Thursday post. I know some folks have been trying to get in touch with me. Please indulge my lack of communication and or response.
We are in final crunch mode on a 350 person conference here at NCTC that starts tonight and goes through the weekend.
Folks from all over the country are coming in for an invitation-only dialogue on the issue of children becoming disconnected with nature. We have been living and breathing this event for the past two weeks.
The inspiration for the event is the recent book by Richard Louv--Last Child in the Woods--Saving our Children from Nature-deficit Disorder. Highly recommended.

I wish our families would have kept the german going down through the families and children. So that way we would have two languages.
My aunt is from Germany and she is in her 70's married to uncle when she was I think in her 50's and she learn't English. So goes back several times a year to Germany.

IMHO, I think you need to learn the language of where you live! If it's English, then learn it. If you live in France then you have to learn French, etc.

Lun Lun has been doing a great job caring for her cub. There have been sounds coming from the birthing den that indicate the cub is nursing. This is a good sign. Animal management staff is on stand-by to assure that the mother and cub’s progress continue.

But they were talking about hearing sounds coming out of the nesting den. And another thing, who were we watching on the panda cam? I always thought it was Lun Lun but now I don't think so.

That is Frodo - you really can tell the difference between him and Frieda. He is a much slender bird & such sleek looking feathers. I wonder when that 3rd little chick is coming into this world?

I think that 3rd egg is harder to see w/ the new fuzzballs there. Looks like Frieda back on the nest. Frodo is definitely sleeker, I think his beak may be more yellow, going to check the pics I have....
I think we should nickname Frodo, Slicky Boy, cause he looks so slick and sleek. Ah forget about it, doesn't make any sense. Anyhow, I think Belle is a big Steeler fan and may be watching the game. I'm pretty sure the panda that we have seen the last couple of days, eating the bamboo was Yang-Yang. I HOPE the ATLANTA ZOO has a cam on that new baby, so, they can keep an eye on it.
Well I don't think you missed me cause its so hard to tell if I'm coming and going anyway LOL, BUT my Anti virus stuff crashed and I was afraid to surf or do much til I got it going again. Anyway its up and running and I'm back for a while LOL.

OH Mits "Moons rise over the ocean" Brings back cherished memories for me, but that was a long long time ago. I grew up in New England, about 30 miles from Cape cad. I miss the ocean and always miss the mountains in the fall.
Well he has to get all the "food" for now so I don't think he would be sitting for very long on the nest.

Buta Buta was chosen by me because they said when the cubs are born, they come out like a stick of butter.

Frieda does look ruffled a lot. The reason that Frodo looks so sleek and calm is that he knows that Frieda is taking care of business! I saved a picture of him looking down at the hatchlings like "now what am I supposed to do with you?"

Jo, only had to sit in my living room to watch it tonight. Just turned out all the lights and watched the moon for awhile. That's one of the nice things about living in Maryland. Three hours to the West you are in the mountains and three hours to the east you are at the ocean

I can barely make out anything in the dark but I did see the little white fuzzies. Still can't tell if there are 3 yet or not. Now, Suzanne, when you get your computer on line at home, make sure you watch the videos of Lun Lun and her new baby. That baby is so loud! I will also send you some videos of our eaglets if you would like. You will have a whole new world open up to you, even if it is just on weekends that you can watch!

PAULA So far, Atlanta is not doing what the national zoo did, we had 24/7 live feed for about 2 months. It was fascinating to get up in the middle of the night and watch poor Mei try to get some rest.
Tai and Mei look to be in a different room. Cam is acting weird, but I know they are just preparing for the new move soon.
It is now 10:02 and no video yet of Lun Lun and Buta Buta!

Ya Ya, the panda in China who gave birth to twins on 9/6, accidentally crushed one of them in her sleep. The other cub had been removed already. So very sad!

They just let Tai and Mei back in their den. Tai found a treat and Mei immediately went after it. Tai stood his ground and got to keep it. Proud of him. She even backed him into his little cubby hole and he came out victorious!!!!
