotten dirty today. Not a good day until you get dirty from working in the yard.
BBL
Sure hoping that Margy is feeling better this evening. Hope she's had a chance to look at all the pics posted yesterday!
I know Lynn!
I am heading out!
BBL
Just got back in after watering all my patio plants. Hidey is really looking all sleek and shiny right now! The shower yesterday must have done her good. Boy, she's growing up fast-- hardly any baby fuzz left.
Lolly, your poop shoot story reminds me of the time we took the girls to see the circus when they were little. We were in the second row, so our feet were under the first row seats...all of a sudden I felt something wet on my feet....the little kid in front of me had wet his pants!
Gee, shadows are so bad on nest that I can't make out anything!
Hail, hail, the gangs' all here! All three in our nest.
Finally! I just saw a male hummer on my feeder...
Good, Megan! Guess I'll fill my feeder tomorrow.
Evening Everyone!
WOW, what an eagle closeup on the cam!
Loretta, everything seems so much closer on cam this afternoon....nest looks small and birds look huge!! Must be a trick of the lighting.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANNE-MARIE!!Hope you're having a wonderful day! ☺
Megan, we saw a hummer at GeeGee's yesterday...none here yet:(
By the time our wild columbine are blooming, we will have the gange back:)
Hi, Loretta...are you checking in on FLIIPPERS AND FLAPPERS? Need a cam there, badly! How special was that, for all of us to get to see your babies?!
ANNE-MARIE, hope you are out celecrating your birthday with a handsome hunk and wearing your RED DRESS!!
Have a wonderful evening. ((HUGS))
I have returned and dinner was very nice.
Our adult just went POOF out of the nest
Adult is in the NBG nest
At least the adult was 'briefly' in the nest with the 3 little rebels
I am home and didn't see a baby eaglet just hatched. I saw two eaglets walking around the nest holding their heads up just fine! I think there may be a third one but the window in the tree trunk was closed. I am hoping to see three in my pictures.
Ms Bookworm is our most recent official Eaglet Momster! WELCOME! Since the beginning of April 2009 we have received 7 new requests for the yahoo site! They are listed as New Members.
I think it is our nest and also I know it is the hospitality that all of you show to newcomers! I sure am proud to be part of this nest!!!
Going to watch "Bones" at 8pm
BBL
Wanda, I haven't been back to Park. I do work this Sat. I can see it would be good idea for me to drive out there on lunch break.
We are supposed to take a 1/2 hour.
I didn't see 3 when I went there TU PM. We sure need a cam! Or a tower!!LOL
Adult back to work on that fish. Maybe Hidey will get 2nd helping.
All 3 in nest now!
Hidey hasn't gotten anything to eat yet.
One away & nestorations by other adult.
Poof!
Hidey alone now....no sign of Spidey YET!!!
Good evening to all my friends of fine feathers and fur. So grateful to have gotten my iron finished today. I go next Thursday to get my blood checked and see if it worked. I am actually sweating today and not freezing. Feels pretty foreign to me!
been watching for a while now- signed in to see the bluebirds also - I have a new bluebird nest in my box in my yard but no eggs yet -
Hello mgmccfolkart. So glad you came on to talk to us. Keep coming back!! We have a blast on here and have made such wonderful friends! The more, the merrier!
I don't know where everybody else is tonight!
Sharon that is great news! No more need to crunch the ice cubes! lol
Hopefully tomorrow the sun will be shinning down on you in the afternoon!
Soak some natural up!
Welcome mgmccfolkart! Did you find the Wild Watch Blue Bird Nest. May be too dark right now - I can check. 3-4 hrs difference and the 2 eggs are visible.
click on link to BB nest
WELCOME M....FOLKART.
What state would those bluebirds be in and do they come there every year to your birdbox?
Sharon, fingers and toes crossed that your IV's are over and done with! I went once a month with GeeGee for 4 years to get an IV for Osteoporosis....so time consuming. It was about 4 hours, as I recall.
I took over 100 pictures today, trying to find all three of the suspected eaglets. Finally on picture 80, I see three heads!
I had an email from Margy this morning about going to see the DR.... I hope she did and found some good stuff.
I am so cold BUT I know it is cooling down outside.. I hope it is just the weather.
I will go cover up with my fleece blanket
and come back unless I go on to bed!
I named one while I was watching, NEb. For the NE Bully. It was pecking away at one of the others the whole time. NEb was the bigger and I assume the older. When ever I saw the pecking there were only two showing, NEb and the poor one receiving the pecking.
Sure hope you aren't coming down with something, Jo. I hope Margy went to the doctor, too, and is feeling better.
this is the first year I have actually had bluebirds - I have had the box for many years and clean out the sparrows every spring - now finally I have bluebirds - I am in WV-also have nesting mockingbirds, doves, robins, wrens and a few different kinds of sparrows in my yard full of rabbits!
Shouldn't mama be back in the nest by now? Last night she was in for the night at this time. I'm a little worried...
She has been spent a few nights away from the nest, then came back for the rainy nights. I am not sure why she spent the night last night. Both parents are above the nest in the Sycamore tree, watching over Hidey.
"has been spent", what on earth kind of grammar was that!
M-folkart, I would sure like to visit your yard, so many nesting birds!
Supposed to go down in the low thirties tonight, with frost in some areas. Bet Belle will be back with Hidey before too long. I looked at cam....no sign of you-know-what!!! Maybe someone ate him! Hope, hope.
Deb, thanks for your reply - I am reassured. I'm a new eagle cam watcher (just a couple days now) and am quite hooked! Getting attached to Hidey...
Email from Magpie. Saw Dr. On meds, and has been sleeping most of the day. Rest for the weary!!
Happy Birthday Anne!
Hope you are having a wonderful day!
Welcome, Carol, we have all been where you are. It gets easier to adjust to the eaglets getting older and how the parents change their patterns.
Awww poor Margy! At least she got sick after the trip!
Gnite, all.
Hugs to all ♥
Been watching TV tonight, Grey's Anatomy. Took up the whole night.
Just watched a story on the news about a momma duck and her approx.20 babies being rescued. They were so cute.
